So, it's Thanksgiving, and I'm spending it alone in a country where it isn't even a holiday. I'm in a mood because of a lot of things this month (not just the Terrible Awful Crappy 5th).

Buuuuuut I wanted to spread a lil cheer, and be thankful for this hellsite and all the ColdFlash creatures I've met while scrolling through here--@theroguesharlequin @hardwiredweird @notquiteinsane @hautecoldture @softboydepot @simpledontmeanpeachy to name a few (while I'm still vaguely sober). So here's a snippet of a scene I've been tinkering with for That Rare Arctic Thunderstorm, which is hilariously set on Thanksgiving 2015. Not the final version, of course, and yes, there are... redactions marked by brackets ([])... but hey, HAPPY TURKEY DAY, 'Murricah! And to the rest of you, early happy weekend!

“Right on time, Doc,” [Len] drawled, opening the front door for Henry Allen. “Len, good to see you, son,” Barry’s dad said, a genuinely pleased smile on his face as he handed over one of his two large, heavily stuffed tote bags. He was all bundled up in cozy fall colors. “Happy Thanksgiving! Mike and Avigail send their regards—along with fresh sweet potato latkes, jelly doughnuts, and something called… borekas?” “Huh, here I thought a pit-stop at the Birnbaums’ would take you longer.” Len turned to hit the elevator button, trying to ignore the funny way the endearment made him feel. “I wouldn’t be late for my first Thanksgiving as a free man,” Henry remarked as they stepped into the elevator car. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week.” “You and Scarlet both, Doc.” Len would have shrugged and smirked, but in the face of Henry’s warm smile, he couldn’t manage enough nonchalance. “I think we’ve known each other long enough for you to start calling me Henry.” Barry’s dad clapped his shoulder with his free hand. “I’m actually glad it was you who came down to get me. I wanted a moment alone with you, to thank you.” “For what?” The elevator doors slid open on the top floor, but Len’s feet refused to move. Henry seemed to notice his discomfort and let go of his shoulder. “Barry’s always been a kind boy, sometimes too kind. I know today—the original plan and the new one—was all his idea. You didn’t have to go along with it [...] but you did. So, thank you.” For one extended moment, Len couldn’t speak. [...] Len had agreed and been thanked by Barry repeatedly in several different ways already, but he hadn’t expected understanding or gratitude from anyone else. He got his mouth—and his feet—to work again right as the elevator doors started to close. He stopped them with his palm, gesturing for the older man to step out ahead of him. “Henry… Did Scarlet ever tell you my four rules?” Barry’s dad smiled and quirked his brow curiously. “No, he didn’t.” “Make the plan, execute the plan.” Len stepped out after him. “Expect the plan to go off the rails,” he opened the door to the apartment proper, “throw away the plan.” Henry laughed with delight as they stepped inside, again clapping a hand on his shoulder. “With rules like that, you two will be just fine.”

Q1: IF YOU COULD WRITE YOUR CHARACTER YOUR WAY IN THEIR OWN MOVIE, WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED, WHAT STYLE WOULD IT BE FILMED IN, AND WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

•So, I'm already making a comic that I want to make as an animation for the story of FFXIV with my character and her friends. This character was specifically built for FFXIV, but it has a twist. Kinda like a Sword Art Online ordeal, but instead of Millions of people playing are stuck in the world, it's just like 100, but they aren't stuck, in fact they are just chosen to go between their world and Eorzea. If they die, they don't actually die, but respawn, even in their own world, but they feel how they die and the only way for them to die in any shape or form is by natural cause like old age or sickness. This would be a 2D animation in the anime style and be a multi episode series with multiple seasons. I even though about branching out to go certain routes so that Lyllyan can end up with all my favorite characters. I would call it Final Fantasy XIV: A World Reborn.

•With it being a Final Fantasy story, it would have Final Fantasy Music.

Q3: WHY DID YOU START WRITING THIS CHARACTER?

•Lyllyan Weiss was made to represent me and she still does, but also inspires me to be more like my courageous heroic self. Because of this, I have been able to do things like crossing a bridge that's in bad shape to get to the other side without the fear of falling, just to get back to my mom who went to the other side on a trip we had.

Q4: WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO THIS CHARACTER?

•She is literally me.

Q5: DESCRIBE THE BIGGEST THING YOU DISLIKE ABOUT YOUR MUSE.

