Hi I'm Sarah.
I figured I'd introduce myself to the people who recently started following me. I actually haven't introduced myself to my followers in years I think. Oops. 😅 Better get to it then!
Hey there! I'm Sarah, aka onceuponawildflower. I've been on Tumblr for seven-odd years (ish). I am a lot of things all at once. I have to constantly remind myself to give myself space to love what I love without feeling like I need to justify myself to others, but I'm working on it. In this season of my life, I'm learning how to be soft.
I'm currently a baker. Last year I left a corporate job I hated and embarked upon a trip to Maui, where I interned at a biodynamic food forest and learned about organic farming. I went on to design community garden spaces for families in the city, and to work as a farmhand at an organic farm in southwest Colorado. I realized that while farming was something I loved and had a profound appreciation for, it wasn't something I wanted to do exclusively for the rest of my life. I eventually moved back to Columbus, Ohio, and started working at a well-known restaurant in town. It was here that I fell in love with my job. I've been cooking and baking my whole life, but then I was being paid to do what I loved. Pretty neat. I recently left that job and to take on the roll of baker at another loved restaurant in town, this one plant-based. So far, so good. I can't wait to learn all the ways.
When I'm not cooking and baking at work, I'm usually baking at home. I love making French and Italian food, but also Thai. I'm interested in exploring my ancestral roots through food, so I'm exploring Eastern European cuisine (Slovak and Polish) and soon, North European foods too.
Outside of my culinary interests, I'm also a classically trained musician. I got into school on scholarship for flute performance, but switched majors (3-5 actually, flip flopping between interests) ultimately to environmental and social geography (read: urban sustainability and conservation of natural resources). I still play, but not as much as I used to. I would love to be able to play in an orchestra again, but my real favorite instrument is the cello. That's going to be my next big investment. It's my spirit animal.
Additionally, I dabble on three other instruments: Irish whistle, folk guitar, and ukulele. I took German and French in high school, and continued with French into college, completing all levels taught and in my senior year, becoming my university's undergraduate French tutor. I love languages as much as I do music, food, and culture. I'm not always good at keeping up with it, but I'm trying to brush up on my German, Italian, French and Irish on Duolingo.
I am the girl who makes tea every morning and still manages to forget about 50% of the cups I pour. I buy more books than I read, but I love reading and the idea of whisking yourself away to a foreign land in between the lines of each page. I have a lot of house plants and I talk to all of them. I have a tendency to pick up the plants on sale (and on death's door) and try to nurse them back to health.
I have traveled across the country in my travels, which are usually solo, but have yet to travel abroad. Maybe 2019 is the year to change that.
I'm an INFJ and a type 4 on the Enneagram. I'm also a Huffleclaw or Ravenpuff, whichever you prefer.
In case you didn't notice, I'm really bad about rambling. I hope this has been a proper introduction to who I am but my inbox is always always open in case you want to ask me more.
Thanks for reading this! Have a good day. ✨
