Fruits of my labour // chapter 3
“Eomma, you're squeezing too tight.” Douhyun moans, trying to release himself desperately from his mothers grasp.
“I am sorry baby but eomma needs to protect you.” You can't help yourself but to squeeze him tighter.
“It’s too tight, just a little looser please” Douhyun asks.
“Ok baby, I am sorry.” you let him go slightly but keep him close to you.
“Can you please be quiet? I'm trying to sleep.” Yerum moans grumpily.
“Do you miss him hyung?” Douhyun whispers, looking at his brother's back moving along with his breathing.
“Of course I do. Douhyun, what kind of question is that?” Yerums breathing speeds up. His tone shakes slightly. You could tell he was close to crying.
“We all do baby, that's why you're sleeping in eomma’s bed tonight, so you don't feel so alone.” You don't want to tell him the real reason why you're keeping him so close, that what happened to his brother could happen to him. You needed to keep your boys close to you, you werent gonna lose them as well.
You weren't going to sleep anyway, how could anyone sleep in the situation you were currently in?
“Taehyung, I see you’ve brought a guest. How’re you doing, little guy?” The man asks, smiling at the shy child who grabs his fathers coat and hides behind his back.
“Hyungsik, this is Hoseok, Hoseok is daddy’s husband. You know what that is?” Taehyung peeks at the little boy who looks up back at his father and nods.
“You know Jimin and Yoongi are not going to be happy about this don’t you?” Hoseok glances up at Tae before turning his attention back to Hyungsik who was still hiding behind the comfort of his father.
“To be honest, Hyung, that is the least of my worries, I need to get my little man to sleep. We've had quite the day haven't we son?”
“I had so much fun appa! I loved it so much.”
“I'll talk to Yoongi and Jimin in a bit, just let me put my son down for the night.” Taehyung practically pleads with his husband.
“Very well, but please don't let it be known that I knew about this. You know what it's like when those two get angry.” Hoseok jokes earning a light chuckle from Taehyung.
“You'll be in the room though, nevermind this little guy it's nearly Jinnie’s bedtime, you know the rules.”
“Once Jinnie is tired we are all tired.” The two men synchronise, ending their conversation with a peck on the lips, Taehyung and Hyungsik head off to put Hyungsik to bed.
“Appa?” Hyungsik’s small voice calls from under the sheets.
“What is it, my son?” Taehyung, who was just about to leave before his son called out for him, sat next to Hyungsik on the massive king sized bed.
“I really enjoyed today but shouldn't I be going home? Eomma will miss me otherwise.”
Taehyung nods thoughtfully at his son, Hyungsiks words pulling on his heart strings, but he can't bring himself to tell his son the truth, that his eomma couldn't look after him like his appa could. Taehyung had more money, and more time to make sure his son had everything he needed.
So he lied.
“Actually baby, eomma said you should stay with me for awhile, how does that sound?” Taehyung questions while stroking his son's hair.
“It sounds good appa,” Hyungsik says, yawning half way through his sentence.
“You get some rest my son, I promise there's another fun day ahead tomorrow.”
Just as Taehyung got up to leave, Hyungsik asked him another question.
“What about my hyungs? Why aren't they here spending time with us as well?”
Taehyung could have sworn he heard his heart shatter into 3 million pieces.
“Well son, if your brothers were here with us as well, eomma would be lonely right?” Taehyung treads carefully, he was unsure if what he was saying was the right thing to ease the little boy's curiosity.
“Yeah, you're right appa, goodnight appa. I love you”
And just like that, the 3 million pieces of his heart were back together again and Taehyung felt like he was walking on clouds.
Never before had he felt this type of euphoria. It came close when he married the loves of his life but not quite, this was stronger. The happiest he's ever been, he's sure of it.
“I love you too son, sleep tight. What would you like for breakfast in the morning?” Taehyung catches himself asking.
Hyungsik was half asleep, Taehyung wanted to laugh. If he didn't have the DNA results he would've thought he'd picked up Yoongi hyungs kid by mistake.
Taehyung turns to leave but before he does he hears a gentle “Bacon n’ eggs please appa.”
But even with his half asleep quiet voice,Taehyung heard. “Ok son, i'll ask Seokjin to make it the best ever for you.”
Taehyung didn't get a response after that.
He smiled at his son one last time before quietly shutting his door and heading to the top floor of the manor where his and his husbands bedroom was.
“Ahh there he is,” His oldest Hyung sighs in relief whilst checking his watch. “What took you so long? And where were you all day?” If Taehyung didn't know any better he'd say his older husband looked annoyed, but Taehyung did know better. Seokjin was teasing him. He loved to do that to all of them and none of them have ever complained. They love him too much to complain.
But nevertheless he was going to answer Seokjin’s question, it actually gave him a perfect opening. God, he loved his hyung so much.
