#thank you for making this i am now off to watch this immediately this seems incredibly CUTE #dcmk#meitantei conan#shinichi kudo#detective boys #update: i have watched it it's SUCH a delightfully creepy ep and also So sweet im#feeling extremely polarised now#dcmk#meitantei conan#shinichi kudo#1089#but damn they should make more eps like these exploring how he feels about the mundane via @potahun
Oh, gosh! I feel like I should more properly warn people that this episode seems to be considered one of the worst Detective Conan episodes of all time 😅
But it really made me think! I instantly found myself attached to the central conflict—this idea that you should be used to an unfavorable situation by now, but all of a sudden, something so little (candy, in Conan's case) bothers you. It felt so raw and real to me.
The episode is very, very strange. I can't say I know exactly what its intended message is, but in the video, I hoped to bring across a message of self-love. @/hexfloog opened me up to the interpretation that Conan's line about a kid's lunch always being "just" a kid's lunch also applies to himself, and that hit me hard. It was a huge inspiration for my clip choices; the line plays over a sequence that tells the story of the episode but also emphasizes Shinichi's self-loathing. No matter how smart Conan is, he's still physically a small child. An adult can pick him up and drag him away like nothing. He's special, but he's "just" a kid.
And yet, being a kid isn't being lesser. At the end of the video, I used more dramatic audio ducking than usual, letting the music volume stay lowered until the very last moment, because I wanted to highlight that those lyrics aren't true. He's not useless as Conan; while we could argue about how good of an influence he really is on the Detective Boys, they enjoy his company and learn a lot from him. A kid's lunch isn't lesser than an omurice lunch, and Conan isn't lesser than Shinichi.
Or maybe I got something out of it that I wasn't meant to! I dunno! But it clearly made me feel things, so I give it credit for that!
No matter how special it is, a kid's lunch is still just a kid's lunch.
I dunno, I liked "The Genius Restaurant" (Episode 1,089).
Happy (belated) birthday, Jimjam.

#replies#ramblings#ahh please ignore if you're not interested in analysis on this ep but oh gosh i just have so many thoughts!#i'm really flattered that this inspired people to watch the ep too 🥺 it's so fun to see the reactions! thank you for reblogging *twice* 🥺#other thoughts about this ep are that conan *does* sound arrogant#he's not simply stating a preference--he's acting like these things are beneath him#but i read that as self-hatred more than arrogance really? i mean he *was* arrogant. that's why he's conan#and he hates being conan. he thinks being conan is being so much worse than he was as shinichi#and that self-hatred ends up sounding arrogant! and hurts others! and that just really gets to me because i think it's so real...#(another thing i tried to do with the video: have these happy memories that could only exist with shinichi as conan gradually decay)#(first most of the color disappears leaving only red (the color of the candy) and then the quality disintegrates too)#(because all of a sudden he's so sick of this! he wants the antidote!)#(he wants a pill in his hands and not a piece of candy that reminds him of everything he hates about himself)#i dunno where i'm going with this but even if the ep is bonkers i liked it haha. i think it had something to say#thank you again for the reblogs!!#detective conan#video#eye strain#long post
