I learned my autistic masking in the Midwest/Appalachia cusp so when I talk I expect people to do that thing where they nod and interject with little "oh yeah i know dear"s. Which is the polite way to let you know they are listening (or pretending to listen). Except now I live on the Canadian border and people just fucking stare silently with full wide eyes and they mean the same thing by it
