this is 100% unrelated to the seokjin asks i've been sending you slbhfb;sj but i just saw one of your asks about languages/dialects and tbh i am an aspiring language nerd? i love languages so much but i never really got a chance to study them so i'm trying to do more self-study now as an adult... but tbh i love dialects too and i also love thinking about common language roots and how similar-sounding words can mean similar or markedly different things in different languages? (1/2)
(2/2) like i’m studying korean and japanese rn and hajima (하지마) in korean means stop it but hajimari (はじまり) in japanese means beginning? idk it’s just v cool. and sometimes when i listen to korean i realize a lot of the pronounciations/way they say words actually is similar to hindi, which is my mother tongue – something about the way some of the throat sounds are made? idk idk it’s COOL i love languages!!
LANGUAGES ARE AMAZING and so fucking fascinating gosh catch me saying that over and over and over again.. hey i’m so glad you’re taking the time to study languages now !! i should too bc it’s been a while since i last sat down and studied but no time ahh i really hope it’s been going well for you tho
oh oh oh yes i absolutely love that?? it’s so confusing when you hear a word that you know but it’s in a different language and ends up having a totally different meaning .. another thing that fascinates me is how some languages have no apparent distinction between formal and informal speech, while others keep that line very very clear.. also grammatical gender? idk it’s just really really fascinating asdfdsa
it’s so funny that these words sound similar but basically mean the complete opposite?? && korean having a similar pronunciation to a language you already speak (your mother tongue, ever) will probably help you a lot when it comes to pronouncing difficult words bc you sorta already know how to say it!!!
but yeah …same here. i love languages so much i compare them all the time and certain differences just blow my mind
