Actually, thinking about that…remember that one ask with the scenario where the turtles learn of Usagi’s prior crush on Tomoe and Leo is completely crushed because surprise incompatible orientation (or so everyone thinks)?
Well…I had a mental image where Leo is still pretty despondent over that, and Splinter (who has likely dealt with this sort of thing before) sits with him and offers—genuinely good—reassurance and advice. ;-; and my heeeeeart (he might not be their dad in this universe but he still cares for the turtles)
Aeough you're so right.....

You were staring at the crowded dance floor.
Beautiful ladies were being spun around by their partners, gorgeous gowns twirling and swooshing with their every elegant move. Everything was perfect about them; from their smile which lit up the Great hall more than the sparkling white Christmas trees, to the way their wrist gracefully twisted around their lover's neck, eyes piercing into theirs. The music was playing, slow and melancholic, exactly as it had been playing for the last few hours, luring lovers and encouraging them to bare their souls in front of each other.
And so they danced, connected by fearful desire, united by hope and bonded by love.
It was a kind of magic no one could truly understand, mysterious and private as though you weren't meant to witness it that night. So when among the sea of couples lips met in a silent oath, your heart began to ache, pleading you to leave.
It should have been you. It should have been you the receiver of those loving glances, of those kisses which made your head dizzy and caused your knees to buckle, but it would've been no problem as you would've had the arms of your lover to keep you secure. Then, as you'd dare to look up through your lashes, gorgeous eyes would be already on you, their obscure flame consoling you and pulling you in. And you'd simply fall, letting the warm, velvety darkness envelope you.
You flinched from the slight chill, rethinking your choice of a sleeveless dress. The enthusiasm with which you had picked it months ago now seemed utterly ridiculous and foolish as you were sitting a good distance away from where you believed you'd have been dancing your heart out. But, as you took one last look at your surroundings, only to spot your lovestruck friends indulging in the presence of their partners, the comfort of your pajamas seemed far more tempting than the unreasonably expensive piece of fabric which didn't even matter to you anymore.
It was pitifully funny how things could change in the blink of an eye, in a single breath; how fast you had gone from blooming with excitement to wondering how you were foolish enough to contribute to your own heartbreak.

"How come I'm just finding out about this?" Fred exclaimed, chasing after you down the stairs of the Astronomy tower. "I bet I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for those Ravenclaws chatting back in class."
"You were gonna know eventually, what's the deal?"
"My point is, why didn't you tell me and I had to hear from someone else?"
A group Hufflepuffs gave you questioning looks as you practically ran past them, nearly tripping over your own feet in the process, "You're making a fuss about nothing, stop acting entitled to every piece of information in my life!"
"McLaggen? That git?" Fred yelled in frustration and disbelief; he didn't at all acknowledge the small crowd which had gathered to observe the scene, nor did he care in the first place. He stopped in his tracks, gripping the wooden railing tight, knuckles turning white and jaw tense. "You cannot be serious."
Shocked faces now turned to you, and you desperately wished you could use reducio on yourself. Instead, opposite to what your consciousness was screaming at you, you dug your feet into the floor and shot Fred a stern look over your shoulder, "We're not discussing this right now. Besides, what's in it for you anyway? You're going with Angelina."
Had you kept walking, you would have missed the way Fred's chest was heaving with shallow, rapid breaths, and his face was more maroon than you had ever seen. And you? You couldn't quite breathe yourself.
A week ago your untamed happiness brightened every room and hallway; classes seemed to fly by, exams were over and the Yule ball was right around the corner. Your heart was ringing with joy as you were so looking forward to forgetting your troubles for just one night.
In the midst of shining Christmas decorations and beautiful dresses a dreamy, yet pretty bold idea had begun to form in your head, an idea which Ginny and Hermione encouraged with their support and affirmations. Deep down you had started to believe Fred Weasley took an interest in you, harboured feelings for you even, and your ever-present goofy banter which contained far more flirting than what would be acceptable between two best friends, only fed your imagination and raised your hopes up.
You were aware you were the only one on the receiving end of Fred's teasing jokes, cheesy pickup lines and lingering stares which had you staying up an extra hour in your bed at night. Even his siblings shared the same opinion - there was no way on Godric's sword that a person who clearly wanted to be around you as often as possible and got his hands on you every chance he could, wouldn't be at least a little bit interested in you.
That's why you nearly broke down when exactly a week ago in the hallway Ron casually mentioned his older brother had just asked out Angelina.
The ground was pulled beneath your feet, vanishing along with your oblivious hopes. The news stung sharply, leaving a sour taste in your mouth; never had you believed you’d spend the few days before the ball stitching up your heart, and you were willing to do just about anything to forget about your humiliation. So when McLaggen invited you with an obnoxiously flirty note in Charms class, you didn’t hesitate much.
