#idk. i feel if you're writing an iconic villain you probably shouldn't let his father constantly upstage him when it comes to villainy

#this is the beginning of lionel's campaign to pit lex and clark against each other #a campaign that proved very successful in large part due to martha being very easy to manipulate after jonathan's death #clark wasn't as easy but he had no choice but play nice because of the whole oracle of jor-el thing #it pisses me off because lionel got exactly what he wanted #he ALWAYS got exactly what he wanted and ended up the winner #even when lex killed him it wasn't satisfying #take this episode that serves as a reversal of jitters: lex is driven to - let's just call them unwise - actions by lionel #and inadvertently creates a situation where lionel becomes a victim #but lionel still comes out on top and gets to humiliate lex in the process #just as he did in jitters #the only time lex got the upper hand was when he got lionel arrested #and even then lionel was just released in a few months and allowed to live his life as before #no matter how you slice it lionel wins #and lex loses #idk. i feel if you're writing an iconic villain you probably shouldn't let his father constantly upstage him when it comes to villainy #and getting off scot free (via @raelis1)
