my beef with the revival plot in orphan black season 5 is that i do think it's a super cool concept! i would totally watch it if it were in its own tv show. it's a biopunk cult on "the island of doctor moreau"! the leader pretends to be nearly 200 years old to get people on board! there's a fountain of youth! there's a scary x-files-esque monster that ends up being a "failed science experiment" ripped of his humanity! it's all very cool on its own, it just feels soooo out of place in My Favorite TV Show

#like the weird cult stuff (the proletheans) worked in season 2 because of how it impacted helena #it was sooo interesting to see her go from “i have this divine purpose to kill the other clones because they're abominations”#to being WORSHIPED by this culty family for her cloneage. the contrast! the growth! chef's kiss!#but does this do anything for cosima??? like she connects with the failed experiment guy but cosima was never lacking in humanity!#and as a Woman In STEM™ cosima's little labwork scenes are soooo important to me & this gets in the way of that! for half the season!#idk i'm starting season 5 right now we'll see if my opinion shifts at all lol #ob rewatch 2023
