Name: Heathers: The Musical
Authors: Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy; based on the movie of the same name
Category: Statement
Alignment: Desolation
Description: Statement of Veronica Sawyer, regarding the 1989 suicide epidemic of Westerberg High.
-
In 1989, Veronica Sawyer despairs at the hellish social hierarchy of Westerberg High, where students like her friend Martha Dunnstock are relentlessly bullied and the clique of Heathers (Chandler, Duke, and McNamara) rule the school. When Veronica’s gets noticed by the Heathers, they elevate her to a position of popularity, then order her to forge a love letter from jock Ram to Martha to mess with her. This causes Veronica to get entangled with JD, who has been constantly moved around by his dad and gives himself brain freeze as a self-harming coping mechanism. Veronica stands up to the Heathers when they cruelly prank Martha; they vow to destroy her reputation, so Veronica decides she’s a “dead girl walking” and sleeps with JD.
The next day, when Veronica goes to apologize to Heather Chandler, JD tricks her into poisoning Chandler with drain cleaner and fake a suicide note. Duke takes up Chandler’s former position and joins Kurt and Ram in slut-shaming Veronica after the jocks fail to rape Veronica. Veronica and JD plan to get payback by shooting the jocks with tranquilizers and faking their gay suicide pact, but Veronica realizes too late that the bullets were real and has a breakdown. Convinced the murders are for the greater good, J.D. urges Veronica to target Heather D. next. She refuses, so he complains about doing nothing in the face of injustice, revealing he witnessed his mother’s own suicide as a young boy, straining his relationship with his father and causing their constant moving around. When Martha tells Veronica she believes JD killed the jocks, citing the forged love letter as proof, Veronica (urged by Chandler’s ghost) confesses to the forgery, breaking Martha’s heart. McNamara publicly admits suicidal thoughts, causing Duke to lead the students in mocking her and almost driving her to kill herself. Veronica breaks up with an increasingly unstable JD, who blackmails Duke into making the students sign a petition.
Martha, heartbroken over Ram, tries to commit suicide. Veronica realizes JD intends to kill her by faking her suicide; even worse, he plans to do the same to the entire school by blowing up the gym during the pep rally and plant the “petition” (actually a suicide note) in the ashes. After faking her hanging, Veronica confronts JD and shoots him. Unable to disarm the detonator, she takes it to the football field, where JD insists on taking it from her and blows himself up.

Archiving Which-Item-Poll
Submissions are now open. Please see more details here
Trigger tag list - at the moment outlines NSFW tags but will cover other tags soonish
Tag directory - A key to the tags I use as well as ways to browse by category or the month the poll was originally posted.
Please follow @pick-an-item-poll as they're continuing to post polls where you choose an item
If you want to follow the original blog's new poll blog, it's @hear-me-out-poll
What is this blog?
Basically I'm trying to (manually) reblog everything from their blog to this blog to create a more permanent archive once which-item-poll deactivates the original blog. I'm doing this because tumblr's search functions are notoriously useless for finding specific posts and many posts get entirely lost without a blog's archive page. Additionally, this preserves the tags that contain the information about the items, most notably the websites where they can/could be found.
Once the archive is complete and posted, we'll see where this goes from there.
@which-item-poll if you want me to delete a specific post or a couple that I re-blogged from you please ask me and I will. (Even after you've deleted the blog, since I know your main)
About the Archivist
You can call me Arc (not my name, but it works for now), I'm non-binary and my pronouns are she/they! I'm not the original owner of which-item-poll. I'm typically slow to respond to messages, but will take any suggestions into consideration even if I haven't responded to you yet.
Archive progress
Currently in the queue:
Nothing!
January 2025
Completed Months:
*January, *February, *March, *April, *May, June, *July, *August, *September,*October, *November and *December 2024
*January 2025
(* these months still need their category tags reviewed and possibly edited)
Needs to be queued/drafted:
Anything posted by OP before they deactivate.
Updates
Everything from the original blog as of 18 January 2025 EST has been posted! Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoyed the throwbacks.
I still need to adjust the category tags I added to posts for browsing to make sure that they're all accurate, but other than that the archiving is essentially complete.
So now that the archiving stage is completed, I'm going to potentially create a new version of the pinned/introduction post later on. The focus will be on correcting those tags and finalising the tag directory rather than a new intro post.
Submissions for new polls are now open. If thats the kind of thing you're interested in, see more details here.
Previous updates under the cut
Update: My autotagger wasn't working, which I found out about 1200 posts into this. Currently working on restoring tags to the posts already reblogged. I've managed to fix my autotagger but I had to clear the queue and drafts. (I didn't want to do it... but must to preserve my sanity.... and more importantly my wrist) Once I've got the tags back on the January posts (manually) I'll be able to fill the queue and drafts back up with the original tags intact.
Update: Everything that was posted had the tags added back on. Resuming queuing posts (and I've confirmed that the autotagger is copying the tags). Starting the queue again since there's enough in there to run while I sleep.
Update: I have been misspelling February in all of my tags. I will fix this and continue to fix this as they get posted from the queue.
Update: All the miss-spelt tags have been corrected
Update: I made the pinned post nicer to read! I also added some information.
Update 15/12/24 EST: If I run the queue at 50 posts a day, it will take 45 days to post everything from the original blog to this blog.
19/12/24 7pm EST - Taking a very short break from working on the archive as I have my final assignment due for a university course due tonight. (in about 10 hours in my local time). I should be back to doing stuff with it tomorrow. :)
Update 21/12/24: I'm back to it and working on adding tags to posts before making a directory again. For now, All current archival posts and ones that are in the queue now have the tag #which-item-poll-archive
Update: I have lost my draft about new submissions somewhere :(
Since it was a majority yes vote on the survey about new polls, I'm currently considering how I'd go about doing that.
NSFW items are on their way to the top of the queue. Here's a post about the tags to block if you don't wanna see them! :)
The tag directory is completed! It can be found at the top of this post! There's also a new survey about it. Is it too long?
I'm also going to try and post some things manually to get that time down, but can't guarantee that I can do this a lot due to things happening IRL.
Needs to be queued/drafted:
Any posts remaining in which-item-poll's queue or any other post made between time of update (4:47am on the 15th of December EST) and when OP decides to deactivate the blog.
Pretty close to queuing everything now. Going to include some of the repeat posts from the month of December that were meant to let people know the blog was deactivating ect. But I'm not going to include every single reblog of them. Just for the sake of slightly smoother browsing whilst still backing up the posts.
I found my draft about opening submissions :) Now I just need to edit it so it's coherent.
I've finished queuing and drafting existing posts and are now waiting to archive any future posts between now and when the blog is deactivated.
Everything is now in the queue!
17/01/25 EST - Days left until completed archive: 3 days at 50 posts a day.
The tag directory is completed! It can be found at the top of this post! Since it was a majority vote to not change it, I'm going to leave it as is for now. I'll run another survey on if it's too long once I've pretty much completed it.