“Haha very funny,” Taehyung played along, admittedly quite nervous for the reactions of the men in the room, but it was now or never.
“I was spending the day with Hyungsik.” Taehyung responds, waiting for a response from the room.
“Who's Hyungsik again? Is he that really hot bodyguard that keeps checking you out because I swear to god if it's him Kim Taehyung you're going to have a man's blood on your hands.” Jungkook seethed,
“Are you jealous Jungkookie?” Seokjin teases, the oldest teasing the youngest.
“No it's he who needs to be jealous after all, Taehyung is ours. Not some greasy ex trash man.”
“Anyways, would you like to continue Taehyung.” Namjoon says, putting down his book to glance at Taehyung. Once glance and Namjoon knew there was more.
“Hyungsik is my son.”
The room stared at him in silence for a few moments and then both Jimin and Yooongi started shouting at Taehyung.
“What do you mean you were spending time with your son!?” - Jimin
“We had a plan, remember Taehyung?!” - Yoongi
The two continue to yell for a few more seconds before Namjoon shushes them.
“You two need to calm down, although I agree with their sentiment. You knew this was important to them, Taehyung. Why would you go without them?”
Taehyung sighs before sitting down on the edge of the bed.
“I'm really sorry and I know it was selfish but I couldn't stand the thought of my son out there without me being in his life. I am willing to do anything to make it up to you, I'll even sleep in the guest room and I'll rewrite the whole plan. But please, know that I am sorry but I did what needed to be done. You should've seen the state of the woman he was left with while his mother went out for ice cream. Your boys are safe for now I promise and they'll be safe until we go to collect them.”
“When will we collect them?” Hoseok asks
“Tonight.” says Jin, gaining the attention of everyone in the room.
“Yoongi, Jimin, you'll meet your sons tonight.”

family | part six
pairing: kihyunxreader length: 2.2k words genre: fluff summary: Kihyun’s first day alone with his daughter comments: kind of a boring chapter, but they have to occur for the good ones to take place.
other parts
Kihyun
The first rule of playgroup don’t reveal too much about yourself otherwise you won’t hear the last of it. Just remember you’re there for Sumi and if anyone asks you’re married. Kihyun replayed the words in his head, the ones you had told him last night before going to sleep. He could make it through being alone with his daughter for an hour, it’s exactly what he wanted, bonding time with her. “Where should we sit?” Kihyun asks being dragged slightly by his daughter, all the mothers had at least sneaked a glance at him more than once.
“Here.” Sumi sits herself down in between two boys, Kihyun turned his head to the side slightly a little jealous by her actions.
“You must be Sumi’s father, Y/N told me you were coming.” Kihyun quickly turned around to greet the teacher, he hadn’t even realised she was there.
“Ah yes. I’m her husband, Kihyun.” He smiles at the teacher. He was already in the role of playing your husband and you weren’t even here to watch it take place.
“Yes. Your wife doesn’t speak much about you, she usually is focused on helping Sumi learn. Today we’re making music, last week we did sensory skills.” Kihyun nodded his head, it was certainly going to be noisy for the next hour but he didn’t mind. Although things like this usually would, he was doing this to spend time with his daughter.
“We like to keep our lives private.” Otherwise in the years to come if someone knew your personality, they could use it to ruin your whole career.
“That’s fine, we’re about to get started.” The teacher left as Kihyun turned the ring on his finger slightly. The one he had put on just to make this marriage all the more convincing. He had also forced you to do the same, besides it gave him coverage for when he got offered marriage proposals from other companies now. Just mentioning that he had a daughter would make people leave him alone.
Kihyun sat behind Sumi kissing her on the head, she turned around to smile at him brightly. “Your daughter looks like you.” Kihyun looked to his right, smiling at the mother who had given him the compliment. “Y/N never talks about you. Now I know why… she must have wanted to keep her handsome husband hidden away.”
“Ah, thank you.” He smiled warmly at the woman. “What’s your son’s name?” He asks curiously of the boy that Sumi was friends with. It wasn’t like Kihyun could do anything about it.
“Minjoon. Sumi and Minjoon get along well, they usually sit next to each other in playgroup.” Did they now… His daughter couldn’t possibly leave him already for another boy. Jealously was flaring up in Kihyun after years of it not appearing.
“Everyone. Shall we get started? Today we are going to make some music, who would like to choose an instrument first?” The teacher started the lesson and Kihyun’s attention turned to Sumi.
X
“Mr Yoo. You have Y/N waiting on line 2 for you.” Kihyun put his finger to his lips as he carried Sumi in his arms asleep. His secretary quietened down straight away, she quickly moved around her desk to open the door to his office for Kihyun.
“Could you bring in some blankets. It was colder than usual outside.” He didn’t want Sumi to catch a cold on his watch otherwise you would think he was incapable of looking after his daughter. This was a test, Kihyun was sure of it. Whether the client was set up or not.
