long boring rant below rip. honestly probably skip this one
to be honest i understand where you “big simblr” people are coming from. when you feel as if you’re underappreciated, every post where someone else is having a good time or getting positive reception feels like it’s a commentary on how you aren’t doing well. i’m sympathetic to that. but you can’t just tag everyone else with the fact that your blog isn’t getting the attention you think it deserves. everyone feels a bit bad when their post flops, but the difference is how long it lasts. if you are letting a note count eat at you, if you’re fuming because there’s a post with 100 notes on your dash while you got 9, you need to stop and ask yourself who it benefits for you to be that upset. it’s just ruining your day, and confuses everyone whose inbox you come into raging at them for not really doing anything but existing. there are legitimate problems on simblr (ex. racists, terfs), as there are anywhere else, but the fact other people are visibly happy and doing well in front of you is a problem with your sense of self if you feel angry about it. and if simblr does piss you off that badly, if you really can’t stomach seeing other people get attention, then i’m asking you to take some time off to help yourself feel better. put yourself first. don’t just subject yourself to a bad experience every day.
and if you really think someone’s a problem, if they’re so annoying you see red when their url pops up, you know what you can do? just block them. it is free and private. my blocklist is full to bursting and no one ever needs to know who’s on it and why. if my posts about reblogging stuff makes you mad, block me. if someone posting discord screenshots bothers you, block them. i find it very interesting how you guys are lightning fast to send someone hate when they talk with their friends, because how else would you know unless you were following them, or a mutual that reblogged them? this is what i’m saying is the great thing about social media: for the most part, you do not have to tolerate an environment you don’t like. you can focus your entire online experience around the people you specifically want to see. there is literally only one limitation on this freedom, and it’s that you can’t just go around asking people to stop posting something you don’t enjoy.
i’m trying to be sincere and non-judgmental here, so please get that i have also felt kind of crappy when i scroll down my dash and feel like everyone is having fun without me. and there are instances where someone is deliberately excluded from an online space, just like your friends can phase you out in real life. but the difference is that we are not all friends - a lot of us don’t know anything about each other aside from usernames. the people you follow are not trying to hurt you. if you come onto simblr every day with the mindset that everyone you follow is smugly showing off their cool sims and their friends and the cc they make, you are going to be miserable. so please stop trying to make yourself miserable. just have fun. and if you can’t do that, take a break! for your own mental wellbeing!
