ji you have done it once again i was giggling all throughout this ohynmgosh. i wish i had my own little haemin to treat with the most perfect party and perfect presents :(
gathering all of the boys together to plan something soso special for haem warms my heart extremely; especially since they didn't really know reader and ended up getting along with them super well! that's so sweet to me knowing they accepted them into the little family they had!
also i'm not sure if it was on purpose or not, but i noticed how you had the hyung line doing all the cooking, and seungheon and yungyu ( + kyungmin) doing presents! was that somehow in relation to the one bom episode where hyung line cooked lunch for haem and kyung to eat during their exams? and seungyu packing up their presents to take with them? if so i definitely picked up on it LOL super cute :3
when haemin arrived and reader hurt themselves on accident, him rushing to the scene made my heart pound i was blushing and kicking my feet so hard. because honestly i would also act the same as if it wasn't that serious, but he's just so worried and my heart was going crazy omg.
then during the party, when kyungmin was talking to haem about his feelings for reader, it was so adorable because i can definitely see haem being content with his place in relationships, not wanting to move too quickly! but i know that man is dying inside. he doesn't peg me as the type of person to be super into physical touch, maybe just holding hands :(( he just wants to be near someone he loves.
aghh overall i was loving all of this, kinda sad i didn't find this when it was actually his birthday, but i'm glad i get to read it now hehe. good job as always ji ^_^

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀〈 REBLOGS ARE APPRECIATED ! 〉
the light in his shared room was still off, hints of the morning sun shining through the curtain-covered window. it became a rare occurrence for haemin to sleep in - school and now his job being rather demanding of his time - so he chose to revel in the soft glow of the early morning.
his reflective clock showed it was just shy of hitting 8, its white numbers protruding the rather dim room. it was almost too quiet in the dorm; his 7 other roommates seemingly vanishing on the one day he'd probably want to spend with them the most - his birthday.
haemin doesn't allow himself to wallow in whatever pitiful feeling started to sprout in his chest - he knew his members well, they wouldn't have forgotten a day like this.
at least, that's what he thought.
upon opening his bedroom door, the dorm was empty. no signs of any of his members - the lights to other bedrooms and bathrooms were shut off. haemin was alone. he purses his lips, pushing down the dreadful feeling once more as he enters the kitchen, the bright pink post-it on the counter catching his attention.
went to run errands with myungho and yungyu. should be back soon. if you need anything from the store, text me =) - jaeyun
the handwriting changes under jaeyuns signature - haemin recognized it to be kyungmins:
haemin, if/when you read this, happy birthday!! rest up, i'll be back in a bit!
haemin felt a smile creep onto his face - maybe with the self-pity he started to notice coming back, all it took was one person remembering to replace the entire feeling. he left the post-it where he found it, crossing the short distance to the fridge and grabbing the milk jug.
plain cereal was never his favorite (he hoped jaeyun would pick up something tastier while he was out) so reluctantly, he poured a small bowl of corn flakes - a simple breakfast. he pulls a chair to sit at the counter, a tired groan of annoyance leaving his lips as he realizes he left his phone in his room.
although the commute back to his bedroom was short, his limbs were still trying to wake up, making the short walk feel like a mountain hike. he unplugs the device from its charger, the screen lighting up - he takes note of the several notifications.
one from his manager, saying how he should be at the company building by 3 pm for his birthday livestream, another from the 8turn accounts with his birthday posts, and a message from you, wishing him a good day.
his smile grows, hitting his past self for really believing no one had remembered. his members, you, or his fans weren't able to celebrate with him physically at the moment, but that doesn't mean they forgot his birthday - that they forgot about him.
he clicks on your message first, thanking you and asking what your plans were for the day as he makes his way back to his cereal.
nothing really, you reply first, the typing bubble popping up again immediately after - haemin waits patiently.
if you have the time, maybe you could stop by? we can play a couple of games before you have to do idol stuff or whatever (* ̄︿ ̄)
he chuckles lightly, your harsh tone aimed at his work schedule always amusing to him. he knew you were never serious, but he can't help the small jump his heart does thinking that you miss spending time with him that much.
i don't have anything to do until 3, he sends off, typing another message. let me text kyungmin, i think he's expecting me to stay at the dorm for a while
he switches contacts, a small notification of your no worries :] message coming into view as he types, an unconscious smile forming on his lips.
kyungmin replies very energetically, telling him to make sure he dresses well when he goes over - only kyungmin knew of haemin's liking to you, promising to never tell a soul (and haemin hoped he's kept that promise).
his cereal has gone soggy, but he couldn't find it in himself to care as he stands from his seat, abandoning his bowl in favor of telling you he'd be by your place in 20 minutes.
"what do i even wear . . . ?" he trails off, talking to himself as he looks through the small rack of clothing, trying to find something both comfortable and suitable for you to see him in.