He carefully placed Sumi down on the sofa and took off his jacket to place over her, Kihyun smiled since Sumi took up only a small part of his jacket. Afterward, he made his way over to the phone to pick up your call. “We’re safely at the company.”
“Thank you.” He heard you sigh on the other end of the line, did you really not put that much faith in him? He was slightly offended then again Kihyun wasn’t sure how he managed the last few hours by himself. “Could you look after her until you finish work. I have a lot of work to do if we’re going to go to Shanghai. I’m also catching up from when she was sick as well.”
“It’s not a problem, what can I do to distract her when she wakes up?” He wasn’t exactly sure how to entertain a 2-year-old or any child for that matter.
“Toys. Books. Only use cartoons as a last resort though. What did you give her for lunch?” Any specific type of toy or book? Or should Kihyun just buy the whole toy store?
“She had pasta, strawberries and blueberries. Does she have a snack usually?” He should really be writing all of this down, but he would remember once he got into the habit of this. Maybe having a newborn baby would be easier, that way he could start from the beginning and raise the baby.
“She likes to drink water, you can give it to her through a straw. Just make sure you’re the one holding the bottle otherwise you’ll have a spillage. For her snack give it to her from mid to late afternoon, it can be fruit or a rice cake or jelly but only give her a few…” You had started to talk too much, which made Kihyun smile silently on the other end. This is what he had missed.
“I got it. We’ll see you later.” Kihyun hangs up and places the phone on his desk. He pressed the button on his phone linking to his secretary’s. “I have a task for the interns. Bring them in here in the next five minutes.” How many interns did the company have? Was it 4? After the presentations had been done? Since the applications were circulating at the moment. “Sumi, sorry. It may get a little noisy in here for a few minutes.” Should he admit to his employee’s that he had a daughter? Or to keep it a secret for now?
“Where have you been?” Hoseok strides into the room a little louder than Kihyun would have liked. He immediately shushed Hoseok as Kihyun pointed to Sumi on the sofa. Kihyun didn’t want Hoseok to meet her but some things you were never able to prevent. “Is this her?” His eyes softened looking down at the toddler.
Kihyun nodded as he sat down behind his desk, “Did you need me for something?” Kihyun asks logging into his computer. His eyes glancing from his screen to Hoseok and Sumi.
“Not particularly. I just didn’t like the idea of sitting alone in my office.” Kihyun nodded as he looked at his emails, narrowing his eyes at a couple of them. He never liked the contents of some of the emails he received, some of them were just spam, other times people had found out his email and were sending complaints or hate. “Who does she look like more?”
“Both of us equally,” Kihyun mutters, he had only thought of that in certain moments. He thought Sumi sometimes looked like him and other times she looked like you. His mind hadn’t completely been made up yet.
A knock on the window made Kihyun lift his head, his eyes immediately setting a glare on to the interns. He stood up from the chair, adjusting his jacket and moved to lean on the front of his desk. Hoseok looked strangely over to him, Kihyun would never talk to the interns unless he was forced to. “I need the four of you to find toys to entertain a 2-year-old. If you do well, it will impact your evaluation in a good way. You each have the limit of spending 500 on the company card. You have 2 hours. You can go now.”
“I’m impressed, you never talk to the interns like that.” Hoseok mutters, he wondered whether Kihyun had changed or he was forced to do that. Kihyun walked back around to his desk, settling down to do some work before Sumi woke up. He knew that you should never stop looking at a child because if you did, they would end up doing something bad.
“Did you bring any work with you? Or have you finished it? Maybe Minhyuk is available to be more company than I am.” Kihyun smiles a little, there was always a hint of Kihyun’s smile being fake. The only times Kihyun had a genuine smile was when he was with you. Now he had Sumi to add to that list.
“I’ll just look at your daughter since this is the only time you’ll probably let me see her.” Kihyun didn’t reply, what he said was true. Hoseok, although he wanted a family, he still acted immaturely in some situations. Kihyun would also like to avoid bringing his daughter to work, she may one day get in the way and annoy him. He hoped he would never get angry to point he could injure Sumi, if that day ever came, he would risk losing you and Sumi. As he looked back on the past, he never wanted to you to leave him again.
A few hours later
“Time to go.” Kihyun picks up Sumi taking her away from Hoseok, she had become attached to him in a matter of two hours. It baffled him really, so he was glad to go home to see you. “Shall we go see eomma? She’ll be waiting for us.”
“Eomma.” Sumi mutters in Kihyun arms, she stares into space holding tightly to a stuffed animal. With a small nudge from Kihyun, Sumi waved goodbye to Hoseok as he left the office. Hoseok smiled and almost looked slightly sad to be leaving her as he got onto the elevator.
