Illicit Affairs
A/N: Okay so the ages and timing on this story don’t make much sense but just overlook that, maybe? I don’t know you’ll see but just try to ignore it if you can for the sake of the story. Also I know it’s been forever since I posted but it’s because I’ve been working on this series, so yeah. Pairing: Gerard Way x F!Reader Word count: 2,488 Warnings: I don’t think any.
Your Uncle Frank was one of your number one supporters through it all, and by far one of your closest family members.
You had known him since you were 13, as he and your Aunt Jamia (who was your mother’s sister) had met early in high school and had been dating since. Now that you were 20 and in college, triple majoring at NYU, he was once again your biggest supporter, helping you financially at every opportunity he could. You always felt so guilty for the thousands of dollars he insisted on paying monthly to help you get through college with little to no student debt, but he was insistent.
And of course you knew that money came from his now wildly successful band My Chemical Romance. You had been to a few My Chem shows, but had surprisingly never actually met any of the guys, besides Ray who you accidentally met while dropping off some coffee for Frank at the recording studio. You were actually a pretty big fan of their music, but you never broadcasted that your uncle was Frank Iero. That remained pretty private.
But here you were, driving to one of their shows for the soundcheck from Frank’s New York apartment, which you were staying at for the summer because A. You were taking summer classes and B. He offered to pay you to dog/house sit while he was touring, since Jamia consistently had work that sometimes meant she had to travel.
You pulled up to the large venue, showing security the backstage pass that Frank had given you, before being escorted into the main arena, where empty spaces for chairs lurked open, a few maintenance and sound people running around and fiddling with various things. You looked up to see some of the guys sitting down in a circle having a conversation. Frank noticed you almost immediately, getting up with a big smile and running up to you, engulfing you in a hug, and you hugged him back. “How’s my favorite neice?” He asked and you lightly laugh.
“Great, you?” You asked and he smiled back.
“Great.” It was funny to be shorter than Frank, only be a few inches, but still, making you the shortest in both the family and in most social situations. He walked you over to where everyone else was, introducing you in general as everyone got up to shake your hand. You already knew Ray, who gave you a hug, but you had never met the other three.
First was Mikey, who seemed shy and a little awkward, but was pretty adorable. Then came Bob, who seemed chill, and finally Gerard. You had to admit he was pretty handsome both on and off stage, but you pushed some confidence forward so you wouldn’t chicken out. “I’m Gerard.” He shook your hand with a kind smile.
“Y/N.” You responded, shaking it back. You could see your uncle eyeing the both of you from the corner of your eye, but you weren’t totally sure why. Was your crush on Gerard that obvious. You pulled away a moment, somewhat nervously with the conscious that at least your uncle knew, meaning other people probably did too.
You all sat down in a group as the guys began asking questions about you and what you were doing in school. All of them (besides Frank who already knew) were extremely surprised as you triple majoring, but you couldn’t help and notice how Gerard was fixated on you the entire time. After a bit of explaining stuff about you, everyone split up to go do their own thing. Ray, Mikey, and Frank all went off to begin tuning and testing their stuff while Bob did the same, but Gerard stayed back with you for a few minutes.
“Hey, this could be totally weird and awkward and not cool and you can totally say no,” Gerard began, quietly to you when no one was around, “But would you mind if I got your number? I mean I could ask Frank but your his niece so that might be awkward and-” “No, no, it’s fine.” You lightly smiled, as if to reassure him. You pulled a sticky note and pen out of your backpack, writing it down, “Here.” You smiled at him, handing it over. “But I would advise you don’t tell Frank, because he might, ya know-” “Yeah, yeah, trust me, I know.” He said and the two of you lightly laughed. “Are you gonna be at the show tonight?” He asked and you nodded, “Cool, cool. Have you been to one before.” You nodded again.
“A few times, actually, I’ve just never gotten to meet you guys.” You lightly smiled.
“Cool, cool.” He responded. You could tell how awkward both of you felt, each of you having the urge to keep the conversation going but it just wasn’t there. “So I should probably go and start sound check, ya know. But it was awesome meeting you, Y/N.” Gerard smiled.
“You too.” You smiled back.
“I’ll see you around?” “See you around.” You lightly waved as he jogged the other way.
You ended up excusing yourself and saying bye, with the excuse that you had more school work to do, when in reality you just needed some air as your mind continued to process the idea that the Gerard Way just asked for your number. He was so nervous and cute about it that in a way it made you all the more happy getting to know him briefly, but he was nothing like how he was on stage. The confidence that seemed to erupt in him was all wiped away as he just seemed like a nervous outcasted teenage boy in a band, which maybe to an extent he was.
Gerard, on the other hand, was set on the idea that he had just fucked over any shot he had with you. And from what you had explained, you seemed like the perfect girl. Not only were you absolutely gorgeous to him, but you were kind, funny, and smart. And you seemed to have some tom boy in you, which only made you that much more attractive to him to send him mind into overdrive. He wasn’t sure that the perfect girl ever existed, until you walked in.
And he was shocked that you were single. Sure, you had a lot on your plate and probably not enough time for a relationship, but any boy or man would be insanely lucky to have you. But there he stood, mentally punching himself at how stupid he acted. And ideally he would have gone and ranted to the guys, but the moment Frank heard he was interested in you, he knew he was dead meat. Frank may have only been 5′6 but he could pack a punch if he wanted to.
And besides, you were eight years younger than him. And while that didn’t matter to him, and clearly to you it didn’t either, that would most likely be looked down upon by most other people. “It’s pretty obvious.” Mikey came up to him behind the stage, “You’re just going to have to deal with the wrath of Frank eventually.” The two looked over at the short man who was clearly pissed in some way.
