Alright, since you’re sick and feel AWFUL, tell us your thoughts on how the marauders handle being sick. Who’s the biggest whinger? Who never lets on their sick? How do they handle when one of them is sick? Who’s baby? You get the idea 😉💛
Oh Katt I love you, I love this. Self-indulgence and hurt/comfort are two of my favourite things!
So here’s how it goes:
James: Doesn’t often get sick, but when he does it tends to take him out completely because he keeps going and going and going until he absolutely crashes and has to spend a week in bed. Sees illness as a personal affront when it happens to him and insists that nobody makes a fuss - but secretly sort of adores the way they all insist on looking after him anyway. Lawful good when recovering from an illness: follows a strict diet of nutritious meals and supplements so that he can get back on track as soon as possible.
Sirius: Self-sufficient to a fault. Like James, hates to make a fuss, but unlike James also hates his friends trying to look after him. I feel like it makes him very uncomfortable and he doesn’t know how to process it - but he would, after time, let Remus look after him, I think. Quiet and sad whenever he gets ill.
Remus: Remus is baby. Very good at being looked after by the others and makes no secret about how much it means to him. A wonderful patient - stays in bed when ordered to, and loves nothing more than curling up and sleeping for days to give himself chance to recover. Not so great on the nutritious meals, however, and would rather eat garbage. They all let him.
Peter: Biggest whinger. Fusses over a sniffle and will constantly be googling (I’m only capable of thinking in AU terms these days) his symptoms and asking James if he thinks his cough sounds worse than it did fifteen minutes ago. I can’t see Sirius having much time for Peter when he’s ill. Remus would try, but I think Peter would have such trust in James that it would fall to him to do the bulk of it. Through gritted teeth.
Thank you Katt 🤍 x

Can you explain what you mean by “Lupin's Pottermore bio doesn't fit with canon Remadora.”?
Ohhh boy, thank you for asking this question. I've been wanting to get this off my chest for a while. There are 3 main inconsistencies so prepare for a long answer!
Inconsistency 1: OotP According to Pottermore, the whole Lupin/Tonks thing kicks off with: One night when they lay in hiding outside a known Death Eater’s house, after a year of increasingly warm friendship, Tonks made an idle remark about one of their fellow Order members (‘He’s still handsome, isn’t he, even after Azkaban?’). Before he could stop himself, Remus had replied bitterly that he supposed she had fallen for his old friend (‘He always got the women.’). At this, Tonks became suddenly angry. ‘You’d know perfectly well who I’ve fallen for, if you weren’t too busy feeling sorry for yourself to notice.’
Then Lupin goes Full Lupin about it and, "avoided any further excursions with [Tonks], barely talked to her, and started volunteering for the most dangerous missions. Tonks became desperately unhappy". This all happened BEFORE Sirius' death.
There's a few things to unpack here. I'll start with the fact that "I suppose you've fallen for him. He always got the women," is a crazy thing to say to someone about their cousin. JK is a fan of the Tonks-loves-Sirius fake-out and it's understandable from Harry's PoV but a weird take from Lupin (*cough* especially if you also ship Wolfstar *cough*).
Next, in the final scene of OotP, Tonks is described as, "her bright bubble-gum-pink hair gleaming in the sunlight"- her hair is still working and she is specifically described as standing in sunlight, #patheticfallacy. "Next to Tonks was Lupin"- THEY ARE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED AS BEING BESIDE EACH OTHER. And then they start finishing each other's sandwiches sentences. Not the behaviour of a guy who is desperately trying to avoid someone.
Inconsistency 2: HBP After all that, Lupin goes off to Greyback Land for most of HBP. Pottermore says that around Bill's hospital bed in HBP Ch 29, "Tonks made a brave, public declaration of her feelings for Remus, who was forced to admit the strength of his love for her". This fits with what Pottermore has previously suggested- that HBP Ch29 is the first time these feelings have been discussed by either party since the "You’d know perfectly well who I’ve fallen for". Except here's the dialogue from the book: Tonks: “You see! She still wants to marry him, even though he’s been bitten! She doesn’t care!"