"he said he'll be here in twenty," you say into the kitchen - jaeyun, myungho, yoonsung, and minho all adorned in aprons while preparing a small feast for the 9 of you to enjoy.
seungheon, yungyu, and kyungmin sat on your living room floor, frantically trying to wrap the small gifts they had prepared for haemin.
you could hear yungyu's frantic yells to hurry once you returned to the living room, cut up pieces of wrapping paper strewn about your floor.
having gone to school with kyungmin and haemin, you didn't know much about their groupmates prior to their visit today - you were relieved with how easily they all fell into their own respective roles in order to make a nice memory for your friends' birthday.
you had reached out to kyungmin sometime last week to try and prepare something with him, he was the one who ended up suggesting something being held at your place (as well as to have the rest of their members join).
i don't think he'd expect it, your phone screen read as you ate your dinner, movie paused as you messaged kyungmin. plus, having you host means he definitely would come, he'd fall to his knees if you asked him to
you shake your head, a smile playing on your lips. i don't think that's true, min, you reply. if you didn't live together, i'm sure he'd come running to you, too
a simple (〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜 was all he replied with, followed by his plans and how they could get everything to work out.
"the foods finished, we're packing it up right now!" myungho yells to you all, making seungheon and yungyu giggle as they slap tape onto the wrapped gifts hurriedly - you start to think they've never wrapped anything before.
nevertheless, they all move and clean up quickly, piling everything into your kitchen just out of view of the front door where haemin would soon stand.
they all stay in their place, the "cooks" being sure to remove their aprons and fold them neatly, haemin's favorite foods freshly made and set on the counter alongside his wrapped gifts.
you do one more look around your place - thankfully, it didn't look like there were an additional 7 people rustling around just a minute ago. you breath out a sigh to try and calm your racing heart, turning on your tv to at least make it look like you were just lounging around when he arrives.
a knock sounds throughout the apartment, you yelling you'd be right there as you turn to the kitchens inhabitants, hoping at least one of them remembered how the plan was supposed to go - you chuckle noticing how minho already had several rolls of blue streamers in his hands.
you open the door, haemin standing with a small bag, presumably filled with things he needed to take to the office after his time with you.
"hi, haem!" you greet excitedly, watching as his smile only grows as you open the door wider, welcoming him inside.
"hey, y/n," he replies, "smells good, were you cooking?"
you shake your head negatively - hoping haemin doesn't pick up on the quick flash of panic in your eyes. "just reheated some takeout a bit ago, i guess the smell is still lingering," you laugh to try and play it off as truth - and luckily - haemin doesn't question you further. "what game do you want to play? here- you can set your bag in my room then you can pick something out."
he nods and follows behind like a lost puppy, and you brace yourself a bit for the first part of the plan. you turn the hallway's corner a bit to early, knocking your elbow into the wall, a hiss escaping you as your opposite palm reaches to cup the injured area.
it didn't actually hurt at all - you're sure a bruise wouldn't even begin to form - but haemin was at your side within a second.
"you okay? that sounded like you hit it pretty hard-"
"yeah, i'm good," you smile at him, hand still cupping the area as you hear some rustling from the living room, alerting you that the "signal" of you turning the corner was loud enough for his members to hear.
haemin's face tells you he doesn't believe you. "can i at least look at it, then?" he asks as you continue your commute to your room - he sets his bag down on your bed. "i can't have fun knowing you might be hurt worse than you're making it out to be."
you realize getting haemin to check the fake injury would buy you and his friends more time - so with a sigh feigning playful annoyance - you sit on your bed and show him where you had hit your arm.
he sits next to you, your heartbeat picking up slightly as he gently takes your arms into his hands, softly tracing over the area to see if you wince away in pain - you didn't react at all.
"i told you i was fine, haem," you smile at him - he drops your arm cautiously back into your lap.
"it wasn't that i didn't believe you!" he starts to ramble. "i just- y'know- i know you'd do the same for me so i wanted to-"
"it's all good, you don't have to worry, okay?" you reassure, earning a sigh and a smile from your friend. "let's find something to play," you stand, walking over the small shelf that contains many console games, some of which you only play when haemin or kyungmin visit you.
it wouldn't shock you if some cases gathered dust atop them, their schedules making it a hassle to find time to join you. he scans the cases from his place next to you and pretends to ponder on his options - you know well what he would end up choosing, but the little show he put on of tapping his chin in thought was amusing.
you hear a voice from your living room and freeze for a moment, waiting to see if haemin has any kind of reaction to the sound. you're relieved when he instead reaches forward, pulling two cases from the shelf.