Hi! I'm curious, so may I ask why you choose not to include info like ratings and Major Archive Warnings in the posts? I love, love, love the concept of this blog and I think it's a really fun way to bring attention to hidden gems, and while I understand why you might not want to include *all* the tag metadata, as including the rating, the MAWs, the ships, the characters, aaand the freeform tags would rapidly make your posts feel very long and cluttered; but if you are accepting blog critique at all, I do think there could be value in at least making the fic rating and any Major Archive Warnings clear in the post, or even just in the tags.
Alternatively/additionally, I know there's the spreadsheet from the form submissions, but a dedicated pseud (or fresh ao3 account, if there are several mods) for bookmarking all the submitted fics could be brilliant for the purposes of this blog functioning as a way for people to find new fics, as unlike the collections function (which also comes into a second pitfall in the fact that people can opt out of having their work added to collections) the bookmarking feature has the tag filtering system built in.
Sorry this got a bit wordy, feel free to ignore it. I hope the mod/s of the blog have a lovely day! <3
The reasoning behind not including tag information is because I assumed people would look at the tags for themselves if the fic interested them based on the content of the summary and potentially the note from submitter. I often tell people to make sure they look at tags anyway if they have things that trigger them or that they would rather not read. I didn't see it as necessary, especially since this blog is technically just a "have you read it" blog, though I will admit that the true intention is for people to share fics they love to give the authors love and give other fans recommendations they may not have found otherwise.
It is only me, one person, running this blog. I could potentially have a pseudo specifically for this blog, because getting a new account requires a week wait, but I've never done a pseudo account before. All of my fan works are posted on one account. Bookmarking is a good idea for filtering, however, so I could spend the time I was going to spend right now queuing up more posts to catch up and bookmark things. I shall look into it and see if it makes sense to me.
Thank you, I hope you're doing well as well.
Update: I tried to create a pseud for the bookmark thing, but it only tangled them in with my main account's bookmarks, so I am not going to do that. This blog still works for that, and the spreadsheet exists. Plus, I tag the fics with [fandom] fanfic or [fandom] fanfiction depending which pops up for me or which I type if it doesn't so that's one way as well. In addition, ctrl+F search

HOT TAKE TOURNAMENT
Pre-Preliminary #34
Submission 202
Instant coffee tastes better than any other kind of coffee
I started drinking instant coffee while I was working on my thesis at university, as so many do, and I guess I just acquired a taste for it. Instant coffee is the only thing I can be arsed to make on the occasions when I'm tired enough to need coffee, and I guess I just formed a positive association with it that way. Also they often come with a little chocolate shaker and foam up like magic when you pour the hot water in. I feel like coffee that requires effort to make defeats the fundamental purpose of coffee.
Pre-preliminaries will be used to determine what qualifies as a hot take. Propaganda is encouraged!
Also, remember to reblog your favourite polls for exposure! (exposure like when your exposed to the fact that the KISS Scooby Doo crossover does actually exist, scarring you for life)

