I always think of this one phrase I read years ago saying something like, "Every girl wants a bad boy that's good just for her" and it pretty much sums up the YA fiction books like Twilight etc. Dangerous monster falls in love and only you can tame or calm them or make them feel love. So you're special.
Now does this trope do some harm? Absolutely. I mean we've seen this even in disney with Beauty and a Beast. Why must a woman always fall in love with a beast? Or be the one willing to go that far? And not vice versa? Many can elaborate on this topic, but I think of it often when I see those stories be number one all the time too.
I think gender roles play a part. How women are always trained to see the best in their partner for love no matter what. But then again I understand wanting to take that trope back of saying hey, it's forbidden, but I want it.
It's a thing. A very interesting subject. Also ties into why MLM stories are mainly read by women, and BL dramas are so popular with women. Power play and identities all come into this.
my instagram explore page loves showing me those like erotic dark romance novel tiktoks and i really have to wonder: why do all these straight women desperately want to fuck a mafia boss
