No Tears of the Kingdom for me until USPS delivers the damn thing, but I beat my run of Breath of the Wild tonight.
I kind of rushed through it, especially toward the end when I started looking up all the remaining shrines I had left to complete. It's not an ideal way to play unless you're a speed runner, but BOTW for me is a long con that takes well over a month to beat. I probably could have taken my time just a bit more since I knew my copy of TOTK would not be here today. But I also maybe should have started sooner...but Mario brain would not let me. I was too high off of the movie. Anyway... despite all that, I still had an amazing time.
It's not perfection but this is exactly what I needed the next Zelda game to be after I was severely disappointed with Skyward Sword. And it's what I hope Zelda continues to be, but more refined, and slowly re-integrating what worked from the old formula...
Frankly, I don't want to ever fully go back to the old formula. I don't see any reason to. I think they nailed it the very first time and have not improved on it in any meaningful way. All the 3D games that came after OOT, followed that blueprint, but they all essentially took a swing at the king and they all missed... the old formula can live on in the form of 2D Zelda, which I don't think is going anywhere. Besides Ocarina, my favorite Zelda game is the original game on the NES. And playing this game felt a lot like playing both of them for the fist time again. And being able to go where I want with an obvious intended path very much reminds me of Zelda 1.
When I first played this game, I had a gut feeling... that this would be my new favorite Zelda game for several years, but the instant they released another one that expands on the foundation of BOTW, it's going to plummet down my ranking, dethroned by it's successor. And I do hope that ends up being true... but I also hope there will still be a reason to come back to this one. If not... well I'm just glad I got to take one more adventure before Hyrule changed. Ah... on this play through, I did the main quest as soon as I could, and then the Champions Ballad as soon as I could, because my god the Master Cycle Zero is the best thing that has ever been in a Zelda. I don't use horses, but you can't get me off of Master Cycle zero for anything... it's still wild that this concept was born in Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and made it's way to canon Zelda games... did not do trial of the sword though. Fuck that. Once was enough. Got all 120 shrines because I did want to get that Wild Armor set... I don't dislike Link's new look, but to me, Link's color will always be green... and if the Tunic of the Wild is not in TOTK, I will be doing most of my adventuring in the Hylian Tunic dyed green, assuming the dye shop is still in business... if the wild set is in the game, I sure hope it's not an end game reward. I want to have stuff to do besides looking for Korok seeds in the iconic green outfit. Now what to do with myself while i'm still waiting for TOTK to arrive...

Birdsong
Legend knows that Marin is gone. He knows he will never see her again. But sometimes he has moments where he can still feel her around. And maybe that's enough for now.
Hello! This is my first time writing something for Linked Universe!
I am very new to Legend of Zelda as a whole, but I have been loving what I've experienced so far. I'm almost done with Link's Awakening (I watched the Game Grumps play the Switch remake a while back, but I'm finally playing the Gameboy Colour version for myself!) and I love Marin so much... I completely understand why Legend would have trauma about her loss.
I know that the ending of Link's Awakening at least heavily implies that Marin's spirit became a seagull, so this story can either be read as existing under the interpretation that she didn't, or that Marin's spirit lingers in other places as well, watching over her beloved Link. I really like the second option.

Legend knew he could never see her again.
She was gone, and he wasn’t stupid enough to hopelessly believe she could ever come back, but that didn’t change that there were moments when it felt like she was still around.
It was early morning, and the group was already moving, making their way through the dense forest despite the occasional yawns that echoed through the air from party members who might not have gotten enough sleep the night before. Every so often, someone would say something, and someone would respond, but it never led to a conversation. It was far too early for conversations.
The only sounds surrounding them were the calls and chirps of birds greeting the morning. It made walking through the forest while tired and still stiff from sleep feel actually somewhat peaceful.
And then the song started.
The sound of a bird gently singing, like a beautiful voice floating between the trees, making the peaceful atmosphere feel even more soft and relaxing.
It was Marin’s song.
Legend stopped dead in his tracks, unable to move for a moment. All he could do was listen to the bird singing, feeling a multitude of emotions rush through him. The others immediately noticed his sudden pause, and it was Sky who turned to cast a questioning and worried glance at him. “Is everything alright?”
It took a moment for him to be able to respond, but eventually Legend was able to nod, his voice coming out a bit shaky and unsure. “Yeah… Something just came over me. I’m okay. Let’s keep going.”
The group seemed hesitant, but continued to move, and Legend walked with them while continuing to listen to the birdsong, feeling his lips turn up into a small smile. That beautiful song that he remembered her singing so vividly, now being performed again by a twittering bird.
Legend knew he could never see her again. He knew she was gone, and that she was never coming back no matter how much he hoped she would someday.
But sometimes the world was kind enough to grant him a moment where he wondered if she still existed somehow, even if he would never be able to speak to her again or tell her how much he still cared for her. Her spirit still lingered, in the songs sung by birds, and the beauty of the nature that always surrounded him. Even in a Hyrule other than his own, that spirit remained.
And that thought was enough to give him some comfort.