ALSO: a note to op. this blog is such a great idea, but have you considered setting up a google form for submissions instead? they work for people who don’t have Google accounts, and you can export the entries to a spreadsheet automatically instead of manually that way too. if you let submitters view previous responses you can prevent repeats too?
I've queued most of these! Exceptions below:
-Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary short story compilation: since only one of the stories is queer, I'm not going to include it. This is absolutely arbitrary, I realize, but for short story collections, I'm looking for them to be mostly queer.
-Two Tuns of Fun: I couldn't find any book by this name.
-Two Mummies / Two Daddies (kids picture books): are these individual books? I couldn't find anything with these exact titles.
-Beating Heart Baby and The Priory of the Orange Tree were already queued (they were both in my initial batch of queued books prior to going live with the blog).
The google form is a good idea and something I'll consider! At the moment, it doesn't save me any work, and actually creates more. I would need to check every submission anyway to make sure it's correct and in the format I want it in. Currently I've got a Google Sheets spreadsheet with all books (both queued and posted) for people to check if their suggestion has already been submitted. Thanks for the idea, though!

Some Updates & a Question
The final 2 Rounds are queued up and the last one goes out on the 30th which was on accident but is so satisfying for me tbh.
I'll be updating the Bracket as each poll round ends so it can go out pretty much the day after/two days after the last round is complete.
Update on the Backup Bracket:
It currently has 11 submissions. Hello!
On January 5th once the Backup Brackets close I'll start their initial sort. They won't be going out until this Bracket is done to avoid confusion.
I really want to have them set up in time to release them shortly after the winner of the first set is done. Their Winner will be put against the winner of the original Bracket to find The True Killer Robot though.
[Backup Bracket Submissions Here]
Remember: Kill Count, Aggression, not Target matters for initial submission. Just no Organics :p.
Also keep in mind
Update on a Looser Bracket:
Okay so I've been going back and forth on how I want to do this.
Part of me wants to go ahead and just record the losers as they go and sort them up for the follow up winners (2nd and 3rd).
The other part of me wants to do a form that way I only run people who people really wanna see on the bracket again.
So I figured I might as well weigh in with you guys since you're the ones who have to sit through all the post on your dash lmao.
No matter which of these we do, they will probably be sorted by which round they were eliminated in/if they got to do more than one round.

WELCOME TO THE PLAYGROUND OF THE GODS!
In this AU, Sun and Moon are gods of their respective celestial objects. It's a generally apocalyptic setting, much like Webtoons like Omniscient Reader and The Lone Necromancer, where they protect and assist you. But you don't have to worry about that, here, since I don't plan on dumping heavy plot on this blog! Check out this tag on my other (side)blog for more information.
Asks are currently being answered! I've queued up the old asks, so feel free to send in new ones! Posts are queued to two a day.
Sun and Moon's relationship is not that of brothers, here. Also Eclipse has popped in for a visit; maybe they'll hang out a bit longer? Baby dragon can be included!
Tags will be:
prayers and blessings for asks answered with art
prayers and thoughts for asks answered with text
offerings and sacrifices for any submissions
lore dump for asks answered with lore dumps
devil's tongue for mod talk
asteroid belt for any reblogs
Please note: there's not actually much religion in this AU, just the concept of gods and celestial powers and flowery language associated with religion.
REBLOGS DO MORE THAN LIKES!
Please remember to reblog before you like, for me and other creators you enjoy! Simply liking a post can be greatly discouraging to creators like myself, because our work is simply laying stagnant without your reblogs. Leaving likes on Tumblr isn’t the same as leaving likes on other platforms. Reblog are how to support creators, and you don’t even have to add anything to the reblog!

WIP Wednesday
@fiadhaisteach has tagged me several times, and each week I think, "I'm going to post!" and then I get distracted and forget. So, this week, I'm posting!
(shameless plug: keep up with my writing life here: bzelkovich.com)
I don't know who to tag, but if you want to share with me, tag me! Show me your creative pursuits!
Current WIPs:
Victoria; or, a Modern Frankenstein: Epistolary SF novel, currently drafting
The Lament of Kivu Lacus: SF short story, sold to Laksa Media, edit letter came in last week, so have to get it done and returned to the editors this week.
Something Sulfurous: Urban Fantasy novel, currently with beta readers
The Finest Creation of an Artful God: Folk Horror(?) short story, rough draft complete, queued for revision, most likely in March/April
Something Sulfurous query letter and synopsis: working on both over the course of this month
Sanura Trine: SF short story, complete rough draft awaiting revision
The Shadowboxer: Horror short story, rough draft on pause pending other projects
The Twins and the Haunted House: Horror novelette, rough draft on pause pending other projects
I also have 5 stories out on submission across 9 different markets right now.
Y'all, this is why my fanfic has creeped to a halt. I'm BUSY! I want to finish the rough draft of Victoria by the end of April. Then I can just revise things and finish some of the short stories I've put on hold. And then I can spend the summer writing fic. Please?
