@cygninae and @drawings-and-nightmares :
"a well executed short fic can ruin your life" yeah. Illumination and brother you were so right, sure as the setting sun both altered my brain chemistry permanently and forever and i think about both of these fics almost every time i sit down to write. i love them so much, they're absolutely amazing fics. anyways, shout out to both of you, love your writing. <3
a lot of fic rec lists focus heavily on long fics but here’s a shoutout to short fics they give so much snack-size joy i hate how writing short form is sometimes looked down upon it has its own challenges and deserves so much more respect and love because a well executed short fic can ruin your life in 20 minutes

Hello! I must first admit, I am a bit of a lurker, and by "bit", I mean 100% actually. I tend to be a quite shy at the notion of interacting with folks online, even though I may read and admire their creative works. With that being said, I have been checking in on your Tumblr and "following" The Mad Witch for many years now. I got into HPHM maybe around 2018-ish, both the game and checking out the Tumblr posts. The Mad Witch was my first foray into ao3 and fanfiction, especially longfics, which if memory serves correctly I got into TMW early 2021. I remember reading TMW two times back to back - one time right after my very first readthrough because I could not get enough of it. Since then, I have read many, many fics, across many different Fandoms, all thanks to you and TMW who introduced this hobby to me, and to which I am grateful.
This is my first time interacting on Tumblr with a blog, and that is because I just have to let you know from the bottom of my heart that The Mad Witch has remained, to this day, my fave fic, and will forever live rent free in my head. I could list on and on everything I love about your writing; and I will! First of all, your worldbuilding? Amazing! How you flesh out your characters, both Canon and OC? To die for! The writing style? Chefs kiss! The plot? Stellar! Those random little details, that may not be concise, but help bring the world and characters to life? Delicious, I want more, the longer the better! Etc... etc...
I adore your characterization of Merula, and I adore your MC Lily Flores so much, that whenever I think of the general lore and story of the HPHM, my brain just goes straight to Lily, not my own - which is how fabulous of a job you did! From Penny, to Tulip, to practically everyone you have ever wrote in TMW - not to mention your OCs! Oh, I can not get enough of them!
I understand you will probably drift away from the HP universe in general. In the meantime, I will be there lurking and enjoying your works, whether it is TMW, or whatever else comes next regardless of which Fandom it may be in, I am here for the ride!
Should you ever feel the need to share random headcanons, or extra little tidbits, what-ifs of TMW universe, please feel free to! I would love to read those, and I am sure many others, both lurkers like myself or non-lurkers, would love to read it as well :)
Best wishes!
Oh my god. I've been rereading this ask all week, and I still can't even begin to articulate a response that expresses how much it means to me.
I'll never shame anyone for being a lurker because, outside of my own little corner of the internet, I am too. I am a shy nerd who counts plants and birds for a living and occasionally shares stories about women kissing. Which is why this ask is extra special.
Since I started posting TMW, I've had the beautiful, astounding experience of learning the ways my fic has impacted people. "Fave fic" is already such a high compliment. "First foray into fanfiction" is something I never thought I would hear.
So thank you so much for your wonderfully kind words! And for your willingness to stick around. While I will no longer write HP-related fics after TMW, I will still be open to answering asks about any plot lines I might've failed to wrap up once the last chapter is posted. I will also post a synopsis of every abandoned WIP, including the Merula longfic, so even if you don't get the full fics, you can at least still get the stories.
Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy what I have to share next!

agh it's been a long couple of days my brain is super fuzzy but i hope you've gotten some rest quil!!! and it sounds EXTREMELY fun, i've downloaded them and they are in my little electronic book library for when i gather the energy to read!!! although it is hit or miss ofc i enjoy alternating povs-- but will keep your notes in mind for the first couple of books! and ah, yeah i definitely understand the Queer Characters as opposed to characters who are queer thing, glad to know it exists in this book!! i definitely want to read them once i'm finished w this really annoyingly Mid trilogy that i have been skimming through bc i got invested 😔 rip i did not know this book was THIS kind of ya fantasy i am suffering a little bit it's got it all: random unnecessary love triangle! REALLY BADLY WRITTEN twist villain! all the mcs are either super op or super righteous for some reason! and it is written in a way that like. makes no place for queerness in terms of anything at all if u get me like. not in a hatred way but in a way of this world is a world where girls and boys are fundamentally different etc etc. it kind of sucks but i am on the last book so i might as well finish yk!
I hope you also get some rest! I am mostly recovered from my trip, no more random vertigo, and finding my routine again.
And!! hooray!! This is excellent news I'm so excited I can't even articulate. How much I love this books and want to share them with anyone and everyone who is willing. Of course there's absolutely no rush, take as long as you like--and if they're not for you, also totally okay! I will not be hurt :)
But yeah, get ready for. SO many alternative povs. Throughout the whole series. We are always jumping around between a bunch of characters--vast majority of the time they're main/recurring characters, but there's a couple of people we only get one or two povs from because they're in a unique situation to capture one part of the story no one else can. Anyway, point is: lot of pov changes, lot of characters to choose from to grow attached to.
And the series handles fantasy queerness in a way that just *chef's kiss* I adore. Gender and sexuality and romance! With different levels of social understanding and acceptance across the various fantasy countries! And how that shapes different characters and impacts their self-perception and how they interact with people from other places. Both on a personal level and a country-wide level. I think it might be my favorite exploration of fantasy queerness, but then again a lot about this book is my favorite. (oh and also! every book has a very in-depth glossary in the back for characters, world building, unfamiliar words, everything!! along with additional info like family trees, timelines, etc. they are lifesavers)
Sorry about the mid trilogy--though I won't lie my interest is a little piqued, I dabble in reading bad books on purpose from time to time. But I believe in you, you will get through it and you will find excellent media to offset and heal the wounds this one has inflicted <3.
I'm currently resisting the urge to reread a chorus of dragons so whenever you get to them I will live vicariously through you :)