Top 25 Formative Games/Series For Lily Cutesmith, Dipshit Game DevTM here's a long ass post about these and my thoughts if that's something you're interested in
anyways I made a long ass thread about my choices here so I'm formatting it better here under a readmore (games are done in no particular order really)
7th Dragon Code VFD is a fun game that's probably the weakest in the series but it is the only one that came out over here and while the others have fan-translations i havent gotten too far in any of them. They're good games imo! VFD just sorta came out and was there when I needed it. It's not good once you play the other games and find out the developmental history of VFD is "the company making it went under and SEGA basically finished it for them and its a fucking miracle it even came out this side of the pond." The 2020 games (there's two) for the PSP have Hatsune Miku in them and you can unlock the Miku version of the OSTs by saving her in a side mission in those games and they have some REALLY cool environmental art direction/design so I think they're worth checking out. The series was started/directed by the director of the first EO game and you can very easily see the shared DNA in the series, despite the different design direction it took. VFD is VERY easy to break once you reach a certain point in the game so its by far the easiest, and in all of the games the random encounters are only really threatening for the first few levels, but the real meat of the combat is in the Dragon and Boss encounters. The party size is a more standard 4-members in 1, with a row system too and it plays largely like what one may consider a standard rpg combat system with the React Turns being kinda there. 2020 takes the React Turns and turns it into a genuine part of the game's action economy once you get access to the buffs that grant them upon fulfilling the conditions. This is vital due to the game's 3 Member party size! Its cool. I like it a lot and would love to explore the design space of that further, because i think its a much more interesting system then SMT's Press Turn System. It's something that's really got my brain juicing.
It was a bloody battle between Link to the Past and Link's Awakening but I think the randomizer specifically pushes LTTP to the finish line for me. I really like both and other zelda games though so tough choice. I like a lot of zelda games to be fair and am a known Zelda 2 enjoyer (ill beat it one day…) but like, Link's Awakening sticks to me because a) played it a lot as a kid, and b) man it's story is pretty good and I read someone's take on it as being a farewell to the like, more simple stories of a hero vs the dark lord that most adventure stories had at the time as they shifted to being much more in-depth and grown-up in a sense? And I think that's neat. However, Link to the Past won over it for me here because like, man, I did 100% the GBA version including the four swords content/bonus dungeon, and also like, I spend a lot of time with the randomizer and I've really come to appreciate the like, toolset and layout of the game. It's cool as hell. I don't really have strong opinions on the 3D games frankly. I like the setting of the series though, its a p huge influence on me, and I would be loathe to not include a representive on this list.
I'd probably put Pokemon Scarlet here instead but i didnt see it in the fucking thing and apparently Pokemon Ruby wasn't there either (was not into the remake) so Red version it is (i played yellow but lol) realistically this just represents the entire series for me tho. So you might go "lily why the fuck Scarlet?" and like, man, its probably the most fun I've had in a mainline game and the story was a lot of fun to go through. I havent played the DLC and tbh I'm probably not going to but I like what I've heard of it. The ost also fucks but that's pretty much the standard for pokemon, there's always bangers in there. ANYWAYS, the point here is that pokemon is hugely influential on me and that's why it's on the list baby!!!!!!! I have a million thoughts on the design of pokemon games but that's something for an Ask and another time.
Kirby Super Star is also here bc I played it a SHITTON as a kid and the cart we had was faulty so we often had to do the entire game in one go typically but the nature of the game made that mostly fine and it was fun so like!! Like, I would probably rank Planet Robobot or Forgotten Lands or even Star Allies higher then KSS, but I think in terms of like, once again, influencing my Entire Identity And Existence, KSS takes the cake!! I don't think I have much more to add to this point tbh, I just really like Kirby games!
Fairune Collection is here partially bc I did really like it and it kinda made me think about what a game IS. Also i really like the games by the dev and the worlds they've built so it goes here. This point also includes Kamiko and Transiruby by the same dev as well. I really like how their pixel art looks and the overall visual direction of their works. Also cute girls. That's vital here. I think if you like, puzzle adventure games, the Fairune Collection is a good pick up. They're funny lil games.
you dont play Fall Guys to win, you play it to be the Biggest Clown in the show, and sometimes that gets you the win. I play with a friend only though so the clowning IS twofold. But also like, honestly, the game controls in a very specific way that sucks but Purposefully So? It feels good to play. It's a very interesting game design-wise in that way, and the level creator really lets you explore that and that's cool. The like, """kaizo""" level potential is honestly really high and we've seen some cool stuff in that regard too. Obviously I am obligated to say that it is a F2P game with microtransactions for funny outfits and animations, so obviously if that's bad for you then don't play it. I DID drop money on it for the miku outfit and concert emote myself bc like, miku. We also discovered that you can grab-cancel emotes and if they make a sound at the start you can beep very aggressively and its VERY funny. It fucking rules to beep around someone and then they figure out how to do it and join us and like, the game really stands out when you do the classic "jump and emote at someone to communicate in an mmorpg" activity.
"Why no souls games?" I enjoy souls games but they weren't ever particularly like, influences to me? Code Vein however is where I got my current sona/vtuber design idea from and its a fucking unhinged 6-7/10 game ever it rules. Like where do I even start with this game really? It's a mid to bad story with pretty fun combat and systems and a very funny character creator and its impossible to take seriously with most of the level design being Whatever with the exception of the Cathedrel of Sacred Blood which is a huge fucking part of the game that actually tests your observational skills outside of the enemy encounters, and the game is fucking FUN as hell! incredible game changed me as a person, made me feel like I was starting to really understand video games as a medium when i finished it.
Shadowbringers is specifically the expansion and not like the entire FFXIV game; its an incredibly strong story about fighting for a future you may not even see and that's extremely resonate to me. makes me want to make an rpg. I'm not gonna lie, I kinda soured on FFXIV after Endwalker for a variety of reasons (shoutouts to the raid series though, Scream is a banger song), so I dont really play it anymore. Shadowbringers is still in my heart though, and like, man, its hard to describe. Ardbert is fantastic, the conclusion with Elidibus is incredible, going through whats left of the First really drives home the despair of the situation while showing the resilience of the people still remaining, emet squelch is there. And like, really, I think the story as a whole just very much resonates with me especially with gestures at the world as a whole going on so like, idk maybe I'm saying the wrong words then what I mean too. I'm into it. Shoutouts to Eden 8's pre-final phase with Gaia being Gay As Hell. That part in conjunction with the song live rent-free in my head, esp as inspiration for one of my pairs of OCs.
Zero 2 is here bc its a fucking good game that greatly influenced my tastes in gameplay and aesthetic. why arent people making MMZ-style games where are you people. Anyways I don't know how much I could add or explain this because really the "MMZ-Style Games" bit doesnt make sense unless you're familiar with how the games feel to play lmao. There's a niche for incredibly tight movement + combat in a 2d Platformer with levels that you can play for Rank to test yourself and i am just not seeing them tbh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iji is the first game to make me cry as a teen. one of the strongest standouts from the early western indie game scene by far. I dont think I particularly cared for the gameplay thinking on it, but I also think that's like fine because its a very unique game and it plays well enough for exactly the kind of game it needs to be. The fact this is one of the first games to go "hey, you don't actually need to kill anyone, and in fact, you probably really don't want to anymore once you get the fuller picture of what's going on because god DAMN the situation is bad" is really important to me and like, man, maaaaaaan, the game's good. Shoutouts to Asha, worst funniest cockiest dipshit ever 10/10.
An Untitled Story is just a solid game from celeste dev who is responsible for the game maker platformer engine I eventually adapted into my own form. I think the game itself is like fine and I really like that one of the MAIN upgrades you get for progression is straight up hatching from an egg. Ultimately, the game is on here because it greatly affected my game dev trajectory. "Why not Celeste tho?" i havent played it and really just havent felt like playing it, its not the time yet.
I picked Double Dealing Character as the touhou representative because while Ten Desires is the first touhou game I truly got into and beat repeatedly, DDC is like, the one that REALLY got me into the series and made friends during. I think if you're looking to try playing any of the mainline touhou shmups this is a good starting point; there aren't any like, game specific mechanics you need to worry about and there's some really fun/funny spellcards that'll trip you up, the challenge is just in the right spot I think. Touhou as a SERIES is a huge inspiration for me (I literally made several fangames at this point) so it resides in a special place in my heart.
tetris attack is a game that i wish i could play against other people like i straight up plan on implementing online into touhou panel date pon for this explicit reason i crave violence that only swapping panels can sate. i really dont need to add more to this, but I also enjoy Dr Mario and Tetris. I don't think I'm MASTERFUL at them but I fall into a weird spot of "Not Pro but Super Not Casual" for them so its hard to play Versus in these games (not that there's easy ways to play falling block match 3 versus games that aren't Tetris or Puyo but i mean…)
the probably big ???? here for most people who are familiar with it is Mystic Quest and a) dude that game's soundtrack FUCKS b) I played it a lot as a kid whenever my family stayed at my aunt's house and it was so much fun. S/o to Shining in the Darkness for the same reason (and is probably why i latched onto EO in the first place tbh). Listen, FFMQ is the most baby shit rpg ever but it is a vital piece of my soul as a game designer/developer/person. You have to respect it, if nothing else for the OST.
La-Mulana, Baba is You, and Ittle Dew get the same entry on here as they are more or less on here for the same reasons. They're all puzzle games on wildly different axis and really made me think about what challenge means for a video game. La-Mulana (this includes 2 for the record) because the game asks you "ok dipshit, how good are you at taking and using notes and remembering what verbs you have? Also here's some slapstick jokes for your enrichment lol". Its great. You have to respect the game because it WILL throw a banana peel in front of you and you WILL slip if you aren't paying attention. Baba Is You is just a phenomal take on sokoban. Rules are fake actually as it turns out. Ittle Dew I struggle to remember any actual puzzles from (granted its been a Hot Minute since I played it) but I DISTINCTLY remember that both 1 and 2 do the funny joke of "hey if you know how to do weird shit with your tools you can get into Places You Shouldn't Be In" and that owns. It's similar to Baba Is You in that regard but it feels like a very different angle, imo. These games helped me sort of like, come to terms with and grasp the idea of games challenging you from different angles? Its not ALL about execution, after all!
shoutouts to crocomire jumpscare, got me good when i was like, 8-9. Super Metroid really sticks in my mind as a result of playing it a lot as a kid, but especially because of that part. I picked Super Metroid specifically bc its the game I probably played the most of when I was younger, though realistically that title might actually belong to Zero Mission bc I did nearly everything in that game except for the Low% Runs bc jesus christ those are hard as hell. Anyways I really like Metroid Primes 1 and 2 (didnt particularly care for 3? wii-mote aiming doesnt do it for me either) and most of the games and like, I've talked about how the gamefeel of the 2D ones is very unique and I dislike the term metroidvania bc there's usually way more emphesis on the -vania part then anything like Metroid lmao. But yeah, samus cool and gay. Would love to see people make metroid-style games with a slower n more methodical gameplay style tbh. I should also make that at some point.
Etrian Odyssey V is my pick for EO because imo its probably the most solid one in terms of the team figuring out how to design the games and just has REALLY fun class and encounter design. I get why ppl might shy from it bc its different aesthetic from the others but its good. Each class has a Base Set of Skills that sort of gives you an idea of how they'll play but then you unlock the Master Sets and you have to pick one for each class (each class gets two) and that allows you to really focus your characters and the teambuilding aspect really pops off at this point. The FOE puzzles and dungeon layouts are fun and the random encounters will explode you for fucking up, its great. Just a really strong and focused entry to the series, and I feel like the one that really delivers on the EO experience. I don't really wanna talk about the other games otherwise we'd be here all night but I do want to make a note that if you're looking to play the first 3 games, the HD Remasters are probably your best bet as the QoL shit (+ slight balance changes to how some skills work/they behave properly now; Beast notably still works the same but is better now due to the Provoke changes; "but Loyalty still sucks?" welllllllll there's quirks to how you can use that to your advantage actually; remember these are team building games!) really helps make them easier to play and get through. Anyways big fan of EOV, its decidedly my favorite after getting thru most of my second replay (i need to get back to it lol). Recommend if you're itching for an RPG with teeth that's not overwhelming you with a bajillion numbers and has a lot of depth to how you can build your team.
Order of Ecclesia is here bc gender. also bc its my second castlevania game (i started with Dawn of Sorrow) and i managed to 100% somehow. idk its a fun game and i think it might've been one of the first games where I REALLY started to understand the concept of game mechanics, because idiot baby me finally realized that "oh enemies have RESISTANCES and WEAKNESSES and my weapons can HIT those weaknesses for MASSIVE DAMAGE" after trying to genuinely master the game for the hitless medal rewards (unhinged btw, but i mean you also got the Death Ring bc well if you're using that you HAVE to do hitless lol). Anyways I dont care much for Castlevania as a series tbh, but OoE (and by extension DoS) were formative games for me so they go on here. Shanoa is also Gender so like, lol lmao
I dont actually have much to say for Knytt Stories. I cant remember as much as I would like but I feel fondness recalling it and I think it definitely influenced how I think about games. This goes for Knytt too, the first one. I think if nothing else, these games were probably the first games I played where the primary focus was simply area atmosphere and VibesTM and they were cute and fun to play.
dragon's dogma is on here bc i think its one of the first games where I actually thought about my character's gender and tried out the name Robin for a bit there. also its a fun fucking game and I liked how wild it gets past a point. Really just, primarily hoping that 2 has a much larger enemy variety pool. Clambering around on shit and stabbing it was hella fun. But yeah this is really just on here for the gender reasons lmao.
Wonder Girl 3 The Dragon's Trap (the remaster/make/whatever) is the game to bring up whenever "does animation affect game feel" as a topic comes up because its THE shining example of it doing that imo. its also just a good fucking game I think about a lot. good ost to boot. Like, I think about the game itself and its like just a really solid fun action platformer with exploratory elements and minor ""rpg"" elements? but it really vibes with me aesthetically. It's an inspiration for me, because frankly I love making these sorta games? I wish there were more like it.
ok last game. Potato Flowers in Full Bloom is such a good fucking game. its cute. its good. I would kill for Chief, love her. she just wants to feed the world dude. 10/10. its kind of like a puzzle rpg in a sense? I really like it. DRPGs are a niche genre, and I think PFiFB is a very unique take on it, and like, I really recommend it if you're juicing for something that's a bit different. Last I checked you can cheese a lot of it by building an evasion character turbo hard but like I think that's fine, there's plenty of variety in terms of how you can build characters and its fun. It's cute. It made me rethink how I approach game design? I think? Idk. It's just a game i really enjoyed and I think you should try out if you like RPGs.
I forgot to talk about the X Series since the thing didnt have X1 on there for some reason so the Collection is there (for the PS2). The series quality is all over the place but damn if it aint a formative series for me, in much of the same vein as the Zero series.
In conclusion you need to have played at least 75% of this list if you want to stand even a chance of dating/fighting me.
EDIT: actually I have a couple of notes I want to talk further about to.
a. "Why no Mario games? Sonic games?" So While I Do Enjoy Mario Games, none of them are what I would call necessarily formative for me? They're all more like, games I take inspiration from rather then affecting my brain on the level the other games did. As for Sonic, I just have not play the games LOL.
b. "Undertale?" Man, I like Undertale a lot, its just not on the list for a similar reason to the above.
c. I did try to stick to one game per series/developer but that sorta fell apart as I racked my brain for games lmao. shit's hard when you have a lot of thoughts and poorly processed words.