It wasn’t until that night at the concert that your worries fluttered away. You had invited a few friends, who were all jumping, screaming, and dancing as you did the same in the pit. Gerard had taken the crowd by his hand with ease starting with their opener, and flawlessly sang and entertained everyone. You were genuinely having the time of your life, and even when the show ended you were still riding high from the buzz of adrenaline that the show gave.
You ran back stage, giving Frank a hug and he hugged you back. “You guys did awesome!” You sighed out, still in awe with a huge smile on your face. “It was absolutely incredible.”
“Thanks, Y/N/N.” Frank smiled back down at you.
“Y/N/N?” Ray asked, with a confused look.
“Yeah, it’s been her name in the family since she was like two.”
“Okay, Y/N/N.” Ray smiled at you and you smiled back. You couldn’t help but look over Ray’s shoulder, seeing Gerard standing back with Mikey drinking lots of water, for obvious reasons. You briefly excused yourself to go talk to them.
“Hey,” You walked up to Gerard and smiled, he immediately looked back, putting his water down and smiling back at you tiredly. “You did awesome.” You preached, “Like, actually, you did insane.” “Thanks.” He lightly laughed, “Glad you enjoyed.” You nodded. “Hey Mikey.” You looked at the skinny boy who waved back.
“You did pretty great too.” “Thanks.” He smiled, saying goodbye and departing from the two of you shortly after. Gerard pulled out a box of cigarettes, taking one in his mouth, and motioning them towards you, a way of asking. You shook your head.
“I’m alright, thanks.” He nodded, pulling a lighter out of his pocket and lighting the stick. He took a deep breath in, letting the smoke come out through his mouth only a few moments later.
“So you don’t smoke?” He asked next, casually. You shook your head, “Smart.” He lightly smiled. “It’s pretty fucking annoying.” You lightly laughed.
“Thanks for the advice.” You smiled.
Only a few seconds later you were called out by the rest of the guys, sitting outside their tour bus and drinking some beer. You noticed Gerard had none, and opted for just some water, you doing the same instead. For you it was pretty obvious, you were 20 and weren’t of the legal age to drink. But for Gerard it would seem off to most people, but of course Frank had told you all about how only a few months prior he was an alcoholic and had gotten sober, so naturally you didn’t blame him one bit for skipping out on the alcohol.
“Hey Y/N, want some?” One of the guys on tour asked. You shook your head. “Oh c’mon, it’ll be fun!” The guy continued to insist.
“Nah, I’m alright.” You said. It was pretty annoying when guys asked you to drink, because you knew that it was to get you to a point of being drunk only to get laid. Or even worse, the fear that the drink could be laced. Either way, you weren’t taking a chance.
“Are you sure-” “Hey man, back off.” Gerard, who was sitting next to you, spoke, “She said no.” “I’m pretty sure she can speak for herself.” The dude smirked and fired back, thinking he did something.
“And she already did speak. She said no.” He said firmly, more aggressive this time, “You’re on this fucking tour because you’ve been hired by my band. So I would suggest you leave her the fuck alone before you lose your job, buddy.” Gerard snapped. The other guys eyes just went wide, walking away in surrender.
“You didn’t have to do that, ya know?” You looked over at him, and he gave you a confused look, “Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it, but it happens all the time.”
“Well it shouldn’t.” He sighed, “But you’re smart enough to know that. No offense, and this is not meant to be sexist, but a lot of girls your age don’t know that.” “Yeah, I know,” You admitted, “I’ve seen it happen one too many times.” Both of you obviously became slightly uncomfortable with the situation at hand, prompting Gerard to begin another conversation.
“So what do you like to do?” He asked, “Outside of school, of course.” “I don’t know,” You sighed, “I love to write, I have since I was younger. Reading goes a long with that, I’ve read comics since I was a kid too. I know that probably sounds stupid but-” “You read comics?” He asked, slightly shocked. You nodded, “What kinds?” “I started out with Marvel, since my dad collected Marvel as a kid. Then I got into DC, Watchmen in specific, I never got into the Justice League because I didn’t really see the relevance of it, but I liked the Avengers a lot.” He nodded and smiled.
“That’s pretty cool, ya know. Not really stupid in my book.” He lightly laughed, “I actually went to school to be a comic book writer.” “Really?” You asked, adjusting yourself in your seat and he nodded. “No way.” “Yeah, I did. But it was a rough time in the comics industry and nothing really worked out.” You nodded, understanding.
“Do you still do anything with comics?” You asked next.
“Yeah, I do.” He said, “In my free time I love to draw, I have this current project I’m working on, I’m not sure what it’s going to be called, but it’s like this weird super hero family type thing, but they’re all adopted, and this guys makes his kids a super hero team? That probably doesn’t make a lot of sense.” You lightly laughed.
“Not totally, but what I get from it, it sounds pretty awesome.” You admitted, “I think that would be pretty cool, and original. Which is something everyone wants when it comes to comics.” He nodded.
“It probably wouldn’t be hard to get it published now with this whole band thing.” You nodded.
“Well, if you ever need a second opinion on it, don’t hesitate to ask. Although I know it can sometimes be hard to show off your work.”
“I’ll definitely take you up on that.” He smiled. You got a vibration from your phone, which you checked. It was one of your friends, but glancing at the time your anxiety rose.
“Shit,” You muttered, “Hey, so I know we were just starting to actually talk and all, and I really don’t want to end that, but I kinda have to get back and-” “Hey, hey, don’t worry.” Gerard lightly smiled, “You’re really busy. It’s totally fine.” “You sure?” You asked again and he nodded.
