A family Thanksgiving
This was supposed to be up yesterday, but it took on a mind of its own and instead of the few hundred words it was supposed to be, its nearly 3k. Happy belated Thanksgiving to anyone who celebrates! rated: t | wc: 2847 | cw: period typical homophobia, Steve's asshole parents
The offers from everyone to have him over for Thanksgiving had been great, any other year he would have loved such a choice, but for the first time in a long time, he was spending the day with family.
"But you hate your family." Dustin pointed out when Steve had told everyone about his holiday plans.
"No, I hate my parents. It's my grandma that asked me to go, and I want to see her and my cousins that I haven't seen in like five years. I'm driving myself to Chicago, so I won't be stuck in a car with my parents for hours on end." Steve explained.
"But you're working a late the day before, and I'm not going to cover you so you can drive up early" Robin replied.
"I'm planning on leaving by six on Thanksgiving morning. It's less than four hours to drive, so I'll be there before ten, well nine because of the timezone change. I took the late shift the day before so I had an excuse to drive myself, and my parents wouldn't have any reason to come by Hawkins before. And I drive home either the Friday or the Saturday, ready for our Sunday shift."
Come Thanksgiving day, Steve was somewhat regretting his decision. It had been nearly midnight before he'd gotten home, after a number of people came in just before closing insistent on needing a selection of movies ready for the next day. Then hadn't been happy when the movies they wanted weren't in stock, so they left the place a total mess, causing Steve to stay late to tidy up ready for the opener the next day. Then having to get up around five, so he could get ready and be on track to leave as planned. In an attempt to wake up, he was mostly surviving on a large cup of incredibly strong coffee. He was just counting down the minutes until he could get there.
When he walked in the door, he was immediately wrapped up in a hug from his grandma. "Stevie, it's so good to see you."
"It's great to see you too, Grandma." He returned the hug, melting into it a little. Exactly what he needed after the year it had been.
"Let me take a look at you." She stepped back slightly, giving him a once over. Her hand came up to trace the scar still on his neck from where he had been strangled by the bats and vines. "What happened here?"
"I. It's nothing. It looks a lot worse than it is." Steve replied, trying to get out of the awkwardness of the conversation.
"Oh, if you're sure. If you want to help with dinner, you can join us in the kitchen. But if you just want to rest, anyone who's watching football is in the living room, and the Macy's parade is on in the den."
"It's been a long drive, and I had a late finish last night, so I think I'm going to take a bit of a break. I might come out and help a bit later." He offered.
"Oh, honey. If you don't feel up to it, you don't need to help at all. Take it easy, and we'll call you once everything is ready." She kissed Steve on the cheek, before going back to the kitchen.
Steve made his way through the house, glancing into the living room as he passed. He could see his dad in one of the recliners, and decided against joining them. Wanting to delay the inevitable "you're a disappointment" lecture. He knew his mom would likely be in the kitchen, not actually helping, just drinking wine and gossiping. He moved on to the den, where most of his cousins were. He hovered in the doorway for a second, unsure what to say. So much had changed since the last time he had seen any of them.
"Wait, Stevie?" One of them, Lizzie, said as she looked up to see him.
"Uh, hey?" Steve replied, a little unsure, before he was being swamped in a group hug.
"Jesus Christ, when did this happen? Last time I saw you, you were like a little kid. Now you're a whole grown adult." Another, Mark, said.
After a long catch up, bringing Steve up to date on everyone else's lives, and him giving an abridged highlights of his last few years, they then got into more serious topics.
"Was everything okay after the earthquakes? I tried calling a few times, but I don't know if I had the wrong number because it never went through." Alice, the oldest of his cousins, asked.
"The phones were down across the whole town for a while after, then it was patchy for weeks after that. It was hard to get five or ten minutes without it dropping out. It took me like two weeks before I was able to get hold of mom and dad to let them know that the house was still standing, and that I was still alive." Steve explained.
"Wait, they weren't in Hawkins for the earthquakes?" Harry cut in.
"No, they've not been in Hawkins since February? Like over a month before it happened."
"Oh. They were telling us last night about how awful and hard it had been during the earthquakes, and how they were scared for their lives." Alice replied.
"That's such bullshit. They weren't in the country when it happened, they were in London. They didn't even know that it was Hawkins that was affected until I called them, because all they'd seen on the news was a freak earthquake hitting the Midwest. It hadn't even specified the state. And then they didn't care how I was, if I was hurt or anything, all they were interested in was if there was damage to the house, and how the earthquake could affect the resale value."
"Okay, I call dibs about bringing that up over dinner. I just want to see what shade of purple Uncle Dick can turn." Becca, the closest cousin to Steve in age, piped up. "But were you hurt?"
"Uh, minor injuries. Nothing serious." Steve lied, not wanting to worry anyone. "I was able to start volunteering within a couple of days. You know, helping out at the relief center, helping search for missing people. And when everything calmed down I was helping rebuild and stuff. Just trying to do my bit. But I'm fine now."
"That's good. But thinking of Uncle Dick turning purple, who gets to bring up Fuck Reagan?" Mark asked.
"Stevie's been through the most, I think he should get the chance." Alice replied.
"Uh, I think that would go down about as well as if I told him that my best friend is a dyke and I've spent most of my free time in the last six months sucking off the local drug dealer, who was accused of being a cult leader and murdering three people." Steve said quickly, unsure if he wanted anyone else to pick up what he'd said.
"Was that for drugs, or for fun, or what? Like a hook up?" Harry asked.
"He's my boyfriend. I mean, it helps that I get free weed out of him, but I'd do it anyway." Steve admitted.
"That is something you missed out of your round up. But I love that all of us are some variation of queer."
Dinner was...interesting, to say the least. After saying Grace, they went round the table to say what they were thankful for that year. Steve had to bite his lip to keep himself from laughing as his parents waxed on and on about how they were thankful for their lives and being able to escape the earthquake unscathed. He couldn't keep from laughing when Becca spoke up against them.
"Really? Because Alice asked Steve how he found it after the earthquakes, and he said that he couldn't reach you for two weeks after it happened because the phones were down and you were in London. And you didn't even know that it had hit Hawkins until he called you."
"Steven, why are you telling lies about us?" His mother demanded.
"I wasn't? You weren't in Hawkins when the earthquake hit. You've not been there since February. When I was finally able to call you, you only cared about how the house was, not if I was hurt. And you were pissed that I hadn't called you sooner, despite the fact the phone lines were down for the whole town. I could have died or been injured in hospital, and you wouldn't have known."
"How dare-" His father started, only to be cut off by Steve's grandmother.
"Settle down. There's no need for arguing. I am inclined to believe Steve, because I do remember you telling me that you were going to be spending a few months in Europe at the start of this year."
Both of Steve's parents were visibly unhappy, but they didn't push it any further, allowing the rest of the family to talk about what they were thankful for.
Many small conversations broke out over the table, Steve loving the feeling of being surrounded by family for the first time in a long time. He got pulled into talking to different people, but he did his best to avoid his parents' eye. Not wanting to get trapped by them telling him all the ways he had bothered them since he'd last seen them. But he knew they were up to something, when his father got up before dessert was served.
"Before we have anything else, we do have a big announcement about the future of our family." He said, using the voice he always used when talking to the most important clients.
"You've sucked enough political dick to get what ever tax exemption you were after?" Lizzie asked, before anyone could take it too seriously.
Steve's dad just spluttered in anger as a call of "Elizabeth." Came from at least four different people around the table.
"Ignoring that horrible interruption. What I was going to tell everyone is about Steven's imminent engagement. He is going to be proposing to Melissa Downey, the daughter of my business partner, at Christmas, they've been seeing each other for nearly eighteen months now, and it is going to mean big things for our family."
Steve couldn't respond, processing what had just been said, as everyone started speaking, some offering congratulations, others in confusion.
"That's news to me." Steve said loudly, to get over everyone's voices, once he could form the words. "I'm not planning on proposing to anyone."
"Well, Arthur and I have been discussing it, and it is the only thing that makes sense now, the two of you have been together for long enough, the logical next step is engagement."
"I'm not dating Melissa. We went on one date over a year ago, just after I graduated. It was awful, all she was interested in was if I made enough money to bankroll her spending addiction. I made up a fake emergency to get out of it, and I would rather stick forks in my eyes than suffer through that again." Steve got to his feet, bracing his hands on the table. Knowing he'd been right not to be optimistic that the holiday could pass without incident.
"You will if you know what's good for you. If you don't, it could destroy our business. You wouldn't want to be the reason we go broke, would you? You could end up homeless. Where would you live?"
"First, I have plenty of friends who would be happy to take me in if I had nowhere else to go. It's something we talked about after the earthquake, because some people I know did have damage caused to their homes and I let them stay with me until they could move back in. Second, I don't really care about whether or not you go broke. You don't provide any money to me. You haven't since I started working at Scoops. I pay for all my food, gas, clothes. If you go broke, my financial position won't change at all. And third, I can't propose to her. I'm in a relationship, and we're both very happy."
"Is it that Buckley girl? Or did you somehow manage to convince that Wheeler girl that you're actually worth something? Because I can tell you now, you are going to break up with whatever little slut-"
"His name is Eddie." Steve shouted before he could think it through, and a silence fell across the room. "That's right. Your son is one of those awful queers that you keep campaigning against, to keep them illegal and get them locked up. And you know what? He's easily the best sex I've ever had. Especially when we get high first."
"Why you-" His father roared, his face turning a dark red in anger. "How dare you do this to us? After everything we have done for you. You'd better hope that those friends of yours would be willing to take you in, because you are not living under my roof any longer. You will have until the end of the weekend to collect your belongings, anything left will be burned."