Thinking of rewriting Blood of the Covenant into my own links meet au just to have more room with characterization. Main cast below
Hyrule: oldest of the lot. Ranger-y vibes. Will effortlessly sidestep low level fights and monster ambushes, they're simply not worth the effort. Is also excellent at assessing a threat, and avoiding getting in over his head. Has an excellent beard. Legend: About mid age of the group, early 20's-ish. Only cover LttP and LA. Alternately very soft and gentle, and very hot tempered. Will not stand by and observe injustice, even when odds are very much against him. This has on at least one occasion resulted in several dead bodies and himself with several injuries. Can take jokes at his expense, but not insults: an insult pointed at him (or someone he cares about) is liable to end in bruised knuckles and bloody noses. Enjoys beekeeping. Light: The heroine of Light from Ancient Stone Tablets. Slightly younger then Legend, with a more layed back personality. A bit of an unknown, with a mysterious past, and a couple of abilities inspired by a certain 80's cartoon that absolutely possessed my childhood. Twilight: Easily the most cynical of the bunch, though not to the point of being obnoxious. A few years older than Legend. Is either the one to reign back Legends rage, or else to join him in a fight. Time: Late 20's/early 30's. Has settled into a fairly peaceful life after her adventures. Happily married to Zelda and Malon. Understands the importance of hope and trust, and doesn't let her adventures turn her bitter. Neither does she let her skills dull.
And that's the cast and crew for now. I'm probably going to add more eventually, but I need to play their respective games first, I find it helps to really get a grasp on the character. Of these, the only games I haven't beat are BS Zelda: ancient stone tablets (can't get my grubby little mitts on it), Ocarina of Time (Playing it, can't get past the hell damned dark link fight), Majora's Mask (need to beat OoT first) and links awakening (started the remake but never finished it, planning on playing the original once I finish my alttp replay)