“Yeah, of course.” He nodded, “Here, let me at least walk you out to your car.” “No, you don’t have to do that-” “Trust me, it’s alright.” He insisted, getting up and walking besides you under the night sky.
“It was really great meeting you.” You smiled up at Gerard as you two stood outside your car.
“You too, Y/N.” He smiled down. “This may be too soon, and it probably is, but I asked for your number after like five minutes of knowing you so I guess we are moving fast. Anyways, I’m rambling.” He stuttered a little, “But would you want to go out with me sometime.” You smiled.
“Yeah, of course.” You responded, “Just text or call me and we’ll work something out.” “Oh, okay, awesome.” He smiled. “Bye Y/N. Get home safe, okay?” “Bye, Gerard, and I will.” You said and got into your car.

It’s A Love Story - Part 5
Tumblr media
Part 4
“Is everyone ready to go?” Gerard called to his bandmates as he closed the back of the van. It was the afternoon of the battle of the bands, and a nervous excitement was running through all of them.
“Let’s go!” Frank cheered as everyone started piling into the vehicle, but (YN) lingered back.
“Oh nooo, we have to sit together,” she smirked as Bob and Mikey got into the furthest back row of seats. Ray already riding shotgun, even though he was next to useless with a map.
“Damn,” he replied with a smile as they got into the middle row.
The van was an early Christmas/birthday/graduation present for Gerard from their grandparents. Even though they weren’t going to be at the battle of the bands, they fully supported their grandsons’ dreams, and after a few emphatic dinner table discussions, they agreed to buy the band something to get around in, on the condition that all of the boys get their high school diplomas.
“Do you know where we’re goin?” Bob shouted from the back after they’d been driving what felt like forever.
“We passed that sign like three times now,” Frank chimed in.
“Yea, we just gotta go north and then… wait, no! This is the exit! Take this exit!” Ray shouted as Gerard swerved to catch the exit ramp at the last possible second. Shouts and grumbles of annoyance came from all passengers as they held on for dear life.
“Oh shut up,” Gerard said, glancing back.
“Gee! Brake!” Ray shouted, pulling Gerard’s attention back to the traffic they were about to crash into.
Gerard slammed on the brakes just before he slammed into the station wagon ahead of them and Frank threw his arm out protectively in front of (YN). As Gerard sat rattled in the driver’s seat, Ray glanced back to check on the bandmates. That’s when (YN) realized that his eyes were transfixed on where Frank’s hand had ended up on her knee. She froze, not knowing what to do.
“Everybody good?” Ray asked, still seeming to be focused on the other guitarist.
“You guys good?” (YN) asked turning to Mikey and Bob behind them, in hopes it would pull Ray’s attention away from what Frank was doing. That’s when she caught Frank’s eye. She glanced down at his hand before nodding slightly toward Ray. Frank’s eyes went wide as he snatched his hand away.
“Close one,” (YN) whispered to Frank when they were back on their way.
“Sorry,” he winced.
“It’s fine,” she smiled.
When they finally arrived at the venue hosting the competition, they were given a schedule of when they’d go on, as well as a table where they could sell merch, meet the other bands, as well as any potential fans. (YN) set up the box of CDs that had been recorded in the garage, and arranged the shirts that she’d designed and felt her nerves starting to build. She hoped the competition would go well for the guys, which would drive people to look at the merch. If her shirts were liked well enough that fans would buy them, it would prove to the guys that she could be a help to My Chem and she could remain involved.
The guys were one of the first bands to perform that evening, and to say they crushed it would be an understatement. The crowd was in a frenzy, and as soon as they were done a ton of the spectators came over and bought merch. That’s when (YN) noticed the girls lingering off to the side, watching the guys talk to their new fans. Once the crowd dissipated, they swooped in.
“Hey,” the first girl purred, grinning at Gerard. “My name’s Veronica, and I just wanted to say you guys were really amazing up there.”
(YN) tried to keep from obviously rolling her eyes as the girls blatantly flirted with her brothers and friends. However, she was pulled from her thoughts when she heard one of the other girls ask if they’d ever consider dating a fan of the band.
Frank smirked and shot (YN) a glance. "Only if she'd been a fan from like day one, ya know? Like very clearly not just into me because of the band."
"Oh," the girl pouted.
"I mean, I'd be cool dating a fan!" Ray chimed in.
That's when an idea popped into (YN)'s head. "Hey Gee," she said, getting her brother's attention and pulling him away from the group.
"What’s up?"
(YN) had to do her best not to start laughing at her evil idea. “I don’t think you should be talking to these girls.”
“Wait, why not?” He asked, clearly confused.
“I see the way they’re looking at you and I can imagine what they’re thinking and it’s gross. They’re just interested because they wanna get with a band member, they aren’t actually interested in you as a person, and I’d really hate for you to get a reputation in the scene,” she smirked.
Gerard opened and closed his mouth a few times, speechless. “Not fair!” He finally blurted out.
“I'm just looking out for you,” she grinned evilly before he rolled his eyes and marched off.
After the remaining bands played, the judges deliberated, and the MC eventually returned to the stage to announce the winners. The crowd didn't go as crazy for any band as they did for My Chem, so (YN) had a good feeling, but she was nervous anyway. The third, and then second place winners were announced and then MC called for a drumroll before announcing the winner.
"And in first place," the MC paused for dramatic effect and (YN) thought her heart was gonna pound out of her chest. "My Chemical Romance!"
(YN) screamed with delight as everyone started to hug each other in celebration. Frank turned to her and she wanted to grab him and kiss him, but she could only smile before they ran up on stage. The MC handed them a trophy as the other bands came up to congratulate them.
