Hii I'm new to jirai kei n recently I joined a group where there's a lot o jirai / landmine ppl! I was asking some questions abt how to go for the fashion part of the subculture and one of my main questions was "is there any thrift store I can go to? Can I customize some clothing to make it look jirai?" And what I got as an answer was "No. Jirai ppl only use branded clothing, you can buy it second hand but you cannot customize in any way".
Tbh I'm not in a good place economically rn and I don't have a job either, so I'm not sure what I should do. Importing clothing costs 6 times more cause of where I live.
Is it really a rule that jirai / landmine can only wear branded clothes? (Liz liza, honey wardrobe, dear my love, etc)
I know I fit in the jirai lifestyle but I wanted to fit in the fashion too T--T
Thank you for your time♡♡ asking anon cause it's for me and a frien ^^"
I would once again like to preface this (as I preface all things) with the fact that I could entirely be talking out of my ass - this is just my opinion - and I am not a spokesperson for Jirai Kei or other mentioned subcultures / fashion styles as a whole.
I wholeheartedly disagree with that but also I will caveat that with the fact that I spent most of my teenage years in menhera / goth / emo / grunge spaces and those are very DIY-heavy subcultures. I'm also super relaxed about how people choose to label themselves (to the point where I barely claim to be in any subculture because I just don't want to bother with labels so I'm probably not the best person to ask haha~)
To me personally, this feels like an argument that someone coming from Lolita would make? I kind of see a link here in the sense that the two main reasons I think people say these things about Lolita are because it is really hard to make Lolita clothing and buying lolita knock-offs is generally bad for a whole slew of reasons. Similar arguments for both subcultures I think.
Girly kei / dark girly clothing can be really hard to make or DIY. I think it is certainly very possible to do, but it might take some trial and error. Mostly because being a bit over the top is kind of the aesthetic; there are a lot of ruffles and bows and lace and ribbons and buttons and cute little accessories and cut-outs and the neckline is typically very specific with decorated collars. At its base, it is just a blouse, but it's got a LOT of aspects that go into it, and if it's "too basic" then you're not really hitting that girly kei style. The skirts too (I personally think the skirts would be a little easier to DIY but I also have experience sewing with lace / grommets & making corset ribbon designs which is mostly what stands out from them to me?) You also run into a lot of the actual hardware being specific with hearts being a really common theme for belt loops or buttons, and decorated suspenders.
I think it would be difficult to DIY girly kei or dark girly pieces but it's certainly doable. One issue is that depending on where you're getting the materials for that DIY, it might be about the same cost (or more) as just buying a blouse (although this depends on shipping cost).
The other aspect of it is the argument against fast fashion which is a little more nuanced in Jirai Kei but I see where they're coming from? I mean, to be frank, ryousangata is literally "massed produced" fashion (& to be fair the aesthetics that are labeled as “ryousangata” have varied a lot over the years - it’s not just frilly blouses & stuff that’s just kind of what it happens to be right now). It's pretty much just fast fashion. MA*RS, Liz Lisa, & DearMyLove from what I can tell are mostly produced in Japan, although they do source materials from China, like most companies do (not automatically or necessarily a bad thing imo - but I will spare you that side rant bc it’s kind of not related). I couldn't find a lot of information about their production practices? So I'm unsure about worker environments for them? Generally, the big-name brands are going to be more ethically sourced & produced than random AliExpress sellers but by how much is kind of questionable (or at least I could not find a lot of information about the production processes so I'm not sure by how much - if anyone has additional information on this I would love love love to hear).
Now am I saying "Go buy a bunch of fast fashion off of AliExpress because it's cheaper and no one cares"? No. (It's also honestly not much cheaper.) But the reality is that it generally is fast fashion, so it's a weird balancing game. I think one of the main reasons people say "only buy Liz Lisa / MA*RS / DearMyLove" is because they want to avoid fast fashion as much as possible while participating in a fashion with a LOT of fast fashion sellers, and since it can be difficult to find production information they go for the big names because they're easier to trust in that aspect. (I also have fallen into this trap & have sworn my life to DearMyLove because they're the only big-name brand that is even slightly 6-foot-tall-bitch friendly T-T)
All of that being said, if you want to attach some bows and lace to a frilly blouse and call it girly kei I am absolutely not going to stop you (or honestly even judge you, but again that's just me). The shipping costs are part of the reason why I say the clothes are secondary to the jirai kei subculture especially as a foreigner because once you consider that the clothing is significantly more expensive and difficult to obtain in foreign circles it becomes directly contradictory to some of the reasons why those same clothes are so popular in the Japanese subculture: I don't think the cultural context of the fashion translates over to foreign markets (economically or socially, but I'll spare you that entire rant lol).
