VENOM WAR #5 Just some of my thoughts, big Spoiler Alert for those who haven't read it yet

I actually read it yesterday the 27th, but decided to post today because I needed to think a bit. Not my favorite Venom comic by far.

☆ So finally we have desidated piss-colored Venom, wohooo *low tone

I still think the design is mediocre. But at least I have a better answer as to why it's yellow. Also, I'm glad the first host to try it was Dylan. I was afraid they introduced the new host too quickly, because I've already felt like these last few comics are jumping from point to point like a machine gun.

Dylan not wanting to hurt his father and Symby not wanting to hurt their lover.

It hurts my heart Symby admitting that they loves Eddie in all his forms even in Meridius one.

Not even Maridius saved! Anyway he's dead now, I was expecting something more dramatic, but whatever, man, okay I guess.

At least the panel looks cool. Dylan always taking his enemies by surprise, never turn your back on him.

I have to look up again what his deal was in all this, because I don't remember if he's alive or dead.

Now that the symbiotes are dying is he going to die too? Or is he finally going to do something interesting after all this time?

I've always felt that they wasted Lee's potential and could do something interesting with him. So I hope he doesn't just die... again...

☆ At least Flash is okay now. At this point I'm wondering if Anti Venom has a conscience or is just a permanent part of Flash. Also technically part of Eddie... gay.

I hate how cute Sleeper looks, it's not like you just witnessed the death of two gods, nah. Now you can go back to loaf like a lazy cat.

I don't think many people really liked him that much, and he was actually a bit of a confusing character at times, but I loved his design.

A little in disbelief that this is the end for him. I'd like to assume there's a little more.

☆ But good things don't last. I guess the symbiote is toxic for Dylan now? Is the symbiote toxic to all the other symbiotes now? If anything, the symbiote thinks it's going to die now and that's why it decided to leave?

I can... I knew they weren't going to stay together because Symby is getting a new host now, but damn. Does anyone else feel like the unions feel anti-climactic in this comic? I guess they were just in a bit of a rush to wrap things up.

Which is... understandable. They've been doing this crap for like 3 years now, it was time to let it die. But it makes me so sad that Dylan is alone again

The only good thing I can take away from it is that at least the comics are more self-aware that Symby is Dylan's father.

Which means Dylan is going to try to commit patricide again.

Understandable. My poor baby is 14 years old and has no one to turn to.

His brother I guess (Sleeper), I don't know if Flash could take him under his care, anyway Dylan is almost as stubborn as his father to simply get a tutor and go back to his normal life. Probably and technically, we know that now he is going to dedicate himself to hunting the All New Venom

☆ The fact that the symbiote is now toxic to other symbiotes is just an excuse for it to not rejoin Dylan? Because that sounds like bullshit.

And yes, I GET THE POINT. If Dylan joins the symbiote it creates this apocalyptic future that Old!Dylan is trying to prevent... I know, but it still seems unfair to me.

I wasn't understanding what Carnage meant by "Partner".

I think is referring to Meridius or Cletus. So now they're both single, lonely, and hurt.

wot rewatch: 1x1 - leavetaking

Rewatching as prep for season two! These are going to be pretty spoiler-heavy for the books (will note how far) and kinda live-bloggy - I'm briefly pausing to note down thoughts but won't be writing out entire paragraphs. Just little notes as I go on.

Spoilers for the entire first season and some s2 spoilers plus through maybe The Dragon Reborn in the books. Maybe only The Great Hunt.

1. Fascinating how Liandrin's perspective on men and the One Power is the reverse of the truth. It's not men who make the Power filthy but the Power that makes men go wrong (because of the taint). I do think she genuinely believes what she's saying here though.

2. We get a lot of info from Moiraine and Lan here: we know there's an active prophecy, we know that the Dragon can channel, we know they should be 20 years old. We also see Moiraine's doubts and her wishful thinking both at play: she doubts/tests various parts of the prophecy but does not let herself believe he was gentled before he could ever be found.