You could feel a wave of tears burning your eyes as you looked up to where Fred was standing. His face and ears were still as red as they could get, and his chest was vibrating with every shaky breath he took. Fury had disappeared from his eyes long ago, replaced with concern, regret and hurt which you couldn't quite place.
He climbed down the few remaining stairs.
"He's obnoxious! And beyond what's good for you!" Fred stated, though his voice now lacked power and slightly trembled, loud enough just for you to hear. "You're setting yourself up for a pretty bad night."
You swallowed down the dry lump in your throat and finally turned around to fully face him, looking him up and down.
"Seems like I have a terrible taste in men then."
Tumblr media
A second glass of firewhiskey did nothing to burn down the growing turmoil in your stomach. You tapped the edge of the empty glass with your fingers and smiled at your friends who were visibly exhausted from dancing to upbeat songs for quite awhile now, but enjoying their time far too much to take a break. You admired their spirit - just because you weren't feeling your best, it didn't mean your friends didn't have the right to have fun.
However, the inevitable sense of regret lingered in your bones, and you found it hard to not focus on how the ball had gone wrong for you, in more ways than you had originally thought.
Even without Fred as your date, there was still a chance you'd have a good time. McLaggen could undoubtedly make it awkward to be around, and with the fact that your heart had recently been sliced open, you weren't sure how much of his ridiculous antics you could take. But at least he was trying; if you put aside his overbearing ego, you could see genuine effort into creating something romantic for both of you. It was going to be okay. Not necessarily what you desired, but somehow okay.
And that last bit of hope vanished the second you caught your former date snogging your crush's date in an empty classroom merely an hour ago.
You didn't know whether to cry or laugh at the universe's bitter joke, but the tears on your face as you ran down the hallway in your beautiful dress were eloquent.
A bitter, bitter joke.
You couldn't take it anymore. The charming smiles, sultry glances and stolen kisses you had been observing for the past hour were too much. And when another slow song made an appearance, you rose to your feet and headed towards the tall doors of the exit. Perhaps sleep would be a decent ending to your horrendous night.
You had barely made it out of the Great hall when loud footsteps echoed on your right.
"Bloody hell, I've been looking for you!" Fred said through heavy breaths, having run all the way to you as it seemed. His ginger hair had escaped its slicked look long ago, now too messy to fix despite his numerous attempts to smooth it back. His suit was no better, slightly wrinkled and shirt open to the third button.
"Why have you?" you asked and folded your arms, feeling a bit chilly in the hallway.
"McLaggen. About him," Fred sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I'm sorry for having to say it, but I just saw him-"
"I know."
Fred frowned in confusion.
"You do?"
It was your turn to let out an exasperated sigh as you looked down at your feet, "Yes. A while ago."
Fred's features softened.
"I'm sorry."
You barely found it in you to respond with a weak smile, "It's alright. I guess I was right. I do have a terrible taste in men." Then you gave Fred a sympathetic look, "I'm sorry for Angelina too, it's horrible she did this to you."
Your friend allowed the ghost of a smirk to appear on his lips and he shoved hands into his pockets, "I'm not really affected by it in all honesty," he shrugged. "I'm rather angry about the fact that the prat thought he could pull off something like this and get away with it."
Fred's heart ached at the sight of your slumped figure and glossy eyes; he hated himself for having contributed to the failure of the event you were expecting with so much hope. He tilted his head to the side, attempting to meet your gaze.
"I'd gladly prank the crap outta the git until he doesn't even dare to show up to classes… But for now is there a way for me to make your night any less terrible, love?"
You couldn't help but giggle at the thought of McLaggen skipping classes out of sheer fear of Fred. But then your thoughts wandered to the way Angelina was practically straddling his lap, and you wondered if Fred had been doing the same all this time unbeknownst to you; if right after a flirty joke sent your way he'd go to an empty classroom and kiss Angelina with the passion you had just witnessed.
The image of Angelina's lips on Fred's caused you to become nauseous and you attempted to swallow down that lump again.
"No," you replied. "But please, tell me one thing. What was that entire tantrum for?"
Fred didn't really seem taken aback by your question, realizing you'd eventually bring it up. He furrowed a brow, carefully thinking of an answer, and wettened his lips.
“Perhaps it would be inappropriate of me to say it- selfish even, but the mere thought of you being in the embrace of someone, especially with that someone being a foul git, caused me to get unreasonably angry.” Guilt was seeping into his every word and he bitterly chuckled to himself. “Ironic, isn’t it? Attempting to spare you heartbreak by being the reason for it.”