ALSO! Jirai Kei Subcul is awesome and has a much more obtainable aesthetic for foreign markets. It leans more into punk and you can use a lot of different pieces for it that are more easily obtainable, so I highly recommend looking into it. It might be a good medium for being able to feel fully like you belong, but not breaking the bank for an outfit.

TBH the last day I recalled how back in 2010 I was a smol tiny shipper and got really hard into pretty rare ship. It was mostly shipped by japanese fans and I logged everyday on pixiv to check if there were new stuff by them. I remember how I went crazy when one of them made doujins (of course they were on sale and only in Japan, with 2-3 free pics uploaded online) and I were so much obsessed by them. Sometimes I even asked the artist if there is a chance of them to send their work overseas, and they said no 😅
My interest faded away somewhere in 2013, and I kinda don't care anymore, but I'm pretty sure the doujins still weren't uploaded online. Well, I don't say they should, i realize well why it's not good to do so, but you know... there is still a feeling you wissed a thing? I remember I was glad finding out about jp artists uploading their digital stuff on a services so you can purchase it from literally everywhere (haha, not now, but that's another matter).
Why I'm saying all of this... IDK, maybe it became kinda a reason I make all my stuff for free. NO SHADE on those who monetise, but maby I was this lil person who wanted cool things for free and then I decided it will be awesome if other ppl will get them too. Also... sometimes I'm feeling like I want to keep something private for no reason and then I go "oh no, imagine a lil Lily somewhere, who will never see it..." lol
Anyway, here we are cursed or blessed with my whatevers. I love you ppl

hii hope you're doing well!!
first of all sorry for all the spam. I'm a little obsessed with erena and muichiro😩 they have a really cute dynamic and it doesn't help with my kny hyperfixation🤡 I'll try to tone it down but sorry in advance if I end up stalking the tag again /hj /lh
second of all!! I really love the way you've written erena!! this might sound dumb but when I was still new to selfshipping and started making s/i's I used to stress a lot about how to incorporate my culture into the story.
I'm south african so uh the timeline wouldn't have been the most favorable for a coloured (or "mixed) person. and I never really saw any shippers (at the time) incorporating their culture into their ships? it was more oc x canon so there was a separation I think..
long story short: I find it really inspiring how you so flawlessly tie your own identity into your ships. it's inspired me to look at my ships at a new angle, since this has always been something that bothered me.
third of all (I'm almost done I promise😭) I'm curious about the other hashira's reactions to meeting erena!! esp shinobu and tengen (or even the kamboko squad!!)
sorry if this sounds forceful, I just would love to hear more about erena. and I loveee seeing people's s/i's and ocs interact with canon characters. soo healing to me
sorry again for this long ass ask. I hope you have a good day🍀✨
thank you again for gracing my dashboard with your writing, it really brightened my day!! /gen
@i-put-the-s4p-in-s4pphic
Hi hi!! Thank you so much for this wonderful message!! And hey, please don't apologize for spamming any of my selfship related posts, it absolutely makes my day every time!!
About the hashira and the kamaboko squad meeting Erena, I've been thinking about writing two other mini fics for those scenarios!!
I already have some stuff planned out for her interactions with the Kamaboko squad, especially Zenitsu, but I don't wanna spoil anything for now 👀
As for the hashira, I also have a couple things in mind, but for now, have what each of them think of Erena:
Muichiro: My future wife. She's like a giant squid... Large, clingy, squishy and very white (ooc: she's not asian, she accidentally got to Japan by sneaking into a boat when she ran away from home) But she's also strong and scary if you don't know her too well.
Giyuu: My apprentice. She's actually sticking to something similar to water breathing, it makes me happy. I don't think she'll be my replacement, but at least something close to the tradition will live on. Very kind, genuinely enjoys being around me for some reason... I hear her new breathing style pays homage to all the other hashira, inspiring.
Shinobu: An interesting person. Hides her emotions quite well, especially when taking care of other people. Kind and caring, has given me tips on how to care for my pet fish. A bit overbearing and scaredy, but trying her best with her training. Odd physical aspects, quick to heal but hardly loses body weight through dieting and exercising.
