I'd assumed that "doing" meant all the things. And when asking "how you doing" we're just asking them all at once. Of course when you ask a stranger or someone you don't know very well they're going to condense it down to "good hbu?" That normal it's a lingo we've taught ourselves. But then I forget that my friends might not realize I'm not saying the "greeting" but asking all the questions. So when I get the reply "good hbu?" there's a whiplash of 'oh I forgot. I did not ask the right question oops.'

I was able to explain this thought to a friend and would ask them: how you doing (what's happening in your life? What are you doing today? ect.) And we did get to the point that we both understood what I meant when I said "how you doing". Communication for the win! And then I forgot that my other friends might not know that.

What I say: how you doing

What I mean: what are you doing right now? What did you do earlier today? What did you have for breakfast? What are you doing later? Did you already eat lunch? Did you see something cool? Is anything big happening?

Them: good hbu?