He gently took your hand and looked into your eyes, remorse swimming in his own, "I had no right to treat you the way I did. I'm terribly sorry for being controlling and you absolutely do not have to forgive me. Just know that I truly regret my actions; I never intended to hurt you."
His words were a feather-light caress to your wounded heart and you shuddered. You couldn't stay mad at him. Reciprocated feelings or not, he was still your best friend and you wouldn't let that go.
"Apology accepted," you gave his hand a light squeeze and Fred beamed, the entire hallway lighting up with him. Dread released your chest of its merciless grasp and you could finally breathe. However, one question never ceased to haunt you. "But I just need to know…” you began, absentmindedly playing with his fingers, “...why were you so upset to begin with?"
Fred's shoulders immediately stiffened and he averted his gaze from you in an attempt to come up with a reasonable reply. His jaw was clenched, and his adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. "I didn't want you to go with him." He stated simply. "Not when you could've easily gone with me instead."
You froze.
"What do you mean?” you asked timidly, shifting your weight from foot to foot. “What about Angelina?"
Fred only shook his head, fighting back a grin.
"Darling, Angelina was never the catch."
The air was knocked out of your lungs.
You could only stare at Fred wide-eyed, and though his expression was unreadable, maroon had begun to crawl its way up to his ears and cheeks again.
"I'm sorry for putting you through all this," Fred spoke softly as he pressed a kiss to your knuckles, a kiss that awakened the butterflies within you. "I was really too much of a wuss to confess to you and settled for this instead."
"I guess that makes us two," you smiled sincerely, perhaps for the first time that night. Fred returned your smile with a grin, and asked.
"How can I make up to you for this oh-so-awful mess?"
"Dance with me," you said without skipping a beat. "That's what you owe me at least. Let's finally do what we both wanted."
Fred's expression became serious as he intertwined his fingers with yours, and led you into the direction of the Great hall, from which music could still faintly be heard.
"With the greatest of pleasure, my love."
Most people had already gone to bed, leaving just a few couples and you to drench in enchanted serenity. Fred's arms around you felt like home as you both swayed to the soft rhythm of the song, one of the many to follow, but his racing heartbeat under your palm caused your own pulse to speed up as well.
You looked up at your lover through your lashes, gorgeous eyes already on you, their obscure flame consoling you and pulling you in. There was an odd, enigmatic allure that Fred possessed, and even after years of knowing this man, it only caused you to fall further into the velvety hell you didn't wish to escape from.
And when his lips collided with yours, they tasted sweeter than the forbidden fruit.

—————————————————————-
You smiled as you ran off stage, the fans were still screaming and kept screaming until the next band took the stage. The air was electric, so many people, all here to enjoy the great communicator that is music. You closed your eyes to take it all in, to just listen and feel. You couldn't believe you were here, playing in front of this many people. This year you shared the stage with another up and coming band by the name of Greta Van Fleet. You hadn't heard of them before recently and they were actually really good. They had so much soul and passion in their music, it was true, raw talent.
You watched from the side stage as they played their eclectic set. The singer, Josh, really got the crowd going. He had so much energy and was really fun to watch. His voice was incredible, unbelievable even. He had this raspy, elegant twang in his voice, that truly matched perfectly with the music his band was producing. The drummer, Danny (if you remembered correctly), had such a powerful and classic Drumming style. It was full of life and emotion , just like you, he put his all into his performance. He was focused and truly the heart of the music. There was a guitarist and a Bassist, unlike your band which only consisted of you and your best friend. You, the drummer and your friend the singer and guitarist. The bassist, Sam,  had a very cool way about him, his body moved with the music in a way that seemed beyond his control. The guitarist, Jake , was stunning, his hands danced along his guitar so expertly, you could tell he truly enjoyed his time with his instrument.
When they finished their set, the crowd erupted in a wave of applause and cheers, like bright yellow and orange fireworks booming through the air, you watched with your minds eye, in awe as they exploded and cracked in the sky. The Boys bowed and waved before walking off stage panting and sweating.
“Nice job!, excellent show” you comment smiling. Danny returned the smile with a grateful nod.
“Aw thank you, I'm sorry I don't think we had a chance to meet before the show, I’m Dan-” he began.
“You're Danny, Sam , Jake , and Josh” you said, pointing to each of them and smiling. They all returned the smile, there was positive energy just radiating from them, you could feel it like a blanket of warmth resting over you.
“My name is (y/n), it's so nice to meet you guys!” you chime happily. The lead singer, Josh smiles at and you think you catch a small wink as well, making your heart skip a beat. Perhaps you were seeing things. God he's handsome, his sparkling brown eyes, he had more structure in his jawline than you had in your entire life His chestnut hair was gorgeous and curly, his whole look just attracted you to no end.