"Except, it isn't your roof, is it Richard? If I remember correctly, I was the one who paid the mortgage. My name is the one on the deed to the property in Hawkins. I just allowed you to live there, rent-free might I add, because it made sense for you to live somewhere close to Indianapolis when your business was taking off. I had been planning to sell up. So I think maybe you should be the one to collect your belongings from that house, because I'm not sure if I want you living under my roof any longer. It sounds life you're almost never there, anyway." Steve's grandma replied.
"But, mother-" His father started.
"But nothing, Richard. I don't know where you learnt your hateful attitude, because I know I did not raise you to be the sort of man that would kick your own son out over something as minor as who he loves. I really thought you were a better man than that."
"It's disgusting." Steve's mother added. "So unnatural, and that disease."
"What is disgusting is your bigotry. I think I want you both out from under my roof, now. So, if you would both kindly leave. And I expect you to move your belongings from the house in Hawkins, as that is now Steve's house, not yours. And you better not touch anything that isn't yours, or cause any damage, because I will take legal advice." Steve's grandmother stood up, anger radiating from her tiny five foot frame. "And, unless you change and apologize for your outdated beliefs, you can forget any inheritance. I will not have any of my money going to support hatred."
"Mother,"
"Leave, Richard. Now. I'm not afraid to get the police involved here."
Steve's parents looked at him with their faces filled with utter disgust, before they turned and left. His grandmother escorting them off the property.
"Are you okay, Stevie?" His grandmother asked after the end of the meal.
"I. I think so. I think I need to make a couple of phone calls." He replied.
"Use any of the phones, dear. Maybe if you know someone who can keep an eye on the house."
"Yeah. I babysit for the chief of police sometimes, so I might call him. He'll make sure nothing happens."
"Good. And, if you're talking to that boy of yours, tell him that he's got to come up here for Christmas. I want to meet him, and make sure he's good enough for you."
"Grandma." Steve protested.
"I'm just saying." She replied before walking away.
Steve shut himself in one of the bedrooms, for a little privacy from the still crowded house while he made the calls. The call to Hopper was quick, just outlining what was going on, and Hopper agreed to keep a check on the house until Steve was back in Hawkins. Then it was the call to Eddie.
"Baby, I wasn't expecting you to call. How's your Thanksgiving?"
"Interesting. My parents decided to announce that I was going to propose to dad's business partner's daughter. They wouldn't accept that I wasn't interested in her so I accidentally came out."
"Shit, I hope that didn't go too bad?"
"Uh, it could have gone worse? Somehow me coming out got my parents removed from the will and kicked out of the house. Because my grandma wasn't happy with them being assholes about it."
"Oh, badass grandma. I kinda want to meet her now."
"I was hoping you would say something like that. Because she has told me that you have to come here for Christmas. She wants to make sure that you're good enough." Steve couldn't help smiling as he talked, somehow the day had gone so much better than he'd ever hoped.

Grief (A Friend Indeed) Part 9
Hello, everyone! We are almost to the end. I have all twelve parts completed and will be posting them every Thursday until the story is fully published.
So what's next? With Royal Pain being done as well, I'm going to try and finish Well Met By Moonlight and Find Your Shade By the Moonlight. I will be back working on the soulmate AU Batshit Soulmate and the next book in the Boy with a Bat series called Never Hold Back Your Step for a Moment. I'm also starting that omegaverse story I thought up here.
We meet Steve's family and find out more about why Steve's parents didn't like that side of the family much.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
****
Eddie and Steve wandered around town for a couple of hours, doing a little sightseeing, a little shopping, and a lot just being themselves for a moment or two.
Soon it was getting close to time and they headed to the diner. They pulled up and got a booth.
Eddie and Steve slid into one side and told the waitress that they were waiting for someone and to just grab them a couple of waters.
The waitress nodded and quickly came back with the waters.
They didn’t have to wait long before Percy came through the door, the little bell announcing his arrival.
Steve waved him over and he smiled in return, hurrying over to the table. Once he was settled he told the waitress they were waiting on one more but if they could get a pot of coffee and two cups please. Eddie and Steve both got sodas.
“Who are we waiting for?” Steve asked nervously.
Percy twisted the ring on his ring hand, looking down at the table. “A friend.”
Eddie and Steve shared a glance, wide-eyed.
Eddie wrote something down on a paper napkin and slid it over to Percy.
Percy took the napkin with frown and then he gasped. “Both of you?”
“Both for me,” Steve murmured.
“Just men for me,” Eddie added.
Percy glanced around the diner nervously, but no one was paying any attention to them at all.
“Oh.” He let out a shuddering breath. “Just him.” He pointed to someone walking up to the diner through the window.
He was a tall man, thin. Long black hair, braided to the small of his back. He wore a suit just as nice as Max’s in a beautiful silver color.
He came over when Percy waved at him. He slid next to Percy and looked Steve and Eddie over.
“Who are these boys, Percy?” he asked gravely.
“This my nephew, Steven and his friend...” Percy began.
Eddie stuck out his hand. “Eddie. Eddie Munson. We’re actually in Kentucky because of my own grandma’s funeral. Steve wanted to come visit his grandma’s grave so we took a drive.”
“Where you from?” Percy asked. “I catch a bit of twang to your voice.”
Eddie grinned. “Indiana mostly, but my family’s from Ashland.”
Percy smiled. “Nice town.”
Steve smiled. “It has been so far.”
“This is David Estevez,” Percy said, shyly. “The reason you’re parents haven’t spoken to me in over a decade.”
“Ah,” Steve said. “Yup, Clint Harrington is a lot of things, but tolerant isn’t one of them and of course my mom just went along with it. Even though it’s her money and her family.”
Eddie clicked his tongue against the back of his teeth. “Let’s see, not white, not from here, judging from the accent, and not straight... anything I missed?”
David burst out laughing. “Not the right kind of rich. I’m a self-made man. I worked hard to be where I am today and they hate that. I grew up poor in New Mexico and made my money building computers in my mom’s basement. Now, I’m a multi-millionaire CEO of a major tech company.”
“Dustin would love you,” Steve and Eddie said together.
“Who?” David asked with a chuckle.
“He’s this kid we know,” Eddie explained. “He built a CB tower just so he could talk to his girlfriend in Utah and not rack up his mom’s phone bill.”
“He sounds like fun,” Percy said, rolling his eyes.
David dug his fingers into Percy’s side, causing him to squirm and squeak. “As if you wouldn’t love it if I did that for you.”
Percy blushed. “Maybe.”
He cleared his throat. “How are your parents, Steven? I saw on the news that there was a horrible earthquake last March.”
Steve gulped and Eddie gave his hand a squeeze.
“I really wouldn’t know,” he mumbled, looking down at the table, tucking his hands between legs. “I haven’t seen them in a while.”
David and Percy shared a glance.
“They did come back after the earthquake, right?” Percy pressed. “To see if you were all right if nothing else.”
Steve shook his head. “They didn’t come home when I was caught in the mall fire, why would they come home for something as inconsequential as an earthquake?”
“Mall fire?” Percy asked.
“You remember, darling,” David said, “the one from last year where there were thirty people who died?”
Percy expression cleared as understanding dawned, and then it turned horrified. “They didn’t come home for that?”
Steve shook his head again. “They didn’t come home when I got a concussion so bad I was out for several hours, or anytime I got hurt.” He rubbed a scratch that was in the surface of the table mournfully.
“Mom follows Dad around to make sure he keeps it in his pants. Not that it deters him,” he explained. I heard him bragging once about how it’s a game to him now to see what he can get away with.”
The waitress appeared with their drinks. “Are you guys ready to order?”
“I’m not hungry,” Steve murmured.
The rest of them ordered, with Eddie ordering a side of cheese fries in addition to his regular side of fries.
Once the waitress had gone, Percy leaned forward. “How long has this been going on?”
“The trips started when I fourteen or so,” he continued. “But the older I got, the longer the trips were, until they just stopped coming home sometime around Christmas of last year.”
“Stevie...” Eddie whined. “Why didn’t you say something?”
Steve shrugged. “I’m an adult. It’s not as though I’m a kid anymore.”
Percy took his hand in his. “No, Steven. That’s not how parenting works. Ever. They’re supposed to care about you enough to at least tell you were they’re going and when they’ll be home.”
Steve looked up and into his uncle’s eyes. “The money changed them. They haven’t been my parents in over a decade. I’ve just been this trophy they pulled out whenever it suited them. Had to be first in everything. I’m surprised they only let me get away three sports instead of making me try everything.”
Eddie looked stricken. “The sports weren’t your idea?”
Steve shook his head. “It was a way that they could legally pawn me off to other adults. Probably the reason for all the piano lessons and the tutoring. How I met Nancy by the way. Gotta have the best grades, until someone puts a plate through my head, then I was just as disappointing as they feared I would be.”
Everyone else at the table let out noises of distress.
“You never should have had to go through that,” David whispered fiercely. “Ever. I’m sorry your parents were awful.”
Steve shrugged. “It wasn’t all bad. I have had adults in my life that cared about me. The Chief of Police always kept an eye on me. Dad stopped hitting me after the second time Hop, Chief Hopper, I mean brought me home after...” he trailed off and looked anywhere but at the people in the booth with him.
He cleared his throat.
Their food arrived and that last sentence was left to dangling in the air like the sword of Damocles over their heads.
Percy watched as Eddie pushed the side of cheese fries between him and Steve, taking a bite periodically, but mostly focusing on the rest of his food.
Steve reached out and took one of the fries, chewing mindlessly. And then another and then another.
David smirked when Percy indicated to what Steve was doing.
Eddie pushed them in front of Steve and he just dug into them like a starving man. He took half of his burger and handed it to Steve, too.
Steve took the half with a blush. “Thanks, Eds,” he said softly.
Eddie just smiled fondly and finished his half of the burger.
David started talking to Percy to help fill the silence and soon the sense of dread dissipated as they fell into easy conversation.
Soon they were done and their plates taken away.
David lifted his chin to indicate to Steve. “Where did you learn that if you got cheese fries Steve would eat?”