Uzui: A bit scared of me for some reason, shy and awkward but very respectful and kind. Can get pretty flashy when she's happy or excited, like a random burst of fireworks. Looks a little out of shape but gives nice hugs because of it. She will be a good wife to Tokito, they're a good match!
Mitsuri: So full of love and kindness, very nice to be around! We often have eating contests and sleepovers too! Asks for advice on how to charm lord Tokito, but gets very shy around me and mister Iguro... Hypermobile and very flexible, I had an awesome time training her!
Gyomei: A kind and loving soul, we talk every now and then. I taught her how to meditate and have complete control over her body weight during battle. A bit hard on herself sometimes, but has a promising life.
Kyojuro: Met her briefly, seems chipper and joyful! Talks a lot when she's happy, has sent me letters during certain missions with sweet doodles on them. A good listener, let's me ramble for hours on end!
Obanai: Sweet but looks a little dumb. I admire her for how quickly she's managed to improve her combat skills while remaining humble and respectful to all of us. Lord Tokito is quite lucky...
Sanemi: Looks scared of me, sounds like the blonde kid that walks with Kamado... We've probably only spoken a couple of sentences to one another. Surprisingly good at combat for her cowardly demeanor, it's respectful.

I have been on a downspiral regarding a certain old fandom and my mind is full of things that I still cannot comprehend these days.
One of them could be applied to "why don't you (and by you, I mean, obviously myself) deep dive into the anime again", when my problems with it is that the art quality is all over the place (there are episodes where they use some kind of "air spray" filter that looks hideous in some of them... like, man, that SURE was a choice or whatever), I wasn't too much of a fan to some of the changes they did to it (and I feel some of these changes also influenced the original author in some way or another... look, I don't have proof, but I also don't have doubts about it), and I feel like an A+ star (at the time) seiyuu cast couldn't save it that much (too wasted talent is what I mean... I mean, they had this famous singer making a cameo-like voice... how much that cost, lmao... but apparrently? they gave the character a normal VA in another appearance which SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FROM THE VERY START?! but I'm confused because "apparently" they did the voice of the character in the Drama CD adaptation... but... an old post I looked at suggested they were cast again since they were invited for the web radio program the anime had?)
(and you think me being all "but Udlu shouldn't have been so artsy" is a very new complaint about anime adaptations of stuff that i like...)
But also, like, diving deep into the manga is probably going to bring bittersweet feels I have about it that are TOO subjective and others that I say, "man, the author shouldn't have done this in the first place, lmao" (also the quality of those scanlation from the long far away years of the late 2000s and early 2010s is... too much, lmao). I swear I have objective opinions that looking back I'm disappointed in the author's choices (and got boosted by the anime staff! maybe for worse!), but I have... man, too many subjective/bittersweet feelings about it that I feel they cloud the good from the bad.
(and one of the subjective is about shipping... if you know me from years, YEARS ago, you may know why... it's dumb... it's silly...)
I kinda want to look for the anime's DVD covers but there's a whole issue aside that is "hey, do you remember there was a time that in Japan, home media companies released two versions of the anime series in video and they, for some reason???? they had TWO different covers for the retail edition AND the rental one??" and for ANOTHER different reason? the "first season" of the anime has one of the most space-wasteful "limited edition" DVD releases I have ever seen... and they ALSO have two different covers ASIDE from the "box" itself???? and it's too fsfkkfdkfgfh.
(I wanted to write a whole post aside which basic gist was, look, I bought this other series in DVD in second hand because, FOR my luck, it's not exactly 'too popular' nor too expensive these days, and while the BD Box set from 4 years ago is RIGHT there -although not exactly too cheap either-... the DVDs also contain goodies the BD box set DOESN'T and I WANTED THEM more. BUT, I had to be VERY careful to get the "for sale" ones, because the rental ones ALSO used the same cover, but they don't have the box? thing? and some of these didn't have their obi -or their sellers didn't specifically mention which one was and the pictures they provided were too medium quality I can't-... you get me? And these were six volumes in total of a 12 eps long series, no... what? almost 40 volumes of the one I'm referring here in this whole post first and foremost.... of a series of almost 80 eps)
Also, also, finding users that were into the anime and/or manga and look at what content they had is also kinda hard... it's an anime series from the early 2010s... how many of them are still online and/or abandoned their blogs? (which ones didn't block me, as well, lmao) I already feel a little embarrassed of liking and reblogging some of their REALLY old stuff, I mean...the tumblr tags do not help me here, lol.