Lupin: “It’s different. Bill will not be a full werewolf. The cases are completely —”
Tonks: “But I don’t care either, I don’t care! I’ve told you a million times…”
Lupin: “And I’ve told you a million times that I am too old for you, too poor…too dangerous…”
Molly: “I’ve said all along you’re taking a ridiculous line on this, Remus,”
Lupin: “I am not being ridiculous. Tonks deserves somebody young and whole.”
Arthur: “But she wants you. And after all, Remus, young and whole men do not necessarily remain so,"
Lupin: “This is…not the moment to discuss it. Dumbledore is dead…”
Professor McGonagall: "Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was a little more love in the world,” This is not a "brave, public declaration of feelings for Remus"! And in no way does Lupin "admit the strength of his love for her"! It's almost the opposite, he can barely look at her. Nobody mentions love until McGonogall right at the end. This isn't a declaration of love, this is a follow-up argument from a conversation which has already happened, and which all the adults in the room are aware of. It doesn't fit with the Pottermore implication that this has all been repressed for a year- this situation has been well-known, and it's clearly not the first time Tonks and Lupin have discussed their relationship.
Inconsistency 3: HBP/DH The above scene happens on 30/6, and by 31/7, they're married and they both know she's pregnant. Even if you headcanon the unlikely idea that Teddy was conceived as soon as Harry left the room in HBP Ch29, 31 days is pretty quick to develop pregnancy symptoms at all, let alone decide the symptoms are consistent enough to warrant a test, and then actually get hold of and do the test. And that's just for Tonks to find out herself, she might have taken a while to tell Lupin. And it wasn't a normal 31 days, it was a pretty busy time in which you might not have time to worry about missing a period or sourcing a pregnancy test! So while technically yes, it could have happened, it seems a pretty tight turnaround to me (full disclosure: I've never been or tried to get pregnant, so my evidence for this is anecdotal/from Google. Happy to be corrected if anybody has anything about this to add).
(Also Pottermore says, "Remus realised that Tonks was pregnant," which irritates me because I’m pretty sure that Tonks realised Tonks was pregnant before anybody else did).
Conclusion Those are the three main inconsistencies imo. I vaguely included that “You’d know perfectly well who I’ve fallen for, if you weren’t too busy feeling sorry for yourself to notice” scene in Pluto because I quite like it (despite having to find a reason why Lupin would suggest that cousins fancy each other), although I had it be a catalyst to Tonks and Lupin having a relationship in OotP. I suppose I was trying to cover all basis/ have my cake and eat it, and sometimes I wish I hadn’t included that Pottermore scene at all tbh, but there we are. For me, Book Canon is gospel and Pottermore etc is a lesser form of canon, so the inconsistencies don't, like, ruin my life. They're just kind of annoying. I don't think they're huge errors or fails on JK's part, I reckon she overlooked a few details from the books when she wrote Pottermore, which is forgivable considering there's over a million words of the books in total. Phew! Glad to get that off my chest. Thanks for asking, have a fantastic week :) x

Top 10 Life Lessons Learned in 2021
2021 was an exciting year. There were some highs and some real lows and lots of learning moments.
As a Lifestylist®, I spend a lot of time observing and hopefully learning, so I thought I would put some of these experiences into words and share them with you. Here's to an even better 2022!
Just Breathe This was important in two ways. First, many of you don't know this, but I had a severe case of COVID in the early days that I still am having issues with. For over two months, I knew something was really wrong, but I didn't know what because, at that point, they didn't know what the actual symptoms were. I am so lucky that no one around me got it and that I was finally diagnosed thanks to a great doctor and ultimately slowing down. Second, I honestly started looking at things differently. I now appreciate more of the smaller moments instead of focusing on, the larger ones that, after everything, might not have even been worth it. I can honestly say that having COVID and living through it has been life-changing, and I appreciate more than ever every day that I am blessed with.
Turn The Television Off This is a new one for me. I am always afraid of missing something. In the last few years, I have almost always had the television on in the background and on SIRIUS in my car. My sister and her family were kind enough to invite me to their home in Arizona for Thanksgiving. For five days, I never turned on the television and didn't miss it at all. And it felt so good to not be worrying about things that I can't control. My nephew re-introduced me to Pandora and the Hipster Cocktail Party Radio - who knew I was a Hipster? It has really helped me get a lot more done, and I enjoy writing again. Get ready to hear a lot more from this Lifestylist in 2022!