Eddie and Steve glanced at each other and Steve blushed.
“Is that what he did?” he muttered.
Eddie laughed. “It’s trick I learned from his best friend. When he’s upset he won’t eat, even when he needs to, but if you put something like cheese fries or onion rings near him, he’ll graze until it kick starts his appetite again.”
Steve looked over at him in shock. “Holy shit, I never realized. Who else does that?”
Eddie smiled at him, that closed mouth, fond smile that he was got around Steve. “Dustin and Max mostly. But El and Will have been known to do it once or twice.”
Steve blinked.
“Sounds like you’ve got a lot of people that care about you, Steven,” Percy said with a grin.
Steve nodded, blushing. “Yeah, I guess I do.”
He looked at his watch and sighed. “How’s this,” he said, “why don’t you use that business card I gave you when you get home and David and me will come out to visit you for a few days?”
Steve lit up. “Yeah? You’d do that?”
Eddie grinned. Steve had just gotten his boyhood wish of having an uncle that cared and he could feel the joy and surprise radiating off his friend.
“I’d love to,” Percy said. “I would love to meet your family.”
Steve grinned. “You’ll love them.”
David smiled, too. “I’m sure we will.”
They got up and hugs were passed around everyone and they said their goodbyes.
“Goodbye Uncle Percy,” Steve said, his voice a little rough with emotion. “Bye, Uncle David. I’ll see you both soon.”
David looked happy and shocked at being called Uncle. Jasper’s daughter would never. But here was this nineteen year old boy whom his partner hadn’t spoken to in literal years being more caring and decent after a single afternoon with him, then Beatrice had her whole life.
So he did the only thing he could, he hugged Steve again, more fiercely this time. “Thank you.”
Steve nodded. He wasn’t sure exactly why David was so grateful, but he understood enough.
As Steve and Eddie walked away, Percy and David watched them get into their car.
“How long do you think it’ll take before those boys realize they’re in love with each other?” David asked.
“I don’t know Eddie very well,” Percy said, thoughtfully, “but I imagine they’ll figure it out before we come visit Hawkins.”
David hummed. If he was a betting man, he would have said the end of the week.
But he just had to wait and see.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More info about my au just to make my comic make sense a bit more and that you dont need to see the other post just for the lil fact. but don't granted the comic as cannon, some of them are just for the funnies and not for the lore
- Mic and taco are an ex,they got together at somewhere around s1 end and end wayyyy back before s2 started because.. You know taco...
Just 'Accidentally' framing mic for hurting other people..
- Bow and bot are a twin stuck in the purgatory mansion, one day bot was just so bored out of their mind that they one day just started building things up in the mansion secret lab. And later on,they made a new bot body for both bow and bot to possess as a body and get out of the mansion to compete in season 2
- Bow and bot happily accepted balloon into their sibling cycle and happily did the sibling dance
Idk if box would get in too or not tho,box kinda suck
Ifff you wanted to know the lore of a specific characters, please tell me! I love to infodump lmao

steve + descendants verse things:
lilly is his godmother, he calls her 'aunt lilly'
clarisse is 'grandma clarisse' & joe is 'grandpa joe'
fat louie is still alive & he has a descendant of him called 'rocky' (who's pretty much his twin - louie's that is, not steve's)
like any other verse, robin is very much still his bff & a child of bashful, so cousin to doug (also this is specifically for my robin - will change if any robins wanna plot out desc verse things)
he's on the tourney team, also probably trained in sword fighting but i don't know if he does r.o.a.r (or swords & shields? whichever it is bc i'm confused)
was never really for the isle, always felt kind of weird about the whole 'we resurrected everyone because that's my canon still fuck rise of red & stuck them all in this place that is basically a prison & oh yeah they have children your age but i'm sure those kids are fine'
despite this being the verse where he literally becomes an actual king - actual king steve -, he never had his whole 'asshole king steve era' because mia & nicholas raised him with love & kindness & understanding & attention & i understand the whole nature vs nurture aspect of descendants but the whole thing is that 'asshole king steve' IS NOT steve's nature, he just did what he felt like would make his main verse parents happy & shit
genovian pears are iconic & he'll share them with anyone who asks, & probably knows fifty million different recipes for them

desc: Steve’s parents want to meet Billy bc Steve won’t shut up about him so they tell Steve to bring him to the Country Club gathering, and Billy’s not too thrilled about having to wear Polo clothes.
(this is just a scene and it’s def still “under construction” but I need to post something or I’m gonna have a breakdown so! Here we are, dears.)
For my lovely friend @okayshitbird ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
------
Never in his life has Billy felt like this much of a dork.
Something about this feels like torture. Even though he knows he’s only surrounded by people who love him wholeheartedly, this still feels like a form of sadism. Billy thinks he might understand what those little toy poodles go through.
Because right now everyone is… cooing at him. Joyce has stood Billy in the hallway (where Jonathan said the lighting is probably best after she asked) and is currently attempting to work Jonathan’s camera to take pictures. Jonathan is right next to her, trying to show her the buttons to press and where to look when she wants to take a picture. Jim is standing behind them, deep chuckles clearly bubbling up in his chest and a smirk he can’t keep hidden smeared all over his face. Every now and then he makes eye contact with Billy and tries a little harder to keep his laughter down. Billy tries to find something to appreciate about it.
El is bouncing around in the back, giggling and pulling Will over to whisper to him. Will just shrugs, face red and laughter hidden in the corners of his smile. Billy knows he can’t get mad at them.
Jonathan though…
“Oh here, you just take it, honey.” Joyce concedes, handing the camera back over to her son with exasperation in her voice. Jonathan scrambles for the camera, hanging it around his neck before turning to Billy with a smirk on his face- a smirk that says: you’re never living this down. It’s in his raised eyebrow and all.
Billy’s gonna kill the boy.
“Say cheese.” Jonathan says with the smarmiest grin possible.
“I’ll kill you.” Billy says through gritted teeth, keeping his tone as sweet as possible. Jonathan laughs before taking the shot.
“Okay, okay, now I think we should get one over here! The wallpaper is nice over here.”
Jonathan is cackling now, mixing with the low rumbles of Hop’s laughter as they walk down the hallway. Will and El move out of the way, heading to the kitchen for something.
Billy’s teeth are still clenched tight.
“I’d really rather not.” Billy says with as little anger in his voice as he can muster.
“I know, I’m sorry, dear, just a few more pictures! It’s just, I have pictures of all the other kids all dressed up and you look so nice!” Joyce brings a hand up to replace a curl that’s slipped out of where Billy has attempted to grease them back. Everything she does is so maternal- it all has such a loving touch that it softens Billy instantly. “Just a couple more pictures? Is that okay, honey?”
It’s just them in the hallway now, the chatter of the other people in the house sounding distant enough that the irritation in Billy’s chest simmers down to just about nothing. It’s just him and this woman who somehow always makes him think about the good memories of his mother. Not even the tangible ones, but rather the fuzzy ones that crop up more as feelings than as pictures. It’s something he’s not sure he knows how to truly appreciate. It’s something he’s not sure he’ll ever get used to again. It’s warm. It makes this whole place seem a little more like home.
It also makes it a lot harder to say no.
Because there Joyce is, looking at him like he’s one of her children. Like he’s her son all dressed up for picture day. He’s not fully sure what to do with himself. Especially because she’s asking his permission. So few authority figures ever do that.
He sighs.
“Alright.” He says, giving her a tired smile when her eyes light up at his response.
He follows after her into the living room, exhausted just from existing in these stupid clothes, having to look at all of these stupid smiles laughing at him like he’s a clown. He feels like a clown.
They’d probably insist it’s out of love and care. He’d definitely beg to differ.
But he’s still standing there, chin tilted up and hands clasped behind his back, doing his best to puff his chest and broaden his shoulders to look as manly as possible… even though he’s dressed like a damn Easter egg.
“C’mon, son, give us a smile!” It’s Hop, humor dancing in his eyes. “Let us see those teeth!”
Billy’s teeth are still gritted, mirth and pain definitely visible in his eyes.
“I swear to God.” He mutters under his breath before allowing the corners of his mouth to tilt up into a smile.
“C’mon a little wider.” Jonathan says through a smirk.
“Just take the picture.” Billy says through his smile, followed by the click of the camera.
Joyce fusses for a bit, moving over to the wall where all the kids have their pictures hung and trying to figure out the best place for Billy’s to go. Jonathan, still with that amused smirk on his face, wanders over to Billy.
“Hope you know how blackmail worthy these are.” Jonathan says with a glint in his eye. Billy makes sure to shoot daggers back.
“You better sleep with that camera under your pillow tonight, bud.” Billy says with sugar in his voice. He elbows Jonathan, who elbows him back, to which Billy responds with a harder hit.
The two are tussling about like a couple of kids before there’s a knock at the door.
Everyone stops at the sound, but when the bubble pops in the next second they’re all moving to answer it.
“I’ve got it!” Billy calls over the sound of them rushing to the door, taking long strides to push past them and get them away from the knob. “God, you’re a bunch of animals.” He chastises as he swings the door open.
On the other side of the door is Steve all dressed up in matching Easter colors. He’s looking down at his shoes, kicking a bit at the doorway in a nervous kind of gesture the second that Billy opens the door, and in the next he’s looking up with wide eyes.
He’s nervous why is he so nervous now I’m even more nervous oh God...
Billy squirms a bit where he stands.
Steve blinks hard. Billy doesn’t appreciate the silence, or the gathering of everyone behind his back that he can sense.
“Well? You got something to say, Bambi?” Billy’s foot is tapping incessantly. He can’t help it. He cracks all the knuckles on his left hand just by using his fingers. He’s nervous... and he swears he can feel everyone’s collective breath on his back.
Steve shakes himself out of his stupor.
“You look so good.” Steve nearly breathes it out. It kills Billy.