A few more people came up to buy what was left of their makeshift merch, and (YN) imagined what kind of real merch they’d be able to make with the prize money. When everything was gone, she picked up the empty boxes and followed the venue’s instructions on where to dump them out back. A few people were lingering around the back of the venue, smoking, talking, or loading up vans, but she didn't recognize anyone until Frank stepped out the backdoor. Letting out a squeal of delight, she ran over to him, unable to hold back any longer.
"Oh my god that was amazing!" She said, throwing her arms around his neck as he lifted her up in a hug. "I'm so proud of you!"
"Thanks babe!" He grinned as he returned her to her feet and kissed her hard, the adrenaline of the show, and winning still coursing through him. (YN) leaned into the kiss without a second thought.
"What the fuck?!" The shout cut through the cold late autumn night.
(YN) and Frank immediately jumped apart, as Gerard stalked toward them from where he’d been loading the van, with Mikey close behind. The other people who had been lingering around all turned to watch the unfolding scene.
"Frank, I thought of all the guys in school I could trust not to go after my sister, it would be you!" Gerard snapped, his finger in Frank’s face.
(YN) felt her blood start to boil. "Gerard! Stop it!” She snapped, pushing his hand away from Frank and stepping in between them. "God, this is so stupid! I love Frank! We're together and he has been nothing but sweet and kind and respectful and if I wanna keep dating him, then I’m gonna! Besides, you know Frank, you know he’s a good guy who isn’t gonna take advantage of me, or spread rumors, or anything else you’re scared of happening. Like who else could you possibly want me to date?”
Both Mikey and Gerard seemed to soften at her words, as silence hung between them. “You’re right,” Mikey finally conceded with a shrug before turning to Frank. “I’ve known you forever, and trust you to be good to (YN).”
“Thanks man,” Frank replied, relief evident in his tone.
"You love him?" Gerard asked, still hesitant.
"Yep," she nodded, still defiant.
"And you really love (YN)?" Gerard asked Frank.
"More than you can imagine."
Gerard nodded, considering his words. “Fine. But if she tells us you ever do anything to upset or hurt her,” Gerard started, his finger back in Frank’s face.
“You’ll kick my ass, I know,” Frank nodded, his hands up in defense.
“No, I’ll help (YN) kick your ass,” Gerard smirked. “Come on, let’s go home.”
Mikey and Gerard made their way back toward the van, but (YN) and Frank lingered behind.
(YN) turned and grinned at Frank before burying her face against his neck. “Oh my god! It happened, it finally happened! Life just got so much easier,” she laughed. "I don't think I've ever felt so relieved!"
"I’m just so happy that I can tell everyone how much I love you,” he grinned when she pulled back.
Just then Ray came out the back door that they were standing next to, guitar case in hand. The look on his face when he saw Frank’s hands on (YN) waist made (YN) immediately start giggling.
“Wha- what the hell is this?!” He asked, clearly confused.
“Remember that girlfriend that Tucker ratted me out for having a couple months ago?” Frank asked.
“Yea?”
“Hi,” (YN) grinned as she waved at him.
“But Gerard said-”
“Doesn’t matter,” (YN) cut him off.
“No stupid rules could keep me from being in love with (YN),” Frank said, almost more to (YN) than to Ray, as he pulled her closer.
She grinned at him, before leaning in and kissing him hard. She could have sworn she heard Ray muttering about being the last to know everything, but she didn’t care. Everything had finally turned around for her, and she didn’t have to hide her love for Frank ever again.

A Long Way Back - Part 1 of 2
Pairing: Gerard Way x Female Reader
Rating: General
Requested By: Anon
Word Count: ~7,900 total, ~3400 in part 1
Author’s Note: This request asked for current Gerard with a singer who is younger and to be honest, I started this request immediately when I got it, but I’ve been picking it up and putting it down on and off since then. I was inspired by His Smile Will Keep You Safe by @xxfanfiction-emo-trinityxx and I Know I’ll Lose by @sunsetinmyvein and while this story is nowhere near as long as their stories, I hope that you guys enjoy it regardless. I’ve also thrown together a playlist if you’re interested as well
Tumblr media
“We are Garden of Woe and don’t you ever forget it! Thank you Milwaukee!” (YN) shouted as the band hit their final notes and the lights went out. The crowd was cheering and (YN) felt that addicting mix of adrenaline and exhaustion that she always felt after an amazing show.
“That show was sick!” Liam the guitarist raved and (YN) nodded enthusiastically as she took a swig from her water bottle on the way backstage.
“Hey guys, great show as usual,” their manager Clark grinned when they walked in the dressing room. “Can I get your attention for a second?”
(YN) looked at her bandmates, a look of confusion shared amongst them. “What’s going on?”
“I didn’t wanna tell you guys before the show and have yall be in your heads, but” he paused. “You’ve been asked to open for My Chemical Romance on their US reunion tour.”
(YN) thought she was about to either faint, puke, or die on the spot. “Clark don’t fuck with us.”
“I’m not fucking with you.”
“Oh my god, this is, oh my god,” Jake the drummer muttered, a far away look in his eyes as Rebecca the bass player just stood there with a shocked look on her face.
(YN) sunk down on the couch, legs unable to support her anymore. “I had just hoped to get tickets to one of those shows,” she said with an astonished laugh, holding her head in her hands.
“Well if you accept, you’re gonna be going to every show, getting paid to be there, and getting more exposure than you ever could dream of,” Clark replied.
“I think I speak for everyone when I say hell yes!” Liam exclaimed, the rest of the band agreeing instantly.
“Then it’s settled, I’ll get in touch with their management tomorrow morning and you better get ready because you’re about to go on a wild ride.”