Fuck.
“Hey your performance was super amazing too, your voice is absolutely incredible” Sam complimented, his voice popped all the bubbly thoughts of josh that foamed in your head. Thank goodness. “Yeah! You did an excellent job (y/n). Its one thing to be a good singer when you have three other band members to help you sound good, but you were out there all alone, just your voice and you still blew that crowd away” Danny added. You were blushing for sure now.
“Yeah your voice is crazy good, we're honored to play alongside you” Jake chimed.
“Oh wow you guys are gonna make me cry” you chuckle “thank you so much, that means a lot coming from someone with your talent” you reply. Sam waves his hand incredulously as if you were hyping them up and making them out to be better than they really were.. You weren't. They are  awe inspiring musicians.
“Water?” a stagehand offered walking over with a cooler.
“Oh thank fucking Christ” Josh rendered making a bee line for the cooler. You chuckled, and now that you thought of it your throat was extremely dry from singing as well. Jake nicely offered you the bottle he grabbed with a smile. A true gentleman.
“Thank you!” you offer as you grab the bottle from him. You practically ripped the cap off and chugged the whole bottle. It was delicious and cold and ran over your tongue and down your throat with a refreshingly cold bite.
The five of you stand there and re hydrate for a minute before Sam speaks “we should go grab a drink!” he suggests with a slight raise of his perfect eyebrows. The guys look at you in waiting.
“You wanna join us?” Josh asks, flashing a pearly white smile. You look around at them for a mere second before responding.
“Sure! Yeah that sounds fun”
“Right on, I think I saw a bar down the street we can go to” Jake claims as you all head to the doors behind the dressing rooms.
Rain began to expel from the dark clouds above you as you all headed down the road. Cold air kisses your skin causing you to shiver slightly, you only had on black leather pants and a pink floral pattern blouse that you tied up a bit to expose part of your stomach. It was late, must have been almost midnight by now, the air was heavy with moisture and you could smell the rain soaked cement under your feet.
“Are you cold?” Josh questions as he walks beside you, he startled you a bit. You smiled and looked at your arms, they were dotted with goosebumps.
“Yeah kinda” you reply sheepishly. Josh instantly takes off the jean jacket he was wearing and handed it to you. Jake and the others were a few feet behind the two of you carrying on a conversation about the show. You reached out and accepted the jacket, Josh's gaze nonchalantly floated down your arm, his face fell when he noticed the deep scars that peppered across your skin near your wrists. You notice him looking at them before he brings his gaze back up to meet yours. Your cheeks burned with embarrassment and you quickly put the jacket on.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn't mean to stare” he says softly, looking down at the wet street. You knew by the tone in his voice he wasn't judging you. His look was filled with concern, not judgement.
“It's alright, people stare all the time” you responded
“It doesn't bother me so much anymore, i'm used to it.” you added. Josh nods, a sad look still lingers on his gentle face. His jacket was warm, his scent filled your nose, it was comfortable and soothing, much like the rain that fell from the sky. You looked at him out of the corner of your eye, you could tell he was thinking about something, he had that  thousand yard stare stuck in his eyes. You hadn't known Josh for long but it's not hard to tell when someone is enthralled in thought.
“How long have you been singing?” you ask, trying to pull him from whatever trance he was in.
“A long time, most of my life really” he answers with a smile. Talking about his music clearly made him happy. He in turn asked you the same question. You laugh before responding.
“Honestly I've only been singing for a few years….drumming is my real talent and I've been doing that for most of my life, coming up on 18 years” you explain. Josh’s expression shifted from a smile to a look of surprise.
“Wow that’s awesome , are you self taught?” he asks again. You nodded “my dad taught me a few things here and there more when I first started out but, mostly I've taught myself” you said. Josh chuckled with a nod.
“That is really cool” he replied, you could tell by the tone and instance of his voice that he was genuinely impressed.
“Oo careful on the compliments you've never heard me play before, just because I've been playing for a long time doesn't mean i’m any good” you joke, Josh laughs, shakes his head and nudges your shoulder.
“Well have to get you behind Danny's kit some time” he implores. Hearing him say that made you happy, it meant he wanted to see you again.
“You guys did really good tonight, I cant believe I've never heard of you guys before really. It wasn't until my manager told me who I'd be playing with at the festival that I started looking into you guys.” you admit.
“Thanks you did an excellent job too, i really loved that first song you sang, ‘salt is my sugar’ I really resonated with that one, truly felt it, there's a lot of emotion in your lyrics.