•Just like me, she is stubborn and hard working, but there are times she pushes herself way too much. She hesitates to ask for help, not because she doesn't trust the people around her, but more of trying to not burden them. Others wish she would open up to them and also rest when she can. Raha has to literally force her to rest, and she nearly gets herself killed against the first battle with Rahjit because she kept getting back up to fight even when the others beg her to stop.

Q6: WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN COMMON WITH YOUR MUSE?

•Almost everything. Major thing is that she doesn't look like me, but also I know when to quit.

• I feel like if Lyllyan and I were to meet in person, we'd get along just fine. We would play video games all day long if we could.

•OH BOI HERE WE GOOO

- Leveilleur Twins: Alphinaud and Alisaie are very close to Lyllyan. Alphinaud used to pull Lyllyan out of class to have her hurry up and go through the story, now its chill and play ace attorney. Alphinaud, depending on what route is taken, is definitely in love with Lyllyan and is constantly teased about it by everyone. Alisaie is like a sister to Lyllyan. They have had many nights where the pulled 24 hours playing Sims. Alisaie is who Lyllyan tries to protect the most between the two. She's also the reason why Lyllyan is now Bi. Lyllyan absolutely adores her and if the route is taken, they end up being the cutest couple.

-Leon D'hart: An Alt character that I made that depending on the story and route, he is also Lyllyan's Lover. He is a character made by Square Enix to be the Warrior of Light replacement if Lyllyan did not succeed in preventing herself becoming a light warden. His story with her is a bunch of trial and tribulations, but in the end they do end up married.

-G'raha Tia/Crystal Exarch: The main story Lyllyan's Lover. Great friend to start out and tears were shed when he sealed himself into the tower. He really kept Lyllyan guessing when he was Exarch. When Emet-Selch kidnapped him, Lyllyan was hellbent on getting him back. Now she visits him at the first everyday bring stuff from Eorzea for him, and even occasionally stuff from her world. He is her world as she is to him.

-The Scions: Thancred and Lyllyan are like Big brother, Little sister. He protects her, and scolds her as such. They may act like they hate each other, but the moment either gets hurt, the other is at their sides. Though rumor has it that Thancred had feelings for Lyllyan. Y'shtola is close to Lyllyan, but is usually not around often. Shtola usually is often around to keep an eye on Lyllyan's aether since her amount is quite high compared to the others and her fellow Warriors of Light. Urianger is someone who used to hardly talk to Lyllyan, but started opening up more after the years. He had watched her grow from 15 moons to now 21 as the others, but they seem to be more special to him. Lyllyan swore to protect him if anything ever happened especially after he asked her her thoughts on his new attire. Tataru is a precious angel and if anyone was to hurt her, Lyllyan would kill everyone and then herself. Ryne, even though she is not a scion, she is a scion. Ryne worries about Lyllyan, but is often in awe of her. Lyllyan and Thancred adopted her, and she's ended up calling Lyllyan mom on many occasions.

-Ser Aymeric: Depending on the route, he would be Lyllyan's Lover and he tries to protect her when he can, be it politics or in war. He has a dream to journey with her, and though he can't do so with Lylyan Weiss the Au Ra, there is nothing saying he can't make a character and become a Warrior of Light himself and travel with Sakura Yue(Lyllyan's Alt).

-Zenos Yae Galvus: So this guy commits Seppuku and then shows up at Lyllyan's job as her new Bartender. They end up becoming friends through the job, and the fact that Zenos is bored out of his mind that he can't go kill people,but finding out later that he is back makes Square Enix themselves worried about this guy.

-Estinien: Lyllyan had adopted him as her Edgy Son. He hates it. He reminds her that he is older than him, and she retorts about beating him as a Lalafel. He usually starts brooding after that on a high building that usually takes Alphinaud and Ser Aymeric to get him down.

•I'm only stopping this cause there are so many more characters!!!

Q9:WHAT GIVES YOU INSPIRATION TO WRITE YOUR MUSE?

•Music and Playing Final Fantasy. Mainly XIV, but others do count too, but also reading all the other fanfiction and comics about final fantasy XIV.

Q10: HOW LONG DID THIS TAKE YOU TO COMPLETE?

