hal cal baby! you don’t gotta answer this at all, i’m not too sure why i’m sending you this, but i feel like a such a failure because i’ve been writing this fic for 3 months now and i haven’t finished to, i don’t have the energy or the thoughts to keep on writing it. i know i wanna finish it and publish it but i’m just so… not inspired? i hate that it’s taking me so long :(

hi beloved anon! i can absolutely tell you with 100 percent certainty that you are not a failure. writing is a long process and the best things take a lot of time to complete.

i get like that too sometimes when im writing something and if im being so honest with you... that happens to me with almost every fic i write. i take centuries to put out any new fics and sometimes i hit these point where im like "fuck guess im not actually a real writer at all!!! i should quit forever!!!". writer's block is such a pesky little asshole, but pushing yourself and beating yourself up for experiencing it or losing inspo for something will likely only make it worse.

sometimes we write things that take us 8 million years to finish or things that we never finish at all. that def sucks sometimes, but posting/publishing vs not does not make you any less of a writer and does not determine failure vs success!!

all of that being said, try and take your time with it. fic writing is a labor of love!!!! write when you want to and don't try to force it. having fun is the MOST important thing (corny but true!!!)!!!

6. Do you have your work beta'd? How important is this to your process?

Okay, I've actually only had one of my works beta'd and that was the recent one I posted, The Bridges We Burn. I wrote this one for an event in the THG server I'm in, and this story has... I'll just say, one of the gnarliest injuries I've ever written, so I really wanted some extra eyes on it to make sure it read as I wanted to and also tied in with the themes I was writing about. Oh, and making sense from a medical standpoint LOL (one of my betas for that fic has knowledge in that area hjvfh).

In general though, I'm my own beta. Maybe I'll look into getting one for my next fic, but we'll see !

8. Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story?

Oooh... Writing or reading..? Hm either way, I don't know.. I do love opening scenes though, both reading and writing. And also ending scenes... And the middle is.. well you could do anything there HBJDH. I do also love coming back to the start of a story after finishing writing or reading, it's refreshing almost. But. Yeah, I don't really have a good answer for this one. I just love stories ;-;

14. How do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?

Mannn I looooove emotional scenes !!! I think... making myself feel what the characters are feeling is part of the process for me. Maybe that's one of the reasons I like writing so much...? I don't know ! Also re: personal experience, hm. That's a hard one.. I think I have like. Personal experiences that I can sometimes vaguely apply to scenes I'm writing, just as a reference for certain emotions, but it's never like. Explicitly copy-pasted from that. I've never watched a human being get brutally murdered in front of me, so I just have to get creative on that front LOL. (Uh context for anyone unfamiliar - I write hunger games fics bvdbfh)

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

Oh lord.. So Many. I have a list in my personal discord server, it's... a Lot. Some of the main ones, I guess... I have some drafts for the events of what happened for both of Venatrix's parents' Games, since they're both Victors (different years). I also have a sequel to True Vengeance planned. I'm planning to rewrite the Victory Tour fic for 168th Games. And I'm also planning an SYOT for the 175th Games, where the Quell twist is Victors choose the tributes. :D

23. Best writing advice for other writers?

God, I say this so often but. Write for yourself !!! If you're not obsessed with what you're writing, then no one else is going to be ! And I'm not saying it's a sin to want feedback or praise or comments or kudos for your writing. I simply mean that, since You're the one writing, you damn well better love it. Gonna end this response with a quote from Mary Shelley about her novel Frankenstein (which I just read ahah) that really resonates with me:

"And now, once again, I bid my hideous progeny go forth and prosper." <3

25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

Oooh.. Hm, well, I'll never say no to more responses for True Vengeance LOL. But I think for the moment, I'll have to plug The Bridges We Burn since it's my most recent project. I did just post it, and all at once, so it makes sense that it hasn't gotten much traction outside of the discord server yet!

Growing up, there had only been one instance in which Venatrix truly felt terrified of her father.  Before any of them were permitted to start training, their parents decreed it necessary to watch the entirety of their respective Games. Eight years old, he’d taken her down to the basement of their home, alone, and turned on the screen. She’d been excited at first, to find out what exactly made her dad a hero. It melted away with the fire.

56. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

Oooh.. I think I write fighting and action scenes well. I know that's something that people often have trouble with, but I've been told I do a good job with it. And I enjoy reading back what I write generally. I also think like... my writing is very visceral, and it has to be because that's how I feel the stories. Idk. If I feel it in my chest, that's generally a good thing. Does that make sense? No? Yes. Yes it does.

71. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?

Oh god.. question of the century lmaoo.. The only real example I have of this is True Vengeance (the fic stands at 250k rn) and its. Honestly a horrible example HJBVHBVFH. "How do you keep track of outlines" well first off my outline for this fucking fic is 130 pages I am really not who you should be asking BHVDHBFV. It's literally unusable, but on the bright side, being 253k into the fic means I know the characters and story like the back of my hand pretty much so that's good.

The outline was basically my original dumping grounds for any thoughts about the story that I wanted to include. Yes, there is an outline within the outline. Yes, I had to go through and reorganize the entire outline at one point for anything to make sense.

But yeah, story wise, that's where I'd put all the little details and then major details that I wanted to include. Right now though.. In my current fic document, I have a few notes under the sections where the remaining chapters are gonna go. So when I go to write those chaps, I'll see my notes down there (that I migrated over from the outline) that I need to make sure I include as I write.

Timeline is pretty straightforward since the story is linear. But I did make like.. a concise outline of the timeline of what's happening in the Games themselves by day, which was very helpful. I also have notes for each character to track the injuries they get and when (the comments function in gdocs is v helpful for that, I use it Frequently).

The development I guess is just. Idk... that's the meat of the story. Being aware of like. Where Venatrix's mindset has been during each part of the story has been pretty important. Since I write very closely to her character, that's basically where I get like.. the tone, I guess? It's been especially important as we saw her, uh, mcfreaking lose it last chapter so. That was fun. Like, the characters are naturally gonna be in a v different place at the end of the story versus at the beginning, and being aware of the steps it took to get there is. Good.

Ven isn't the only pov char of the story, and even w the characters that don't get povs here (like Mariposa and Dagmara and Percy in the case of TrV), it's important to be aware of where they're at and make sure they have agency outside of the pov char's head. So... yeah my main recommendation is to write everything down. Just Everything. But.. also ideally in a manner that's organized enough where you can reliably use it as a reference. And if the story changes as you go despite your outline, that's fine too ! Good even - it often means the characters are developing wills of their own and wanting to take the reins, and most of the time, you should let them.

Hi, I posted a sneak peak of something I'm working on, the link is in the title but if you don't see it here you go.

If anyone has any questions concerning the fic don't be scared to drop by my ask box or message me, I don't mind answering your questions. That aside I actually want to discuss something different. It's come to my attention that a few people are interested in the fic and would like to read it so I'm making a public announcement about it. I'll be addressing a few other things as well including about the fic so if ur interested u know what to do.

I'll be talking about:

The new fic + my disappearance

The Yancy fic + why I stopped working on it and what's in store

What's going on now

The fic is unfinished, I'm still in the process of writing it. I haven't really told anyone about it because I feel like if I told others I might not finish it. So I won't be giving away many details about it (I'm sorry for those that were hoping lol) I stopped posting because I was working on this story day and night, I wanted it to be perfect and I still do. I've been working on the book for about two months, and during this time school started back up. I've been working on it every moment I get the chance and I'm really proud of how far I've gotten. The book is currently 95k words and part 1 has a confirmed 27 chapters. This is by far the biggest thing I have ever worked on the and most important project to me. I can't wait for when I finish it and I'm able to post it for everyone to see and I hope your as excited as I am.

My disappearance and the fic isn't the only thing I want to talk about, I also want to bring up the Yancy fic for those who are curious. If you don't know what the Yancy fic is, it's a story I started two months ago and never finished. Sadly I do not know if I'll finish it and I apologize heavily for that. The reason I stopped working on was I was having an extremely hard time figuring out how I actually wanted the story to go. I don't know Yancy's character well enough to write something that huge, I was way in over my head and I knew I was falling out of my obsession with Markiplier I shouldn't have started it to begin with. I apologize to everyone who was waiting for the next chapter, don't get your hopes up but if I get motivation I'll finish it. I'm sorry.