3. The rumors in/out of the Two Rivers are interesting to think about - it sounds like the idea of ta'veren must be fairly widely known -- given that we know in TGH that at least one of Moiraine's eyes-and-ears is Tuatha'an, I wonder if the group of Tuatha'an near the Two Rivers that Egwene & Perrin run into (with Ila & Aram) is also the group that has Moiraine's spy, in the show canon. EDIT: we know from TDR about her spy, not TGH, lol

4. I am So Interested in whether or not s2 will get into the emotional details of Egwene not braiding her hair anymore.

5. It kinda feels like the show went more hardcore egalitarian for the Two Rivers than the books did -- we never hear anything about the mayor or village council and the women's circle is a rite of passage for womanhood as opposed to being a governing body.

6. Wolves! ❤

7. Some people apparently took Rand calling past-him a sap as him being... a Chad now? Very strange. He's obviously not being serious (and he brings Egwene a berry in this very episode).

8. The scene with the three boys is so good for establishing them as friends but also showing Mat is not supernaturally lucky here, and we see Rand and Perrin's concern and affection.

9. Enter our Mysterious Wanderers. It's a great dramatic entrance for our very Dramatic pair. Moiraine taking a good look around trying to clock all the twenty year olds.

10. So we get introduced to all the celebration and joy first... and then after Moiraine's intro, we get into the various emotional turmoils each of our younger cast are facing:

a. Perrin's marriage is somewhat troubled.

b. Mat's parents have created a troubled family life for him and his two sisters and he is basically the one raising his sisters even while having to deal with his drunk mom telling him he's a terrible person.

c. Rand and Egwene's relationship breaks up as they realize for the first time that they have grown into having incompatible life goals (a problem that will not go away even after their individual situations completely change).

Despite the idyllic scenery, the emotional undercurrents in the village are complex.

11. First we have Moiraine specifying that they need two beds and then we get the lovely non-sexual bath scene with Lan and Moiraine. I love how much we get to see Moiraine & Lan being platonic companions.

12. I like that Egwene and Rand truly care deeply about each other but that doesn't make their lives compatible.

13. Love how we go from the whistling background sound over the Fade to Fain actually whistling.

14. The next morning, we get Mat pawning the stolen bracelet -- this helps sets up why he steals the dagger later; Mat has an incentive to need money that isn't about being greedy. But then we also see in the later scene that his friends very much want to help him. And Mat shows deep emotional intelligence and concern with Rand as well.

15. Nynaeve gets knocked out as a Dragon candidate right away, due to being too old to be the prophecy baby. Sadly, in the process of figuring that out, Moiraine burns a bridge with Nynaeve (who already wasn't inclined to trust her).

16. The Wisdom cleaning the sacred pool fits very well with Nynaeve becoming a "servant of all" aka Aes Sedai (just like Egwene surrendering to the river is a mirror of surrendering to saidar). But also the Wisdom is really the only 'leader' that we get introduced to in the Two Rivers in the show.

17. I am very curious about if the issue of the Old Wisdom comes up again when Nynaeve is in the White Tower. Nynaeve does seem aware here that Listening To The Wind is connected to the One Power.

18. Again, I love how the Rand, Mat, Perrin friendship feels substantial here and not just because they're all the same age so they hang around together.

19. Love getting the themes here of rebirth and how the reincarnation aspect of the lore feels present in people's everyday lives.

20. Nynaeve being separate from all the other villagers so they can't see her pain. My heart!

21. Now that we've set up Life As It Is, it's time to break it so that the main story can start. Lan brings the news about the Fade & Trollocs and Moiraine confirms that she doesn't know which of the four kiddos is The One (a good thing, as it turns out).

22. Some good character work during the fight:

a. Nynaeve trying to protect and heal her people.

b. Fain just sauntering off without a care.

c. Mat going back into danger to save his sisters.

d. Perrin doing something to make him terrified of the violence inside hinsrlf.

e. We see that there's more to Rand's dad than meets the eye.

f. Rand defeats the Trolloc but at a cost (his dad getting horribly injured).

g. Egwene & Nynaeve both willing to fight back, even when they just have belt knives.

h. Once Moiraine and Lan are able to turn the fight (and we get some lovely choreography of then working as a team and seeing how Warders aid their Aes Sedai), the villagers take heart and really together against the Shadowspawn.