~
To (YN) it felt like an instant and an eternity at the same time before Garden of Woe departed for the first stop of the MCR reunion tour. A lot of buzz had been building around their band since it was announced that they, along with Taking Back Sunday for the first half of the tour and Crystal Lake Cemetery for the second half, would be opening the shows.
“Are you so stoked Becs? Are you? Are you?!” Liam shouted, shaking Rebecca’s shoulders excitedly as their bus rolled down the highway.
“If you keep doing that I’m going to barf on you,” Rebecca snapped back.
Everyone’s nerves had been on edge since Clark had told them the news and arguments had been erupting about things like the setlist, or what their merch would look like, and the tension only seemed to grow the closer they got to the start of the tour. Rebecca wouldn't even return (YN)'s calls for a week over a debate about what they should be wearing on stage.
“Oh my god Liam, I say this with all the love in the world, but please shut the fuck up,” (YN) muttered.
Liam, with his endless energy, bounced across the tour bus to where (YN) was sitting and climbed onto her lap. “You! This is literally what you’ve been talking about since you were 16 years old! This is why we formed Garden of Woe, why we’ve been struggling and starving for a decade!”
“I know, but you’re never gonna see the stage if you keep bugging everyone like this,” (YN) retorted to her friend in her lap.
“What are you gonna say when you finally meet them?”
“Will we even meet them?” (YN) asked, trying to sound aloof. She had been trying not to think about actually meeting the band that she had been obsessed with and saved her life when she was a depressed teenager back in 2004. When she and Liam founded Garden of Woe, she modeled her stage presence on Gerard’s after watching hours of live performance videos. When My Chem announced they were getting back together back on Halloween 2019, (YN) cried tears of joy for hours and they did an extra encore of just MCR covers at their show that night.
“We’re gonna be on the road with them for two months, of course we are,” Jake replied.
(YN) groaned. “I can’t deal with this right now,” she grumbled, pushing Liam off her before climbing into her bunk.
A while later Clark was calling her name to come out as they had arrived at the first venue. “Alright, here is the itinerary: you guys have soundcheck at 5:30, doors are at 6:30, you’re on at 7:30. After your set, you should get to the main merch booth to sign things for the fans, but you can watch Taking Back Sunday and My Chem if you’d prefer. Then two hours after My Chem finishes, we load back in and it’s on to the next stop.”
(YN) glanced at her phone, it was just before 2 PM, which meant they had hours before their soundcheck. Hours to build up more nervous energy, to possibly run into My Chem or Taking Back Sunday, another band she’d looked up to for just as long.
The bus rolled to a stop and they grabbed the things they’d need for the show that night and headed inside. There were other big black busses already parked outside and roadies moving things around.
“This is real, this is really real. This is the biggest thing we’ve ever done and we’re really here,” Rebecca said, totally astonished as (YN) linked arms with her.
“I’m really trying not to think about it,” (YN) replied. Even from the back of the stadium they could hear the crowd already waiting out front. When they got to the door, they flashed their badges and were escorted to their dressing room.
“Do we just wait here? Can we go walk around? I wanna go check everything out,” Liam babbled excitedly.
“How much coffee did you drink today, dude?” (YN) asked, trying to keep the nerves out of her voice.
“None. Come on, let’s get out there and meet our tourmates! Who is with me? (YN), Jake, Becs?”
Rebecca rolled her eyes. “I’m gonna try to calm down and center myself and not piss off the people who are employing us.”
“I’ll go,” Jake replied.
“Yea me too, get it over with,” (YN) mumbled. She’d met so many people touring and opening for bands she looked up to that it shouldn’t make her nervous, but Gerard, Mikey, Ray and Frank were legendary. The three bandmates started to wander the halls, peeking in doors until they heard people talking.
“Is this happening? Are we about to meet them?” (YN) looked at Liam, her heart hammering.
“Come on,” he said, grabbing her elbow and leading the way. “‘Scuse me, sorry to interrupt, but we wanted to introduce ourselves. We are Garden of Woe.”
“Hey, nice to finally meet you guys, I’m Gerard,” Gerard said, getting up to shake their hands. Jake and Liam introduced themselves like normal humans, but (YN) was screaming internally.
“I’m (YN),” she squeaked, and Gerard gave her an amused smile and she was certain her brain melted. Then all the sudden she was introducing herself to Mikey, Frank, and Ray as well and it was as if she had transcended to another plane of existence. She listened as they easily made conversation with Jake and Liam, but she couldn’t put together a coherent thought to join in.
“Are you ok?” she heard someone asking. Shaking her head to pull herself out of her thoughts, she realized it was Gerard.
“Yea, yea, thanks, just kinda overwhelmed by everything that’s going on,” she admitted.
Gerard nodded. “Yea, being back in the tour life has been kinda weird. Overwhelming, like you said.”
“For sure. And I don’t wanna seem like, I dunno, a crazed fan, but I have to tell you, I’ve been listening to you guys since I was 16 when Three Cheers came out. It got me through so much and your performance style inspired me so much and how I perform and yea. Sorry to ramble, I just had to get that off my chest, I won’t bug you about it again,” (YN) said with another shake of her head as she put her hands over her face. She didn’t know why, but tears were stinging at her eyes. “So sorry.”
“Don’t be,” he replied and he reached out and rubbed her arm. “We saw you guys performing and that’s why we asked you to come out with us. You have a lot of talent.”
“Well thank you, this is literally a dream come true,” (YN) blushed. Receiving a compliment like that from Gerard Way himself was mind blowing.
“My Chem, you’re up for soundcheck,” someone with a headset called from the doorway.