Live in the Moment It's incredible how many times I have had to stop and just take in extraordinary experiences all around me. You may not have seen me share as many of those as I would like to. Still, I finally realized that it is more important to enjoy and appreciate those special moments while they happen. Thinking about what would get me more followers on Instagram or TikTok was taking away from what was unfolding in front of me. This week I'm trying to organize the thousands of photos that I did take. It has been such a joy reliving those moments, and I can't wait to share them.
Don't Believe Everything You Read I should retitle this how I almost screwed up Thanksgiving. My sisters and their family are excellent cooks - we come from a long line of people who love to spend time in the kitchen. My younger sister and I are very much alike. We rarely plan and go with the flow, so when it was time (a few days before) to think about Thanksgiving dinner, neither of us had a plan. I wanted to introduce my family to sous vide cooking, which I have become a massive fan of thanks to Chef Nick and Signature Kitchen Suite. So I bought them a sous vide kit and went online to find some recipes for Thanksgiving classics.
Even though they are at the top of the Google searches, almost every one of them was horrible and had a huge flaw. I don't even want to talk about the mashed potatoes - that will be another day. From now on, I will go to sources I trust, like Chef Nick and his recipes on the Signature Kitchen Suite website. I tried doing the sweet potatoes over this week with Chef Nicks recipe, and they were perfect! I'll be sharing some tried and true recipes on my website that I have cooked and tested so you won't be wasting time or food.
Seeing Stars When I started writing this post, I realized how many events that happened to me this year have been centered around the stars, open skies, and space. First, spending time with my grandkids again at the beach was exceptional, and we also spent a day at the Kennedy Space Center. We all learned a lot, and it made me appreciate the space race a lot more. Next, Beko Appliances took its newly formed Healthy Kitchen Council to Primland Resort in Virginia. They truly practice what they preach. Taking nature walks in the woods, eating produce grown right there, and talking about sustainability really opened my eyes to what is possible at any price point. Finally, finishing up this fantastic journey gazing at the planets and stars in the Primland Observatory reminded me how much we all have to learn. It is so essential to be guardians and protect the earth that has been entrusted to us.
Spending time in Arizona again made me realize how much I miss those Arizona sunsets and star-filled skies. I found myself getting up every morning before the sun came up. Enjoying a serenade from the owl that lives in one of the Saguaro cactus and watching the mountains change color with the sun. I'm going to make sure that there are more of these sunsets to enjoy in 2022.
Precision Cooking There is always (hopefully) tomorrow, and there is always a new product and appliance to try. I am fortunate to be involved with several appliance companies. The International Builders Show and attending the Kitchen and Bath Show have me always seeing the latest and greatest innovations which can be a blessing or a curse. Trying to cook on a range I hate for over 10 years that doesn't heat evenly has had me dreading cooking a meal or my favorite recipe. My dishwasher has been used for storage only for about as long. That is going to change. The Signature Kitchen Suite wall oven with a speed oven and convection steam has won me over, and I can't wait to have it in my own kitchen. Beko proved themselves to me with the Turkish coffee maker that has finally solved all of my coffee-making dilemmas. Their new to market dishwashers are more than I have ever dreamed of. That kitchen makeover at the Home Idea Factory is about to come true. I can't wait to replace all of those obsolete appliances. I have been putting up with wasting food and time long enough. These new precision cooking marvels have me excited about cooking again.
Family Style Being blessed with a close, loving family is something that I have always treasured. Still, now I appreciate that more than ever. Having my parents in their 90s and still enjoying life is a true blessing, and they are incredible role models. There is nothing more important than family and spending more time with them.
It's Never Too Late My mother is the perfect example that it is never too late to try new things. Being honored to work on a kitchen design for Signature Kitchen Suite in Architectural Digest was a dream come true. I'm learning that I can do things that I never thought would be possible. Learning about accessible design and how we can all live a healthier lifestyle is a goal that will be rolling over into 2022. I can't wait to learn more about Beko Appliances and all of the ways that they help make this a reality.