“This is it,” Sam announces opening the front door and holding it for everyone to walk in. the smell of smoke and dark liquor hang heavy in the air. An ACDC song played over the speakers. It wasn't very busy, there was an older man sitting at the bar, a couple younger people playing pool and a few others scattered in booths. It was a total dive bar, a hole in the wall, which was just your style. You all sat at the bar on squeaky worn out bar stools.
“What can I get you?” the bartender asked, perching himself up with his arms rested on the bar as a washrag sat, oh so typically, on his shoulder as he awaited your response. Jake looked at Josh with a raised brow giving him that ‘get a load of this guy’ look.
“I'll have a beer,” Danny ordered.
“Me as well please” Jake adds.
“Southern comfort and seven up for me please” you order next.
“Hmm I'll have a long island iced tea” Sam says. You look at him holding back a chuckle Huh didn't take him for a long island iced tea kinda guy but to each their own. The bartender looked to josh.
“Salty dog please” he requests.
“Put your IDs on the counter” the bartender instructs as he turns around to collect everyone's drinks. The five of you did as you were told and laid out your IDs.
“So where are you guys headed now that the festival is over?” you asked playing with a stained, old coaster that sat in front of you.
“We’re going back to Michigan for some well deserved time off” Josh responds.
“For a little while anyways” he adds with a smile.
“Hey I live in silver city!” you reply happily , silver city was a small town in Michigan closer to the upper peninsula.
“Small world” you added. What are the chances the two of you lived within a few hours of each other and never met until the both of you played a festival in Los Angeles.
You turn your attention to the combination of alcoholic drinks that the bartender set in front of you. Everyone reached for theirs offering quick cheers before taking a drink. The carbonation of the seven up burned against your throat before the alcohol sent the warming sensation through your chest and stomach.
“Ah yum” you said, wincing from the sharpness of the alcohol. Jake laughed as he watched you.
“Not very convincing,” Sam says smiling. You laugh and take another drink. You watch Josh stir his drink lightly with the small straw it came with, he notices you looking.
“Ever had a salty dog before?” he asks, hoping you say no.
You simply shake your head in reply. He slides his drink closer to you.
“We can share if you want, it's really good?” he offers. You look at the pink drink in front of you.
“What's in it?” you ask.
“It's just gin and grapefruit juice with a little salt around the rim,” he says.
“Oh god that sounds horrible” you laugh.
“It's actually not that bad” Danny pipes up with a shrug.
“He made me try it a few weeks ago,” he adds.
“Alright I'll take your word for it” you smile at Danny. You look back down at the drink.
“I promise I didn't spike it” Josh chimes.  You laugh loudly, why would he even say that?
“That's exactly what someone who spiked my drink would say”
“But I guess I trust you guys” you add before taking a healthy sip of the beverage.
“Hmm that's not bad!” conclude, it was much sweeter than you thought it would be, it kind of reminded you of orange juice and vodka. Josh nods with an I told you so sort of look on his face.
“Here, try mine,” Sam says next, handing you his glass.
“Alright you try mine too” you reply with a smile. Sam's slender fingers brush against yours as he grabs the drink from you , your eyes look to his and he winks.
Oh god, I can't be attracted to two of them. Honestly, who were you kidding? You were insanely attracted to all of them, how were they ALL so cute and gorgeous? Not fair to the rest of man-kind.
“Wow this one is super good!” you remark going in for another drink of the long island iced tea.
“Yeah can you believe there's like 8 different alcohols in there? No tea at all” he laughs, you laughed with him. His laugh was sweet and light, like orange sparkling shards of glass dancing through the air. The five of you began talking about life and learning a lot about each other, ordering more drinks along the way. You could tell the mix of drinks was beginning to take effect on you, you felt warm and relaxed. You were standing next to Danny now, he towered over you, this man was truly a beast.the smell of his cologne wrapped around you. It was oaky and mossy with a hint of citrus, you couldn't help but feel an electrifying pull of attraction to him.
For fucks sake, you curse yourself.
A few games of pool (which, it turns out Jake is like a God at pool) later you all found yourselves back at the bar carrying on more conversation, albeit more slurred now. It was much easier to open up to people when alcohol was involved. You rolled the sleeves of josh's jacked up, exposing your arms as the alcohol was making you extremely warm.
“What happened to you?” the bartender asks loudly. You and the guys all look at him with hints of confusion.
“I got the worst concoction of my parents DNA possible” you joke , the boys laugh. Jake nudges your shoulder.
“Shut up you're gorgeous” he says softly. You give him a quick smile.
“No. Your arm. What happened to your arm.” the bartender says again, nodding to your scars. You hated when people asked that question, like they didn't know why you had those scars on your wrists. Very few things leave scars like that on skin. You looked around at the guys, josh looked pissed and the others looked saddened as this was the first time they had seen your scars, and they knew damn well what it was from, they weren’t as stupid as this bartender. The air of the bar had shifted, the mood went from fun loving to hostile very quickly. Fuck this guy.