“The car is waiting downstairs. The car will also pick you up at 8 in the morning to go to the airport, I will meet you at the airport. Would you like me to go over the schedule for tomorrow?” The secretary holds up her book, with a detailed schedule of the events taking place tomorrow. Kihyun was impressed with her skills, it was everything he wanted out of an assistant. She was well organised, tidy and knew not to disturb him.
“It’s okay, we can go over it on the flight. You’ve worked hard today, we’ll see you tomorrow.” Kihyun smiles at her, Sumi waved a little before she put her focus on Kihyun’s face. “Why are you looking at my face? Is there something wrong?” Sumi moved her fingers to touch Kihyun’s cheek, making him chuckle as the elevator opened up for them.
“Eomma.” Sumi repeated in the next few moments to herself quietly, it looked like she had missed you a lot Kihyun thought to himself. She must have had fun today, right? He didn’t want all of this to be for nothing. Kihyun wanted a permanent role in his daughter’s life even if you started dating someone else. However, there was some part of him hoping you would come back to him.
The elevator opened revealing you waiting there with a smile on your face, Kihyun’s face lightened up, “Sumi, look.” He pointed to you as brought the two of them together. Sumi’s smile came back as soon as she saw you, you took her out of Kihyun’s arms and into yours. It was a relief that couldn’t be explained when you could finally rest peacefully for the rest of the day. For an introvert, it can be explained in terms of when you arrive home after a long day. Or taking a bath to relieve stress.
“Did you miss me?” You ask kissing her on the forehead. Kihyun smiled at the two of you, your eyes move sideways to meet Kihyun’s gaze. “How was playgroup?” The foreboding question that you were reluctant to ask in case it had gone wrong.
“It was fine, everyone believes we’re married. We played with some musical instruments. There should be no rumours going around except for why you’ve kept me hidden for so long.” He smiles a little at his statement but when he looked at you, your eyes were wary of him. It was as if you didn’t want to trust him. He saw it now. Your reluctance towards him. You were stopping yourself from developing feelings again.
“That’s a relief.” You let out a small smile. Not allowing your emotions to fully take over you. “Shall we go home?” Kihyun watches you closely as you whispered those words to Sumi, you kissed her on the forehead and turned around to walk out of the building.
“You don’t look close at all,” Hoseok mutters beside Kihyun, almost jumping a mile, he shuddered.
“What are you doing?! I thought you left.”
“I was leaving until I saw a beautiful woman waiting in the lobby. But now I know who she is…” Hoseok was saddened by finding out your true identity then again he would have just used you for a night or two. “You don’t look close at all.” He says again this time hoping for a response.
“Things are going to change. I know she is still in love with me.” You couldn’t hide your feelings for Kihyun forever.

Mr and Mrs Kim, as parents was there ever a time when you strongly questioned your parenting?
Still tipsy over Sunday dinner.
Mr. Kim: Ohhhh, abs---
Mrs. Kim: --so---
Together: ---LUTELY.
Jin: Wait, really?
Mr. Kim: I might've given you too much sugar. Might've dropped one of you. Or all of you. At least once.
Mrs. Kim: I might've lost my temper a few times. And also maybe dropped one of you.
Jin: Who was it??
Mr. Kim: Anyway, there's no guidebooks to parenting---
Namjoon: There are literally so many guidebooks---
Mr. Kim: And each family is so different---
Namjoon: ---to parenting.
Mr. Kim: ---that you kinda just have to feel things out. (exchanges look with Mrs. Kim) And whatever resources you do lean on, you have to make sure you're on a good team.
Mrs. Kim: (grasping his hand) We know we've made mistakes. We aren't perfect. But we hope you know that we tried our best, that we're still trying our best, and that we love you very, very much.
Jin: Aw. Eomma. Appa.
They all exchange mushy expressions of love with each other, with Taehyung singing above the rest of them "I love you idiots" in a jazzy vocal run.
Namjoon: Were you always certain that you wanted kids?
Mrs. Kim: One of us was.
Mr. Kim: One of us was definitely not.
Taehyung: Were you sure about... uh... each of us?
Jin: (wide-eyed) Quick! Who were you unsure about?
Mrs. Kim: Seokjinnie.
Jin: Which one did you plan and think was flawless and how happy were you when you found out it was me?
Taehyung: (smug) Obviously not too thrilled, if they had to have two more kids to try and undo the mistakes they made with you!
Namjoon: You think they stopped after you because they hit perfection? Please. They messed up with hyung, had me, the perfect child, and then wanted to try again to have two perfect children but ended up with another dud instead.
Mr. Kim: Boys!
The boys keep playfully squabbling. Mrs. Kim leans over to Mr. Kim.
Mrs. Kim: I'm actually starting to question our parenting right now.
Mr. Kim: (pouring her another glass) Ahh, just have more wine.