23. Overall just a good job showing how traumatic an attack like this would be.

24. Anyway, it felt clear to me that part of the reason our kiddos don't argue much with Moiraine after the battle is because they're all pretty shocked and traumatized. None of them have ever experienced anything like this!

25. I hope the implied flashback for Moiraine & Siuan in s2 has us getting the prophecy onscreen but it was still cool to hear Moiraine telling them about it here.

26. There's a great shot here of Moiraine facing Egwene and Rand and we see all three of them in shades of blue. Meanwhile, when we swap to Perrin and Mat, Mat has a tiny stripe of blue but the two of them are more earth-tones. Channelers vs non-channelers? Rand puts on an earth-tone coat as they leave - because he's going to be in denial?

27. Right now, Moiraine is saying they need to get to the protection of the White Tower (meaning Siuan and her attempts to ready the Tower). And that's a wrap on episode one!

"Syrena Shepard." A familiar voice brought her up short.

"What?"

"They said you were all grown up and being good."

"Back off Finch, didn't they tell you what happened to the last person the Red sent after me?" Syrena could already feel Kaidan tense up at the name of the old gang, Garrus looked at her confused.

"Oh I'm not after you, we want your help." Finch replied, sliding his arm over her shoulder, a bad move all round. Kaidan reacted faster than Garrus had ever seen him react before.

"Hands off the Commander." He stated through gritted teeth,

"So it's true, you still exist too." Finch grunted as Garrus stepped over to where Kaidan was holding Finch.

"Maybe reevaluate who you are dealing with?"

" Really? Aliens and space magic?" Finch grimaced.

"Let him go." Syrena stated, "Kaidan. Garrus. "

She motioned them back behind her. Finch looked delighted, as they moved, once they were clear however. Syrena slammed the gangster up hard against the wall, a reasonable height off the ground.

"Don't say I didn't tell you so.." she said sweetly "I am no longer a Red, I haven't been for a long long time. You upset or hurt my friends again and so help everyone I will drop you out an airlock."

"Just talk to the turian guard in Chora's, and we won't bother you again." Finch snapped and she dropped him to the floor. "Gods Cherub, you got nasty."

That nickname made Kaidan growl under his breath.

The turian in Chora's Den proved to be some guard of a facility.

"I just had a gang member try and bribe me into dealing with you, can you tell me why?"

"Ah the Tenth Street Reds, running drugs and hate crimes against aliens."

"I see." Syrena shook her head.

"Problem?"

"No, but you might want to increase your guards."

"Noted."

"I knew it!" Finch declared.

"Knew what? I told you: mess with my friends and find an airlock." She shook her head " I didn't say I would help you. I am not that stupid."

Later once they had left the noise of Chora's Den, the three of them headed to have a drink.

"So how do you know each other?" Garrus asked glancing between the two of them,

"I was put into the same biotics program as Kaidan." Syrena replied, glancing at Kaidan.

" It was meant to be rehab, but the Reds found me."

"Rehab for what?"

"I was a street kid Garrus, a thug and a mouthy one too. Funny how meeting Kaidana d some others changed my entire outlook."

"Really?"

"Really. I was taken off station for medical care then it fell apart. So my room-mates family thanked me by paying my way through school and college. Then I joined the Alliance." Rahna, if Kaidan ever wondered about that girl, Syrena knew what happened. If he still fought over the ghost of her, well, then maybe it was time Syrena moved on too.

"And Kaidan?" Garrus frowned.

"I was there the night she got attacked, well her roommate woke us up, my roommate and I ran to help."

"Saved my life."

"Uh yeah. " Kaidan blushed.

"Ok I get it. Wow, that's dramatic and you were both16?"

"Um, he was. I was 14 I think. Yes I'm an L2, exceedingly lucky, no migraines no complications but I do get checked every six months."

"Wow impressive." Garrus nodded "but…"

"Yeah but Kaidan spikes higher, at a cost." Syrena sighed as the omni-tool notification sound drew them all back to reality. "So much for shore leave. Huh Wasn't me, that's first."

Garrus made a face.

"My father wants to talk to me, so I had better go call. See you back at the ship Commander, Lieutenant."

"You okay?" Syrena turned to Kaidan as Garrus walked away.

"I think so,"

"Not going to ask me about Rahna?"

"I don't have feelings for her, if that's the question. You kept in touch?"

