any beam hcs i lovehim 🥹so much
I don't have much for Beam so far actually, so I'll make shit up rn LMAODSFK - Denji: Hey Beam, do you eat fish food pellets or Aki: Denji what the hell you're not supposed to ask stuff like th- Beam: I LOVE FISH FOOD!! FISH FOOD AMAZING!!! FISH FOOD DELICIOUS!! LORD CHAINSAW LET'S EAT FISH FOOD TOGETHER!!!!! Aki: -(Beam proceeds to eat handfuls of fish food.) -Yknow how Beam just swims in the floor next to Denji sometimes? I'd like to imagine that someone tripped over his fin by accident and he feels so bad about it after and blames himself
-Beam with top surgery scars.
-Beam and Yoshida would get along over their appreciation for Denji/CSM, that or ocean animals cause yea, shark and octopus
-Beam has tried to backhug Denji while the latter was leaning on a wall; it ended with a punch in the face but a very happy Beam cause he got to hug Denji -Not really a hc, it's an au, but YoshiBeamJi au where Beam is just a regular human that really likes sharks, and he works at an aquarium with Yoshida who manages the octopus section. Denji visits once and both of them are like GODDAMN I WONT HIM so when Denji visits their respective areas they both try to show off with fun facts about their animals -Denji leaves confused about his newfound bisexuality -Beam and Yoshida are really close friends here, like, really close friends, to he point where they're oblivious that they do stuff friends don't normally do (yeah Yoshida kisses his homies goodnight, what about it)(he does forget to say no homo though so) Here's some bonus human Beam doodles I did a while back!

Please, if possible, add alt text to your images. (Describe every image, please.)
I've seen people post before about how every image posted, ideally ought to have an image description. They generally get a lot of support from people already doing it, but also some objections, questions and even anger.
So let me first say: I understand that not everyone can add image descriptions for a variety of reasons. But, if i grab 100 random posts with images here it's lucky if one or two have a description. Now I know that not that many of you have some serious reason why you can't describe the damn images.
This simply isn't the case on other social platforms I frequent. Mastodon would be well above 60% described. Even twitter (before I left that hell-hole) had like 20% of the images described. Now both of these platforms have popular tools that will remind you if you forget a description, and frankly it's easier to edit descriptions there... so some of this is Tumblr's Fault. Tumblr make image descriptions easier and make a reminder!
But it's also about user culture. People here just don't think image descriptions matter. But they do!
I WILL NOT reblog posts if they don't have image descriptions. So I end up adding them myself, and frankly I pass over MANY posts that I would have quickly reblogged but I don't have the time to be everyone's mom and describe everything. So, I just do that for the really great posts I can't pass up. But having a description will make more people share your work since you aren't making work for us if we want to share it.
Why do I need to describe images? Because many people use screen readers and if a post makes no sense unless you know what's in the image your post is useless to all of those people.
Why do I need to describe art? Because people who are blind, and people with vision impairments also like art. My brother's kid loves my ant drawings. They're legally blind, but they can see if they enlarge an image and look close up, the description give them the context they need to understand what they are looking at. Frankly, I read image descriptions all the time myself when I find a post confusing, so it's helpful to... literal minded people too. And it just makes your post seem more complete and exciting. Why miss out on putting a neat description.
I don't know what to write! Imagine you are reading the post over the phone to a friend. What would you say "And then there is that meme with the guys in the hot tub, sitting five feet apart" put that. Even something short is better than nothing. Just explain the post for everyone. Since it's YOUR post you know best what matters most about the image. When I add descriptions after the fact they can get a little long since it's not my post and I don't know what matters most. OP's description in the alt text is the best description.
If you have other questions you can ask me. I'll find out if I don't know.
(Did you know you can add alt text to your images by clicking the "…" symbol in the lower-left corner of an image when writing a post? Having the description attached to the image is the best way and only the OP can do this, but I also often add descriptions in brackets [ ] when I reblog cool art, cats and ant stuff. So, if you can't add a description yourself, it's OK, there are people who will help.)