Hey Listen!
This is my Zelda sideblog to word vomit about my fav lil guys throughout the series. Here I go by Twilight and use they/them pronouns. I'm currently playing through Tears of the Kingdom rn and may post spoilers about it.
Anyways, here's a list of which games I've played (thoughts and word vomit included):
The Legend of Zelda: I've beaten the first quest! Did not 100% it bc this game was too hard for me to manage that. This forced me to have quicker reactions in games and I'm greatful lmao
Adventures of Link: I cannot for the life of me progress. I'm definitely overleveled for where I need to be, but Death Mountain simply bests me every time. I'm still trying tho.
A Link to the Past: I've played the opening, but that's about it.
Link's Awakening: Finished the Switch version! I wanna play the DX version at some point, but that probably won't happen until I play all the other games in the series at least once. I get a little depressed every time I think about Marin...
Ocarina of Time: I have played this game like three times. First on GameCube, then the 3D remake on 3DS, and then the N64 multiplayer mod. I plan on 100%ing it at some point, but I just dread doing heart containers and skulltulas. I wanna play Master Quest at some point too. Agh Link at the end of this game just makes me wanna sob.
Majora's Mask: Similar situation to OoT (I have the Collector's Edition for GC), except I never finished the original version. I've only beat the 3DS version. Recently started the multiplayer mod, but we've only done like 2 cycles.
Oracle of Seasons: I have the 3DS Virtual Console version, but I haven't played it yet.
Oracle of Ages: I played a little bit of this game, but it's been so long that I'll probably restart it when I plan to finish it.
Four Swords: I literally bought a used dsi to get this damn game. I've beat this game, but I've yet to 100% it. Kinda hard to bc it's not as fun playing it single player.
Wind Waker: Playing this game was such a treat. I played the GC version so sailing took literal ages but besides that, I rly enjoyed Tetra <3 tho Nintendo did her dirty. On the trend of beating games, I haven't 100% this one either. There's so many side quests that I simply cannot invest my time in. Like the Goron one? No clue what's going on there.
Four Swords Adventures: Ik there's a sub-fandom that rly loves this game but that's literally the most ik about it. I've yet to play it but I'll have to hunt down a copy at some point.
Minish Cap: oooo I fucking love this game. I haven't finished it yet, but that's because I got sidetracked by so many different things. I've wasted so much time trying to get all the figures it's insane. Plus this game is gorgeous <3
Twilight Princess: I played the Wii version of this game and honestly, I wished I didn't. Not bc I don't like this game, but because I did not like the motion controls. And this was the first time Link was right handed which is kinda lame. So I'll probably play one of the other versions of this game at some point. BUT, I adore the story in this game. Love Wolf Link and Midna. I literally cried at the end of this game, it was absolutely devastating.
Phantom Hourglass: I'm like halfway through this game I think. I'm not a big fan of it's controls or graphics, but I enjoy the follow up to WW. Also Linebeck's character development is very sweet.
Spirit Tracks: Once I finish PH, I'll play this one. Ik I probably don't need to, but I like following timeline stuff.
Skyward Sword: I played the Switch version and it's probably the only way I would've been able to get through it. I mainly played with motion controls but would switch to button controls for certain fights bc I was sick of struggling. Link and Zelda's relationship in this game is very cute. I also rly enjoyed the dungeons and getting more of Hyrule's history.
A Link Between Worlds: My second Zelda game ever, and I still consider it one of my favorites. Ravio and Hilda are some of the best characters ever. I can't remember if I 100% this game, but ik I got very close if I hadn't. If ALttP is as good as this game, I will probably love that game as well.
Tri Force Heroes: I've played some of this game, but I feel it suffers from a lot of the same issues as FS since no one ik has this fucking game. Have I finished it? No. Will I? If I can find two people to suffer through this game with me. I enjoy that the game doesn't take itself too seriously and has a bunch of fun outfits, but that's all I can rly say about it.
Breath of the Wild: My first Zelda game!! I've spent almost 500 hours in this game and still haven't 100% it. I'm at like 86% with just 150ish koroks left but now that TotK is out, it will be a while before I touch the game again. I fucking adore this game (although I hated it at first) and the relationship between Zelda and Link is just. Mwah. Mipha, Sidon, and Urbosa are my favs from this one <3
Tears of the Kingdom: I've been playing this since release day and have been loving it! It definitely fixes a lot of the weird quirks BotW had, but I'm finding I have more issues with this game so far. I'm at around 130 hours with 3 dungeons done so far, but I'll likely dive deeper into my thoughts once I finish the game.

44. Hardest sidequest in the series?
I'm not a sidequest completionist so there are probably a bunch of ones I found to be too much of a pain to do... but shoutout to the Big Poe hunt for the 4th bottle in OoT: I suck at horseback archery, I suck at shooting moving targets, I suck super major hard at the intersection of both, bye.
45. Best sidequest in the series?
After a whole lotta thought, I'm gonna give kudos to OoT's Gold Skulltula hunt. The rewards are useful even if you only collect a portion of them, there are clear and unmistakable audio cues, the map thoroughly documents locations you've cleared out, and they're often hidden in creative ways (and no cheap-outs like "kill a miniboss and three collectables pop out"). It just hasn't been the same since 😆
46. Favourite remake/remaster (Ocarina of Time 3D, The Wind Waker HD, Link's Awakening for the Switch)?
To be an enormous nerd, it is actually Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for packing the already content-filled game with MORE CONTENT. DLC CONTENT. CONTENT NO ONE ASKED FOR. CONTENT THAT YOU WON'T FINISH AND HAVE TO MAKE SPREADSHEETS OVER. GIVE IT TO MEEE (yeah I didn't finish it either.)
47. Most fulfilling Zelda game?
Gonna have to be Breath of the Wild because of the sheeeeer amount of things you can accomplish, especially if you like exploring. Like pwning enemies with a huge arsenal of tools? Like solving a buttload of puzzles? Like being ADHD-distracted collecting shiny things? Like hiking? Like hunting? Like being a nature photographer? Like playing dress-up? Like being a gourmand? Hi there! I'm Neko, and I found your post as a reblog from a friend of mine. I've played all of the 3D zelda games, and I write fanfics for the series. I'll answer these as best I can!
1: I've never really thought about it, but if I were to do so, I would put Skyward Sword in Spring, Breath Of The Wild in Autumn, Ocarina of Time in Summer, and Twilight Princess in winter.
2: Assuming you mean 2D as pixelated. I haven't played any of the 2D retro titles (pretty much any of the pixelated ones), however I have played all of the 3D top-down ones. I'm gonna pick one of those, if that's okay? Defo either Link Between Worlds or Spirit Tracks.
3: Skyward Sword! She's SO FRICKIN' CUTE.
4: That's a really hard one. Of the ones I've played, I'd say Phantom Hourglass.
5: I cannot justify picking just one soundtrack, so I'll pick out a few of my favourites instead. Colgera's battle theme (ToTK), Ganon's battle theme (OoT, That 23/16 time signature is insane and I love it), Yuga Ganon battle theme (ALBW, same reason, song is set to 7/8 time signature and it's just as insane), Tarrey Town theme (BoTW), Tal Tal Heights (Link's Awakening Remake), and so many more that elude me.
6: Nope! Bring it on, I love a challenge!
7: There are too many to list, but there is one that I love that others don't. That being the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time. Most people hate it because it's confusing, but I saw it as an experience. And that experience was fucking good, for me anyway.
8: Spirit Tracks for sure. The music, the story, I love it. The controls are not fun, and using the flute was fun if flawed, but everything else makes that tolerable.
9: Hmmmm... I'm gonna go with Tingle on this one.
10: The hookshot! It can get you to many places, and it has been a staple in traditional zelda games! So fun shooting it out and then zipping to the place it sticks.
11: That ones a toss up. I love all of his incarnations. I think Wind Waker is top due to him actually having some sort of humanity. He just wanted what was best for his people, and I can understand his plight. However, the way he went abouy it was wrong.
12: Ocarina of Time. It was the first Zelda game I ever played. And I was enthralled the entire time. Since then, I have managed to play every 3D Zelda game up to now, and it's my favourite franchise.
13: Breath of The Wild. The character designs and lore is incredible. Not much more to say there, really. Nintendo did an amazing job with this entry, and the one after it too.
14: Master Sword. No question.
15: Gerudo Desert, specifically the one from Breath of The Wild.
16: I don't really have one, they're all great.
17: Twilight Princess. It's my favourite in the series for a reason, and atmosphere is a big factor.
18: Again, Twilight Princess. Quite the dark game, especially in contrast to other entries.
19: Same as above, for the same reasons.
20: Same as above.
21: Skyward Sword! The painterly style is fucking awesome. If you're further away from an object, the shader makes the object look watercolored. They improved that effect in the HD remaster on switch, and it's beautiful.
22: I don't really have a favourite. They're all good!
23: Spiritual Stones please.
24: Either Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess for items.
25: Midna.
26: Spirit Tracks.
27: Breath of The Wild. Mainly cause it pertains to being a breath of fresh air for the series as a whole with it being open world, and the whole place being mostly wilderness at this point.
28: Skyward Sword, up to a point.
29: Hookshot!
30: Ocarina of Time title theme.
31: City In The Sky from Twilight Princess. The entire dungeon is the "I am confusion" gif.
32: Breath of the Wild.
33: Mix of both. It wouldn't be a Zelda game without either.
34: Hmmm... That's a tough one. I think overall I might have had the most trouble with the second Ganon battle that takes place within Hyrule Castle in Echoes of Wisdom.
35: I didn't really have much issue with any of them except for Demise in Skyward Sword. Took me a little while to learn his patterns.
36: that one's between Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Both cinematic games, and both incredible in their own way.
37: I have no idea. If I had to give an answer, the Likelike's are weird.
38: The Dead Hand, as well as the ReDeads and Gibdos from Ocarina of Time. Both EXTREMELY creepy.
39: Echoes of Wisdom.
40: Tingle.
41: I have three. Song of Storms, Serenade of Water, and Requiem of Spirit.
42: The Couple's Mask.
43: Goron Mask.
44: The Anju and Kafei quest.
45: Tarrey Town.
46: Skyward Sword HD
47: Each game fulfills something different for me, and so I can't say that any one game is the most fulfilling for me.
48: I love the one incorporated in Breath of The Wild and Tears of The Kingdom. Amazing shading style that blends Cel shading with semi-realistic graphics.

