hi!! i know you ran nurseydex week and there were a couple things reblogged about being cognizant of race in fics! I'm white, and I recently wrote my first fic and before i put it out there, i wanted to ask if you (or anyone else in the fandom) had any tips on making sure you are cognizant. i get accepting your mistakes and taking criticism and critiques well afterwards, but i want to see if there's any way i can make sure im being fully aware before posting! if you've got any ideas, post please

Hi there! It's good you're trying to be as aware as you can of these issues, bur unfortunately, as a white person, I'm just not the best person to ask for advice on these things. The only advice I can really give you is to listen to POC who are within this fandom. I know there was one really great post that was reblogged on the @nurseydexweek blog which addressed some specific tropes and tendencies within the NurseyDex community and that might be a good place to start to help with this specific ship, but also to look at some of the things that are mentioned and ask why those things could be harmful or offensive. It might help to get a broader understanding of some of the things to avoid when writing about characters of color.If any of my followers have any links or resources that I could pass along, that would be really helpful! I remember seeing a couple blogs at some point that were focused on POC characters within OMGCP and was hoping they might have some links or resources there but I either forgot their urls or their blogs aren't there anymore because I can't find them anymore.
