Penny doesn't appear to be waiting for anybody. In fact, she's doesn't seem to be expecting anything at all. The longer Hawk looks, the more of her he can make out—the legs pulled tight to her chest, the arms wrapped around them, the way she has her chin resting on her knees. She's made herself as small as possible; no one so much as notices her. He used to be a lot better at overlooking a woman at the most convenient moments, but now his heart twists like it's trying to escape its cage. He whines. "I'm not saying a word." BJ tucks his arms behind his neck and closes his eyes. "Mmm. Feel that sun. Beautiful, beautiful day." "So much for you shutting up," Hawk murmurs as he makes his way toward Penny, but he gives Beej a quick tap of their boots together as he passes by, the closest thing to a kiss that he can offer.

As Hawkeye and BJ sink deeper into their new casual sexual relationship, the nature of how they've related to each other up until now begins to change. Old tricks from their pasts no longer work the way they remember. Ghosts haunt the edges of their memories. Pockets of private time are fewer and farther between. And ultimately, come hell or high water, they'll either learn how to use their words or they'll lose everything before it even really begins.
