i’m thinking fondly about how the zora are one of the oldest races in hyrule ( just as the gorons and kokiri are ). similar to the ancient matrilineal clan that the gerudo and sheikah descend from, the zora, the children of nayru, were a matrilineal society who took to the rivers and lakes over land. the domain is almost as old as the land itself and their allyship with the gorons and kokiri ( an allyship with the rito would come later ) just as old. generation after generation came the passing of power from mother to daughter, queen to princess as their kingdom grew. neutral as they make themselves to be in all political matters, they’re still a power in their own right
the zora haven’t been without their troubles though. near-constant hostility with the hylians plagued them for a few centuries and a decision for a ceasefire through allyship caused a portion of the zora to take to the rivers. and then there were the countless wars upon the land. even as they faced near annihilation of their home and kin, they’ve managed to survive. they’ve lost much along the way and continue to rebuild themselves -- for better or for worse, who can tell. even as they still cling to many of their matriarchal ways, some have been lost to time or out of survival