I sometimes feel like I want to talk about this series deeply from another perspective, now that I am so distant from the time it finished in the early 2010s... but I feel like I would be too subjective as well (pointing the one paragraph where I mention all my feels about shipping in this series), but I also don't know who ELSE to talk about it these days. It DOES have many goods, but looking back it also had its (objectively) bad stuff.

Hi! I have a super dumb question - I noticed that you have some of the Kakashi and Gojo acrylic standee thingys. I don’t know what country you are in, but I am in the US and I am never able to order or pre-order them from Japan. I WOULD DIE for the Steampunk ones that just came out. But it won’t let me do it overseas. Any advice? If not, no worries!!
Hiya, nice to meet a fellow Kakashi and Gojo fan! And no worries, your question is not dumb at all! Very understandable!
I live in Malaysia, so it's understandablely hard to get the exclusive JP merch, so what I did, if to look for proxy, aka people who will buy the stuff in your behalf and ship them to you for a fee. Of course, these can get reasonably pricey, so it's best to see if you can find a seller who's proxy to a whole group of people so you all can share the shipping fee!
To help you start, I found a seller who can buy stuff on Mercari, a JP website where people usually sell pre-owned stuff, but they very often sell new things as well (maybe they know there's an international market that wants what they have lmao). I also once found a seller who bought stuff for me from JUMP shop! So maybe, you can try googling who's doing proxy shopping in the U.S.
There's also a very roundabout way I did a few years back, where I bought some JP merch from Taobao (a Chinese shopping platform). They ship internationally as well after they store your stuff in the warehouse, so you can actually wait to get all of your stuff and ship them in one go! Of course, everything's in Chinese so there's that .
ALSO I'M ALSO WANTING THOSE STEAMPUNK ACRYLIC STANDS AHHHH
Ahem, so anyway, feel free to ask me again if you have more questions! I don't mind at all~

Izuku Midoriya x Reader
Word count: 2400
Warnings: none
(Quirkless AU)
The fluffy haired boy had finally worked up the courage to ask you out, although he didn't tell you where you two would be going. He was so flustered when he asked you. His face was so red it looked like he was going to explode. He mixed up quite a few words too. Of course, you couldn't say no to those precious little eyes of his. If it wasn't for how bad you felt for him then you probably would've said no. You barely even knew him, but you knew it took him a lot of confidence to ask you out. Most of your friends had picked on you for saying yes.
Izuku was pretty shy and most definitely a nerd. His hair always looked like he just rolled out of bed. And, well, his fashion choices were.... okay. A couple people would pick on him sometimes, but not too often. You could tell he was pretty smart, but most of the time he seemed kinda awkward. As expected your friends would prefer you to go out with a popular boy that's on varsity teams and always pays attention to his looks. You would probably prefer that too, but you didn't want to hurt the little green haired boys feelings. You knew he was a pretty delicate boy.
A couple months ago your boyfriend had broken up with you. He had brown fluffy hair that always looked perfect and shining blue eyes. He was on the varsity football team of course too, his dad was the coach. He was nothing but perfect to you... well at least you thought. Your friend had set the two of you up at a football game several months ago in the fall. You liked him a lot especially because of how most girls were jealous you were dating him. It made you feel above everyone else. He was pretty nice but sometimes he would pick on other kids. Not harshly though. A couple months ago he had started to slowly ignore you. You took the hint and you haven't talked since. He found another girl. She was about 5'7 with beautiful long caramel hair. She had perfect skin and her body's curves were sure to make any boy swoon. Every time she walked past you could smell the sweet sent of expensive perfumes. She was any boys dream girl. The way he had just forgotten about you left a gaping hole in your heart. You're still not over him. His name just makes your stomach swirl in sickness.
Izuku Midoriya is smart enough not to go for bitchy popular girls, but he knew you were different. You were much nicer than the rest of them and he could tell you especially hated it when they picked on people like him. Sometimes it made you giggle though, which you felt wrong for doing. You didn't really act as cocky or stuck up as the rest of them either which confused him. He thought you were just absolutely stunning with that luscious h/c hair and those bright e/c eyes. During class he would always study your features in awe. He felt as if you were almost trapped in the world of popularity. He knew he could never get with someone that's friends with the populars, but he couldn't help but try.