“We’ll see you around,” Gerard waved as they made their way out the door. After the band was gone (YN), Jake, and Liam stood alone in the dressing room silently for a moment.
“Holy fucking hell we just met My Chemical Romance!” Liam shrieked.
“I know!” (YN) shouted in reply, throwing her arms around her friends in a celebratory hug.
~
"(YN). Earth to (YN)," Liam said, pulling her from her thoughts. "You ready?"
"No, not at all," she replied and Liam could see the fear in her face. It had been a long time since he had seen her that nervous before a performance.
"You got this," he said to (YN). "We all got this, come on!"
Just then the stage lights dimmed and the crowd roared like she'd never heard before. The other three took their places on stage. "Fuck it," she muttered to herself and ran out on stage.
45 minutes later Garden of Woe was taking their bow and hurrying off stage so the roadies could switch out their equipment for Taking Back Sunday’s. The four bandmates were wrapping each other in sweaty hugs and jumping up and down, as the set had gone better than they ever could have hoped. After cleaning themselves up a bit, they went to the merch booth and signed autographs and took photos for a while, but the line cleared out again once Taking Back Sunday went on. After they finished, there wasn't much time before MCR were going to take the stage, so (YN) hurried backstage and found a crate to sit on and watch while the greatest band of their generation took the stage.
The show was absolutely awe inspiring; to watch the way Ray shredded on his guitar, the way Frank and Mikey moved around the stage, but most of all watching Gerard. He was a natural on stage, even after all this time away from it. While she had watched enough interviews on youtube to know that he was soft spoken, the way he turned that off and started to just command the stage and the crowd was incredible. What she couldn’t believe was that no one else was with her watching the show. Did they not realize what an opportunity they were missing she wondered.
"Enjoying the show?" Gerard asked when they came off stage before the encore.
"So much! You're kicking so much ass out there!" She beamed and the guys all laughed in appreciation.
Once the show was over and everyone was cleaned up, the bands all came together to celebrate a little before it was time to reboard the busses. The drinks were flowing for everyone that partook as people talked happily, but (YN) found herself without a place to sit until she decided to crash on Liam's lap.
Ray smiled as he walked over to them. “Hey, how’d the first show go?”
“Amazing!” Liam grinned.
“So amazing, but you guys, holy shit!” (YN) gushed. “I suppose when you’ve played together for so long you don’t just lose that, even after a break.”
"That’s true,” Ray nodded. “How long have you been a band?”
“About ten years,” (YN) replied. “We talked about it in high school, but neither of us could play an instrument, and life was so hard back then. We couldn’t get our shit together until after he graduated from college. It's only really been in the last few years we've been able to find some success with it.”
“So are you two together?" Ray asked, looking between the pair.
"Oh nooo," (YN) laughed. "Liam's practically my brother."
"And I'm gay," Liam interjected.
"And there's that," (YN) nodded.
“Well you guys have a real dynamic that works,” Ray shrugged. The way he treated them as if they were equals to everyone else on the tour was exactly the confidence boost (YN) needed as the tour got started.
~
The next few days of the tour were very much the same. Rolling into town, hurry up and wait, getting to know the guys in the other bands, and then finally getting on stage. After signing for fans, (YN) would rush backstage to watch MCR perform, and after that everyone would gather again until it was time to load back into the busses to the next town.
Each day was a little less nerve-wracking than the last and (YN) finally felt like she was coming out of her shell. She’d hoped that Rebecca would be her right-hand woman, since there were so few other women out on the tour, but Rebecca had been heading straight to the busses after the shows, instead of hanging out with everyone else.
“Do you have any idea what’s up with Becs?” (YN) asked the other two members of the band after their soundcheck.
“Nope,” Jake replied quickly before heading back behind his kit again.
“Just go talk to her,” Liam suggested.
(YN) grumbled before nodding and heading back to the dressing room. “Hey Becs!” (YN) said as chipperly as she could muster. “Are you gonna hang with us after the show tonight? I miss hanging out with you, and the guys are all super fun to talk to.”
“I dunno, maybe,” she replied, but (YN) couldn’t get a read on her mood.
“What are you gonna wear tonight? I was thinking my Mikey Fuckin Way shirt that I cropped,” (YN) said turning to their wardrobe rack.
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom,” Rebecca said before quickly turning and almost running out of the room. Moments later Liam came in.
“What the hell was that about?”
“I have no idea dude, I tried though, I really did.”
Despite the weirdness between Rebecca and the rest of the band, the show went well. (YN) again ducked out early from their signing to catch the MCR show from her favorite spot at the side of the stage. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was imagining things, but it seemed like whenever Gerard looked her way, he’d always smile just at her.
“Still enjoying the show?” Gerard asked when he came off stage before their encore.
“I’ve got years of not seeing you guys live to catch up on, I’m never gonna get sick of it,” she laughed.
Gerard nodded. “I caught your show tonight, you guys are really killin it.”
(YN) could have sworn her soul left her body for a moment. “R-really?”
“Yea, I really-”
“Gee, we’re back on,” Ray said tapping him on the shoulder.
(YN) waved him off as he went back on stage and the crowd roared again. She tried to keep from screaming herself, but for an entirely different reason.
At the end of the show, everyone convened as usual for the post-show celebration. (YN) was glad to find that Rebecca had joined the group, even if she was mostly just talking to Jake. She had meant to talk to her, but got pulled into a conversation with Adam instead.
“Ok, but can you teach me to swing the mic like you do and not kill someone?” (YN) asked with a laugh.
“Sure thing, how ‘bout after your sound check tomorrow?” Adam offered.
“Perfect, can’t wait!” (YN) grinned, but in the corner Rebecca was rolling her eyes.
