Oh, thank you so much!!! I actually recognize your username/profile pic from commenting on one of my older fics. I actually still have more gen:LOCK fics planned to write! Most of them are ideas from before season 2 aired, but I've been debating doing a rewrite or making oneshots that go in-between some of season 2's scenes (or a sequel to my Cars crossover).

Some Thoughts About the Epilogue and The Western Web's Reaction

I still don't get everyone posting massive temper tantrums over their pairing not being in the epilogue. People mostly grown adults, if young ones, went completely banananas *and proudly showed it off.*

Go to Internet Archive and see how the fandom handled the rush-job, nonsensical ending of Digimon 02. And remember I was older/periphery there, too. This fandom was quite full of the target demograph of 12-year olds, not exactly a group known for level-headedness.

And yet, when the ending was abruptly rushed because the budget was yoinked over two months early, and a guy with a garage band was suddenly an astronaut, paired with someone he never really had screen time with, and soccer-mania kid suddenly wanted to open a street food cart, literal twelve year olds said "welp, time to ask my parents to let me on the computer so I can post fic to my Geocities pairing shrine and fix it myself!"

It did have the same hallmarks as that epilogue. Ichigo and Orihime's anything aside, including what Ichigo's even doing with his life beyond Kazui (not that I've ever heard of 一 being read as Kazu, but weird readings ARE Kubo's schtick) RenRuki did weird me out because they were built up more like siblings.

We also just plain never see what became of so many! Kisuke's family? Not even checked in on.

But my biggest beef is Chad's path. It was even worse than Yamato the Astronaut and Noodle Cart Daisuke put together. Those were just nonsequiturs.

Chad is VERY against raising his fists for his own sake. His granpa got beat up to prove to Chad bullying was not the answer, and the coin that's a memento of that day, Chad values more than his life. It's not like he ever goes Maverick tossing Goose's dog tags in the river (Top Gun) like Ichigo does with his Substitute badge. He's seen wearing it when DiRoy almost kills him, he's seen wearing it throughout the Fullbring Arc, the end of animation. (I hope he takes it off and scrubs it and his neck every so often!) And Chad has interpreted this day to mean that while fighting to protect a friend is fine, he shouldn't even fight in self-defence. And nothing to explain a change from that is ever shown.

I mean, the poor guy gets pretty shunted by the narrative the whole time, but it's literally against his character to use his fists for fame and fortune.

I mean, *I* think RenRuki was also pretty out there, but considering how much Tousirou x Momo fic I see out there, I guess it's not as illogical a conclusion to many as it is to me.

Something else does seem strange about the whole verse. I didn't notice it until Nanao's past was revealed. I took the explanation of families by the kid Chad talks to who died in WWII as *all families* until then. But souls can have babies without gigai? That seems... I mean, they already have balance problems, as presented early in the arc when Mayuri slaughters a whole village apparently motivated by that and not just because he was bored, as I would see that being IC, too.

And also "yes, you can be born a ghost" itself seems really strange.

This and more is why I have what some have called a saga in the works.

And in mine, Chad works for the ASPCA as rescue/transport, and struggles to not take animals home, particularly the ones who will only listen to him. They will probably settle in Los Angeles. SoCal is kinda crummy, but conflict makes a story. It will be a story of mostly queer neuroatypical immigrants (with magic powers), mostly POC, beyond about 2004.

But bringing it back to the first point, just I don't friggin understand what the heck was up with the fandom posting pictures of temper tantrums when what I'm doing is what a fandom with a lot of middle schoolers did the last time something like this happened. It doesn't make frigging sense! And I have never understood that. I'd love insight if anyone gets why that was a thing, particularly in light of that not having been a thing in 2002 with a much more prone demograph.

Until then, this is all I have to say to people that behaved worse than a collective of twelve year olds
