one thing that does make me crazy and probably explains a lot about how i do fandom today is that. in the 90s clamp published x1999 which is technically a sequel to tokyo babylon. in this the main jesus figure teenage protagonist receives visions of a desert-ified tokyo in ruins from the prophetess-figure trying to encourage him to take humanity's side in the apocalypse (rather than the earth's). she implies this is the Bad Ending, since, you know, it's clearly all in ruin and humanity is absent although she is later revealed to be kind of possessed by evil so. this series goes on permanent hiatus after irl earthquakes that are too resonant with the themes/events of the story and it's never finished.
many years later clamp publishes tsubasa reservoir chronicle, which you might know as the sister manga to the noodle people one (xxxholic). in it an alternate clone* version of cardcaptor sakura fights a dune-style sandworm in a very similar desert-ified tokyo, and all the alternate-universe x1999 good & bad guys are there (close enough). however later it's revealed that this "acid tokyo" - it has massive, dangerously burning acid rains - is the desert alt-clone-sakura came from before she started universe hopping with the rayearth bunny and it's a huge reveal.
however. if you consider this - the "bad" guys in x1999 are basically anti-human ecoterrorists, and the "desert Tokyo bad ending" when considering a) the prophetess' evil possession and b) the acid rain in trc - it's essentially confirmed by proxy that hinoto was showing the protag visions of what will happen if he joins the human side and wins, and it's so much later and the source is so unfinished. nobody will ever care. except me
#peter posts#i am NOT doing official capitalization for trc/holic. im not. you cant make me#i've gone over the whole multiversen nonsense before jsut trust me#seishiro isnt there but he does Not count. for extremely obvious reasons <-vampire bullshit#clampposting