“I got in a fight with a weed wacker” you retort sarcastically. The man rolls his eyes.
“What happened? Did your little boyfriend break up with you? Flunk a class? Your puppy ran away?” he was mocking you. You said nothing in return.
“You're just another one of those emotionally confused little girls, no reason to hate her life.” he continues. For some reason he was trying to upset you , and you had no idea why, you'd been nothing but pleasant to the man since the moment you entered the bar.
“First of all i'm not a girl, I'm a woman. Who pissed in your Wheaties this morning man? You're mad because you got all D’s in high school and now you're stuck serving losers like us in this shit hole, pretentious, sorry excuse of a bar? Go fuck yourself. I don’t hate my life.” you answer , anger pooling in your throat.
“Hey man. Lay off.” Danny says with a look of warning.
“Of course you don't hate your life” the man says ignoring Danny completely.
“You just do it for attention, think if you slice yourself up maybe someone will feel bad for you huh? I've seen your kind before girl.” he speaks again. OK now this idiot was pissing you off. You never did it for attention, attention was the last thing you wanted, especially when it came to your scars, you wished you could erase them.
“Look, I've got three things to say to you,” you reply with an irritated sigh. You stood up from your stool and stepped closer to the man.
“One” you say, holding up your pointer finger giving the illusion that you were going to list reasons of argument to him. Instead you ball your hand into a fist and punch the guy right in his fucking jaw with all your drunken might. To your surprise (and no doubt everyone else's) the bartender fell to the floor, you knocked him out.. Everyone was wide eyed and silent
“Lets get outta here” Josh says, breaking the glistening silence in the bar, noticing everyone looking at the five of you. Jake grabbed a bottle of Jack before all of you ran out of the door. None of you could suppress your laughs as you took off down the street. Out of breath you all keeled over in a field of grass a few feet from the tour buses in a fit of laughter. You sat down on the wet grass and looked up at the clouds. Danny sat on your left and Sammy was on your right, Josh and Jake sat in front of you and you all formed a small little circle.
“That felt good” you say softly, referring to punching that shit head of a bartender. Sam laughed.
“Yeah that was awesome, I can't believe you knocked him out” Jake chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief. The air went silent again as you all sat with your own thoughts. Your face slowly lost emotion as thoughts of what the man said swirled around your mind. You tried not to let what people said to you about your scars get to you too much but it was hard sometimes. Danny noticed your expression and you felt his hand draw soft circles on your back.
“That guy was an idiot. He was just being an asshole” Josh said softly, you nodded, knowing he was right. Maybe it was the alcohol or maybe you were just really that sad but a tear fell down your face and your voice cracked as you spoke.
“I just feel so alone sometimes” you wiped the tears away as quickly as they fell. You could feel all of them watching you with sympathetic eyes.
“Everyone's got their vice (y/n)” Danny said quietly, his hand still grazing your back.
Josh rolls his shirt sleeve up and reveals dozens of little horizontal scars covering his shoulder. He grabs your hand and you look up at him to meet his gaze. He stroked your hand with his thumb and gave you a comforting, gentle look.
“You're not alone”

“I’m going to love you. You don’t have to love me back. But I’m going to love you with my whole heart. And even if you break my heart, I will always wish the best for you. I’ll love you for me, not for you. Because love is a flower growing in my heart, and if my heart chooses to grow a blue flower for you, I will trust my heart. So I love you. Even if you don’t love me back.” (blueemeloncholia)
If there was one thing that Harry had learned about Y/n in the eight months that he had known her, well that would be the fact that she was too much of a good person. Honestly, Harry could not find a flaw in his neighbor, for god sakes, the way they met was a bit of a fairy tale to him.
He met her when he moved in, and she was riding the elevator down to the garages where he had his Range Rover full of boxes to bring up to his apartment. And those blessed lift doors opened to reveal a dopey looking girl, hair a bit of a natural tousle, sipping at some sort of pink smoothie that looked absolutely delicious for the muggy LA weather in October (wasn’t that the month when the leaves started to change and sweaters started being worn?), and she greeted him with a smile and then a gasp.
“Silly idiot! Bet you don’t even have a water on you, gimme a box, we’ll drop it off at your place and then you’re coming to mine for a lemon and strawberry smoothie. ‘Promise you’ll feel like you’re at Jamba once ya taste it.” And she grabbed the box from his arms, instructed him to grab another box from his car, and they took the elevator to his flat. Granted he was a little suspicious of her, knowing that she might have been a crazy fan that wanted to go through his drawers to get to a pair of his boxers, but soon learned that she was a genuinely kind soul.