"She told everyone who would listen that I saved her life." Syrena shook her head "I ended up with all expenses paid and a stipend to study university. She married a guy her father chose for her. "

"Wow."

"Yeh, that's the last thing I expected, but she is happy doing what she can to change the world." Syrena sighed "I always envied her that happiness, well that and you."

Kaidan blinked as if he hadn't heard her correctly.

"We are on shore leave, I am allowed to tell you aren't I?" Syrena asked quietly, wordlessly Kaidan nodded.

"I remember you being nice to me even when I didn't think I belonged, before I wanted to. " Syrena chuckled "I think I called you a princess."

Kaidan smiled, "You did in fact."

"Well I was interested in you from about then." She shook her head "I've never in the meantime dated anyone else."

"Sy." Kaidan replied.

"Yeah wrong timing, maybe when we get Saren out of the way?"

"I…"

"If you are interested. Gods when did I become someone who talks too much?" Syrena buried her head in her hands.

"Syrena?" Kaidan murmured, closer to her than she had expected.

"Is it safe?" She asked lifting her face to the side his voice had come from only to be met with his lips on hers.

It was like the galaxy froze for just a minute. Then Kaidan pulled back with a sigh.

It was a promise she had waited a long time for.

"Rahna?" Fifteen year old Syrena asked her new friend of a month.

"Yes?"

"What do I do if I have a crush?"

"Wait. If it is meant to be more than a crush the feelings will hold, if it isn't the feelings will fade and new ones will come." Rahna looked up from the homework she was writing on her bed " You like Kaidan?"

"I think. It's new." Syrena replied "Plus you like him, and he likes you. So it doesn't make sense."

"Not right now, we are all kids really, we can't tell the future, so it still stands. Someday we will be in love and that is supposed to be a lot more fun."

"Thanks Rahna,"

"Syrena, friends last through all of that."

It was all new, having friends, people who cared. She would wait and guard these good things with her life.

Hi I'm a new jikooker who was casually shipping jimin with everyone and everything on the planet because I find his interactions with everyone so cute. But then I realised how real jikook interactions felt. If supposedly jikook is a thing, I'm always so curious at why jk is especially agitated when there is a minjoon moment? I'm pretty sure namjoon does not think jimin that way. Just wondering what your thoughts on namjoonxjikook?

We been knew that Jungkook is a whole Minjoon anti. The only other person (that we know of) that comes close is Taemin.

I have many thoughts on Namjoon x Jikook with the main one being: someone please save RM from these two. It's a little bad but mostly funny how Joonie is always the one caught between their antics, quite literally most of the times as well. Also, as the leader, he has the unfortunate position of keeping check on everyone in public and probably no-one gives him more trouble than the idiotic Busan duo. Those two would be headache inducing if you have to deal with them, as much as they're cute as hell. There's just some people (couples) who, albeit being very sweet and nice people, you just can't help but groan at. (Too much sugar can do that to a person)

Joon, as hard as his position between the two (love) birds can be, is very fond of them both. Not many people may realize it but he and Jimin actually have one of the deepest, most interesting relationships within the group. They have mentioned they often have deep conversations on different topics and despite Namjoon being older and the leader he tends to confide in and depend emotionally on Jimin a lot. They share with each other, comfort each other and all in all have a massive soft spot for one another, on top of their more profound understanding. They've also kind of went through a similar path in terms of self-acceptance, self-image and breaking with toxic masculinity. Basically, they share a deep and intellectual bond and are friends in the most straightforward way.

As for Jungkook and Minjoon, his reaction to them is quite funny if we imagine Jimin as his current love and Namjoon as his first crush. Kook did, after all, joined BH because of Joon and let's not forget his first words to him were "Thighs". So, yeah, it's not totally impossible to imagine 13-14-year-old JK having a little crush on his older, cooler bandmate.

This theory is very funny to entertain, though more probably Kook's aversion to Minjoon may have to do more with his own insecurities than anything else. Basically, from the dawn of Bangtan (how dramatically sounding) JK has admired Joon and has seen in his face a sort of role model. Namjoon is creative, superbly talented, very intelligent and introspective, smart, responsible, strong and sensible, yet appreciative and encouraging. He's a whole man, really. And he's also 3 years older than Kook.