From the other side of the room Mikey was trying to talk to Gerard, but he was noticeably distracted. Following his brother’s line of sight, realized Gerard was watching (YN)’s animated conversation with Adam. He bumped his shoulder into Gerard’s.
“You really are into (YN) aren’t you?” Mikey asked with a knowing smile and Gerard just shrugged dejectedly. “Why don’t you just ask her out or something?”
“I can’t,” Gerard replied.
“Why not?”
“Because.”
“Because why? Why? What good reason do you have?” Mikey argued.
“Because I’m older than her, because I don’t want her to feel obligated to spend time with me just because we’re on this tour together. Because I’m not… I’m not the Gerard Way I used to be.”
"What the fuck does that mean?" Mikey asked sternly.
"I know I'm not a sexy rock star anymore, I'm a divorced dad with grey in his hair and," he sighed. "You know what I mean."
"Gee, you know you're in a better place now in so many ways than you were before. Stop talking yourself out of it.”
Gerard just grumbled in response. He knew his brother was right, he was better off now than he was ten years ago, worlds better than he was even longer ago than that. But he couldn’t help but worry that (YN) wouldn’t be interested in him. At least not the current version of him.
But that didn’t change how he felt about her
~
The next stop on the tour was Riot Fest, but Garden of Woe would not actually be opening for My Chem and Taking Back Sunday. They had been relegated to one of the smaller side stages earlier in the day. (YN) and Liam were hanging out on the curb outside their bus in the warm, mid September Chicago air when Frank and Gerard came by.
“Hey, when are you guys on today?” Frank asked.
“At 4:30, why?” Liam answered
Frank climbed in between the two and pulled out his phone. “Gerard is always talking about how awesome your show is, so I was gonna promote you guys.”
(YN) looked up at Gerard who smiled shyly. “Well Gerard, why don’t you get in on this too then,” she smiled.
“Sure,” he nodded and sat down next to her as Liam took Frank’s phone and held it out so he could get everyone in the shot.
“Hey guys, we’re at Riot Fest, and before we play tonight, you gotta go check out our friends Garden of Woe," Frank said to the camera.
“4:30 on the Riot Stage,” (YN) added, flashing a peace sign before Liam finished recording. “Thanks guys, we really appreciate it. I don’t know how many people would be stopping by our set without the promo.”
“Well they should be, like I said before, you’re amazing,” Gerard replied as (YN) looked over at him with a soft smile. Over (YN)’s shoulder, Liam and Frank were exchanging knowing looks.
Hours later the band was waiting off stage, a few minutes before they were due to go on for their set.
“Holy shit, I didn’t expect the crowd this big,” Jake said after peaking out.
“I guess Frank’s post worked,” Liam shrugged.
“What post?” Rebecca asked.
“This one,” (YN) replied, pulling out her phone and pulling up the post she’d bookmarked. She let the video play, smiling happily at the four of them on the screen.
“Look at you all cozy with My Chem, what a surprise,” Rebecca deadpanned.
(YN) shot her a confused look and was about to open her mouth when Liam interjected.
“Ha, look at these comments,” Liam said, snatching the phone away. “People are totally shipping you and Gerard, (YN).”
“Shut up, no they aren’t,” she replied, but could feel her cheeks burning red.
“Yea they are, look!” He said pointing them out. (YN) scrolled through and couldn’t help but feel honored that people would think that she and Gerard made a cute couple. She could only imagine what it’d really be like.
“Don’t we have a show to play?” Rebecca asked snidely, snapping her from her thoughts.
“Becs is right, come on let’s get ready.” (YN) nodded, putting her phone away.
The energy of the crowd was great, and the fans that were up front were actually singing along, which brought a smile to (YN)’s face. An even bigger smile crossed her face when she glanced at the side of the stage and saw Gerard and Frank were there watching the show too.

The Spaces That Divide Us - Chapter 6
Chapter 5

Tumblr media
When you reported back to the others that Mikey would be starting at the school just after the new year, everyone started making plans for how to spend their free time before then. Frank announced that he wanted to go back and visit his family for the holidays, and Ray, still seeking normalcy, declared he wanted to go with him. Adam had been planning on meeting up with John and a couple other friends in Florida over the new year and promptly invited you, Gerard, and Mikey along.
“Sounds like fun to me,” you said looking between Gerard and Mikey. Mikey shrugged and nodded.
“Alright, we’re in,” Gerard replied with a grin.
After spending a quiet Christmas with the Way brothers and Adam, you headed south to Florida, where John’s family had a vacation home. On New Years Eve, the group got dressed up and headed to a crowded, rowdy bar. It was fun at first, but you quickly got a headache from the noise.
"Can we go outside?" You asked Gerard, shouting over the noise of the other partygoers.
Gerard smiled down at you and nodded, taking your hand and winding through the crowd. When you made it outside you took a deep breath and felt the wind on your face. Then a realization struck.
“The ocean is close," you said excitedly as you grinned at Gerard and took off running down the street.
It was a few blocks before your feet hit the sand. You paused and looked back at Gerard as he jogged up behind you. Breathlessly smiling he reached for your waist, but you slipped just out of his grasp with a laugh and took off toward the water, peeling your dress over your head as you ran, tossing it behind you as you kicked off your shoes and dove into the water.
It was cold, but still felt perfect as you swam out and then floated on your back, looking up at the moon. You let the waves pull you under before you swam back up for air and looked back at Gerard sitting at the edge of the water, blonde hair almost glowing in the moonlight on the dark beach. You made your way back to the shore, shivering in your soaked undergarments.
"Feeling better?" Gerard asked with a chuckle.