And a beautiful friendship sprouted from there.
Harry learned lots more about Y/n as the eight months went on. She loved puppies, because of course she did, she’s practically a puppy herself. Bagels and smoothies are her favorite foods, ironic only for the fact that she was all grumpy in the mornings, and having breakfast made her stomach all queasy and unpleasant. She really liked New York City, and the Glass Animals, and listening to music made her feet twitch to the beats. Her weakness was pet names, her face melted to an emotion he couldn’t explain every time he called her one (“Baby, gimme the remote,” ensued a whine and a soft look.), absolutely loved having her back rubbed. He figured out on his own that she was a fairly lonely person, real independent, and didn’t often reach out to her family for reasons unknown to him.
But she really was lonely, and Harry figures that’s the reason she’s with her prick of a boyfriend.
His name was Kade, and even before Harry had even met him, he was already turned off to him. But eventually, Harry had met him, and god, he hated him. Hated the way that Kade treated Y/n, who Harry was convinced was an actual angel on earth. But god, this boy was a right asshole to her, treated her like the dirt he walked on, and Harry absolutely hated the frown that Y/n wore because of him. All because of fucking Kade.
And one night, god, one night he could hear Y/n crying through the walls, and he was absolutely livid at the boy who he had seen exiting her apartment not even fifteen minutes before. And he wanted to go over to Y/n’s and cuddle her while she spilled all about her life and all about that asswipe, Kade, but he knew that he would end up blowing up about her boyfriend in front of her, so he had to call Niall to be able to calm himself down.
“He’s such a prick, I wanna hurt him. She’s literally sent from heaven, and he’s over here making her cry, and God knows she doesn’t deserve it! I’m so mad, I could go on a rampage. Fucking ‘ell.” He spat, kicked the side of his couch, and then doubled over with a hiss, his toe folded weird as it hit the couch and felt horrible.
“Harry, calm down. Just because you like this lady doesn't mean you’ve got to go abuse her boyfie. Let it be, mate. Slide in after the heartbreak period.” Niall advised, and Harry didn't really like the advice.
“But Ni, she’s a lonely person, I'm guessing she’s only staying with him because he made her feel special and loved. I don't think they will break up because she doesn't want to be alone. I don't think she believes that she deserves better.” Harry huffed out a breath, paused his pace and placed a hand on his hip. “She deserves so much better.” He breathed out, his exhale shaky afterwards.
“H, mate. Are you okay?” Niall questioned softly. Harry took a few more deep breaths, left the call silent for a while in order to compose himself.
“I'm fine, just want better for her.”
“You want her in a relationship with you, that's what you mean ‘better for her.’” Niall deadpanned.
“Come over for a week, hang out with me. We can just hang out and talk over our music.” Harry changed the subject, and Niall let a little laugh out.
“Next week, text me your address. See ya.” And with that, they hung up. And maybe Harry paced a little bit more as he heard her sobs continue through the walls, bit at his lips, but he promised himself not to go over to her.
“I brought smoothies, because for some weird reason you’ve been ignoring me, and I know you love my smoothies and friends don’t ignore each other for long times.” She reasoned as soon as he opened the door.
She pushed her way through the doorway, and he noticed as she passed him by, he looked at her and missed her cute little uniqueness. Loved the way that her clothes tended to be very soft, looked very soft too, and she always smelled like lemons and sugar. And yes, it might have only been April, but it was so hot outside (thank you, California.) and so she wore shorts and a worn out t-shirt, her hair put on top of her head. And a small, small inkling of a thought crossed Harry’s mind that he wanted to push to the side immediately, that maybe he was starting to fall in love with the girl next door. And it was such a cliche itch in the back of his mind, the neighbor falls in love with neighbor, and yet he couldn’t control who his heart grappled on to.
“Wasn’t ignoring you, puppy. Just had other plans.” He explained, closed the door behind him and locked it, trailed after her as she walked to his kitchen. She shoved a smoothie into his hand, and he smiled at her. “Hi.” He greeted, pulled her into a hug. “My mate Niall is here, you’re gonna meet him.” He told her softly, the two of them still pressed together.
“Mm, you smell good. Are you trying to impress someone, that why you put on cologne?” She teased, finally pulled away from him and he took a sip of the smoothie she had given him.
“Of course, did I not tell you I’m gay? ‘m trying to sway Niall.” He joked, and then felt hands lock around his waist, a chin rest on his shoulder.
“Awe, darling. Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I’d love to make Narry happen.” Niall kissed Harry’s cheek closest to him, and Harry giggled along with it. Harry widened his eyes at Y/n, a bright grin lighting up his face.