It was a Saturday night and for the past half hour you had been working on getting ready. You were dressed in a comfy crew neck and a light colored skirt. You only had light makeup on, just some lipgloss and mascara, you didn't really need to impress the boy too much. You and your friends group chat was blowing up that night, they wouldn't stop teasing you about your little date. You ignored the messages, it annoyed you how petty they were sometimes, although you could agree with most of the things they were saying. You were startled as you heard a quiet knock on your front door.
"Sweetie! I think your somebody might be at the door!!!" Your mom said sweetly.
"Coming!" You yelled out from your room quickly finishing your mascara. You sighed and walked out of your room and to the front door. You slowly turned the door knob and opened it to the boy, as expected with his wild evergreen hair and his lazy outfit.
"Hi, y/n." He said almost shaking from nervousness.
"Hi!" You said with a smile. His cheeks were growing furiously red and he was trying his best to hide it. It made you giggle a bit.
"I'll be back Mom! Bye!!" You said as you quickly shut the door behind you.
"So, you never told me where we're going." You said trying to break the silence because you knew he was too scared to speak.
"Oh.. uh I thought we could go to one of my favorite places." He said shyly scratching the back of his neck.
"And where's that?" You asked curiously.
"It's a surprise." He said trying to hide his blushing face once again. He couldn't believe he was even talking to a girl like you.
"What's that you have?" You asked pointing to the long box in his hand. You really hoped he didn't get you a present. You already felt bad enough.
"You'll see." He said while starting to walk on the sidewalk.
"How long will it take to get there?" You questioned him.
"Only a few minutes." He said looking down at his feet.
You two silently walked along the sidewalk in the brisk night to your destination. It was pretty awkward but you dealt with it.
Finally you had arrived next to a cement wall. It didn't look too exciting. It was pretty confusing as to why he would bring you here. It looked like the outside of a dump.
"Here I'll help you over the wall." He said nervously.
"What? We're climbing that wall? I mean I don't usually scale walls on dates. You're nuts." You said sassily.
"Come on you can do it." He said trying to encourage you.
You ran up to the wall on your tip toes peering over it.
"Woah..." You said underneath your breath.
"Neat, right?" He said walking up next to you.
"What even is this place?" You said gazing over the wide field.
"It's the plane graveyard." He said trying not to sound too nerdy.
(Here's some pics if you don't know what a plane graveyard looks like. It's basically where they bring a bunch of old planes from wars and stuff.)
He grabbed your waist gently and helped you over the wall. He was trying so hard for his face not to turn extremely red. He then jumped over the wall after you. He led you over to one of the planes, stroking it as he walked by.
"This is the real history, not the stuff we see in those history books." He said studying the plane.
"Wait, are these real bullet holes?" You asked closely examining the holes in the metal. He smiled at you, he didn't know you would actually find this interesting.
"Yep!" He responded, walking over to the next plane.
He dragged his hand along the wing of the next plane as he walked towards it. You tried to too but you couldn't reach since you were just a bit shorter than him.
"The Navy found this one last year off the coast of Japan." He said looking at the wreckage.
"They did a corrosion study on it... after 40 years at the bottom of the ocean this is all it rusted." He said focusing on the front of the plane.
"Our grandparents sure knew how to make stuff." He admired the plane with only a few spots of rust.
"H- how do you know all of this stuff?" You asked looking up at him.
"Well, a pilot from 44, came back a few weeks ago to look at this. He stood here and looked at this thing the whole day..." He replied while taking a few steps back to take in the sight of the whole plane.
You looked at him in shock. You knew he was smart, but you didn't know he knew all of this.
"Hey! come on." He said jumping into the plane.
"A- are you sure we're allowed to do that." You said starting to get nervous.
"Yeah, nobody ever comes here anyways." He said waving you over.
You sighed and jumped into the seat next to him.
He opened the slim box he had been lugging around, only to see a small telescope.
"Here." He said handing it to you.
You gently took the telescope into your hands. You looked up into the dark night sky through it.
"Oh my god... look at all those mountains up there." You said fascinated while studying the bright full moon through the telescope.
"And valleys, canyons, and planes..." He trailed on.
"What's that thing up there that looks like a... star sapphire? What's that?" You said studying the different sections of the full moon.