After deciding to take a small "break" from the Yancy fic I started losing interest in the Markiplier cinematic universe; I still love the characters and everything my obsession just isn't as strong and that's why I fell of the wagon. After that, I started looking for something else to attach to but nothing new was catching my interest so I resorted back to my old obsession with the batfam. The last time I was in this fandom I was about nine years old and now I'm 17, it's amazing lol. But jokes aside my Batman phase is what started my writing career and to think I'm coming back to it now that I'm so much better makes me happy especially since my mental health was at an ATL before I grasped it again.

I hope that my Yancy enjoyers will forgive me and the rest of your I'll stay for my rollercoaster of obsessions, love you all. Don't be afraid to ask em stuff in my inbox, I'm always happy to chat.

Hey, I just wanted to say, I was involved in some of the Zutara drama from last year, and I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I was in a bad circle of people at the time and I brushed off some of the things you were saying when I really shouldn't have. I didn't see it back then, but after everything that's happened since and how many woc were bullied out of the fandom for trying to talk about their concerns, I feel so terrible that I was partly responsible for that happening. The climate in the fandom is terrible now, and anyone who dares to talk about it gets mobbed and harassed. What made Zutara special to me in the beginning feels almost gone now. I still write what makes me happy but it just doesn't spark the joy it used to.

Anyways I'm sorry for rambling and you don't have to post if you don't want to, I guess I'm just saying I miss your presence in the fandom because you and your writing were always such a positive presence and I'm sorry for what happened and my part in it. I hope you're doing well now and if you ever do decide to come back to Zutara I'd love to see you around again.

gosh, thanks so much for this note, anon. while i will admit that i didn't fully think things through or go about bringing certain topics up in the best of ways when all the drama went down, i stand by most, if not all, of what i said in that situation. it really sucks that what happened happened, but i don't really hold it against anyone!! it's the internet, and it sucks, but there are bound to be people who really don't care about woc and other marginalized groups; the fact that u recognize that what went down wasn't right is huge, and i really appreciate ur apology!!

i wish that the zk fandom was a lot more... idk. i wish the zk fandom better represented how wonderful and kind both katara and zuko are by the end of atla. to stan such cool poc characters, u'd expect to find more ppl in the fandom who actually care abt what poc have to say. the more ppl who speak up, though, the better i think!! it's so important to end the cliqueyness and exclusivity of big name fans within the fandom to allow everyone the chance to raise valid concerns and to speak about things that are important to them

again, thank u so much for the apology and for the rest of ur message; it was all extremely encouraging to read. for my part, i've mostly moved on from the zk fandom, although the ship will always hold a special place in my heart. i might return one day since i still have plenty of unfinished fics sitting around in my drive and i haven't lost any love for the ship itself. i just hope to return to a fandom that will actually think critically when concerns are raised as opposed to just blindly mobbing/attacking whoever brought them up

I love ur takes but I'm kind still impressed by ur persistent hate for cql. The novel is the base but all the medias adapted from it take a single aspect of the story and make it their own. Look at the manhwa, audio drama, donghua or the drama. I still dont know what ur issue with the drama is coz for a low budget drama with censorship they did everything they could for the novel fans (yes they recorded straight bit so if they had issues they will go straight but they are a drama)... yes they added a few things for the show to telecast it for the chinese consumption (they dont really need white validation unlike kdrama which has more ifandom). Both cql or winter begonia were handled very well and the dramas were overnight hits coz of the scriptwriters and directors keeping the novel story alive.

I think it's also coz u and most white fans of the novel or cql haven't seen anime and its live actions so u dont know that the live actions made in different periods of time change the story according to the area they're being released in... Itazura na Kiss has 3 live action dramas and all three are from different countries and different time periods so the way all three are adapted are alot different eventhough the base story is the same. If u want to follow the novel read that but if u want to enjoy the story cql, donghua, audio drama of MDZS and the manhwa are very nicely done. I hope just coz white cql fans have issues with the novel u dont spread hate for the drama that has made it possible for a relationship to be shown between two men. The asians arent as thick to think they're best friends, everyone who watches the drama knows that it's a gay love story

There’s a lot in there and honestly I don’t think I can address all of your points. But I’ll try my best.