Order of Play: Timeline Order
New fan wondering where the hell to start in a series that's been going on for 36 years, or a long time fan looking for a fun way to play through the games? While I'd argue there's no wrong way to get into The Legend of Zelda franchise, I'm going to break down a few ways I'd suggest playing through the games, starting with the confusing, yet still fun timeline order.
What's so confusing about timeline order you ask? Most veteran Zelda players understand- the story of the games does not go in release order, and after the fourth game in the timeline, Ocarina of Time, the timeline splits into 3 different paths. If you're following timeline order, you can pick and choose how you want to handle the split, but I'll go over some suggestions for the smoothest story order.
Buckle up, we've got 19 main titles to get through, and even a few spinoffs.
The first 4 games are pretty easy to follow. To follow timeline order, start with Skyward Sword, either the 2011 version on the Wii, or the recent HD remake on the Switch that dropped in 2021 (I'd recommend the Switch copy personally due to better motion controls, as well as the ability to turn off motion controls all together).
The Minish Cap comes next, which you can get a physical copy on the Game Boy Advance or a digital copy off of the Wii U e-shop (Warning- Wii U e-shop does close in March 2023 so get it while you still can- or emulate it if you're able to). Sticking with Game Boy Advance games, Four Swords comes next in the timeline. I did say that the first four games are pretty straight forward, but Four Swords is a little odd. For the Game Boy Advance version, you'd have to purchase A Link to the Past with the Four Swords game attached to it (it was a two games in one cartridge situation). The downside to playing the GBA version though is it does require you to play it as a multiplayer, so unless you have a friend with the game too, and a link cable, you won’t be able to play. There was a digital version available on the 3DS e-shop that allowed for single player use, however it is no longer available there. Again, I'd suggest emulating, or even in this case just watching a play through of Four Swords, since it is harder to get your hands on compared to other games in the franchise.
The last game in the starting timeline section is the one that breaks it all: Ocarina of Time. Considered by many as the best game in the series, Ocarina of Time is thankfully available on multiple platforms, including the N64, the Wii U e-shop (until March 2023), and the Switch N64 Online package. For those who prefer updated graphics and controls, there is even a remake of the game for the 3DS. However, since this is where the timeline splits, I'm going to suggest something a little weird: Play Ocarina of Time, and when you get to the final boss fight against Ganondorf, die. Save the game, let him kill Link, and then set the controller down. Now pick up A Link to the Past, the first game in the Defeated Hero timeline.
Yes, you heard that right, the Defeated Hero timeline. Nintendo created a timeline where the hero, Link, fails. Get comfy here, because the Defeated Hero timeline has the most games in it.
After A Link to the Past (which is available on the SNES, Game Boy Advance, Wii U and 3DS e-shops until March 2023, and the Switch's SNES Online membership) things stay confusing. The official timeline can't decide if Link's Awakening or the Oracle games comes next. It doesn't matter that much in all honesty, so I'd suggest playing them in whatever order you can get them. Link's Awakening might be the easiest to get ahold of, since it was recently remade for the Switch, but it is also available on the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color, as well as the 3DS e-shop (until March 2023). Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages are also available for the Game Boy Color, but I'd suggest buying them on the 3DS e-shop while you still can (March 2023).
I hope you enjoyed A Link to the Past, because you'll be returning to that version of Hyrule for the next game, in the timeline, A Link Between Worlds. This is not a direct sequel though. The story takes place 100 years after A Link to the Past, with a different Link and Princess Zelda. Available on the 3DS, this game is pretty easy compared to other games in the Defeated Hero timeline, so consider this a nice break. Well, this and Triforce Heroes, the next game in the timeline, and another 3DS title.
Right towards the end of the Defeated Hero timeline, you're finally at the first game released: The Legend of Zelda. Available on the NES, the Wii U digital e-shop, the 3DS digital e-shop (both until, you guessed it, March 2023), and the Switch's NES Online membership, this game is not hard to get a copy of. Be careful not to name yourself Zelda though, unless you want to do the second quest which is notably much harder. Still not as difficult as the last game on the Defeated Hero timeline.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is easily the hardest game in the franchise, and is more of a side-scroller than a top-down perspective adventure. Available on all of the same systems as the original Legend of Zelda, Zelda II is easy to get your hands on, but not as easy to complete (I cannot tell you how many times I died playing through the first dungeon alone).
Remember how I said to die in Ocarina of Time? Boot that game back up and kick Ganon's ass. Beating Ocarina of Time splits the timeline again, and spoilers for a 24 year old game, but Zelda sending Link back in time creates a timeline where he continues his life as a child, and one where the hero no longer exists, due to him being sent back in time.
Confused yet? There's a reason why I said things can be confusing playing in timeline order.
We're going to follow the child timeline next, since the next game in that order follows the same Link from Ocarina of Time. The first game in the child timeline is Majora's Mask, which is available on all of the same consoles as Ocarina of Time, including it's own 3DS remake. Only thing is, if you're going to play it on the N64, you will need the expansion pack for the console itself in order to play.
The second game in the child timeline takes place about 100 years after the events of Majora's Mask. The only main series T-rated Legend of Zelda title so far, Twilight Princess. Duel released on the GameCube and Wii back in 2006, and then released again as an HD remake in 2016 for the Wii U, Twilight Princess continues with the darker story themes introduced in Majora's Mask. For all of my fellow left-handed people out there, I highly recommend either the GameCube or the Wii U version over the Wii (I struggled with the right-handed motion controls the Wii forced me to use, but have been doing much better with the left-handed Wii U combat).
The last game in the child timeline is Four Swords Adventures. Available only on the GameCube, this game is another difficult one to get your hands on if you don't own a GameCube or Wii, so if possible, I'd suggest emulating it, watching a playthrough, or even picking up the two-part Four Swords manga as a solid substitute. I will say though, Four Swords Adventures is one of my favorite Legend of Zelda games gameplay wise, so if you have a system to do so, I highly suggest playing through it.
Remember that timeline Link abandoned after Zelda sent him back in time at the end of Ocarina of Time? If you're wondering how it's doing without a hero, let me be the first to tell you that all of Hyrule is now underwater in the forgotten Adult timeline.
Wind Waker sends Link on a journey on the Great Sea, sailing around on a boat to explore the islands that still exist after Hyrule flooded. Available on the GameCube, and also released as an HD remake on the Wii U, this cartoon style game had mixed reactions at the time of it's release, but has since grown into a classic Legend of Zelda title that earned itself a direct sequel: Phantom Hourglass. Available on the DS and the Wii U e-shop (you already know what I'm going to say- until March 2023), this is actually one game I'd recommend getting the DS version of if possible for my left-handed folks. The Wii U digital copy is cheaper, but all of the screen options that focus on using the stylus are for right-handed people.
My same advice goes for those needing a copy of the final game in the adult timeline, Spirit Tracks. Just like Phantom Hourglass, this game is available on both the DS and the Wii U e-shop (until March 2023). However, the DS copy of this game usually runs higher than Phantom Hourglass, so I'd suggest getting the Wii U version if money if your main worry and just adapting to the screen setup (That's what I'm doing because I'm a broke college student, and it's working fine).
Three timeline splits and 18 out of the 19 main series games down and I can hear you all asking "But Rose, where is Breath of the Wild?" It's here at the end of every timeline. I'm not kidding, Nintendo couldn't figure out where it fit, so they threw it at the end of every timeline. Honestly though, saving Breath of the Wild for last is probably the best if you're trying to get into The Legend of Zelda franchise, since it is so different gameplay wise to any other Zelda game. It's available on both the Wii U and the Switch (I've played it on both, apart from some slight lagging issues in puddles on the Wii U version, both work really well).
I mentioned two spins offs, and those are Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors 2: Age of Calamity. For Hyrule Warriors, I would suggest getting the Definitive Edition, since it includes everything from both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game (available on the Switch). Based on the collection of characters in the game, if you decide to play it, I would save it until either before or after Breath of the Wild, since characters from all three timelines do appear in it. As for Age of Calamity, it does serve as a non-canon prequel to Breath of the Wild. Even though it technically takes place before Breath of the Wild, save it for last so you can fully appreciate your time with the characters in the game.
Okay, 21 games down, and a million left off. The big question is, do I recommend playing the games this way? Short answer: No. Long answer: It's complicated (just like the timeline).
Timeline order can be a fun and creative way to sit down and work your way through the games, and as a long time Legend of Zelda fan with access to every game in this lineup, I would consider going through the games like this. However, if you are new to the franchise, or don't have easy access to every game, or get stuck on one that's too difficult (looking at you Zelda II), then this way can make it feel like you have to complete a game, or wait until you buy one of the harder to find games before continuing on to the next one. While Skyward Sword is a decent starting game (more on that later), it's not the game I'd suggest to people first.
Well now you're probably wondering why you read through all of that just for me to tell you not to do everything I outlined. My goal here is to present different ways of plaything through the games. If you're like me and care more about lore and story over gameplay, then timeline order could work for you! But everyone is different, and if I'm trying to convince as many people as I can to play through the games, I would not suggest timeline order.
So what order do I suggest? Good question, with an answer that'll come in another long ass post sometime in the near future.