As I reach my nearly two-year anniversary of this blog, which will be on February the 28th for any who are curious, I thought it would be appropriate to share a list of blog recommendations. Whether it simply be blogs I am enjoy currently, in the past, or anything else of the like, all deserve even more recognition, believe me.
So, without further ado:
@egcdeath -- By the gods, words cannot describe how absolutely awestruck I am by your work. The way you articulate emotion and action and just- everything? It's a work of art. I fell in love with your 'Love In Bloom' work months ago, and finding you again with your Soccer Parents series makes me ecstatic. I'm always left rereading and hungry for more of your work because it's just that good.
@robynlilyblack -- My absolute favorite Harry Potter writer I've ever read from. You have singlehandedly made me fall for characters I never would have thought about falling for. The emotion you put into your work leaves me weak at the knees sometimes, and the angst, oh boy, does it hurt when I read it. And there's so much comedy in your works, at times I find myself giggling whilst staring at my screen.
@quirkfics -- You write for some of the most underrated characters and I'm so happy that you do just that. I have, many a times, scoured the internet for works relating to specific characters that, unfortunately, almost nobody writes for. And then there's you! I cannot tell you how many hours I've poured into reading and re-reading your works because, truthfully, it's a little embarrassing.
@tired-teacher-blog -- My favorite Aizawa blog bar none. The way you write is, truly, mesmerizing. Every time I read something from you I'm always left in awe, whether that me with a grin or a flustered face or anything else of the like. You are doing the work of the gods.
@simpliao -- One of my favorite jschlatt authors on this website. Everything you write is adorable and fills me with warmth every time I have the blessing of reading through your blog. Everything you do is stunning and I am in love.
@jschqtt -- Another stunningly amazing jschlatt author, though I do love your other works with all the same adoration. Your works are so adorable and I cannot stress how seen I feel with some of your works. The prompts you write from just hit so close to home and the emotion behind them make them all the better.
@slxthxrxn-sxmp -- I initially found you from your Jurassic Park works and by the gods I fell in love with your writing so quickly. Just- every word I see on my screen when I read through your blog is captivating. I truly need to read through all of your works some time because I know how beyond worth it it will be.
@jschllatt -- My favorite jschlatt author on tumblr, easily. Though your blog is/has been, for the time being, inactive, I hope you know how much you, both as an author and as a friend, have impacted me. I still strive to write as amazingly as you do, though I reckon I have quite a bit of work to do before I create such art. You singlehandedly made me fall for more people than I can count by your work and I hate you for it. /j
@dreamwvrld -- The best author I've ever had the chance of reading from. And I mean that in all facets. You have been my idol ever since I started reading from you. The way you create such vivid scenes and the emotions you give the characters in your work leaves me at my knees. I still aspire to be like you, and even though you have left the fanfiction community, as I've told you, I can't wait to see and support you and your future endeavors. You have a fan for life here.
Writing, especially for a niche group as fanfiction writing is, is difficult and at times grueling work. The prospect of creating something designed specifically for a group of people to enjoy can be filling, but it is important to note the time and effort that goes into such work.
I'm apart of such a wide variety of fandoms and seeing so many people create content for them, spilling their thoughts onto a screen- it's beautiful. I'm sure many authors have seen me ramble in adoration about their works before, but it's important (at least in my eyes) to yell to the world 'look at this person and their amazing work!' from time to time.
To every author on this list (and to those who aren't yet), even if you're not currently or no longer active, even if you're only written a small number of works, even if you don't think your work is good (stop that, it is good and so much more), I, as well as the community(ies) you're apart of, adore you. <3
