Can you...explain MH and its plot/Lore. Roughly. I know its ages long iirc.
I would love to explain!.... that is, if there was, um, anything substantial to begin with. Monster Hunter games are very light in the plot department. Although, MH Wilds is supposedly going to have a thrilling cinematic story! woven into gameplay, which, uh, makes me a little nervous tbh. Because frankly, you don't play MH for the story. Honestly it's probably going to follow the same general formula as pretty much every other MH game:
"Oh no there's a scary monster that's getting too close to the village! Do something, hunter!"
"Ok scary monster is dealt with. But hmmm..... that was weird, usually that monster behaves much differently... 🤔"
"OH SHIT THERE'S AN EVEN BIGGER SCARIER MONSTER HELP!!!"
"Ah that explains it! The bigger scarier monster disturbed the local ecosystem and caused the smaller less scary monster to act strange. Case closed everything is back to normal now."
Roll credits. Repeat steps 1-4 as needed to create a "postgame." Throw in the occasional revenge plot if you need to spice things up.
Alternatively, do what MHGU does and forgo 98% of the story and instead say "uhh idk whatever. go fight Glavenus again. lol. lmao." Works just as well.
It doesn't help that most of the games are sort of isolated from each other story-wise, with the only references to previous entries being small easter eggs. In fact, up until recently, npcs didn't even have names. Just titles or descriptors like "[Village] Smithy," "Rookie Hunter," etc. Which makes it kind of tricky to have returning characters from older titles in the new games.
Each individual monster comes with some interesting fun facts! Though rarely anything that extends beyond the equivalent of a pokedex entry. And the monsters are grouped into classes based off of their body types and closest relatives, which leads to some silly revelations. Such as Akantor and Ukanlos both being classified as flying wyverns despite having un-evolved their wings long ago.
My favorite tidbit of lore is that the giant dragon Lao-Shan Lung is actually just a newly hatched baby. When it crashes through the fortress it's not because it wants to destroy everything— it's because it's running for its goddamn life from Fatalis.
Anyway! Yeah. Monster Hunter. Exactly what it says on the tin, not much more to say.