There are more than a few coos behind him, followed by a few amused chuckles. Billy’s face is currently burning red hot, but it’s not distracting enough to keep him from turning around and glaring at his family.
They’re all crowded together, doing their best to look at the scene in front of them without getting too close. They scatter.
Billy turns back to Steve, face still bright and hot. He absolutely hates the feeling, so much so that he can’t even think about wiping the scowl off his face.
“Yeah, whatever. You do too.” Billy feels sophomoric. Like a young girl who got asked to prom by a Senior guy. Like he’s waiting for his corsage or whatever. He feels so foolish
“Thanks.” Steve says, eyeing Billy up and down. “You slicked your hair back.”
Billy reaches up for it self-consciously. He feels that curl that fell out earlier and brushes it back.
“Yeah, what of it?”
“Why?” Steve asks, a little smile on his lips.
Billy’s not sure why he’s so irritated by the question, but he wants to believe the red on his face that he’s deeply sure is out of nervousness is actually red out of anger.
“I tried to look presentable. This is about impressing your parents, isn’t it?”
Billy’s trying not to snap, but it’s hard not to after being so strung up all week. It’s all he’s been able to think about is standing out in a field of flowers with a bunch of stuffy rich people.
Steve nods. His eyes turn softer, even though Billy’s close to barking.
A tiny shoulder is pressing into Billy’s arm then, shoving him out of the way with surprising strength.
“Hi Steve!” El says cheerfully, beaming her little smile up at the boy.
“Hi kiddo.” Steve says, smiling back just as bright. Billy shifts in place.
“Steve!” Joyce calls from inside the house. Steve and El turn to look at her, but Billy is staring at the stupidly nice shoes on his feet.
Nervous nervous way too nervous why am I so nervous please don’t ask him in...
“Won’t you come inside? I’ve got lemonade!”
Pictures she wants pictures don’t ask for pictures...
“I’d love to get a good picture of you both, too-”
Billy cuts in. He doesn’t feel too bad about it.
“We’re running late, already.” Billy says, loudly, to try to send a hint to this room full of people who can never seem to take one.
Billy still has his back facing the house, so he can’t see Joyce’s face. He figures it’s better this way, otherwise they’d be dragged into another photo session and Billy really cannot handle that right now. Not when his heart is trying to pack it’s bags and run away to the fucking city. He just looks up at Steve, shooting the boy his biggest, cry for help, ”please-have-my-back-here-babe” face that he can.
Steve takes the hint and gives a little nod.
“Yeah, we really are kind of late. My parents don’t like me being late to this stuff.” Steve shrugs. There’s more words on his tongue, Billy can see it. Steve kind of word-vomits when he starts talking about his parents and all the ways he seems to think he disappoints them. It makes Billy’s chest hurt more often than not. It ends in Billy kissing the guilt away more often than not.
“Of course, I don’t want you two being late!” There’s not a lot of disappointment in Joyce’s voice. Billy lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He leans himself against the doorway, facing the other side of the threshold’s frame.
“You can’t drive us?” El asks, looking up with puppy dog eyes that could pull at anyone’s heart.
“Nah, can’t today, kiddo. We have to be somewhere.” Steve says. It makes Billy think something so stupid he wouldn’t even admit it to himself.
Kids kids kids kids…
He pushes the thought away to briefly wonder why Jonathan can’t take them. Figures it’s something with Nancy. He’s not dressed yet and the kids seem antsy to be somewhere. He’s fine with his mind on that, on anything away from where he’s about to be headed.
“It’s okay, El, we can just take my bike.” Will says, suddenly showing up at the side of them.
The four of them push through the door, giving their respective goodbyes before Billy and Steve climb into Steve’s car and El crowds Will on the back of his bike. They make the bike look a little small, but they’ve done this before. It still makes Billy laugh a bit. Seeing the two giggle a little when Will loses his balance for a second lightens Billy’s heart.
“Ready to go?” Steve asks, like they didn’t rush out to the car to get going. Like they aren’t really late and like Steve didn’t really mean what he said about his parents, even though Billy knows he did.
Billy nods.
“Yeah, let’s just… do it.”
Steve nods for a little too long. He can’t get the keys in the ignition without fumbling a bit. They drive and Billy can’t even think about how much he dislikes the song currently playing.
He’s fidgeting still.
Nervous nervous so nervous why am I so nervous what the fuck is wrong with me-
“You nervous?” Steve asks around a bubble in his throat. He clears it with a cough after he speaks.
Billy snorts unattractively and pushes back his hair, even though the curl isn’t loose anymore. He reaches for the top of his button down, unbuttoning and rebuttoning because he needs to do something.
“No.” he lies through his teeth.
Steve gives a little sigh.
“Yeah, me too.”
It confuses Billy for a second.
“What?”
“I’m nervous, too.” Steve says, voice a little shaky. Billy doesn’t know what to say. He feels appreciation bubble up inside of him that he tries to mask with irritation.
“I’m no-” His voice catches and immediately he’s mad about it. “I’m not.”
It sounds so stupid now that it’s out in the air. He looks out the window, like it’ll help the heat blooming on his face. He unbuttons the second button too.
Then there’s a hand taking hold of his left one. Billy looks at it, watches Steve’s thumb rub at the skin between his index and thumb. He looks up at Steve, who’s still got his eyes on the road.
“Thanks for… agreeing. I know it’s shit. Trust me, I don’t want to be going here either. But… it means a lot. And no matter what, I’m still your boyfriend, alright? I don’t care what anyone thinks.”
Billy’s eyes prick with tears. He’s not even sure why they’re there, but he blames it on how high strung he’s been all week. How pulled taut he’s felt since Steve brought this whole thing up. He’s just boiling over, that’s all.
Steve looks over at him, eyes getting soft and worry resting in his brow.
“Billy?”
“Just drive, you idiot.” Billy mumbles, turning back to the window while grabbing firm hold of Steve’s hand.

Steve had been folding clothes for what it felt like forever. The moment he finished one pile, another appeared in a neverending cycle. He was more than surprised by how many clothes people could spare the moment disaster happened.
At some point, as he folded an oversized shirt or some worn jeans, his mind wandered off, haunting him with visions of everything that had happened in the last few days.
He wished he could help more, that he could do something more than folding clothes and occasionaly sewing holes in socks. He wanted to go back in time to stop all that destruction and pain, fix everything that went wrong...
And save those who got hurt, he thought, closing his fists around the fabric of a shirt.
"Hey, you alright?"
A voice coming from the side made Steve turn around toward Y/N. They started helping in the "clothes and toys" section the previous day, around the same time he did, but Steve knew them long before that day.
Steve used to sit behind them in biology class and, when he wasn't talking behind the teacher's back, he looked in a weird, bored awe at how neatly and closely they took notes. However, they had never spoken to each other before this.
"Not really, no" Steve scoffed, quickly folding the shirt as he tried to iron the creases that had appeared on it.
Y/N nodded, going back to sorting the different clothes by size and age. Then, eyeing carefully Steve, they asked softly: "Have you lost someone in the earthquake?"
"It wasn't-" Steve stopped as those words left his mouth. Of course they didn't know what really happened. They didn't know Hawkins – if not the entire world – was about to change.
No one did.
Except him and a bunch of highschool kids.
"Yes. Yes, I... I did." He nodded slowly, his eyes stuck on the printed logo of the shirt he had just put to the side. "We did."
"We?"
"My friends and I. We... we lost a friend," he murmured. "A good friend."
"I'm sorry for your loss." They paused for a good minute. "I know how hard it is to lose someone."
Steve glanced at Y/N. "Did you lose someone as well?"
"Not yesterday, no." They shook their head, fidgeting with a ring on their middle finger. "I lost my grandma, five years ago. And I know it's not the same: your wound is still new, mine had a while more to heal; but sometimes my heart aches because I can't run to her and tell her what good or bad happened to me during the day."
For a moment they stopped moving, clenching their hands to their chest, breathing slowly in and out.
"Sometimes I just wish I could hug her one last time, tell her how much I love her and just... you know... exist there with her, for a little while longer."
Y/N raised their eyes from their hands and found Steve staring at them, eyes wide and speechless. They quickly lowered them, passing a hand through their hair.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel worse with my words..."
"It's okay." Steve cut them off with a joyless smile. "I understand all too well what you're saying."
Silence fell again and the two went back to their jobs, a synchronised and perfectly working machine made up by two broken souls.
Then Y/N spoke again.
"You don't have to answer me but... how did they die?"
Steve considered ignoring the question. He hadn't really talked about it with anyone else outside the group and he wasn't sure what to say or how to say it.
But the need to tell someone else, someone who could understand, was stronger than his doubts.
"He died saving us, that fucking idiot..." He scoffed, shaking his head. "As if him dying a hero would make his loss any easier..."
He took a deep breath and he felt his throat burn with the sensation that anticipates tears.
"Does it ever get better? The weight... does it ever ease?"
He knew how he sounded: desperate, like a beggar or a dying man begging for Death to either take him or let him be.
He expected pity but there was none in Y/N's eyes. Just recognition. They understood.
"It needs time. A lot of time. And just as much patience. But it does. It gets to a point where the pain of losing them and the joy for having known them mix, and thinking about them doesn't feel so..."
"Heavy?"
Y/N nodded. "There will still be bad times though, and their absence will feel like drowning in a cup of water... and no matter how much time passes, it still hits like a fucking truck."
"Wow," Steve scoffed again, this time with more light in his eyes. "Is this supposed to make me feel hopeful or scared for my life?"
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry..." Y/N covered their face with a teddy bear they were putting away. "I didn't mean to sound so pessimistic..."
"You didn't." Steve laughed softly. It had been a while and that sound felt weird on his lips, however it fit just as it used to. "You were just realistic. And I was trying to be funny and deflect my grief." He shook his shoulders. "Didn't work that well..."
Y/N nodded, a small smile on their lips. "At least you folded that shirt like a pro."