Remakes. Less of them for the big stuff, please. More ports, please. More remakes of bad or flawed games, please.
I know I'm not alone on this, but we really need more remakes of games that had potential but failed to live up to them or which like, actually have *really* big problems in properly porting them or whatever instead of remakes of games that were already good and could feasibly be ported already.
More remakes of stuff like Mega Man X7, which could have been a good game but needed some more fine tuning with the movement and a few other large overhauls here and there, and stuff like System Shock (which actually is getting one btw!), wherein the control scheme of the original kind of is actually a problem when it comes to the thought of even considering porting it to consoles!
Less remakes of stuff like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (no really why did those games get remakes, like they didn't even at least remake Platinum they remade those ones instead???), The Last Of Us, Advance Wars, Luigi's Mansion, Pac-Man World, Link's Awakening etc.!
Good ports help preserve a game's legacy. Remakes try to change it. And often, they do so in ways that hurt the game's legacy. Sonic Adventure DX is kind of uh... both, iirc? It's re-using some code from the original, redoing a lot of the assets, and uh, it's kind of really bad what it did to the original game honestly, and forever has hurt Sonic Adventure 1's reputation.
Also take Metroid: Samus Returns. Technically plays better than Metroid 2 in a lot of ways, but in many ways missed the point, of the atmosphere, of the seemingly-intended messages that a lot of people miss because they think a Gameboy game surely couldn't *intentionally* be doing environmental storytelling when it has less enemies later on despite having far too many enemy types for it to be a mistake because goodness me you can't really easily fit that many large sprites in a Gameboy game and tell me that they simply ran out of enemy types to use for later areas, etc., but whoops, that's the version most people are gonna remember now!
...at least that was on a system that already had Metroid 2 available in its original form though, so I guess I can only complain so much. But I'm telling ya, if Nintendo ports Samus Returns to Switch some day, they'd *better* include the original with it too, or I will be mad. But, ah, they didn't do that for Link's Awakening from what I recall, so I somehow doubt they would do it here either.
...I feel like there'd been some other game I'd wanted to talk about earlier today but I honestly forget what it was, so I decided to talk about this instead.

Hi I adore your art style, it's so... I don't know what word I'm looking for, cheerful? I mean there's a very happy vibe to your lines and colors and I'm definitely a fan of it. Seeing new posts always makes my days brighter! Which Loz is your favorite game personally? Which ones have you played?
O!! Cheerful is such a nice word for it. I try to make art so that you look at it and go “I feel joy.” Glad to know it’s working out.
And let’s see... Twilight Princess holds an extremely special place in my heart, so I cant pick any else for my top most fav.
However gameplay wise, I think my favourite is either A Link between worlds or Link’s awakening (remake)!

So here’s the thing, i actually like the artstyle of the sinnoh remakes and am hype for brilliant diamond since diamond is my fav gen 4 game ((yes really)) but at the same time i might be biased because i still think a lot of gamecube games look good y’know? ((You will never convince me that mario sunshine and star fox assault look bad))
I personally don't like the artstyle but I want to stress this isn't an issue with the artstyle it's the fact the graphical quality is bad for the current generation we are in. It's one thing to look back on older games and say "they look good" because even if you don't think that you're only comparing them to graphics of that time you're subconsciously doing that. Mario Sunshine looks great for it's time and even looked better than some meh graphics from the wii era but anyone who tries to argue that the graphical quality of Sunshine is somehow better than say Breath of the Wild they'd be wrong.
Let's Go was a 2018 Switch game that has better lighting, textures and model quality than what we've seen from the Sinnoh Remakes so far and they are going to be late 2021 Switch games. That is not OK. That is a sign that these remakes are either not getting a lot of budget (Pokémon is literally the most profitable franchise in the world, they can afford to give a decent budget to both the Sinnoh Remakes and Legends, Legends also being made isn't an excuse) OR they clearly just didn't care.
Like I showed the Links Awakening remake which also had the chibi artstyle and its lighting and textures looked great so it's not the artstyle that's the problem (although I am annoyed that the first region that really went for scope, the first region that really tried to use the DS' 3D capabilities even when it was still a sprite based game gets a remake that's so flat, like that's annoying and that's a fault of the artstyle but that's not the primary issue) it's the fact that the game just clearly doesn't look like it got nearly enough time/effort/money spent on it and thats sad.
I'm happy you're excited, good for you, but I'm still gonna keep taking about the fact these games look worse than a 2018 game by the same fucking franchise.
But as I said if they remove HMs and give us the Legendary events that are no longer available in base Gen 4 I'll play the games and probably enjoy them. But still gonna point out the graphics are built one a grid when I've since seen clips proving the players don't move on a grid anymore so there's no need for the jagged cliff edges anymore 🤦🏻♀️. It's like they can't tell the difference between nostalgia (going back to Sinnoh itself is nostalgic, crappy graphics isn't) and just laziness.

I only have two more Star Pieces to get in SMRPG remake, I knew the game would be short since it's still a remake of a SNES game at the end of the day just like Link's Awakening was still a Gameboy Game. But man i'm not ready for it to end.
I'm trying to milk as much enjoyment out of it as I can, so i'm doing things I haven't done since I was just a kid in the 90's stuck living at my grandparents isolated country home for a year, and I only had Super Mario World, and Super Mario RPG to play, and like, a small handful of other games that were either too hard or too crappy to play for very long. I was also armed with a Player's guide, so I learned all the secrets of the game, and I know it like the back of my hand.
Or so I thought. There's so many obscure secrets and mysterious items with effects they don't tell you about. Convoluted treading sequences, a few shops with special rules, multiple outcomes for certain events. I kinda forgot how to get through some of them or what purpose some of these items serve.
At the rate i'm going though, i'll probably finish the game tomorrow, even with my stretching out the play time.
I'll be fair though. I've been playing with almost every ounce of free time I have. It might last busy people a bit longer.

Links awakening - haven't played, dont own it (though my dad might get the remake for his birthday 🤞)
Ocarina of Time - Played, completed (the first one I actually finished)
Majoras Mask - played, not completed, was in the swamp temple then fell down to one of the first rooms and lost the will to continue (for now)
Oracle of Seasons - haven't played, don't own it
Oracle of Ages - haven't played, don't own lt
Wind Waker - played, not completed, I've gotten up to the tower of the gods and have yet to continue (have it on the Wii u but my sisters are constantly on it)
Four Swords Adventures - played, not completed, I only finished the first level, then kept on getting killed by the zoras at the start of the second
Minish Cap - played, not completed, I've got the earth and fire elements and am in the middle of figuring out what to do next
Twilight Princesses - played, not completed, I've just finished the second dungeon, need to continue (same with windwaker, I'm playing it on the wii u but barely get a shot on it)
Phantom Hourglass - played, not completed, the freaking place of the ocean king can frick itself, it's only my third time going there and I hate it.
Spirit Tracks - played, not completed, I saw scary trains and freaked out (I think I might have gotten to the next dungeon but I cant remember)
Skyward Sword - played, not completed, I cant remember why I stopped playing, probably either the controls or I might have gotten to the silent realm and freaked out, idk it's been a while (we need a new motion remote thingy, as soon as we get one I'm gonna start again)
A Link Between Worlds - played, completed
Triforce Heros - played, not completed, dont go on my 3ds that much and everytime I go on I forget the controls and probably annoy the people I'm working with

So.....how bout that E3 Nintendo Direct, eh? I certainly saw some good takeaways....
Animal Crossing: Camper's Edition! Well, they had to get ya away from the city somehow!
The Link's Awakening remake is looking real good! And it's coming out in September! Sweet!!!
Oh so finally Luigi gets to go on vacation, but of course he gets the spooky stuff ruining it! At least the game is looking real good!
Yes!!! A whole new Olympic outing for the Mario and Sonic crew (and no forced motion or touch controls either)!!! This one I'm certainly looking forward to!!!
Congrats everyone, we did it! We got the closest thing to anything related to Akira Toriyama in Smash!!! Way to go!!!