I have said many times that I do not hate CQL and that I enjoyed watching most of it. It was a fun little idol drama that wasn’t a very serious watch. At the beginning I even enjoyed the fandom for a little while. Now, yes, I do post a lot of content that is negative toward CQL and/or its fandom. But you may have noticed a few things though. My criticisms (or my moments of incomprehension) are always related to:

Specific issues I have with the choices it made as an adaptation

People trying to pass CQL, a cheaply-made idol drama, as a masterpiece. This is nothing personal against CQL: it has more to do with how it puzzles me that people don’t see to know what competent and good tv looks like. I have nothing against people praising the show, but they don’t have to act as it doesn’t have a lot of basic, technical issues. 

the CQL fandom cross-posting everything, or bringing CQL canon and fanon into novel-specific discussions. People can mix and match the canons, of course, but it’d be a nice courtesy to be at least open about it so that people who want to stick to one canon may be able to do so. And it is frustrating because people like me have literally just given up on trying to read fics because authors are not forthcoming about which canon they are drawing from. That’s frustrating and a source of bitterness!

arguments that CQL is a stronger/more complex work of fiction than MDZS. Again, it’s nothing personal about CQL, it’s just mind-boggling having to explain something so fucking transparent. 

arguments that CQL is better “queer rep” than MDZS.

You feel that the screenwriter and director kept the story alive, and hey, that’s great for you. Yes, I’m aware that adaptations will change things. Analysing adaptations is actually partly how I developed a lot of my media analysis skills. However, I personally believe that the story that CQL tells and how it chooses to tell it fundamentally changes so much about the narrative, the characters or even the genre of the story that it does not keep the truly interesting and engaging elements of the novel. It might be flippant to say, but even if the production team were truly doing their best (and I do believe they did), it doesn’t mean they achieved what they set out to do--and some of it may just come down to a question of skills, as story-tellers. 

Although I am white, I may not fit into the narrative you present since I have watched many live actions and animated series adapting a manga/manhua/novel. I watched my first jdrama 15 years ago, and to be illustrative, this first jdrama was Hana Yori Dango. In the past I’ve also watched many dramas that were originally japanese/taiwanese/chinese/korean and their adaptations. Hell, sometimes even adaptations that crossed to the western market. I assure you that I am familiar with a property being adapted at different times and in different countries and through different mediums. I’ve also interacted with the other adaptations of MDZS. The thing is, what this has showed me is simply that doing something differently doesn’t translate necessarily in doing as good of a job. Adaptations can fail, either by virtue of what they fail to do as their own work of fiction, or as adaptations of an existing property. 

I’m not trying to shit on to what CQL may mean for chinese audiences or diasporic chinese audiences as well. When I point out the fact that Wangxian is just subtext in CQL, it’s not because I think “asian audiences are dumb” but because the reason why subtext may be acceptable under censorship is that it keeps a level of plausible deniability. Some people will of course recognise it for what it is, but some will simply not pick up on it or refuse that reading. I also do take pains to remind people how the flow of capital that allows for these adaptations to exist may have to do with how far the portrayal of the subtext is being pushed over any concerns for the original story or nebulous gay rights. I do find it interesting though that CQL is often presented in fandom discussions as this unprecedented occurrence in Chinese media, since there was very heavy subtext in earlier live action adaptations like Guardians or the side couple in Love H2O, just to think of quick examples. 

But obviously anon, my more salty or bitter posts about cql seem to bring up frustrations, so if it is an impediment to your fandom experience it might be best to simply unfollow me. If you wish to stay for the novel meta and avoid these posts, I do tag them with either “brine corner” or “cql negativity” or “cql vs mdzs”.

Jungkook ignored you and continued laughing as he turned around, walking away from you.

