okay, looking at the comments on WIPs that i never updated, i have something to say that i'm sure has been said before - and i'm not trying to be mean or ungrateful, i know a lot of people find commenting hard - but generic stuff like 'this is interesting, i'm looking forward to it' or 'i hope this updates soon' is NOT ENOUGH, PEOPLE.
you should treat it like its own fic: what did you like about that chapter? what about it makes you look forward to the rest of the wip? did something stand out in particular? was there a passage you enjoyed? characterization you liked? is there something SPECIFIC that you're looking forward to?
what's its own merit besides what hasn't happened yet? what do you value outside of anticipation?
because otherwise, it kinda feels like what's been posted was just a waste of space, a placeholder, something not good on its own. what kind of encouragement is simply the hope that something happens when what's happened already barely gets a mention?
i spent hours and hours on this, and all you have to say is 'MAKE MORE'?
#imagine reading a book and then just being like 'i wanna read the next one' without talking about what you liked about it#someone is going to come in and be like well at least you got any comment at all#and like yeah#but as far as encouragement goes it inspires more guilt than well. inspiration.#i know what it's like to have a wip that has ZERO comments#30 subs. 4 chapters. no comments.#it feels BAD!!!!#and maybe just a 'i look forward to the next one' would feel better but ime not by a lot#writing#fanfiction#wips#ao3#i'm not calling anyone out on twihh btw most of the comments have been very very cool#this is about the fic i deleted vs. the fic i orphaned#which is kind of a fandom vs. fandom thing but still