Another scoff as Steve passed them the shirt. "Thanks? After all, this could be my vocation."
Y/N raised their eyebrow. "What?"
"Being a housewife."
They unexpectedly broke out into laughter, leaving Steve slightly taken aback. That sound was strangely soothing and warm to his ears.
"Yeah" Y/N nodded, "I can totally see you wearing an apron!"
It was Steve's turn to laugh now and when they got back to their respective jobs, he knew something had switched. In him and between them, and despite the pain still there, he couldn't help but smile at the new-found connection.

Decades: Hey, What About This...?
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist | Bucky Barnes Masterlist | Next Chapter →
Chapter 1: Nancy comes up with a clever idea to introduce James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes and Steven Grant Rogers to the modern world that they now live in.
Tumblr media
A tired Bucky Barnes came wandering into the kitchen quietly, having heard the music drifting up the corridors and the elevator.
He looked over and saw the auburn hair woman (that he remembers is called Wanda), was working on something with a rolling pin. Birdman, whose name is Sam, was working on something in a few frying pans. And Nancy, whose name instantly stuck in the recovering man’s head, was pulling out and putting trays in the oven. The ones she’d pull out would have their contents dumped into a dish and put at the bottom of the oven to keep warm.
“Morning Bucky," Nancy tells him, shutting the oven door behind her, taking her glasses off and wiping away the steam. She then walked over to the fridge and pulled out a carton of eggs. "How do you like your eggs?" Nancy asked him.
"In the morning," Sam mutters in her ear. She swats away the man who dresses up as a Falcon on missions.
Bucky heard what Sam had whispered to her - and as per usual, didn't understand the reference (which he presumes there is), and told the pretty girl how he likes his eggs cooked.
He watched as she cracked open the egg then proceeded to smell it; Bucky has a vague memory of his mother doing the same thing...
"Good morning everyone," Steve said as he walked into the kitchen. "Don't worry Nancy, I'm just going to get some toast before going on a mission with Natasha," he said, walking over to where she had put the toaster. "Morning Buck," he said, gently patting the former Winter Soldier on the bag.
She gave him a smile, as Natasha followed in not far behind Captain America. She simply walked to where Wanda had floated over the napkins. Natasha grabbed one, then walked over to the kitchen, opened the oven door, and pulled the dish that held the hashed browns (which she had become a huge fan of since she started at S.H.I.E.L.D.), wrapping it up in the napkin - blowing away the steam and she took bites. Nancy had shaped the hash browns into triangles (which she always shaped into equilateral triangles - well that's what Peter said).
"Did you make these Nancy?" Natasha asked once she had swallowed her bite.
"Yeah, it's a family recipe, Great-Grandma came up with it when everything started to become limited in the war," she says, drawing the attention of the two soldiers who fought in world war 2.
Steve walked over to where Nancy was standing after he put the bread down with the leaver in the toaster. "Your great-grandmother was alive during the war?" He asked.
"Yeah, before she died, she told me about the amazing Captain America and his band of Howling Commandos," She said, putting the egg onto the plate with some toast that she had done under the grill. Pushing it over the counter, to where Bucky was sat on the other side of the island. "I went with Grandma and my Aunt to the museum before she died,"
Steve and Bucky went quiet for a second, thinking about the fact that the vast majority of the people had died since they went into ice. Save for two people, both suffering from Alzheimer's - the first girl that Steve kissed (Peggy Carter) and Bucky's little sister (Rebecca).
"She loved it!" Nancy said. "We would push her around in her wheelchair, it was like she was floating on a cloud, she would point out different things and would go on this huge speech. I had never heard her talk so much in my life!"
It was quiet once more before Tony came in. "What are we not having breakfast at Tiffany's?" He asked, taking the toast from Steve's hand just before it reached his mouth.
"No, it's Breakfast at Nancy's," she said, cracking a few eggs into a mixing bowl. "Tony, can you get me the cheese from the fridge? I'm going to make Peter an omelette before he goes to school,"
Tony simply reached into the fridge and pulled out the bag of shredded cheese and threw it over to her. Nancy was just about to miss the catch, but with Wanda's red 'wiggly woos' it was moved and landed in Nancy's hands.
"What's Breakfast at Tiffany's?" Steve asked, putting another slice of bread into the toaster.
"It's a popular film from the 60s, has Audrey Hepburn in it," Sam says. "It was the film that everyone knows her for," he continues.
"There was also the song by the same name, from the 90s," Wanda said.
This caused an idea to go spinning through Nancy's brain. "Hey, I have an idea on how we can introduce these two to the modern world," she said, flipping the omelette. "We could have a film night, music night, it would be a nice way for us to reminisce and for these two to understand what we are talking about. Because poor Bucky has no idea who Audrey Hepburn is," she said, pointing to the very confused man sitting in front of her.
Steve had some idea who she was after Natasha forced him to watch My Fair Lady.

Can you tell us more about your Night Vale au? I'm excited to hear more :0
for sure! my WTNV au is actually something I was doing back in 2016, so there’s like 4-5 pages of content for it on my blog if you’d like to look through the old posts; they should be tagged ‘wtnv au’, and this link should take you to the beginning of all of them (but tumblr has been screwing with my links lately, so apologies if it doesn’t work, lmk and i’ll fix it).
making the AU was probably one of my favorite times in the fandom, because so many people were excited for it and it spurred a lot of amazing creativity and content! @itty-bittle wrote an INCREDIBLE fic based on it (GO READ IT RN) and @tronnies-art-blog made this fantastic piece of art.
the AU is pretty simple, i just blended omgcp into the wtnv setting and characters. I’ll put a rundown of everyone’s roles / fun details below.
Bitty (taking Cecil’s role) - host of WTSW (Welcome to Samwell), a student-run radio station for one of the strangest universities to ever exist
Jack The Historian / Photographer - based directly off of Carlos The Scientist. not a cryptid except for his abnormally beautiful cheekbones (according to bitty)
Intern Nursey - in charge of research and information gathering for WTSW. One of the only people to survive the librarians, but as a result of his run-in with them, he is constantly dripping ink and can only speak in proverbs.
Intern Dex - in charge of general maintenance and upkeep for WTSW and the station headquarters. Perpetually on fire!
Intern Chowder - in charge of being cool i guess (probably publicity). shark boy
The Wingman - Holster, but he’s a terrifying 6-8 winged angel with fiery eyes and a really LOUD voice (not that different from regular Holster). deliberately referencing Wingman, the devastating AU comic Ngozi herself made, in which Rans & Holster are firemen and holster fucking DIES
Ransom - possibly one of the only normal people at Samwell, which is probably why the Wingman keeps following him around trying to protect him
Providence McFalconer - based off Hiram McDaniels; a terrifying amalgam of all of the falconers into one many-headed dragon body
Kit Purrson - essentially Khoshekh. stuck floating in the station bathroom
Kent Parson - steve carlsberg....
Station Management - Lardo, but she’s an eldritch horror (again, not that different from regular Lardo)
The Shitty Old Student Who Lives In Your Dorm - he’s there
Johnson - does anyone actually remember Johnson from omgcp itself? i feel like a grandma whenever i mention him. anyway he’s sweating, this is too much canon divergence even for him
let me know if you guys would like to see more of this particular AU / something similar! i love cryptids

Thanksgiving Nerves
Me & M’Boys
Tumblr media
"Are you sure?" Bucky asked, looking down at the floor, his hands on the stool in front of him. He chewed on his bottom lip, a few dark strands falling loose from his bun.
"Yes, I'm sure, I wouldn't asked both you and Steve to come to my parents house for Thanksgiving if I didn't want you there." You replied with a sigh, drying your hand on a kitchen towel.
"It's just.. I'm not exactly a hero like he is." Bucky stated softly, his eyes still glued to the floor.
"I'm not inviting captain America or the winter soldier. I invited my boyfriends, Steve and Bucky." You turned to face him, leaning back against the counter. His shoulders were slumped, his grip tight on the stool before him. "And I love you both, I want both of you with me."
"Doll, what if they hate me?" He asked, finally looking up, deep blue eyes meeting yours. You walked over to him, grasping his hand in yours and brought it to your lips.
"Buck, for starters they won't. And even if they did, it wouldn't matter to me." You told him, holding his eyes.
"There you two are." Steve said upon entering the kitchen. "What's up with brooding?"
"I think he's nervous." You replied with a smile as Steve went to the cupboard to grab a glass. Bucky rolled his eyes at your comment.
"Bucky, it's just for a couple hours, no big deal." Steve said filling the glass and taking a swig.
"And if you get to the point you're uncomfortable, we'll leave." You added, Bucky sighed heavily and nodded.
——-
The next day and two hour car ride the three of you were pulling into your parents drive way. Your brothers car was out front, meaning as usual you were running a bit a late. Crossing the front steps you opened the door for Steve who was carrying two dozen cookies and a case of soda. Bucky walked slowly behind holding a pie in his left hand, which was gloved.
He gave you an apprehensive look before stepping in as well. Your parents house was a bit smaller then the one you lived at, but it was filled with warmth. Pictures of you and your brother growing up littered the walls, and the house smelled of turkey, and other wonderful things. You walked in, shutting the door behind you and hung your coat up on the coat rack next the door.
"Auntie!" You heard your niece squeal as she came bounding around the corner. She was a teen, shedding the last bit of childhood youth, her face thinning out and growing into a woman. She greeted you by barreling herself into your arms stretched open enveloping you in a massive hug.
"Hi to you too Roxy." You chuckled as she slowly let you go.
"Might a girl ask, who are the beefcakes?" Not everyone in your family knew you had been dating two men. This was your way of telling some them, of course your parents knew but as far as they were concerned it didn't matter enough to gossip about it with the rest of the family.
"The blonde is Steve, and the one that had his eyes casted to floor would be James. And they are my boyfriends." You replied as she linked her arm in yours, eyes wide.
