we turn the page to a new chapter | mutuals meet cyrillo ♡
his hand rubs relentlessly at the scars on his wrist, turning tanned skin red as cyrillo stares up at the clear blue sky. the sun warms his cheeks, has him squinting and scowling, yet his gaze never leaves the aky above.
your wife died giving me her heart to keep your little one safe. did you plan for that, too?
he had. he discussed it with her as a possibility, a scenario to be prepared for; a small part of him always wondered whether or not she ever had to do it, and a larger part preferred to push the thought down. not knowing and wondering would be the end of him if he let it. though, now that cyrillo knew what happened after his death, of his wife's fate, he realizes the truth can be just as maddening.
she died without him, because of him. their daughter lived without both of her parents, raised by a valravn forced into servitude. he wonders how different all of their lives could have been if he hadn't deserted the army all that time ago.
cyrillo doesn't turn upon the sound of approaching footsteps. bronwyn did not save her biting words for a private conversation, relishing in his subtle discomfort ( despite centuries apart, it was disconcerting how well she knew him still ). he can only imagine the other is here to bring some sort of comfort, but the vampire would much prefer a distraction.
" i hope you aren't here to pity me, " he comments lightly as he slips his glove back on. " i made my choices. wise or not, i have to live with them. "
#oh that's painful#anyway pls feel free to assume friendships and don't feel like you gotta match my length!!#i'm a sucker for setting up a scene for your muse to walk into but there's never pressure to match what i write <3#interactions | cyrillo#ahh could work for the modern verse despite this stuff discussing what happens in his main verse!!#just imagine bronwyn meets him at his bar one day versus meeting him at the free army's hq#open starter | cyrillo

21, 22, 17 and 18 for writer asks!
Thank you for the ask! (This is the ask meme, just for reference.)
17. What trope is your favorite to write?
Can I claim "whump" as one big trope? If I start going into my top physical hurt/comfort tropes, we're going to be here for... a while. Ahem.
I guess maybe the overarching favourite is, not-at-all succinctly, "character who thinks they have to take care of themselves meets somebody who cares for them (and is horrified by past treatment that was normalised)."
I'm also such a sucker for Big Reveals of all sorts. I have to fight not to do a Magician's Flourish in every bit of writing. 😂
18. What trope have you not written yet, but want to?
Love at First Sight. I think I may have gotten close by intentionally trying to write this trope, but Slow Burn has always come in and stolen the reins. I want, one day, to write a genuine, no-crack "they saw one another and that was it" fic, and I know it will be so hard for me because my natural bend is "friends to lovers".
Related: a good reincarnation.
21. What do you do when you get writer’s block?
Depends which sort! If it's a scene giving me trouble, I skip it, write the next one and come back to see how to join them. There's a lot of walking/doing chores while going through the fic in my head, too.
If it's a run out of steam/muse issue, I'll read fanfic of that fandom with similar vibes/tropes/arcs to hopefully inspire the creativity again.
Most of my writer's block, though, is just "not enough time in the day" (see below) or "I have an hour right now but I'm exhausted". Sometimes setting a timer and forcing "just 15 minutes" works. Often it doesn't, and actually just makes me feel more miserable and less likely to try again next time. So... still working on this one.
22. When do you usually write? (day of the week or time of day)
Ideally: sometime mid-morning. I'm not an early morning person. My brain only wakes up at around 9am. The other ideal time is later at night, but after a day that hasn't taken all my spoons.
Realistically: I have most Wednesday evenings free. And sometimes some time either on Saturdays or Sundays. So those are my planned times for writing at the moment but... the best laid plans of mice and men.