Mod K here, willing to take a shot at this. Shared accounts have some weird rules. I know messages not allowed, and think asks might not be either. I'll ask Jumin if they feel up to it too.
1. Absolutely. Want the collectables.
2. Hmm, loyalty is a hard thing in this day and age. I suppose Game freak, as have played all the mainline pokemon games but lets go pikachu/eevee. Still, did not like the turn for monetization in S&S. To be able to gigantamax with friends or nearby people, you need Nintendo online a service that is $5 canadian a month, or $25 a year. It also blocks wondertrading. To buy the game its self is $80, closer to $90 with tax new. Gigantamax was supposed to be a selling point of the game, and you have to pay for it. Then maybe you want to do trading. You can get the free version of pokemon home, with limited features, most damning the number of pokemon that can be deposited. To do a lot of deposit and trading you could get +, sorry premium, for $16. And S&S was kind of like X and Y, not the most story heavy entry in the series, or solidist, but introduced some new pokemon and features. If the features they keep for the games going forward are paying for features that were once free, I'm going to be mad. Then they also gave DLC, $38 for an expansion pass. For a feature that would have been post game on a DS version. Or an event. I get to pay to visit new areas, with new Pokemon, a reward I could previously get for beating the game. So $90+38 for the game content at $128 then $25+16= $41 for a years worth of doing stuff with people online. And its the pandemic. Making it $169 if my math is right. Plus any tax I forgot.
Nintendo, you don't need to compete, you are already setting your own standards. Your known for making solid games. Breath of the wild rarely goes on sale despite being old enough to have originally come out as a WiiU game,it has not really come down in price over time. None of your big games really tend to anymore, and buying old nintendo games years later, tend to have some of the highest prices for resale value. You don't need to have people pay for features that were previously free. You are selling better then ever, you don't need cash grabs. You don't need DLC. People are paying $90 for it new, so just make a solid game please.
Which gives me mixed feelings on BDSP. On one hand, glad this region is getting a remake. I have felt that the DS antagonists and stories were pretty solid ones in the series, and glad to see the region getting more love. On the other hand, DPP the first DS game of the Pokemon series. The first time where you could trade over the world without travelling, the first time where you didn't need a link cable to trade between games. It really opened up the world of pokemon trading. The GTS had its problems. People asking for unreasonable trades, hacked trades, and really odd ones. But put a reasonable trade out there, and someone would find it. So it makes me feel kind of sad to have BDSP coming out in a time where a majority of the trading is behind paywalls.
3. Best is subjective to my ADHD moods. Some days I might say Horizon Zero Dawn, others I might say Fire Emblem Awakening, To the Moon,or even a final fantasy.
4. Fobia. I put the time in to complete it, but retrospectively it wasn't worth it.
5. None that come to mind right now, but I am refusing to get into Geshin impact. It looks good, have heard rave reviews, but I already have enough games on my phone, and feel sick of games asking me for money,as you might have guessed from above.
6. Hmm. Changed the most? Not quite sure what you mean. Plenty have had an emotional impact on me. Final fantasy tactics advanced I guess got me into tactical style characteristic of Fire emblem. And pretty into FF and FE. Which leads to things like crying over Zack Fairs death, and other amazing and sad moments. Sure its probably not the most well remembered today, but it stuck with me.
7. Again, not the most well known, but probably Jenne D'arc. A wacky little psp game that tells the most anime version ever of Joan of Arc. Featuring demonic possession, fighting both england and demonic warriors from ancient times, magical armlet transformation, animal people and elves that discriminate against them, OP archery skills (skydart anyone), and a giant purple frog. Among other things.
8. No fair. Soundtracks are pretty good. How am I to pick just one. Maybe just a pokemon one. Gen 3 music is my fav, and while RSE is good, Pokemon colosseum has a soundtrack that has just stuck with me hard.
9. FFBEX, or FEH. Not because I don't like the music, so much as to preserve battery on my phone. Mobile games in general.
10. KH union X was also ultimately something I put a lot of time into on my phone, and lost the file when it went down. So much for google play. Never picked it up again. (This was before accounts on it)
11. I don't tend to be good at shooters. Not great aim. So maybe the last of us, given how bad some of my stealth attempts could get lol.
12. I played to the moon straight overnight. Couldn't put it down. The emotions. I'm no speed runner.
13. Some of the DS pokemon titles probably. And maybe 13 verses (lol). I don't tend to get too hype anymore, but am looking forward to seeing Horizon Dawn Forbidden West.
14. I'll be honest, I'm cool without voice acting where they don't have it. In a reverse of the question, where would you want subtitles where they don't have them?
15. I think Bioshock and Assassins creed would make an amazing crossover. A major worldbuilding aspect of Bioshock is reusing and revolutionizing genetic material, and a major plot point of assassins creed is viewing history through genetic material. So Desmond Miles being an Ex little sister in the way of Eleanor Lamb, and so being one person who can take others genetic material without major long term physical side effects... Well more then already happened. Oh boy, what would both sides want to do with that. Or, the one time where rule 63 is plot crucial.
16. I try not to hate the character, but get mad at the creators for doing it to them. Do kind of get upset when they restrict me in ways I don't feel is needed (morgana let me out) or insult my other party members. But hate is a strong word.
17. You assume I talk to a lot of people. I also run a blog where I post pics from stuff I play. I have a variety of games some of which I have never brought up in convo. For instance, a series of unfortunate events. For movie tie ins, I did like them. The inventions were neat, the style between gamecube and gameboy was different, and I actually liked playing both of them. Except for the part where it switched to a first person shooter in the gamecube version. That part sucked and was mandatory for plot.
18. I don't know. Go play the sims Urbz Gameboy. Best plot to me. Starts with you being fired and ends with time travel. Bustin out had funnier dialogue options, and Sims 2 gba TV plot style was genuinely neat.
19. I want to play eternal darkness from the gamecube era. And maybe get that sequel the creator tried to make lol.
20. Maybe an older one, but my earliest one I remember was a GBA copy of finding nemo. Back when the levels were gotten to by codes you wrote down. That and his pokemon Emerald.
21. Idk, maybe 8?
22. I used to want to imagine myself in a lot of them, but I've grown up enough to know I would not like the rules and rights existing in most of them. Would Gaia, Spira,or any of the FF worlds be beautiful. Sure, but theres often a sadness in that beauty. Crystal Chronicles was gorgeous for its time, but also full of danger in its air. Would it be cool to see history through an ancestor. Sure, but not at the cost of kidnapping, brain damage, or recruitment. If I did find myself in one, I would probably explore, while trying to stay inconspicuous. Try out some of the food. Shoot, if I had a camera.
23. I'm sure theres plenty, but off the top of my head, the limitations of Noctis's teleporting powers.
24. Middle to casual usually.
25. Yes. Walk through walls and others especially to get the pokemon events in DPP. Pearl. One time it glicthed so bad that it was permanently night, and all the doors were permalocked. Had to restart from that one. Was sad to lose some of the pokemon there.