"You can do that?" She whispered as you made your way to the kitchen.
"Yes." You giggled, your Mom was at the stove Steve standing next to her.
"You're tall, can you go grab me the sauce pan in the top cupboard." Your mom asked batting her eyelashes.
"Yes mam." He replied, as he started to open cupboard doors.
"Next one over." You called to him as you walked over to your mom, wrapping your arms around her. "See you already put Steve to work."
"He wants to hang out in the kitchen, you know the rules." She smirked as you went through to the dining room where your dad and grandma were. You gave them both a hug, your eyes scanning the room for Bucky. You caught sight of him out back, sitting on a folding chair, your grandpa in the recliner out back with him.
Nervously you bit your bottom lip, and went back to the kitchen to help your mom.
"I told her that!" Steve exclaimed with hearty laugh.
"Told me what?" You asked walking in, raising an eyebrow.
"That wizard of Oz is in fact a thanksgiving movie." Your mom replied not bothering to look up for the gravy she was making.
"That is so not true, it's Star Wars, the original three with Mark Hamill." You scoffed as you set yourself to washing the used dishes.
"I'm with your mom and your boyfriend there, it's Wizard of Oz." Grandma chimed in from the dining room. Steve looked over to you grinned, while slicing the hard boiled eggs in half.
"Looks like we have you beat." He winked.
"Dad!" You yelled, stopping mid wash and looking around to the dining room. "Tell them Star Wars is the Thanksgiving movie."
"I'm with y/n, it's Star Wars." He shrugged leaning back the chair with a smile.
"Three to two, we still have you beat, sweetheart." Steve said softly, scooping the yolks out from the eggs whites. Not wanting to get stuck watching Wizard of Oz for the umpteenth time you dried your hands on a kitchen towel.
"We'll see about that, Rogers." You grinned playfully. "Adam!"
You found your brother asleep already on the couch, his daughter flipping through her phone. He had recently divorced his wife after he found out that she had been cheating on him. Unfortunately he had to work graveyard shifts these days so he could have time with your niece. But that didn't stop you from lightly kicking his foot.
"Turkey ready?" He asked, his eyes piping open.
"Star Wars or Wizard of Oz?" You asked.
     "Uh? What?"
      "Thanksgiving movie, which one?"
"Star Wars, why ask?" He replied settling back, you niece shrugged.
"Doesn't matter, their both old movies."
"And this is why kids aren't allowed to take a poll in the house." You smirked and rushed to the back door pulling it open. You had intended on asking Bucky and Grandpa but you stopped when you heard them discussing war.
It was a topic that usually wasn't allowed to be spoken in the house. Your grandpa had been a prisoner of war at one time, and had spent a year behind enemy lines. Grandma had told you along time ago that especially when he got that far out glazed look in his eye that he was still there. Still fighting in the war to get home. They had barely been married a year when he was shipped out.
She had warned the family that the episodes of his spacing was becoming more frequent, what you hadn't expected was to hear him talking to your boyfriend about it. Quietly you crept up behind Bucky, slipping your hand on his shoulder.
"Hearing the screams, that was the worst." Your grandfather sighed, staring out at the bird feeders in the yard. "They were filled with pain and fear."
"The smell, the stench of gunfire, blood, soil, piss, and death." Bucky responded, placing his own hand on yours, your heart broke for them both. Your grandpa looked over to you and Bucky and smiled, he pointed at you directly.
"Don't go tellin your grandma. She'd throw a fit if she knew what we talking about." He said softly.
"I don't know nothing, Papa." You smiled at back him.
"That's my girl. Is the turkey ready?" He asked, starting to stand.
"No, not quite yet." You replied as he walked up to the back.
"Better go heckle the women folk to hurry up." He grinned as went inside and left you and Bucky alone.
"Hey." You said softly, watching as Bucky stood.
"Hey." He said softly, pulling your hand to his lips.
"Still feeling nervous?" You asked, taking the man in your arms and laying your head on his chest.
"Not any more, doll." He sighed, kissing the top of your head while you heard the back door open.
"Bucky, wizard of Oz or Star Wars?" Steve asked, leaning out the open door way. "It's a tie and your the tie breaker."
"Really?" He grinned, looking down at you. You mouthed Star Wars, pleading him with your eyes. "Sorry, Doll, I gotta go with Steve on this one."
"Not fair." You smiled, releasing Bucky and walking up to the back door, giving Steve a quick kiss before going inside. Bucky followed up the steps and hesitated, his eyes flicking down to Steve's lips and then back up.
"No one cares." Steve said, bridging the distance and kissing Bucky before turning back inside himself. "Everyone is family here."

The best gift ever
Tumblr media
masterlist
Summary: you received many amazing gifts on your birthday but the best present was from the boy who listened
Note: we all need a little Peter Parker in our lives
Pairings: Peter x reader, Avengers x reader,
Warnings: fluff shiz, cute shiz, sad shiz, and loss of parents shiz
you awoke from your deep sleep to the sound of the team singing happy birthday as Clint incorrectly played the tune on his guitar while they surrounded your bed as you smiled up at them,
“ Happy Birthday (Y/N)” they all yelled while popping party poppers as confetti landed on you, you suddenly were tackled by  Wanda who managed to place a blue party hat on your head causing all your hair to flop over your face,
“Thank you everyone!” you giggled as Steve tried to fix the hair that was now blocking your vision, giving up he laughed and kissed you on the forehead and followed the rest of the team as they made there way out of your room and into the corridor as you crawled out of bed and put your slippers and fixed your hair while beginning to walk down the corridor that was covered in balloons.
Smiling as you went you were greeted by your friends all sat in a circle with coffee cups in there hand as they placed presents on the glass table, your eyes gazed up at the golden balloons in the shape of ‘16’, you had made a deal with Tony to have the whole day with the team spending time together and the next night to have a party with all of his friends as ’ he wanted to show how beautiful his unofficially adopted daughter is.’
You sat between Tony and Bruce, they hugged you and wished you happy birthday as Wanda passed one of the many presents on the now mountain of presents.
“This is from me and Vision” both f them smiled at you while she placed the red and gold wrapped parcel in your hands,
“I told I guys not to get me anything.” you adorably whined while looking at your friend’s
” well to damn bad (y/l/n).” Sam heckled while throwing a pillow at you as you started opening your presents.
you unwrapped many gifts that morning;
Wanda and Vision gave you a cookbook filled with thousands of foreign recipes,
Tony and Bruce got you science-related gifts, of course,
Nat got you engraved throwing stars,
Steve got you more Vinyl records for your beloved record player you used to teach each other how to dance
Bucky got you a stunning vintage notebook after you filled the last with sketches and notes from your chats with him on the balcony
Clint gave you massive card drawn by his kids and beautiful jumper knitted by his wife
Sam gave you a t-shirt with the words “Team Falcon” on it plus a photo of him, which you simply groaned and thanked him for,
Quil and his friends sent you a gorgeous gift from one of his finds around the galaxies
And T'Challa and Shuri sent you a new adaption of your suit.
but you noticed there wasn’t anything from Peter.
You thanked them all with a hug and went to sit back down on the sofa only to be greeted by Peters adorable nervous smile and a spiderman decorated bag,
“I wanted to give it to you personally,” he whispered while rubbing the back of his neck, the rest of the team were to busy engrossed in conversation to notice the two teens.
“ Thanks Pete.” you whispered back while kissing him on his cheek so you began opening the bag, smiling as you noticed his now blushed face after the unexpected kiss, your hands fumbled around in the bag to feel something fluffy you pulled it out of the bag, you were greeted by the sight of a fluffy bear with a little heart saying press me and a scrapbook with the word 'family’ engraved on the front
you opened the book and pictures of your childhood were stuck onto the matte paper as dates and quotes where scrawled alongside the pictures of your mother and fathers handwriting, a tear rolled down your cheek as you flicked  through the pages, pictures of your life before the Avengers and pictures of you with them flooded your brain  as you smiled down and the photos.
“ I found this deep in one of the boxes of what you brought from your grandma house. Your parents loved capturing the memories of you and your family so I thought we could capture the ones of your new one.”  his voice quiet and full of nerves as he anticipated your angry reaction, but, you just lovingly looked up at the boy as your eyes brimmed with tears and your face showed a glowing smile.
“This is amazing, thank you so much.” Thanking him again you engulfed him in a hug, smelling his scent as his fingers danced along your back.
Reluctantly pulling away from the hug you looked back at the brown bear in front of you, you leaned down it and slightly pressed its paw as the sound of your parents voices singing Happy birthday to you filled the air grabbing the attention of everyone in the room, you picked up the bear and placed it next to year ear taking in every note of there voice, tears rolled down your face as you looked into peters eyes smiling at him as he grabbed your hand .
“Parker why the fuck did you make my baby girl cry,” Tony shouted as he made his way other to the sofa wrapping his arms around you,
“No don’t worry Tony I’m fine.” you laughed while looking at the rest of the team, inviting them over to the sofa showing them the photobook and teddy bear stealing glances at Peter as the team laughed at photos of baby you.
“Listen… I was a very, very, very weird child.” you laughed while pushing Sam who was pointing at a photo of you covered in tomato soup.
After a while, the team made their way back to there normal routine while you and Peter began cleaning up wrapping paper and confetti
“I um… I'm glad you like your present (y/n).” He turned towards you smiling at your grinning face, you walked up to him and carefully grabbed his blushed cheeks leaning in you gently kissed him, at first you were scared you had crossed a line but he started kissing you back, his hand caressed your cheek and the other rested on your waist, reluctantly breaking away for  air you laid your forehead on his.
“Peter it was the best gift ever.” His lovable smile made your whole world as you marked that day ,
The best day ever

🌙 for Nina (you can take that anyway you like uwu)
|Send ‘ 🌙 ’ for my muse to talk about their father.