About...4 hours? Maybe more? My hands definitely hurt from all the typing! XD

I'm kinda tired of people talking about how the pogues parents don't care about them. We have Kiaras parents, who simply show it in a different way than what could be the conventional depiction of caring -- trying to preserve her future by inflicting their choices on her. It's not always warm and gentle but it does not mean they don't care and it doesn't mean it's inherently wrong. Obviously they've moved past the point of communicating in a way where anything less than what they're doing would convince Kiara to change in her preferences and choices, etc. Like it's been said, she's clearly not being ignored nor neglected, even if the parenting method doesn't scream "nurturing".

Then we have the Heywards, who care so much for Pope it actually hurts. There's canon evidence of the way that Popes actions have affected his mother and father, multiple times where they're just sitting at home sick not knowing where he is. And they're also so concerned with trying to get him on the right path for his future, knowing families and kids like him need to try harder than most, as unfair as it is. We got it in s1 and s2 so to call him ignored and neglected would be a harshly skewed perspective.

Then John B's dad. Sigh. I think peoples perception of him differ a lot considering the source material so I'll just say this, I adore the Routledges relationship (it's perhaps one of my favorite dynamics on the show atm) and am beyond excited to see what the writers do with the characters next season. I didn't want him dead and I don't see him as neglectful as some people do but regardless, here's an unbiased take.

We don't have that much to go off of visually to judge their relationship on but that's literally where the plot suffices. John B's sole motivator throughout s1 was his dad, like to a consuming extent, to the point where he was being as careless and invested as ever. After his dad went missing he was a shit friend, he turned into a bad student and his life quite literally spiraled. Do I think Big John was the most hands-on parent in the world? No. But that doesn't mean neglectful or ignoring either. John B has been on his own for a while, showing us he's obviously resourceful and not completely dependent. And some kids come by that naturally, especially with him being an only child, but I think it's also safe to say Big John had a part in that sense of independence as well, and it's not bad to give your kid some independence. It's evidence he wasn't neglecting and ignoring JB prior to his disappearance, even if he wasn't the most involved. We even have a line that I refuse to forget even if it was a throwaway line where JB describes a little bit of what he's going through, saying the pogues didn't know what it was like to have the person closest to them vanish. As in, his father being the closest person to him. Even if you don't take it literally it's still a good indicator on their relationship prior to his disappearance.

And yeah, the only pogue who's objectively ignored and neglected is JJ. At this point the line in JB's narration loses its humor because it's a very real and serious issue that is evident in JJ's life, likely both as a kid and a teen. Neither of his parents were equipt or mature enough for a child (I see them having JJ at a young age) and that's something that's going to stick with him for a long time.

So obviously they're still pogues, if anything they're ignored and neglected by the authority around the island, countless times. I mean I understand the discrepancy between the attention "rich" kids get versus "poor" kids but come onnn, the fact that JB and JJ are not in foster care is beyond me agsjdkf. And there's also the fact that the show is told through the lens of teenagers, so pretty much any form of attention they get is going to be exaggerated. I'm hoping for more parent involvement on screen next season because the Heywards are just so precious and the Carreras need some work. And in case it wasn't obvious, I'm ecstatic about Big John reuniting with JB, the potential that comes with their dynamic is endless and I will melt if even a fraction of my Routledge headcannons come to life.

“ignored and neglected” is meant to be a pogue thing, right? and it kind of is, except… it actually isn’t. kiara’s got a family that’s always worried about her, trying to “get her on the right path”, and they don’t like that she’s hanging out with the pogues because it’s not what they see as a viable future for her. they’re involved in her life to the point of trying to dictate who she should and shouldn’t be friends with. that’s the clear opposite of being ignored and neglected. 

then there’s pope, who has a family who’s time and time again shown to care about his whereabouts and wellbeing, about his career and future. they’re just lenient with letting pope hang out with his friends, and even then his dad’s shown to try to get him to prioritise his academic success over lying on a boat and getting drunk. that’s not being ignored and neglected either. 

john b’s in a situation where his dad’s literally been out of his life for nearly a year. if anything, though, it’s hinted that big john was a caring that before he went missing. john b isn’t really ignored and neglected since his dad is literally unable to do care for him… unless you count his absent uncle, which i guess you could. 

and there’s jj. the only one who’s actually ignored an neglected. his dad’s an abusive drunk and an addict, constantly in an out of prison, and only uses his son to his advantage. he’s a prick, and he’s an exceptional piece of shit when it comes to jj. he doesn’t give a damn about him unless he needs him, and that’s it. jj is the only pogue who can really call himself a pogue, if being “ignored and neglected” is the criteria. the others are just being teenagers and living in a world that doesn’t exist in reality.