It's not hard to imagine Jungkook might have felt insecure in comparison to him, especially seeing how close NJ and Jimin are and not to mention how soft Joon is for JM. While we can't know what's Joonie's sexuality, he has publicly stated he finds Jimin "sexy" and that eventhough Jimin is a man, he "can't help but find him attractive". Doesn't sound very platonic and bro like but hey, it's Jimin, there's no person (supposedly straight or not) that doesn't find him attractive so 🤷‍♀️

All in all, Namjoon has the responsibility of keeping an eye on the "all nighter friends" (and try not to kill them), Jungkook routinely suffers and Jimin has two people to coo over him. Lucky Minnie.

Btw I'm not a hater, I love her old music. But lwmmd is (more musically than lyrically) mediocre, and incredibly petty overall. Even if it is somehow satire- The SONG itself NOT the video which is clearly a parody- its nowhere near Blank Space levels of songwriting, music or savagery. Ready For It is sooo much better.

I don't think it's without a grain of truth nor am I trying to dismiss anyone's opinions or think it's her best song by a long shot so if you don't like it that's fine, you don't have to I'm just saying it's obvious that it's not just about one person/situation and there's more to it than there appears on the first listen. We all know she's had beef with various other celebrities over the last few years so I agree she'd be mad about that and her ruined reputation that resulted from it (whether you want to argue it was her own fault or completely fake or whatever; I'd probably agree with you) but if she wrote that song in all seriousness and was that over the top petty about it then that would only serve to ruin her reputation further by making her seem immature and uncharacteristically dramatic and petty even for her. On the first listen I would've agreed with you and argued that she was so over it all that she was going all out and didn't care anymore what anyone thought but as much as I was here for give no fucks Taylor the more I saw people's analysis's of it (Brian Mansfield said something particularly interesting on Swiftcast which broadened my theory of it even further. He said he thinks every song on the album could be from the point of view of a character to avoid getting as personal as she once did in her music at her level of fame similar to albums other artists have done at a certain points in their careers. I believe he referenced U2 and the Beetles specifically. And it goes right along with the 14 different Taylors and the one "real" Taylor theory involving the music video which she also liked. Idk if I 100% believe it, it's just something to think about) and thought about everything I've learned about her over the last nine years the more I realized that that's just not who she is. She could never just give no fucks, especially about her image or her career. She wants everyone to think she couldn't care less anymore about her image and what people say about her and that she's all edgy and angry now but in reality the old Taylor who cares deeply about what people think is still very much alive. She took a break, she didn't become a different person, she's just going for shock value. Right down to how she sampled everyone's favorite pop song to hate "I'm too sexy" (which the writer has also said was a parody on society and the type of people who think they're just above everything and better than everyone else) and made it the most basic unmelodic pop song you could imagine coming from a songwriter like her. She knows that even her most shocked fans will realize this the longer they listen to the song and watch the video (which is a different thing yes but what sense would it make for the video be a parody if the song's not?) as well as seeing how she is in the bts videos and whatnot. She's still acting the same, being silly, liking posts on here (many about the song so it's not baseless), she's just not doing interviews and hasn't said anything about the songs yet because she wants to stay out of the media so that she has complete control of her reputation this era and everything remains about the music and doesn't veer into her personal life. She knows they'll still say negative things about her but if she removes herself from it then she can keep herself from caring too much about it and therefore preserve her sanity while still staying ridiculously famous so it's a win-win. And obviously it's not as obvious as Blank space because this time she wants to give the media what they want and make them/the general public really believe it's true and that she's going after Kanye or Kim or Katy or whoever they want to believe it's about by dropping not so subtle hints that relate to them (just like she's always done with her boyfriends when she wants everyone to know -or at least think - a song is about a certain guy). We all know she can write a better song musically and lyrically but nothing is done accidentally with her. I love her, honestly so I don't mean to sound like I'm shading her by saying all this but tbh she is calculating like people say. I don't think it's a bad thing at all, it's obviously served her well in her career and I relate, but it's true! People can feel how they want to about her and her music but she definitely puts a great deal thought behind everything she does. There's over 35 old Taylor's in the LWYMMD video! lol