"An asteroid hit there... it made a crack in the moon 100 times the size of the grand canyon." He said looking over at your precious face.
"And... on the right is the sea of tranquility. The first space ship from earth landed there. The day I was born..." He said looking back up at the sky.
"That's why you're so into astrology, right?" You said passing the telescope back to him.
"Astronomy." He corrected you softly.
"No, well up there it's just a future world..." He said looking into the telescope.
"By the time I'm my Dads age, people will be living there, and working. Maybe even us..." He continued on, placing the telescope on his lap looking back into the shining stars.
(Queue music. I would suggest listening to Eclipse by Pink Floyd right now.)
You looked over at him and gazed into his dark green eyes. You couldn't help feel fascinated by the way he explained those things. You weren't much of a person to be interested in space, but there was something about the way he stated these things. Were you falling for some nerd you barely even knew? You questioned yourself. It couldn't be. But nobody had ever done something like this before for you. It was a whole new feeling. For sure your old boyfriend would've never gone out of his way to do something like this, let alone even know anything about astronomy.
You two sat in silence for a few minutes gazing up at the thousands of stars in the late sky. You looked over at him and smiled a bit. He jumped a little when he realized you were looking at him.
"Oh, sorry." You said looking away.
"The moon, it looks different now... It's not as mysterious or romantic." You said playing with your hair.
"Well I'm sorry I ruined it for you." He said quietly looking down to his feet.
"You didn't ruin it, you just changed it, I guess..." You said staring into the big moon.
"You know... I had never actually studied the sky like this. Because of you, I think I have a whole different perspective on it now..." You said still admiring the different sections of the starry sky.
"What do you mean by perspective..." He asked in shock. He didn't know he would have this much of an effect on you.
"Like, I didn't know there was so much to look at... It's actually pretty interesting." You said pointing to each star trying to count them.
He gently smiled at you.
"You're different." You said.
"W- what?" He said confused.
"All of my friends think you're just some little loser. They pick at you all the time. Before this I thought you were just some random nerd that cared way too much about school." You said with a saddened expression.
"Yeah... I know." He said looking down, scratching the back of his neck.
"You're not though..." You trailed on.
"W- what do you mean?" He stuttered.
"You're actually pretty interesting. Now that I realize it... there's a lot more to you than what people say. You're pretty cool, you know." You said looking down at your feet.
"Oh, I- I didn't know you thought I was c- cool..." He said still stuttering.
"Could you ever count how many stars there are up there?" You questioned him, changing the subject.
"No." He giggled at you.
"Actually, theres supposed to be a solar eclipse happening soon... maybe we could go see it." He said turning around to look at your e/c eyes.
"That sounds pretty intriguing... How about, make it a date." You said looking over at him. You were actually pretty interested in him. He was much more than you thought before. Your friends were all wrong. Even if he is just some nerd like they all say, he really knew how to make you feel... special.
His eyes had lit up from your response.
"Uh... yeah sure." He said rushing his words while looking away trying to hide his rosy cheeks.
"Oh my gosh... it's already 9..." You said while looking down at your watch.
"Wait... that's a pretty nice watch." He said looking over to see it.
"Oh yeah... it was my grandfathers. Actually he was in the Vietnam War." You said moving your finger around the rim of your watch.
"Well, he must of been a great man." He said while jumping out of the plane onto the dirt.
You two had walked home that night, holding hands, while still studying the night sky. That night he had changed your whole perceptive on humanity. From now on you wouldn't focus on what everyone else said about someone. If you wanted to know they type of person someone was you would get to know them, not base them off of what everyone else said. Although your friends weren't thrilled by the fact you were falling for the schools so called loser, he was nothing but perfect to you. That night Izuku Midoriya had faded all of the thoughts of your old boyfriend away. He was different from the other boys... in a good way.
AAAA okay that was kind of cheesy but I hope you liked it. :)

I want totell you that despite being WAY behind on your fic (RL stuff sometimes makes me sour on certain things bc of events that happen while I'm reading a thing, it's nothing the fic did specifically) but I want to let you know I've been following the 2020!NQK asks and loving them! I dunno if you've been asked this yet, but OG!NQK isn't very politically interested (human politics anyway) last I recall, d'you think 2020!NQK would be different there? 80s/90s Japan has a lot of issues iirc.