"Best I've felt in a long time. You know I love the water," you said as you plopped down next to him the sand.
You noticed Gerard trying to keep his gaze from lingering too long on your exposed skin, so you tilted your head to catch his eye.
"I'm so happy we're in this together. Not like we had much say in it, fate and all, but I'm so glad either way. I love you Gerard, I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for us."
Gerard reached up, cupping your cheek and pulled your lips to his. His hand felt so warm against your cheek as you leaned back, pulling him on top of you in the sand. He had one arm holding him up, as the other hand ran up and down your side, goosebumps following where his fingers brushed.
You deepened the kiss, tongues moving against each other as you ran your fingers through his hair, the sensation of your nails raking against his scalp causing him to gasp lightly against your lips.
You couldn’t tell how long you spent like that on the beach, intertwined in each other’s arms, the only sound was the waves gently crashing at your feet until fireworks started going off somewhere inland.
Gerard broke the kiss looking up as the shimmering colors filled the sky. "Happy new year (YN)," he said before leaning back down to capture his lips against yours.
"Happy new year, Gerard," you replied once you broke apart again. You involuntarily shivered, the cold night air becoming no match for the warmth Gerard's body was providing.
"You're freezing, come on, let's get you inside," he said handing you your dress. You slipped it back on and pulled your shoes back on. Gerard wrapped his arm around your shoulders, rubbing your arm as he held you tight to his side as you hurried back to John's house, fireworks still bursting in the sky above you, bathing you both in pops of color.
You glanced up at Gerard and couldn’t help but smile. You didn’t know if you properly conveyed how happy you truly were, but you hoped he could tell. He glanced down at you and smiled before placing a quick kiss to your forehead. Everything felt so perfect, you just hoped it could stay like this forever.
~
By the time you arrived back at John's place, you could feel the familiar tug of sleep pulling at your eyelids. Gerard let you both in with the spare key that John had left for you. You kicked off your shoes and made your way back to the room were sharing with Gerard.
Eyes barely open, you changed quickly out of your damp clothes and into your pajamas before dropping face first against the pillows. When Gerard came in from the bathroom, he couldn’t help but smile as he pulled the covers around you.
“Hope you don’t get sick from this, Sugar,” he said quietly as he unbuttoned his shirt and changed into pajama pants. He slipped into the spot next to you, but you didn’t stir. He knew that you were likely in the depths of a vision. He watched you sleeping for a few moments before turning his attention to his phone, notifying you friends that you had already turned in for the night. Suddenly he heard you gasp and saw the look of wide-eyed, terror on your face as you sat bolt upright.
“(YN), what did you see?” he asked, grabbing your arm.
You looked over at him, unable to speak for a moment until you choked out “I saw someone being murdered.”
“Do you know who it was? Who did it?”
“No! I didn’t recognize anyone or anything. All I could tell was it looked like a younger person and he was making it look like the older person had killed themselves. I don’t know what to do, Gerard!”
He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close against his chest, resting his head on top of yours. “I don’t know, Sugar, I don’t know if we can do anything. It could be anywhere. I’m so sorry you had to see it.”
You nodded, listening to his reassurances. “I just wish there was something I could do to improve so I could be of more help, so I could call the police and tell them this is happening or stop it myself. I’m just like a witness who can’t even bring justice to the victims because no one would believe me!”
“I’m so sorry that this is happening to you (YN). I wish I could take this burden off your shoulders,” Gerard replied rocking you gently against him. It broke his heart to see you like this, racked by guilt for something you never should have been forced to see. He didn’t understand why this had to happen and he would have a few choice words with whatever force or entity bestowed this gift and curse upon you if he was ever given a chance.
You and the guys arrived back at Adam’s house a few days after the new year, leaving just a day before Mikey was to begin school. As you started unloading your bags, Adam’s neighbor called over to him.
“Hey, you’ve been out of town a while, right? Did you hear the news?”
“No, what’s going on Steve?” Adam asked, walking over to his neighbor.
“Mayor’s dead! Offed himself on New Year’s Eve!”
This caught the attention of you, Gerard, and Mikey. “Wait, what?” You asked, as you all made your way over to the conversation.
“Yea, hang on,” Steve said going to his recycling bin and rummaging around before pulling out a newspaper. “Here you go.”
He handed you the paper and you felt your knees go weak when you saw the photo. It was exactly who you saw in your vision. “Shit,” you muttered.
Gerard had his hand around your waist supporting you in a second. “Is that him?”
You nodded as you handed the paper to Adam who began to read the article aloud. “And they don’t think that it’s suspicious at all?” He asked after he finished.
“Guess not. The deputy mayor announced right away that he didn’t wanna run for the office and called for a special election. It’s gonna be today.”
“What? How do they even have a candidate that fast?” Mikey asked.
Steve shrugged. “That bigwig over at the fancy school outside town threw his name in, and no one else seemed interested. I guess the whole thing is a technicality really.”
Gerard’s grip on your waist grew tighter. “It doesn’t seem right,” he said.
“That’s small-town life for ya,” Steve replied.
You made your way inside and sunk down on the sofa. “What do we do now? I can’t go to the police and tell them it was a murder; they'll suspect us if we do. It one of those the kids from the school, it has to have been.”
“It seems like he's trying to consolidate power,” Adam thought out loud. “If he's mayor, he's gonna control the police and he sure as hell isn’t gonna investigate himself.”
“It just makes what we're doing that much more important. And you gotta keep an eye on yourself Mikey. You can’t slip up, because he obviously isn’t above killing to get his way.”
Mikey nodded solemnly. “Got it. Let's get ready for tomorrow.”