Discovering The Roads Less Traveled 2021 has been the year of road trips. I have been concentrating on styling clients that I can drive to, so there have been hours and hours spent driving back roads and through small towns, and I have loved with. I almost didn't take on a client in Amarillo because it was so far. Now Amarillo and Alexandria, Louisiana are two of my favorite trips. I have made many exciting finds and met many incredible people; I can't wait to return. Slowing down and not always taking the direct route has been a blast and the perfect time to wind down and enjoy myself for a change.
You Be You: Being True To My Brand I realized this year that I have been trying to make The Lifestylist Brands about what I thought everyone else wanted it to be. Instead of leading, I was following and spending a crazy amount of time on things that would not provide a reasonable income. To be honest, I didn't enjoy it. Twenty years ago, I fired all of my employees and shut down my three offices because I finally realized I wasn't happy. I wasn't doing what I loved doing. I'm finally at the point where I'm okay with not being popular, Lifestylist not being a mega-million dollar brand. I can't spend every day doing social media or setting up events just so I can get photos to share. The family and friends I have are priceless, and I want to spend more time with them. Riding horses and showing a lopsided pot in my ceramics studio that I have to rebuild are things that make me happy. So 2022 will be a refocusing year, and I can't wait to get started! Happy New Year all!

The Scoop On Grain-Free Dog Food
“Grain-free” is often a distorted concept in pet food, even though some dog owners believe that pet food identified this way is of special value. “Grain-free” pet foods were developed and marketed in response to what people were seeking, perhaps as part of a human dietary trend to avoid carbohydrates, rather than the actual nutritional needs of dogs.
What Does Grain Free Actually Mean? In grain-free dog foods, ingredients such as potatoes or rice replace the grains in the food. Often these ingredients have more carbohydrates than the grains used in dog food, or in the case of potatoes have a glycemic index which has its own effects (as any human diabetic will know).
There is also the sim-identification by most people who include corn as a “grain” to be avoided, when corn is not a grain – as anyone on a gluten-free diet can attest. A side note is that corn is actually a really nice food source, whether for people or dogs (not cats, who should be getting barely any carbohydrates from any source!) but that is a story for another day.
Blaming Grains for Medical Problems I am concerned that pet owners go to “Dr. Google” or chat with friends and come up with their own diagnoses and remedies for their pets’ illnesses.
I received a question from a lady about her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who began having seizures when he was 6 years old. She said that after hours of googling on the internet she found that corn (sic) and wheat were the probable reason, even though she had him on a premium dog food. She switched to a grain-free food and he never had another seizure, for which she credits the removal of grains – clearly without knowing that corn is not even a grain!
In any case, seizures are most likely an inherited genetic trait, or related to a medical condition. There is no logical way to tie seizures to any sort of pet food, nor to attribute the cessation of symptoms in two mere weeks to changing foods.
So is It Good to Feed Grain Free Food? For me, it’s not really a concern that people are making a choice for “grain-free” without fully understanding what they are getting. They are surely getting nice quality foods that are made without grain – so all to the good. I will say that people have a misconception that they are getting a ‘carb-free” free at the same time, as mentioned above. All dry foods need carbohydrates to be manufactured. While there might not be “grains” like wheat, all kibble, grain-free included, necessarily has “carbs” of various kinds, whether it’s rice, potato, or a similar binder.
If Grain Free Isn’t “The Answer” Then What Is? We all have a dizzying array of premium and “super premium” (whatever that means, quite honestly?!) foods to choose from. So how do we pick and choose in a way that makes us feel comfortable about the philosophies of the company we are supporting with our purchase, and the thought that goes into what their ingredients are and where they source them.
I guess this explains why I’m so happy about my personal choice of using Halo dry food for my dogs. It has been a wise one from those perspectives, since their commitment to giving back to shelters has been there from the beginning, and using only whole meat and no animal byproducts or rendered meal. They have recently gone one step further to choosing meat that is American-sourced, humanely raised and without growth hormones or antibiotics, along with non-GMO fruits and vegetables. In addition, I feed the canned varieties of Halo Stews made of salmon, lamb and chicken.
My dogs also eat dehydrated foods as part of their daily diet, which also contain whole meat (and also never any meat meals). These foods have also been proven to be more “bioavailable,” with the dog’s body able to absorb more nutrients because they are highly digestible, as is Halo.
I’d recommend that you should find also find companies that make “top shelf” foods and also have a heart and conscience.