Tumblr media
don Arms crossed over her chest as she stared down to the floor as if her blue eyes would manage to channel in the flame from the anger burning over them and somehow form it to fire out into a beam as she thought it over to herself first. "My father is Steve Rogers, born July 4th, 1918. Froze in ice and now stuck with me being a lovely chaotic mess. Before the serum, he had many illnesses which is why no one in their right min' would let him enlist into the war. Feelin' the poor sickly boy would just get killed. He had asthma, scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, high blood pressure, and even heart troubles. He was 27 when he went into the ice, he likes to paint and to draw. He loves to put peanuts into his coke. But the coke gotta be in a glass bottle says it just don' work the same with a can or plastic one. I think he's a nut. Chalk that up to the fact the serum also boosts personality traits along with the physical I guess. He once dressed up in drag as a grandma." Nina trailed off as she led back in her seat still annoyed. "I could fill may be up to 100 books or more even on the number of things I know about my dad. And not just the basic facts from years of fanning over him. The stuff I learned of him when gettin' to know him." Her Shoulders dropped some. "History seems pretty oldy tied in with my family. Pops is the man from the past. Bambi, I mean Brooklyn is someone who was kind of kept away from time and now always so invested in the now. Me I always look ahead. I wish I could rewrite my past like for reals, have it so dad was always my dad somehow. It's pretty obvious from looking at us that ain't true. Skin color ya know?" she shifts in her chair some before letting her arms drop and rest her hands into her lap. "But I was adopted and it is clear from a glance we're not biology-related. I have biological parents. I don't know my mother but I know my father. My parents were young when I was born I was going to go up for adoption but due to family getting involved my father got the rights and kept me. It be unfair to be mad or hold any kind of resentment towards him on some things." "I was when him till about I was five or six, I remember something vaguely like he liked Captain America, that's it though. That is all I really know about the guy. I was in and out of custody with him and his foster families. This system ain't the best a parent can get thier kids back despite it not maybe being the best placement for 'em. But they try to consider the kid's feelings. A kid often thinks I wanna be with my dad though so no matter the home situation when asked you go yes I wanna be with my dad." She lifted a leg up to her seat and rest her chin to her knee, lost in thought for a moment. "I can understand and I can move forward. But, he lied to me for years well I was always expecting our family to get back together. Going through all those different homes. Sure not every faster family is great but some were decent and kind. One lady even made me this basket with food and such because she was worried I might not feel comfortable enough to eat but if I had food on me then she felt I would least eat something." She swallowed suddenly trying to keep herself clam "that's more consideration than my so call father ever had for me. Eventually for a good while I never saw him I was just hoping place to place worried if I go to comfortable in one home well..yeah. I was labeled a problem child as well cause I like to get in the middle of things that didn't concern me but I wanted to help you know? I'm tall and strong so if I could help someone shouldn't I? just others saw it as me getting into trouble instead. I always thought my father would know better." She closed her eyes a moment "I built him up to be perfect in my mind he just got stuck with me due to outside influences on him. First chance he had he gave up his rights. My caseworker told me they kept that from me for some time she thought I'd be better not knowing but when I was in a bit of a rough fistfight?" opening her eyes again "Yeah she scolded me quite a bit that
day and that's when I learned the truth." She slightly bit at her bottom lip. "Steve, though he never lied to me or coddled me he was always straightforward. He'd be nice in how to tell me about things but at least we had that you know? He helped me work through my anger issues no matter what I was worth the time and effort and even patience needed. That's why it was just when he was treating me differently when I lost my arm. We don't do that stuff to each other, but I know it was because he was scared for me" she cracks a smile "I'm his kid I got seriously hurt he makes me mad but I can always forgive him...cause I know he will always be there."

If you're the praying or even a "sending good vibes and hugs" kind of person, please say some prayers and/or send vibes and hugs for me. I found out last night that my favorite uncle, Steve, passed away. More grief-stricken ramblings under the cut.
In July. Steve passed in July and no one contacted me until now. He passed away ~5 months ago and I'm just finding out. Fuck.
I have phone anxiety. Something about calling people, even family, freaks me out and makes me panic. And it only gets worse the longer it goes on without calling because then I start getting worried it's been too long and how do I even justify that and they won't understand and I feel shitty. I assumed if anything bad happened, they have my number and they can call me. Well, no, apparently my grandma only had my old number and didn't find my husband's phone number until last night. My other uncle texted me November 1st but didn't say anything about what happened.
When my other uncle texted me in November, I didn't know it was him. All he said at first was "Hi is this {my name}". So I was thinking oh fuck, what happened??? So I started googling obituaries for my hometown, couldn't find anything recent, so I figured it was ok.
I'm not ok. I'm okay as in I don't need to go to the mental hospital, I'm not a danger to myself or others, but I'm very sad. I haven't cried this hard since my mom died. I think I'm going to be stuck in the depression, isolation, guilt, and anger (at myself) stages of grief for awhile.
Part of the grief that I wasn't expecting is that I think Steve dying is hitting me harder than when my dad died.
My dad wasn't in my life for a big chunk of it. My parents divorced when I was 4, and when I was ~6 or 7 my dad moved to Texas and I didn't hear from him until he moved back home when I was 16. We never bonded like how either of us probably wanted, and that's a whole spicy layer of grief in itself. But I had grown up without a dad and didn't know how to handle having a dad again. He loved me more than I loved him, tbh and I feel like a shithead for even saying that. I moved away when I was 22(?). Then my dad got cancer when I was 24 and died less than a year later.
Even though my parents divorced when I was young, my mom never kept me or my sister from seeing my dad's side of the family. Any time they wanted to see us, my mom would drop us off or let them pick us up no drama. Steve lived closest to my Grandma and Pawpaw so I saw him all the time. He gave me a stuffed dalmatian named Spot. I still have Spot and have always snuggled with Spot any time I needed comfort, but Spot is kind of hurting me right now. I look at Spot and all I think about is Steve and how I didn't get to say goodbye. Any time something bad happened with Steve, it always broke my heart. Like when he got divorced and I saw his ex-wife celebrating that she was away from him, I wanted to punch her. I was like 10 years old ready to throw down with this woman in her 30s because she was mean to my uncle. When he got arrested for check fraud, I cried. When he got arrested for drugs, I cried. Now it feels like I have a cinderblock in my stomach and I can't stop crying. I was planning on going to my hometown in February when I have vacation time and seeing him. Now I'll just sit by his grave and try not to cry every time I see his sons.
I already wasn't looking forward to going to my Grandma's house because I can't bear to look in her sunroom. Even just thinking about that room makes me think of my dad, lying there in his bed, slowly dying. But now? How can I go there and not be reminded of everyone we've lost. Every room except for the bedrooms have some kind of bad memory associated with it. I look in the kitchen, and I see my Pawpaw holding the kitchen counter having a heart attack. That's not the heart attack that killed him, but it's one of the last memories I have of him. I look at the patio table and see Pawpaw talking about them putting a stint in his arteries. I look in the sunroom, and see my dad dying. I look in the front living room and see the hospice nurse talking with me, my dad, and my grandma. I look in the dining room, between the sunroom and kitchen, and see my dad during the last dinner I had with him. I look in the guest bathroom and see myself breaking down and crying because my dad is dying and there's nothing I can do and there's so much regret. I look in the driveway and front yard and see Steve, the last time I saw him. I look in the garage and see him sitting there, watching his sons play. If I drive down this one road, I'll be reminded of Steve driving me from Grandma's house to my house after my mom died. If I listen to Colt Ford, I'll be reminded of how Steve introduced me to country-rap while driving down that road. If I drive past Grandma's old house, I'll see the house Steve used to live in right next to Grandma. If I drive this road near where I used to live, I'll see Steve's old house, where my husband and I ran into him while playing Pokemon Go. Everywhere reminds me of someone and it hurts like hell. Even if I'm not physically there, just thinking about it hurts. If I just think about that damn sunroom, I start crying.
How the hell am I supposed to go back to Grandma's house if I can't look at the driveway and yard without thinking about my favorite uncle? I don't want Grandma to move because memories are all I really have. But damn, it hurts.
When we go up there in February, it's going to hurt like hell. Everywhere I look, there's a memory. I can't see him or hug him or talk to him ever again.
The more I lose people, the less I want to get attached to anyone. It's one more person I'll have to grieve later. I know, that's super unhealthy. I'm trying to not dwell on it. But it hurts. I'm hurting. I'm not okay. I've lost too many people in my life and I'm not even 30 years old. At 19 years old, lost my mom. 19 years old, lost my Pawpaw (dad's side) 4 months after Mom. 21 years old, lost my Granddaddy (mom's side). 25 years old, lost my dad. 27 years old, lost my favorite uncle. After the 3rd or so funeral, it gets real fucking old to grieve. The more attached I am to someone, the more it'll hurt to lose them. But if I'm not as attached to them as I should be, it'll hurt because of regret. Either way, I'm hurting and it sucks.
I'm trying to be grateful for what I have so I don't sink further into this depression hole. I know Steve knows I loved him and I know he loved me. I know his sons and his wife know he loved them. I know if there is a Heaven, he's with his dad and brother and they're happy together. I still have my husband and family and my coworkers I love. If there's a Heaven, I'll see him and everyone else one day. I still have Spot and the memories. When I go to Grandma's house, I can get copies of all the pictures I want.
Rest in Peace, Steve. You were the greatest father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to ever live.

Amy listened to her father and went to check on her mother. She sat close to her at the kicthen table and hugged her.
"Mommy I love you so much. Me and daddy and uncle David know that your an awesome person. Grandma is just too evil to admit it. Your so brave mommy, and beautiful and you can beat up the guys! Your my hero momma and I don't want you to ever change. Okay? You always taught me to be strong and to not let let what others think get to me. Well you need to do that too."
Peggy smiled and picked up her daugther and placed her on her lap and snuggled her like a comforting teddy bear. She kissed her head.
