I totally agree about the worldbuilding! And the cancellation is aggravating. They were renewed for a Season 3 for a few days and then Fox changed their minds; aargh! I like Firefly but cancelling Dark Angel, putting Firefly in its timeslot and then bungling Firefly even worse (out-of-order episodes, incomplete first season) just shows Fox's incompetence. That they managed to early-cancel Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, too...

You have to wonder what difference even more season, and possibly more than that, would have made on the trajectories of Jessica Alba, Jensen Ackles, Michael Weatherly, Valarie Rae Miller etc.'s careers.

The only reason I don't ship Max/Alec is that with Ben being Max's adoptive brother and Alec's biological twin, having Max have the hots for someone who looks exactly her brother is too incestuous for me (in a non-Song of Ice and Fire setting; I have no problem shipping Targaryens, 'cause there's no way to avoid it, really, and they weren't raised on our Earth). I don't think that's in-character for her.

I have the Dark Angel soundtrack on CD, so I think about the various songs on that, like "Candy", "Bring It to Me" and "The Life". Sometimes I think about them when doing unrelated things.

That's a great picture! Max and Original Cindy had some fun times in Season 1; while I like the new transgenic characters in Season 2, I do also miss Original Cindy and the other Jam Pony crew having more focus. Giving her a transgenic girlfriend could have given her more reason to be involved in the new plot besides just being Max's BFF (it would have been nice for the canonically lesbian character to have *any* onscreen girlfriend besides Diamond, aka a one-episode old flame who died tragically).

By quietly ignoring the transgenics' seizures and feline-DNA-based heat cycle in Season 2 like they had never been, the show writers missed a lot of opportunities to show how they affected the new transgenic characters. Alec hates being vulnerable, which the seizures would make him, and he'd want to hide them even from Max and Joshua. And if they really wanted to play with the Max/Alec ship, then it was a big missed opportunity not to have Max go into heat when Alec was there. Logically, you'd expect a male transgenic would react to a female transgenic's pheromones like a male cat.

Of course, then there are consent issues for both of them, so I'd hope they'd be prevented from consummating. But it was the early 000s and shows were less aware of consent issues, so it's actually kind of weird they didn't think of it.

More incorporation of feline biology beyond the heat cycle sounds like an interesting premise for a fic! I always wonder about purring and stuff, and just how strongly they prefer meat (Max eating the live chicken in "Pollo Loco" suggested they do to some degree, at least). We know they at least give off a feline scent some beings can detect, or Joshua wouldn't have been able to smell that Max had cat DNA (DNA by itself has no smell, I hope the show writers realized that). gosh, probably my favorite thing about dark angel is the world that's been built? like, the worldbuilding isn't perfect, but the premise is really interesting, i like the exploration of this very horrific trauma that max and the others would experience being brought up for the specific purpose of being super soldiers, and when the show touches on class divides in the broken society that they're in, it's cool. it's a world with a lot of potential.

max and original cindy! there is a part of me that does ship them a little, like i gotta be honest, but i also genuinely value them so much as besties. their friendship is literally so good, and it's the heart of this show.

max/alec. like, they have potential. i could write essays on their potential. i love how they start with this friction that gradually wears away into them starting to trust each other and be vulnerable with each other. had the show continued, they could've really built up a nice, organic romantic arc between them (but i guess that's what fic is for now!)

sorry, i am not a max/logan fan 💀 logan can annoy me a bit as a character, but that aside, i just really think he doesn't understand max, nor does he put in the effort to really try. that relationship was destined to fizzle out and die, and for both of them to grow past each other.

since the show never actually explored this, i think it would be logical to assume that the x5 twins like alec also experience the seizures, etc. i also definitely think there's a lot of weird biology going on in all of them, not just max going into heat three times a year. these are thoughts i'm thinking about for potential fics.