Glad to hear you’re doing OK, even if some RL stuff isn’t playing so nicely with your fic-reading habits.
So what’s funny is that in real life, I am VERY political. Like, to the point of annoyance with my friends and family; my Tumblr posts probably hint at this at least a little. IRL, I’m that person who’s literally always up to date on local elections and national news, and I volunteer with political campaigns and various official-calling initiatives pretty much regularly. I’d say politics are one of my main hobbies besides fic-writing. It’s actually sort of odd that politics don’t play a role in LC, given the POV character is a version of myself. Buuuut this isn’t the first time I’ve thought about this discrepancy, so I do have some thoughts regarding why politics haven’t appeared in the story much.
To be super meta, I don’t know much about Japanese politics in the early 90s, which makes writing about them hard!
I don’t see the point in researching them beyond a cursory perusal (which I will admit to doing when I first started LC) because forcing a ton of data about 30-year-old politics into a story that doesn’t have anything to do with said politics feels like something that would bore people; they’re here for story and characters, after all, and while a minority of readers might find those politics interesting, I don’t think it would hold wide appeal
Adding politics would really slog down an already VERY LONG narrative with subplots that aren’t terribly important to the story itself
I spend a ton of time on modern American politics, and LC is a nice escape from that
For more in-universe reasons regarding why NQK is a lot less (seemingly) political than I am, see the following:
NQK is very preoccupied with the events of YYH and likely doesn’t have the mental energy to get into politics AND balance canon
Plus, she’s 14, so there isn’t too much she could get involved in without her parents’ consent
I don’t think she wants to rock the boat where her parents are concerned, so she’d be mindful of how they view her political practices while she’s still a minor
If 2020!NQK were placed into the world of YYH instead of OG!NQK, I DO think she would more interested in the political climate of 1990s Japan, but I think the preoccupation with YYH would still apply and downplay her level of interest compared to the interest she showed politics in her former life. She’d likely keep closer eye on politics than OG!NQK does, but I don’t think she’d be too terribly active in protests... at least not as a young teenager during canon. Once she’s past canon and on her own in the world, however, I can see her becoming more political again, and probably to a greater extreme than 2016!NQK.
After all, only 2020!NQK knows how bad things will get. 2016!NQK has no idea what’s coming, that sweet summer child...
But to get very meta again, if 2020!NQK were the protagonist, I still wouldn’t write anything but a few throwaway characterization lines about politics into her narrative, once more to spare readers from having to read about stuff that doesn’t apply to the broader story. In long works, you gotta be mindful of your subplots, I suppose.
Head-canon: 2020!NQK is still a vegetarian like me, and since she’s more of a firebrand, she’d probably spend at least some time on an anti-whaling ship once she hits adulthood, though likely in secret so as not to scandalize her parents.
I hope this all makes sense, and thanks for the question! Hope you get back to the story someday, but however long it takes, it’ll be here until you’re comfy with it again.

May i ask for help? It's been a while and i'm totally forgot where to read KKM novel 14 & 15. and where to hear/download the Drama CD of the Novel 14-15. And where to buy it, someday. In English because i can't read Japanese.
Hello! You can read everything here in Baka Tsuki, you have all the novels, gaidens, specials and drama CD translations.
As for audio downloads, please check here in my blog. I have several pages of downloads, you can always check the menu at the left side in my main page. Please let me know if you find some links broken, it’s been a while since I checked if all of them works.
Also, some drama CDs are uploaded in my youtube account. You have also the musicals subbed there.
As for buying. There’s nothing in english, except the cancelled manga from Tokyopop USA who was released until volume 7, and it’s very old and hard to find but I saw it used in Amazon. There’s no oficial English translation of novels or drama cds, or anything, so I can recommend you some pages to buy stuff but it’s all in Japanese.
Fans overseas can buy things on Mandarake (I recommend using the search in japanese, copy the name of the series from wikipedia. Also check you’re buying from the same store location or you’ll pay more than one shipping) and CD Japan (all novels and manga were added here per my request), and also Ebay and Amazon of course.
I would also love to encourage fans to buy things but sadly there’s no new releases, and these past years everything is limited edition, only Japan, or super hard to get from overseas D: All that old stuff you can get is mostly second hand or too old to count as income for the franchise. But if in the future we have some new merchandise I’ll post and strongly encourage everyone to try buying it!