Jungkook just recently knew how easily scared you get. And because he is known as the Evil Maknae he has been scaring you every now and then. He was a fond of your reaction when you get scared. You were extremely annoyed of his doings and worst of all he manages to get away from it aswell

It was a Saturday morning. Jimin has given you an extra key to Jungkook's apartment. You entered his place and found him asleep like you expected him to be. You were lucky he was the type of person who wakes up late aswell. Perfect for you to continue your plan

You cleared out his bed making sure only Jungkook was on top if it. You then positioned him into an X position (which was hard by the way because he had an odd sleeping position and he was hella heavy). You then took out the straps tying his wrists and ankles to the bed post making sure he wouldn't be able to move once he woke up.

Once that was done. You took out items from your bag such as Feathers, Baby Oil and an electric toothbrush. After everything was all set all you have to do now is to wait for the muscle bunny to wake up. I mean you can start right now if you wanted too but where's the fun in that? You wanted to see his reaction first.

After what felt like years (it was only an hour actually) Jungkook finally woke up. The boy tried pulling his arms down only to find them stuck above his head "What the f*ck?" He tugged on both his arms and ankles only to find out that he was strapped

Jungkook turned to his side to see you sleeping on his study table. "Y/N!"

His yelling suddenly woke you "Huh what?" You said, you wiped the drool off your mouth, letting out a yawn then stretched a little. "Oh your finally awake" You looked at Jungkook with a smile

"What the hell is this Y/N?!" Jungkook asked glaring at you

"Why that's my revenge dear friend" You stood up walking towards him

"You know if you wanted to f*ck me you could have just asked" You looked at the smirking bunny in disbelief after hearing his snarky remark.

"Eww no, What I had in mind for you is something different" You smirk back at him "Just you wait"

Without further a do you then sat on stomach. "You sure you don't plan on f*cking me?"

"You pervert!" You slapped him, not too hard though and he just laughed at your reaction "Oh laugh all you want, I'm gonna make sure of it"

You took out the baby oil and started rubbing it against his exposed stomach (He was shirtless). "Nice revenge there" You rolled your eyes at him, you ignored what he said and continued on

Once you finished you took out a feather. Jungkook looked at you now aware what this little revenge you planned is all about. But he is Jungkook the Golden Maknae he does not show fear well...that failed today

"What's wrong Kook? Afraid of a feather?" You smirked at him. It didn't start but I know this will be so much fun

"What? No! It's just a feather what's there to be afraid of?" The maknae said with confidence laced in his voice but oh how nervous he felt inside. I am so gonna regret this later on

You raised your eyebrows at him expecting that kind of attitude "Ok, then you won't mind me doing this then" You then slowly dragged the feather around his toned stomach drawing random patterns

Jungkook started biting his lip trying to hide his laughter. But it was so damn hard, it felt too ticklish.

"What's with the face Jungkook? You seem rather ticklish" You smirked

"I am not ticklish!" He yelled

"Oh I see" You then stood up

Jungkook thought it was over but boy was he wrong. He suddenly felt you rubbing oil over his foot. "I wonder what will happen if I do this?" You said wiggling your fingers on his bare sole.

"S-stop that!" Jungkook said a small giggle escaping his mouth. His eyes widened after realising it

"What's that? Is that a giggle I heard?"

"Nope, you heard nothing! You're just crazy!" He spat out making you gasp

"Well that wasn't nice, we can't let that slip now can we" You started using your nails scratching his bare two feet fastly.

Jungkook balled up his hands into fist, eyes tightly shut trying his best to bare it "C'mon Kook laugh for me" You teased

And just like that he realized he couldn't take it any longer so he decided to let it out "Oohohohohokaaayyy I'm tihihihihihicckliiisshhh nohohohoww pleheheheheaaseee stopppp!" He laughed loudly wiggling around the bed like a mad man. He tried tugging on his ankles to escape your wiggling fingers but sadly it stayed in place

"I know you are sweetie, look at how well you are reacting. But this is just the beginning" You finally stopped tickling his feet as you then went to get the electric toothbrush, two electric toothbrushes

"Now Y/N let's not have any of that please! I'm sorry! I won't mess with you again" Jungkook pleaded

"Hm let me think for a second" You said looking up, tapping your chin as if your thinking "Nahhh I'm having so much fun I don't think I wanna stop" You then turned on the two electric toothbrush with an evil smile as you went to his feet again using the electric toothbrush on them.

"NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO" He let out a cackly laugh as he began wiggling once again wanting to escape.

Already having enough with his feet you then positioned yourself back to sitting on his stomach and roaming the electric brushes around his upper body, from his sides to his tummy then to his ribs. At this point Jungkook's face was red as a tomato and warm tears were streaming down his cheeks.

Because you are so kind you turned the two electric toothbrushes off and set them at the side. Allowing Jungkook to have a quick break.

You watch Jungkook catch his breath heavily panting "My my Jungkook you are the most ticklish person I have ever met, Even Jimin can't beat your level of ticklishness (it's not a real word but eh😂)"

"I've never been tickled this much before" He said

"Yeah? I bet you enjoyed it"

"Did not!" Jungkook lied. He unexpectedly enjoyed it. He didn't know why but he just did. Of course there is no way his gonna admit that.

"You know there's this one spot I haven't tried yet" You smirked, you decided to use your fingers this time. To tease him you started wiggling your fingers  above his face then slowly you bring it down to a specific area

Jungkook realised where your fingers were going. He looked at you in horror "No Y/N! Don't you dare!"

"Oh I do"

"Y/N no no no no no n-AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH" You were now tickling Jungkook's armpits. And so far you received the best reaction out of the other areas you tickled

Jungkook was harshly tugging on the straps and head shaking side to side "IT TIHIHIHIHICKLES SOHOHOHOHO MUHUHUHUHUCCHHH" Jungkook screamed through laughter

You giggled "I can see that"

It's been 20 since you were torturing his armpits, poking them, scratching them, using the tickle tools on them."I cahahahahan't tahahahake it aanymohohohore"

"Almost done!" You blew raspberry on his left armpit

"Stohohohohop" Then u blew again on his right armpit "Pleheheheheaaseee"

"Last but not least" You said then did a final blow to his tummy. Jungkook's laughed has now turned silent.

After that was over you then untied hus wrists and ankles.

Jungkook was extremely exhausted. His hair was messy, he was sweating, his tummy was hurting from laughing, his cheeks were hurting from smiling a lot. but nonetheless he still he enjoyed.

"Hey Look Listen..." He looked at you scratching his nape "I'm sorry for scaring you the past few days, I have totally learned my lesson and I wont do it again"

"Don't worry I already forgive you" You smiled at him

"I-I don't like like admitting this but you're right...I did enjoyed it" You looked at him surprised.

"Really now?" You grinned at him with your eyebrows raised "Guess I have to do it more often then"

hehe ‘something special’ is part of a whole long series i’ve been writing for my friend and i (for our eyes only) but it’s one of my favorite scenes and him dropping the ice cream just felt very on brand 😭 he’s so silly and i love him and his bright energy. also funny story abt txt, i literally decided to stan them for reals w this comeback! so i know exactly what you’re talking abt!!! and actually i just did a smol uke cover of anti-romantic heh it’s been on repeat for the last few days and i love the whole album. every song is so good, esp 0X1=lovesong and dear sputnik, in addition to anti-romantic and ice cream ofc! well actually they’re all good sjdfkjadlf but yeah i think i’m officially a moa now :D

man, my wips, i wish i could i just crank them all out bc i wanna know what happens askdlal i’ve been saying this a lot lately, but i’m like, WHAT HAPPENS and i have to respond to myself like IDK U TELL ME and my internal monologue is just that back and forth 💀 but i think that’s a great lead in to your ask game question:

🍄how do you get yourself in the mood to write? honestly, it usually just kind of hits me at random times. some days, i have so many ideas and so i’ll plot everything out but i won’t actually write, so i’ll leave it for a while and then maybe come back to it when i get too impatient with myself. other days, if i feel stuck, what i’ll do is just kind of word vomit my thoughts and go back and edit everything later, or feel out the vibes. but i feel you, writing is honestly very hard, especially if the motivation just isn’t there :’( but i think my best advice is to just get ideas out of your head and onto theoretical paper!! then just start typing even if it’s just your thoughts like “uh idk what to write but maybe if kdjflsfjlkas”
