You not liking, or being made uncomfortable, by something in a story doesn't mean it wasn't "necessary" for the story the writer(s) were trying to tell. It just means you can't respect that other people tell stories different than you do.

#this could be about sex scenes given how many times that's come up #(I actually briefly managed to forget we've been having that conversation about sex scenes for years until I finished writing the post)#but it's also about certain kinds of violence or certain kinds of relationships that make the reader uncomfortable #you can just put the thing down walk away and never return you always can #some stories aren't your thing and that's cool stop trying to shove them in your mold #idk I'm getting kinda sick of the words 'unnecessary' and 'unneeded' wrt stories #like yeah there's a difference between objectively bad use of something in a story but #idk if I've ever seen these complaints leveled at those #queuing this so I forget what even inspired this before it posts so no one can ask me