I have been enjoying the shipping meme so far, thank you for asking, and I hope you are as well! Drawing is. Hard. I look forward to the rest of the ask! Also, I see that discussion thing and thought.. might as well. What do you think about the whole PewDiePie/Felix situation? I'm not too into the issue and I don't know the whole story of both sides, but I heard that Felix blurred the line between offense and humor enough to face consequences. Penny for your thoughts? - Triple Meme Anon.
Oof. This whole shit show. This is something I’ve wanted to bring up many many times, but chose not to. Mostly because I don’t know the entire story myself (though I’ve seen Philip Defranco talk about it on his show), and because I know what usually happens from talking about stuff like this nowadays. But, here we are, and I’ll try not to ramble on for too long.
I seem to live in a fascinating reality where freedom of speech is both encouraged, and is the unpopular opinion. Simply put, if your opinion doesn’t fit squarely into someone else’s views and opinions, there’s a good chance they’ll do everything they can to silence you, and try to convince others to do the same.
I suppose what really confuses me the most is why people are making such a big deal out of a shock humor joke that went a little too far. If you stop and think about it, how is this any different from what other comedians do when they try to push the boundaries? Hell, how is this any different from what shock humor shows like South Park, Family Guy, or even the Simpsons do? George Carlin once said that it’s possible to make anything funny, and on some level, I agree with him. With that being said, that doesn’t mean every kind of humor can be executed well, and people aren’t going to find everything funny. Comedy is as subjective as art, and it’s up to you to decide if it’s something you want to support, or ignore.
So yeah, if you already couldn’t tell where I’m going, I’m of the opinion that Pewdiepie is getting more crap over this than he actually deserves. He made a stupid joke. A joke that he’s been apologizing for, and even he himself acknowledges went too far. If this were anyone else, that would be the end of it. And yet, there have been people, from the every person to the news outlets(I’m lookin at you, WSJ), who have been completely blowing this out of proportions, to the point of cherry-picking information and handling everything about this story so poorly just to sell you a narritive. Because that’s how much power words can have, and why it’s so dangerous to spread misinformation. Regardless of what you think about publicity, the right kind of publicity can destroy lives, and we’re seeing an attempt at that here with Pewdiepie. Even worse, is this mentality that if you have this kind of opinion, there are those who think it’s okay to send that kind of hate towards you. Just looks at what’s been happening with Markiplier and JackScepticEye. A lot of what they’ve been saying is some of the same things I’ve been saying. That Pewdiepie made a bad joke and should be held accountable for that, but isn’t deserving of all of the labels and hate he’s been getting. Even though Mark and Jack know far more about what’s been happening, it doesn’t matter because they’ve been getting the same level of negativity as Pewdiepie has. By speaking out, by association ALONE, that gives some people enough justification to throw a negative label on you. Just for the crime of saying “maybe you guys are taking this too far”, or any kind of dissenting opinion.
My thoughts on the joke in question is it’s not funny. Does that mean Pewdiepie did something worthy of hate or death threats? Hell. NO. Really, I think the worst thing about the joke is the timing. Sometimes what makes a joke offensive as a whole is when the joke was said. Remember when Gilbert Gottfried made a tsunami joke (which he’s long since apologized for) right after the Tsunami that happened in Japan a few years back? If I’m not mistaken, that’s what got him fired from working with Aflac. And yet to this day, I still don’t hear people complaining about it or trying to label him a racist or a monster after the fact. Sound familiar? Whether the news or anyone else acknowledges it or not, we’re kind of living in a modern day equivalent to the Salem Witch Trials - the Red Scare if you want something a little closer to recent memory. Rather than accusing people of being witches or communists, the accusation is racist, white supremacist, nazi, whatever socially taboo label you want to throw around. And I’ve seen these kinds of words thrown around everywhere - to the point where it’s borderline comical to see how people are using those words.
I think that’s about everything I have to say. You don’t have to find a joke funny, but at the same time, you don’t need to lie or threaten someone about it. Talk about it. Discuss it with others. If the joke is that much of a problem, then speak your concern. But for the love of god, don’t think that gives you the right to throw a tantrum and spew hate at anyone who disagrees with you.
Before I close things up, I want to leave a link to an interesting clip I found from a show called Duckman, in which the main character also comments about his views on comedy. My hopes at the moment is everyone eventually moves on. I already have, because I’m not going to let one bad joke ruin everything else for me.