“You hear that Y/n? I think it was the cologne!” Harry spouted, and Niall pushed off of Harry, ended the little banter and went out to the left of him and wrapped Y/n in a warm, quick hug. He pulled away from Y/n and smiled at her.
“I’m guessing you’re Y/n, I’m Niall. It’s nice to finally meet you.” He greeted. Y/n smiled back, and sipped at her smoothie.
“Nice to meet you too, how much did this dolt spill about me?”
“Plenty, but nothing scarring, don’t worry.” Niall winked at her and she tried to quickly hide the blush that formed. She turned and Harry wrapped an arm around her shoulder, felt her form melt into him. “Although he did tell me about your little quirk with pet names, and how he likes to call you Puppy.” Y/n let out a whining noise as Niall revealed this to her, hid her face into Harry’s shirt.
“Spend the night here, we can have a sleepover. I’ll let you pick the movie.” Harry spoke into her hair. He looked up to see Niall looking at him with a faux pout. “Maybe Niall can join.” He added.
“Of course Niall can join, would be rude to not invite him.”
Niall watched them that night, on another couch they cuddled, and whispered to each other soft meanings. They were tangled in a mess of limbs that just seemed to fit together, and Harry kept petting at her hair, to which she seemed to enjoy quite a bit. To be honest, Niall couldn’t quite keep focus on the movie, well until the end because that was when the entire movie started to make sense and it was captivating. But before the last fifteen minutes of the film, Niall’s eyes would drift between the screen and the cuddled ones.
Because he could see the love blossoming between the two, even if they couldn’t see it themselves. Because Niall tended to be a shipper. And hell yes, he shipped them.
It was that night in Harry’s bed that they found themselves breathing in each other, the scents of each other and savoring it. He kept loving on her, gave her back rubs galore, and she kissed his chest in return. His feelings boiled about Kade once more silently, wished that the girl in his bed could live in his bed with him, instead of down the hall to the right, the apartment right next to his, where he could hear her crying some nights.
“I don’t understand how you don’t see that you deserve better than him.” He blurted, and she tensed. “Know you’re lonely, puppy, but you wouldn’t have to be, I got you.” He soothed with a finger skim over the skin of her neck.
“I don’t know how to love myself, I’m just a mess of a person who doesn’t even know how to let people ignore me properly. I shove myself into people’s lives and then don’t know how to get out.” She whispered, her head still not facing his.
“I can help you get out. And how many times do I have to say it, I wasn’t ignoring you.” He replied, and she turned her head to face him with eyes backed up with tears.
“He's so mean to me, Harry. So mean, and I hate it. Pretty sure he's a verbal abuser.” She let a drop slide from her eye, and he felt in on his clothes chest.
“Baby, what does he do?” He asked hesitantly, and Y/n looked to her fingers that traced patterns on his shirt.
“Calls me names, tells me I'm worthless and that's why my family doesn't talk to me anymore. Um, sometimes he kinda uses me.” He starts to feel more of her tears soak through the shirt underneath her head.
“Uses you how?” He questions, and has a inkling of the answer, just doesn't want it to be true. Doesn't want to know that his precious little neighbor, the one he swears is an angel on earth, is being used by her boyfriend for carnal acts.
“I guess he sexually abuses me.” She breathes, and Harry’s eyes well up. “But maybe it's not, because I don't really say anything against it. I mean, it's the only thing that really keeps him around, so I just let it happen.” She admits quickly, not wanting to frame fucking Kade as an abuser without telling all sides of the story. “I just don't want to be alone, Harry. I'm sick of being lonely. And I mean, I thought that if that’s what would make him stay, then that’s what I would do.”
She bursted out into sobs on his chest, suddenly becoming fully aware of how she was becoming a piece of a person, becoming a shell that Kade could use for pleasure. And Harry wanted to do the same as her, wanted to violently cry, but her emotions were more valuable in the moment, so he held her tight, soothed her with quiet words, and silently prayed that Kade would rot in hell one day.
It took another two months for Y/n to break up with Kade, a lot of long nights of tears in Harry’s bed while they talked over her relationship with Kade, and it was on the night of their tenth month friend-iversarry that Y/n finally spoke up to Harry with a firm voice, all hints of teariness about the subject gone.
“I broke up with him, I’m done.” She stated, and Harry ignored the way his heart jumped excitedly in his chest. Y/n, his unofficial girl, was free. “He’s rude, and I’m done.” She nodded to herself in agreement to her statement, a tickle of a smile hinting at her lips before it fell to an almost frown. Her head then fell from looking Harry confidently in the eye. “Just… just please don’t leave me.” Her tone shifted to one of vulnerability, and Harry jolted forward to where she was sat to take her in his arms.
“I told you, puppy. I got you.”