hiii!! your artstyle is SO COOL to me- as in sometimes i'll just stare at some of your pieces because theyre all so great. i was wondering if you were comfortable sharing your process when it comes to art?? i'd love to see how you do things!
Hi!! I'm sorry this took so long to answer, I hope you still find it useful. It means a ton to me that you enjoy my art so much! <3 It's easy to feel discouraged by the Invisible Hand of Internet Engagement, so I really appreciate your ask.
General thoughts (NOT rules, just things I consider or do a lot):
Things that appear one solid color irl can be broken down into multiple colors through artistic interpretation. I see a lot of beginner artists paint trees as solid green, when there's a lot of yellows, blues, and browns in there! A FANTASTIC example of this is jadenvargen, whose color use is masterful and I can only aspire to emulate one day.
Base colors are not saturated; saturation is reserved for pops of color and details
Shadows are purples, blues, and greens
Reference is your best friend!!!
So the nitty gritty for those who want to see: with digital art there's two main avenues I take. The first one is lineart, and the second is painterly. All IDs are in alt text.
My process for lineart pieces:
I always start off with a sketch; for this example I'm using one of my pieces from @/mylittlefusions (that isn't actually posted yet but will be later today) - a Grogar and Trixie MLP G4 fusion. I like to fiddle with brush selections until I get the effect I want, and then go slow on the lineart to make sure it's how I want it, so this can be time consuming!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been trying for distinct shapes; I hate when my art gets muddled, I feel like the end piece is less impactful when I don't put in the right amount of contrast and distinctive silhouettes. Just something I've been thinking about and trying to improve.
Then I add base colors, going for slightly desaturated colors. I like to use saturated/bright tones to contrast or draw attention to something. I put the base-base colors down in one layer and then add details as a mask layer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then comes shading!! I'm a big fan of a multiply layer set to cool tones like blue, so I usually start there. If I think it needs to be different I can change it later. In this instance, I filled the whole canvas in the shading color as a mask over the base colors, and then erased where needed. Now that the shading is done, I often go back and color the lineart :)
Last but not least is my favorite part, painting on top! The extent to which I do this depends on what I think is needed, but I usually at least paint on top of the multiply shading to add some nuance, i.e. the greener bits on the background limbs. Here I added bright magic outlines to pop from the more desaturated character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My more painterly style is a different story though! I use the same thoughts about color and shading, but I usually forgo multiply layers entirely and just do colors by eye. I still do a sketch, usually. Here is an example using my Lae'zel / Shadowheart piece.
The sketch is a disaster zone lol - but I painted below it using base tones, again desaturated. Once I feel I don't need the sketch anymore, I keep painting, making a new layer when I feel like being cautious about a change I'm making.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After I feel that I've got base colors down, it's time to get more contrast in using darker and/or more saturated colors! Then, like with my lineart process, I paint more details on top of everything else - reflections, jewelry, body hair, etc. I try to communicate shadow and distance with purples and blues, but I'm still working on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another example real quick, where i did my typical lineart process base work and then painted on top of the shadow layer and the entire piece as a whole:

Thanks for reading if you stuck around, and thank you for the ask, friend! ^^

A bit of a ramble below the cut 😭 Didn't intend for it to be anywhere near this long, but there's just a Lot of layers to this that I wanted to talk through
I feel really bad irt not often adding IDs to my art because like. I want to, but, ironically, my disabilities (my chronic pain which is especially bad in my hands, and also tbh autism and ADHD doesn't make it easier either, with trying to find the right words to describe things + ADHD brain fog) make it incredibly difficult to add it myself a lot of the time. This is made even worse by the fact that my two options for writing an ID are either right after I've made the drawing to post later (usually night time for me, within an hour or two of me going to bed), or right as I'm posting it. Neither are ideal as well, for the first one, I'd obviously be in more pain after just drawing. And for the second one, because of timezone stuff, I usually aim to post my art around my 8 - 9 am (5 - 6 pm EST). Unfortunately, due to the nature of my chronic pain, with it getting worse with inactivity, this is when my pain would be at its worst. After just sleeping. I take my pain meds in the morning with breakfast also, so they would be at their least effective around this time. I've also changed pain meds so now they're slow release, they don't immediately kick in anymore.
I used to add alt text more often, but it's really hard to get the energy to do it anymore when I know it's not only incredibly difficult to think of the words to do it, but also difficult to do the active process of typing it all up. Not that it wasn't difficult back then, I still struggled with thinking of words, but now there's more things at play. It was easier to get the energy when that was the only problem.
I know this is kind of ironic, as this post already has more words than an ID would. But truth is, I've already had to stop a couple of times to crack my knuckles and stretch my hands. This is still easier than doing an ID, because I don't need to struggle as much with thinking of the right words, but, still does make my hands hurt. Like, honestly, back when I was more frequently doing IDs, the fact that I'd need to do an ID actually stopped me from drawing ideas I had a couple of times, because I knew it would be too difficult to describe. I wish it was easier, I really do.
HOWEVER. I was planning on trying to my art 1 - 2 hours later. Bc while 5 - 6 pm is good with teens in mind, I think there's less of them in the HS fandom now. And now that I'm a little older, I think I'd want my audience to skew a little older anyway. Not that I'd be posting anything that'd be inappropriate on that blog, but more, most of my drawings have queer themes that are confusing on purpose in them, and I don't trust young teens to have the best ideas around it. However having said that I might end up starting a sideblog for more risky art, as nowadays I feel it'd be much easier to express queerness in that way, but that's unrelated lmfao. But yeah. Posting 1 - 2 hours later might make it a bit easier to do IDs also, because both my pain meds and my ADHD meds should've kicked in by then.
Funnily enough, I started writing this post right after taking them (a little under an hour ago now), and I was still struggling with thinking of words and typing those words. But of course it ended up being quite extensive, so clearly those problems have been helped lmfao. But, as expected, I'm now in a bit of pain, so now I'll probably rb like 1 or 2 posts and then just watch YouTube for a bit SDJGKSGD

tagging system
‼️‼️being redone‼️‼️
i realized that tagging things the way i didnt was not working for me so everythings untagged for the time being. I'll redo my tagging system but I'm not going back to fix old posts so this key will stay here along with the updated version. its going to be a while though
grass yells into the void - original posts
grass reblogs - reblogs
the void yells back - asks
grass does art - my own art
grass queues things - queue
undescribed- posts i create or reblog without image description
fav -posts i like a lot
animals - creatures i like
food - food
c!clingyduo the world - cclingyposting
dr who- dr who
mlp- mlp
tma- tma
(any fandom i post about has a pretty straightforward tag for it in theory)
media types are tagged. (for example #video or #gif.) this is not super consistent, my apologies.
Tumblr media
further tagging
as stated above, i tag posts that don't have ID as "undescribed."
the majority of my original posts have image descriptions in their alt texts, which I do myself.
we do not use a screenreader, so I am always willing to hear about ways I can improve the way i post things to make things more accessible.
I occasionally add image descriptions to things i reblog, but I don't do so often.
I have a pretty loose system for tagging potentially upsetting content, but if you ask me to tag a specific thing in a specific way I will do my best to uphold that.
original posts are tagged with as many different trigger tags as I can just to cover all the bases, but rbs are usually just tagged as the thing im warning for [for example- #spiders]
I may reblog posts reguarding political issues, and these will also be tagged as the thing im talking about for filtering purposes.
Tumblr media
active sideblogs
@ambiguousseagrass criaturas del mar 🌊 🐠
@ambiguousgrassstims - stimboards nd the like
may be more at somepoitn. shrugs.
Tumblr media
thats it bye bye

Just a question: how do you do your image descriptions? Just asking because the screen reader that I use* on my phone doesn’t work for your pics, but if I click on the image (in mobile browser) then I can see it - I feel like this might be because of the method of adding ID; I know there is multiple ways to do it. Either way though, can it be assumed that all your art is described? Thank you 🙏🏽
(*Might be of note that I am not visually disabled; I use the (iphone) screen reader so that I can tag things accordingly).
Damn it sucks that it doesn't work through mobile screen readers, I was told that it did- there's an option before you submit your posts to add alt text to an image, if you look there's usually three little dots on the corner of each pic that you can click on- but there's no point if it doesn't work for screen readers, I guess I'll do my best to do traditional image descriptions from now on. I try my best to describe as many posts as possible with this method but truthfully my adhd makes me constantly forget so. No they're not all described, a lot of recent ones are but not all of them no.