"Oh my love you are the sweetest child. The greatest gift anyone has given me. I'm so glad I could be someone who you idolize."
"Is that really a surprise that she idolizes you, peg?" David spoke as he entered the kitchen. "Come on you know your so much better than what mom had planned for you. Your successful, you have an adoring husband, you have a beautiful and smart daugther, you get to best people up for a living...what else could you want?" He smirked. "But most of all your happy, I mean at least when she isn't here. If you lived your life the way mom wanted you would be miserable."
Peggy smiled. "Yeah your right, your both right. I missed you, Davey."
"I missed you too sis, really I missed you alot. I'm sorry I didn't believe you about the whole immigrantion thing. I shouldn't have believed her, but I thought you were mad enough at me that you would-. I should have believed you, I shouldn't have listen to her."
Tumblr media
Tears poured down her face, but this time they were happy tears. She had waited for this moment for so long. She smiled at him. "It's okay, I understand how she can be. I'm sorry too, that I didn't reach out or try to mend things sooner."
"me too. But better late than never." He answered. Peggy the got up and hugged him. Amy then joined in hugging their legs.
"I shouldn't have brought mom. Should have convinced her to stay home." David spoke.
"im the one who wanted you and mom here." Peggy answered. "I thought we could all try and make peace. I thought maybe she would have changed. Plus we both know there is no convincing her once her mind is set."
"Peg, there is no changing her. In her head this is still the 1930s. She is stuck in an outdated mindset. She lives to make our lives miserable cause she's miserable. She's upset because her family changed with the times. That woman is an mule, stubborn and an ass."
Peggy smiled and laughed. "That's what Micheal used to say. Even though he was always her favorite."
David laughed. "Micheal was her favorite by default. But even he pissed her off."
Meanwhile, Veronica rolled her eyes at Steve's positive remarks about Peggy. "Oh yes having an outburst like she did was very dignified and lady like. Fighting men and spying around!" She sighed. "It's not normal, it's not right, but I guess it is a difference of opinion. I don't understand you more than I don't understand her. How could you be proud of this behavior from your wife? How could you just sit there and defend her like it's normal?" She paced back and forth. Then sighed calming herself a bit. "Look I think we are getting off on the wrong foot here. We both have Margot's best intrest at heart. I see you love her, there's no doubt about that. The way you speak about her with such pride and passion. You see good in the things she does and you see her as someone beautiful." She hoped if she changed her tone and gave a more nicer approuch he would be willing to give her some information about himslef. part of her reason to come here was to learn about him. Yet after her argument with him and her daughter. She wasn't so sure how willing he would be to tell his story. Yet she has to ask, she needed to know if this man was a proper partner for her child. "I'm just very curious about you and the type of person you are. As her mother I am of course curious about who she married and I know nothing about you, besides that you got her pregnant durring the war." She looked Steve over again. He was surley handsome and strong, but he dressed very common. His hands were callused like those of a worker. Not someone working on wall street or in a bank. "I do have some questions. What do you do for work? What did your parents do? Did you attend college? What made you join the army? How did you fall in love with Peggy?"
Meet the Carters
Peggy tushed around cleaning the house. She dusts the shelfs, the counters and photos. Then begins mopping the floors. “AMELIA YOU BETTER BE CLEANING YOUR ROOM!!” Peggy shouted. She saw Steve enter the room, she rushed over to him. “Steve! Oh my gosh I have terrible news,” she told him, almost frantic. “My brother is coming to visit and he is bringing my mother. I can’t believe I have to deal with this now! my mother is the bloody devil in a petticoat!” She continues to mop. “The two of them have been bugging the hell out of me about how they haven’t gotten the chance to met you and I couldn’t talk my way out of it this time. They don’t understand that I don’t want them to met you.”

Fall
Tumblr media
A/n: I think I’ll be turning this into a set of one shots, it stucky x reader.
You skipped through the fallen leaves twirling, your loose curls bouncing around the deep mahogany scarf that was wrapped around your neck. The start of the sun setting casting its firy glow down the street sending the changing leaves on fire. You loved fall, everything about it, from the cool evening and warm days. The ever changing colors of the leaves as the trees prepared themselves for winter. Hot apple cider, and cozy warm clothing.
Autumn, it was your season. And with it came the decorating for Halloween the one holiday you adored, yeah Thanksgiving was cool and Christmas was amazing but you lived for Halloween. As you hit the bend on the corner of your street, shoving your hands deep into the pockets of one of your boyfriends hoodies you smile. Your grocery bags hung from your elbow, swing slightly as you went. The house you shared with the two of them was expertly decorated and only a week before October this year.
You may have cohersed Steve into helping you since the over dramatic James Barnes refused to lift a finger till the first of October. It made you giddy seeing the gravestones and skeletons adorning the yard as you pushed the gate open, heading up the steps to the two story Victorian style house. You looked at the haul of pumpkin sitting off to the side on your wrap around porch, your eyebrow raised, bales of hay propped up behind them.
You fished out the key to your home from your pant pocket, noticing both boy's modes of transportation were missing from the drive way. After stepping over the threshold, you pulled your scarf off hanging it on the coat rack next to the door. You pulled off Bucky's hoodie next and hung it nicely next to your deep gray pea coat.
Making your way to the kitchen, the heels of your boots clicking lightly as you crossed the cherry hard wood floor. You set the bags on the island center of the enormous kitchen, almost giggling with delight when you saw the large bowl of fresh apples on the granite counter. You skipped over pulling one out and took a deep refreshing inhale, the tart scent hitting your senses perfectly. A note stuck out the under side of the bowl, neatly folded and written in beautiful scrawling penmanship, no doubt from your brooding boy.
    Doll,
As I'm sure you noticed out front are about ten pumpkins and six bales of hay. Seeing you and Steve decorate 'may' have gotten me in the festive mood. Do what you will with them, still not helping till Oct 1st. And I got you some fresh apples, hoping for pie or Carmel apples when I get home.
      JBB
You smiled as you read the note, you'll get him some day. You set about pealing the apples, and getting everything ready to make fresh apple pie, using your grandmas recipe. A year and a half, that's how long the three of you had been together, sharing your joys and sadness together. It wasn't easy, then again who said relationships were easy.
As you pushed the pie in the oven, the heat of the stove spilling out over your face you could hear the unmistakable sound of a rumbling motor. It was Steve's truck, his made a slight tin sound in the rumble where as Bucky's truck didn't. You closed the oven door, pulling the owl oven mits off and placing them on the counter.
"Babe? You home yet?" Steve called out as you heard the front door close.
"Yeah, I'm in the kitchen." You called back, taking a second set of apples to the sink to scrub down.
"How was the store?" He asked as he entered, the sleeves on the red plaid shirt rolled up.
You looked over your should at him, looking more like a farm hand then Captain America these days. Between his beard, longer hair and the beat up jeans he wore these days you wondered if he ever wanted to clean up. Not that you minded, you loved this version of him just as much as the clean cut icon everyone had come know.
"Remarkably unbusy this time, it was nice." You replied, looking back to the apples, setting the clean ones a side. You heard him come closer, and slowly his arms wrapped around your midsection, melting his body around yours.
"Mmm, what'chya makin'?" He smiled into the crook of your neck, placing a soft kiss on the soft skin.
"Well, Bucky requested an apple pie, which is in the oven and I was going to make some cider, or try at least." You giggled, trying to shrug him off of you. "And you sir, are impeding on that."
"Hmmm, can't have that." He sighed, releasing you and stepped next to you.
Steve leaned his hip against the counter, crossing his arms over his broad chest.
"Did you go help the Sanderson's at the end of the block?" You asked, looking up recipes on your phone.
"Yeah, those crazy ladies, you wouldn't believe the things they talk about. Plus that black cat of their was on the roof making it hard to clean the gutters." He replied, pushing himself from the counter. "Noticed all the pumpkins and hay bales on the porch, Guessing it was Bucky, since you were on foot. Thought he wasn't going to help."
"He's not." You replied grabbing everything you needed to make the cider. "His note said he refuses to help but he's the spirit of it."
"Still think he'll break and help out before the first?" Steve asked, you could hear him settle down in one of the bar chairs behind you as you went about your business.
"Yep, he's almost there, doesn't want to give me the satisfaction of winning this year." You grinned to yourself. "Give him two more days, he'll be decorating."
Two hours later, cider done, pie resting on the stove, the house smelling of freshly baked goods, you were on the porch. The porch lights were on as darkness had taken its hold. You had arranged the bales in two groups of three at either corner of the wrap around. Pumpkins placed perfectly, you had stepped back to look at your handy work when you heard the rumbling of Bucky's truck coming down the street.
You pivoted to face the vehicle as it pulled in the drive way next to Steve's. Bucky hopped out the driver seat floodlights from the garage turning on illuminating him. His chocolate locks pulled back, loose strands falling in front of his eyes. His deep blue Henley had the sleeves push back, and crisp dark denim. He grinned when he saw you, pushing the gate open. You greeted him at the steps, wrapping your arms around his neck as he climbed up them to you.
"Thank you for the pumpkins." You stated, giving him a quick kiss. "Though I'm not sure if I like the placement."
"Why's that doll?" He asked, grabbing your hand as you let him go.
"Cause I can't tell if I like that small pumpkin at the base or switch it with the larger one at the top." You explained. "What do you think?"
"I think, you're trying to trick me into helping." He smirked, but released your hand and swapped the two anyway. "Small on the top, big on the bottom."
"If you knew I was trying to trick you, why'd you do it?" You asked him curiously as he opened the front door.
"Cause I got about thirty corn stalks coming into tomorrow, and it's your fault." He sighed after taking a deep breath.
"Yay!" You exclaimed clasping your hands together with excitement, bouncing slightly.
"Apple pie?" He asked, excitedly turning to you.
"And cider." Steve stated, coming out the kitchen with two mugs.