27. Yes. When you get attached to a character and they die. It works because the game has taken time to build attachment. And sometimes its just that emotional. To the moon was beautiful.
28. I kind of want the indestructible quality of their clothes. My fashion would be a lot more interesting if I were dressing up like video game characters lol.
29. Hmm a good story can keep people invested despite mediocre and sometimes bad gameplay, but there doesn't always need to be much a story to have engaging gameplay and have that be enough.
30. Atlus, I am begging you, give persona's 1&2's a full western rerelease.2 Eternal punishment only came out on the ps1, and the others came out on the psp. I'm playing on emulation, because I can't find the parts to fix it. Or even just take all the psp games with a bit better graphics, translate 2EP, and resell them to a new generation like pheonix wright. The story is good pretty good, the difficulty could have scales to cater to those who want old school, and the music is great. Leave that alone, or at least offer the option to switch like you did in ISpsp.
As for stuff that has never been translated, SMT If, that unofficially started the persona games. Or some of the untranslated Devil summoners. Speaking of SMT, get yours off the 3DS shop while you can, as the nintendo E 3DS shop is going down next year I think.

I think you're thinkin' the Link's Awakening remake but spot on and WW works too since both have that kinda style.
You're worry on this remake being too... well, just a remaster and not a remake- I'm right there with ya, or at least I am now since I hadn't put much thought into the reveal since I'm not nostalgic for 4th- your wish to see them flex on the remake is one I just have to agree with.
Ooh I like that comparison a lot because it echoes shit I've said on pokemon but in a way I hadn't thought to compare.
Pokemon SnS vs Monhun World in terms of "losing" content in order to polish a new idea where one succeeds and the other is pokemon not doing jack.
I said it more roughly, why am I so spicy and grouchy today about pokemon? lol.
On a grander scale I'll be honest and say a bit of what I said on my main.
I, by all accounts, should eat my hat and be proud that Arceus is happening since I literally said TODAY that I think Pokemon should mix things up.
But I'll be brutal and say you might be right on too little too late because I don't feel that at all.
I'll stand by it, I'll eat my hat, this is one of the things I've directly asked for.
But my stance has always been "Pokemon should either refine the hell out of itself instead of being lazy and copy pasting and cutting content and shoving one-time-use gimmicks in, or it should accept some risk and innovate"
They have kinda proven they have no interest in refining and would rather just cut content and play it so safe it loses me entirely- so I was surprised to see them do this.
I am glad they are doing this (arceus that is), but the game itself?
eh... uh...
Open world ain't enough for me to say they innovated, that's just chasing the current nintendo trend, the same trend that existed in all of gaming for years and only works in nintendo right now because nintendo hasn't really done it before.
And the game itself has nothing else that sparked interest in me- combat looked, well, Just bad. Real bad, didn't like that. So the two things they showed were "It's open world!" which by itself isn't much but IS a good step! and "Combat looks bad!" which is the wrong message to send lol.
I have genuine hope that Arceus is innovative, fun, and successful. It did not sell me on this first showing.
Between my two wishes for gamefreak, between refining and expanding pokemon or innovating and mixing up the entire formula- the former is my preference, but I'm glad they are at least TRYING the latter instead of doing neither.
My thoughts on the remake were kinda just nothing? Your words gave me more to say or think on than I had before readin' your take- my entire take was "The chibi models look like shit." because I think the chibi style only looked right in the sprites up to and including 5th gen, 6th and 7th gen used more realistic proportions on 3d models and I prefer THAT for models.
But I can't even visualize what any of the switch pokemon games look like without a google search so yet again, when it comes to pokemon, my perspective is obstructed and lacking.
I just think these 3d chibis look bad and wish they stuck with 3d well-proportioned models. The rest of the game looked... well it looked like what I've seen of let's go? Kinda "meh" battles and all? I mean this part isn't entirely the new dev teams fault but will we EVER see a pokemon game where the pokemon do their god dang moves against each other instead of just flailing particle effects at each other from across the room?
I KNOW THAT'D BE HARD, BUT WE'VE HAD OVER 20 YEARS TO FIGURE IT OUT!
So the 4th gen remake before readin' your take pretty much left zero impression aside from "ew, don't like those chibi overworld models. Shoulda gone half chibi xy or less chibi sunmoon"

Ok, I was expecting gen 4 remakes, but I was expecting them to be in the style of sword & shield, proper gen 8 games with gen 8 mechanics and maybe an added wild area, or, if failing that, to be Let’s Go style games. This certainly has let’s go style graphics, with maybe an even more simplified overworld art style reminiscent of (though not as polished as) the Windwaker remake. But gameplay wise? These look to be like, tile for tile remakes of the original gen 4 games, the kind of port that you half expect there to be a toggle switch to the original game’s graphics & sound because apart form that this just looks to be straight up diamond and pearl re-makes, for better but also potentially for worse. Hopefully they bring forward some of the rather significant improvements to those games from their platinum 3rd version, including the significantly expanded postgame features from the battle complex, or reschuffling some plot progression to reduce backtracking through the area’s very large routes with their too-frequent random battles.
Also, it’s not even developed by gamefreak? Like, they contracted this out to another company? That’s… I mean, gamefreak’s been putting less and less direct effort into the “main series” games, if this counts as ‘main series’ then we’ve hit the natural endpoint of that trend. But is ‘main series’ even a thing anymore? Will sword and shield go down as the last true ‘main series’ pokemon games? If so, that’s kind of sad.
To be clear, I don’t hate the look of these Diamond and Pearl remakes. The chibi, windwakerish, let’s goish graphics are, imo, a better fit for traditional pokemon gameplay, so if anything I consider them to be an improvement on sword & shield there, even if wind waker did that style much better. And game play wise? I mean certainly the die hard g4 fans should be excited for such a faithful recreation of the original games, but I’m left wondering how this fits in with sword and shield and the series as a whole. Will the available pokemon be limited to the original Sinnoh dex? Will I be able to transfer pokemon in from other games at all? What will the multiplayer features be like? If it’s literally Diamond and Pearl with a different coat of paint, why wouldn’t I just re-play Platinum instead, when that was already an objectively superior version of the same games, and by an even wider margin than most ‘3rd version’ games?
Of course, the big news today wasn’t the games that Gamefreak apparently haven’t been developing, but rather the game that they have been:

For years people have been saying the pokemon series needed a major shake up. I’m not sure I agree, I think the core pokemon experience still largely held up, and just wanted new pokemon games that maintained and iterated on the best features of previous generations instead of abandoning them. Features like the battle complex, pss, dex nav, your pokemon following you, etc. But many wanted something radically different, a dramatic departure from the staple gameplay elements that have defined this series since red & blue. Ditch routes. Ditch gyms. Ditch enemy teams. Reimagine pokemon from the ground up. Open World pokemon. Pokemon: Breath of the Wild. And this game looks like Gamefreak is legitimately trying to deliver on just that sort of major shakeup.
That’s not what I personally wanted, but it’s at the very least interesting. That’s at least differentg. It looks better than sword and shield. Certainly closer to what I’d expect from a big name switch game. Maybe not all the way there yet, and even in this little teaser there’s still some painful dropped frames, and the overworld pokemon don’t seem to be reacting to anything the character does, and I can’t quite tell if the draw distance is as ridiculously short as sword & shield’s wild areas, so maybe the game will still look like a mess. Sword and shield had problems in its early trailers and they didn’t get better. But there’s still up to a year of development time to go on this, and that’s if it doesn’t get delayed. so I’m not passing any sort of judgement yet.
I will say if this game is mostly restricted to the sinnoh dex, or even less than that, I’ll be much more forgiving of it here than I was with the sword and shield dexit controversy, because Sword and Shield really wasn’t trying much new in terms of gameplay, and the graphics and game balance didn’t show the sort of improvements from g7 that would justify the cuts made to what has been the defining feature of the series to that point, the pokemon themselves. Much like Monster Hunter World’s reduced monster variety compared to previous games was easy to forgive thanks to the dramatic and largely successful overhaul of the presentation and features of that series.
It’s way too early to say whether what Gamefreak is trying here will be successful or not. But again, it’s at the very least very interesting and, to me anyway, extremely unexpected. Maybe too little & too late to draw back those like @retphienix who have already drifted away from the series, and I’m not at all convinced that I’ll like either of these games. But yeah, at the very least I’ll be looking forward to hearing more about them as they get closer to release.
