i love to imagine that auldrant physicists argue whether sound is a particle or a wave, the same way in the real world we have this debate about light
#🌻#i'm thinking too deeply about fonons right now that my head hurts#i want a lecture about them#i think it's because i'm trying SO HARD to connect fonon physics with what i know about sound and wave physics#specifically whether fonons have a *specific frequency* associated with them or *ranges of frequencies*#(like the light spectrum)#the whole 3.14etc etc etc (i'm not big enough of a nerd to have pi memorized. sorry to let anyone down) being lorelei's frequency#suggest a specific frequency for a specific fonon#so are there like... grey areas between them?#i imagine every single thing has a number of fonons in their *pure* form (that is. that one specific frequency)#and the amalgamation of all those fonons produce the one unique frequency to that being
