I was looking through some old monster high stuff and I decided to ask you this. I haven't seen the new reboot, but I remember how in the old show that Jackson wasn't treated as fairly as Holt. Would that still happen in the new show or do you think it would change?

assuming either of them ever show up, i want to believe other monsters’ treatment of them would change! the reboot has a much heavier emphasis on the young monsters studying normie culture in hopes of living alongside them someday, which implies they’re being taught to respect humans and see them as equals. the ‘fright flight’ has clearly soured things and not every monster is so willing to put aside their prejudices (hi moanica), but monster high itself appears to foster a positive culture. 

(if the ghoul squad salvages jackson and holt the same way they rescue other monsters, it might also give them the chance to go into normie territory and get a firsthand perspective of what it’s like there, correcting a ton of negative assumptions they have. i’d love to see that in the reboot universe, hopefully with better results than ghouls rule………)

i think while holt would be accepted in much the same way as he’s always been - a ridiculous party animal who’s a ton of fun, if extremely irresponsible and unreliable - jackson would be viewed more as a curiosity than a target; a real version of the things they talk about in class. he might face the same problems regarding whether or not he ‘counts’ as a monster, but i imagine it wouldn’t be used as an insult against him as frequently as it used to be unless it’s coming from moanica or her cronies. 

it’d be especially interesting if he still had a romance with (or at least a mutual attraction to) frankie, considering she made a lightly condescending mention of ‘normies’ when talking to draculaura about tash. it was only very brief and she showed no distaste for tash later, so it might just have been a throwaway line to introduce the ‘normie’ concept early in the movie, but if she does have some deep-set family prejudices to work through i’d love to see how she interacts with jackson. maybe trying to sort out what she’s been taught by her family from what she really feels? accidentally saying something insensitive? subconsciously favouring holt over jackson because he feels safer and more familiar than a ‘normie’? 

it definitely feels like there’d be a lot more interesting stuff to get through than the original setup of “which boy does frankie want to date more” (the absolute least interesting factor when dealing with such fascinating characters!!!). the reboot universe feels much more concerned with properly establishing new monsters rather than having them join the school out of thin air, so hopefully there would be an all-around more satisfying look at both jackson and holt and a more empathetic position for them within the cast.

jackson has always deserved better, honestly. if he and holt get put back in the reboot i really hope they’re utilised as the “tolerance and understanding go both ways” message they were clearly intended to be rather than just becoming the comedy punching bags again. :(
