I honestly love how rushed Viktor's departure from Jayce was because in Jayce's point of view, he feels the exact same way we do. Arcane could have easily showed Viktor's transformation from inside the hexcube so that his sudden leave would make no sense but now, instead we solely see it from Jayce's eyes; AKA Viktor just waking up one morning, putting a blanket over his shoulders and then just fucking off into Zaun.

Even the timeskip just makes this more insane. Jayce had to wait at least a week to see Viktor wake up (he said "same as before" when Mel asked how Viktor was, which means some time has passed since the explosion) just as we had to wait three years for the sequel. The writers really put us in Jayce's shoes and said "every bit of confusion and frustration you're feeling is ten times worse in his case. Give him a fucking break."
