Elemental Spirit of Noblesse Oblige
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You found her standing alone in that abandoned domain, humming to herself. Around her, blue butterflies dance along her tune. It was very peaceful, yet also sorrowful.
She turned. Her mask made you unable to see what beneath it. But there's a gentle smile on her lips.
"You're not a spirit ... Oh, a human! Must be a soulweaver."

Can I request a Rooster X Reader where the reader is going to visit Rooster at top gun (with their little boy) and Maverick is hanging back watching as the and it’s sorta like the scene from The ‘86 top gun where Carol and little Bradley run to Goose ang hug him and it’s based off the song “glimpse of us”? 🥺
Déja Vu
-- I’m sorry for the wait, I won’t lie, this was really hard to write lol. I hope this works, I think it works lol
I hope you enjoy this!
(also, thanks @Igg5989 for your help on this fic, you are a life saver) --

“She'd take the world off my shoulders
If it was ever hard to move
She'd turn the rain to a rainbow
When I was living in the blue
Why then, if she is so perfect
Do I still wish that it was you?
Perfect don't mean that it's working
So what can I do? (Ooh)”

He remembers the last time this happened.
The blonde woman running behind the little boy. The man with the moustache and Hawaiian shirt. And him. If he was a betting man, Maverick would have wagered his entire salary that he was standing here last time too, on the very same pothole in the tarmac.
The boy screams “Daddy!” and the woman jumps into Bradshaw’s arms, quickly grabbing the rose out of his hand before engulfing him in a suffocating kiss.
But things are different this time.
Nick is gone and Carole is too. The Bradshaw that stands in front of him is at least a foot taller than both of them had ever been, and buffer too. The boy is four, the woman thirty but the little girl whose carrier she has deposited on the floor is only three months old.
And this time, he’s not alone hanging back. The Dagger Team waits with him as Rooster beelines for his wife. They laugh when the little lad jumps up and down in excitement. And they all smile widely when Rooster holds his daughter for the first time. She doesn’t look like much from where they stand, just a bundle of blankets and a tiny, pink foot sticking out.
---
“When you're out of sight
In my mind
'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes
And that's where I find a glimpse of us
And I try to fall for her touch
But I'm thinking of the way it was
Said I'm fine and said I moved on
I'm only here passing time in her arms
Hoping I'll find
A glimpse of us”

He also remembers the flight before the reunion.
Goose always steadied his nerves with a drink, before landing. He’d never tell Carole that the only reason he didn’t shake or run laps in excitement was because Mav had perfected the art of serving him just enough whiskey so that he could function like a normal human being and father, even after months spent crying for his family.
So when he saw Bradley take a swig of something from a flask, he had to laugh. With him, things had a way of coming full circle. Penny was back, Rooster too and he had been able to guess what it would look like between Mrs Bradshaw and him before Bradley had even set foot on the plane for the flight home. He was just hoping Bradshaw junior would have a longer life expectancy.
---
“Tell me he savors your glory
Does he laugh the way I did?
Is this a part of your story?
One that I had never lived
Maybe one day you'll feel lonely
And in his eyes, you'll get a glimpse
Maybe you'll start slipping slowly
And find me again”
---
And Pete would never allow himself to forget what came after.
He feels a little sick at the thought of it, to be honest. Especially after Bradley confides in him that Carole got him the exact piano they had played on all those years ago. But seeing Rooster play the song at the Hard Deck has apparently softened the blow a little, because when Brad sits his son up on the top and starts to play, he’s able to contain himself a little. There’s no flashback, there’s no panic attack. There’s just him, the Bradshaws, the team and Rooster’s dog.
Maverick can almost see Goose’s ghost standing in the corner looking at them all. He’d like to think Nick would be happy. And Carole too.
“I think we did a fine job” The ghost says and Pete’s not certain if he means Nick and him or Nick and Carole.
“It takes a village” It reads his mind. The ghost moves, it floats through a table and Bob, walking by. Mav’s not sure if he’s dreaming, but Floyd shivers as Nick passes through. It stops in front of him.
“Forget about me, Mav. None of this is your fault, but all of it is your responsibility. Get yourself a shrink and learn to enjoy this before it’s all too late, yeah?”
---
“When you're out of sight
In my mind
'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes
And that's where I find a glimpse of us
And I try to fall for her touch
But I'm thinking of the way it was
Said I'm fine and said I moved on
I'm only here passing time in her arms
Hoping I'll find
A glimpse of us”
---
So, Maverick makes an effort.
He remembers the last time this all happened.
Maybe Maverick should feel sad that a Bradshaw didn’t come home to this 34 years ago. But as he looks upon the scene, he can only think of how happy he is. How proud he is. How wonderful it is that Bradley Bradshaw grew up to be the man his father would have liked him to be.
“Granddad Pete, can we get ice cream?” Little Nick asks, he whispers it into his ear like it’s a secret.
“I don’t think your sister can have that yet”
“We don’t have to share”
---
“Ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes
And that's where I find a glimpse of us
And I try to fall for her touch
But I'm thinking of the way it was
Said I'm fine and said I moved on
I'm only here passing time in her arms
Hoping I'll find
A glimpse of us”