"not even surprised you picked those," you say with a small laugh, turning around to face your bedroom door to leave. i hope they're finished, you think as haemin follows behind once again. "you can go start up the console, i'm gonna go to the bathroom real quick."
without question, haemin nods - you watch as he begins the retreat down your hallways, hurriedly scurrying to the bathroom where his boxed-cake and candles await you.
his attention was on the game cases, opening them to retrieve the disks when he hears loud voices suddenly. turning his head up, he's met with his members cheering, his name being yelled from the tops of their lungs while several party decorations hung from the walls and ceiling. confetti lined the edges of the room and the couch, dining table covered with his favorites and his members smiling faces in front of him while they stood on your couches and chairs.
he didn't have any words - part of him was still trying to process that his groupmates were there, in your house, and he had no idea. his frozen state made his friends laugh, rushing over to his side to pull him into the room, taking the cases from his hands.
he keeps looking around, helium balloons spelling out his name were taped to your walls, blue streamers draped from the ceiling and many wrapped boxes sat on your coffee table.
haemin was speechless once he saw you coming from the hallway, a blue cake on your hands as the members all sang to him - for him. he couldn't help the smile the covered his face, hands coming up to hide his embarrassment; he couldn't believe he actually thought his friends would forget.
he blew out the candles, opening his eyes to hear his friends' cheers and feel their hands on his shoulders, shaking him as they settle him onto your confetti-covered couch (you'd make kyungmin clean that up later). you set the cake on a vacant spot on your dining room table before sitting in a chair, the rest of the members finding their own spots as they slowly hand him each wrapped box.
haemin handles them gently, still somewhat in a shock - he was alone this morning, he was just with you alone and about to play games until he had to go into the office, and now here he was, surrounded by all of his friends and opening the gifts they had all pitched in to buy for him.
the room fills with several laughs and conversations as time progressed, loading up the console for anyone to play and haemin not having to move a finger, each person doting on him. getting him food and drinks, putting on the jewelry he received as a gift, you're even sure you saw yoonsung trying to feed him - much to haemin's dismay.
haemin's eyes fell onto you, sitting on your couch and smiling as yungyu red-shelled myungho for the nth time that race - this felt right. having you with him and his members felt right.
he didn't miss the way they all quickly became friendly with you, either, his heart swelling at the sight of you laughing alongside jaeyun and minho as you watch the race reach its conclusion.
kyungmin followed his gaze from his spot next to him. "whatcha thinking about, haem?"
"were you even planning to come back to the dorm today?" he asks, not turning to face his friend until a long period of silence consumes the conversation. kyungmin's face shifts once haemin's eyes are on him, going from stoic to a wide smile, his dimples on full display, effectively telling haemin nope, the whole plan was to get you here.
"i knew you'd come running here, don't pretend you wouldn't have," the younger replies, haemin looking away while shaking his head softly. "i think you should talk to them."
"about what?"
"about everything. y'know, how you feel and stuff-"
haemin stops his sentence with a shake of his head, and awkward chuckle escaping his lips, watching as you cheer for seungheon who - miraculously - came out in first place. "i don't think right now is the right time," he breaths out. "i like where we are."
"but we both know you want more than that," kyungmin whispers as yoonsung returns, another plate of food in his hands as a beeping sound airs through the room, the start of another race about to commence.
haemin gratefully takes the plate from yoonsung's hands, who then lounges against the couch, watching the match on the tv. haemin's mind was too preoccupied with kyungmin's words to pay attention to the food in front of him.
maybe now wasn't the best time to think about it - "it" being what he wanted to have with you - but he couldn't help but thinking about that as he watched you interact with his members; you fit all too perfectly into his second family.
before long the cheers died down, members laying across your floor while minho and yoonsung took on the task of cleaning while you, yungyu, and seungheon packed up the remaining food for them to take back to the dorms.
haemin hoped this meant you could join them on group days off, no longer keeping your interactions limited to himself and kyungmin.
"are we all ready to go?" myungho asks into the room, back turned to yungyu who discreetly tries to place confetti on the top of myungho's head.
a chorus of replies play through your living room, each member taking time to thank you for letting them come by as well as letting them take the rest of the leftovers.
"of course, thank you all for bringing everything," you say, a smile on your face as one-by-one they exit your door.
"anytime," jaeyun smiles.
"my birthday is next," seungheon says as he approaches you. "you're invited to whatever we do, y/n."
a wide grin forms on your lips. "i'll be there."
"later, y/n," kyungmin says, giving you a quick hug. "i promise i'll be back later today to help clean up."
"bye, min. and you better," you say with a sharp tone - but the everlasting smile you had seemed to counteract whatever seemingly negative words you say.
haemin was the last to greet you, his bag from your room hanging off of his shoulder and another bag in his palm that contained all of his gifts. he opened his arms to you shyly: "thank you for everything, y/n."
you gladly walk into his embrace, your arms filing through his to bring him towards you. "of course, haem."
while he holds you close - feels the pad of your thumb rub soothingly against his back - he thinks of kyungmin's words. deciding to think with his heart instead of his head, he speaks up.
"wanna hang out next time we're both free? just us?" he says, hoping you couldn't feel the way his heart raced before you pulled away to look at him.
"can i pick what we do?"
haemin's smile grows, a soft blush resting on his cheekbones. "anywhere you'd like."
you nod, already having a place in mind. "i'll let you know my schedule then," you take a moment to take in how he's looking at you - eyes sparkling as his bangs hung just past his eyebrows, a closed-mouth smile on his lips. "go talk to your fans, i'm sure theyre dying to wish you a happy birthday."
"you'll be watching, right?" haemin says, hopeful.
you nod. "wouldn't dream of missing it."
with one final - and much shorter - hug, haemin leaves, the rest of his groupmates waiting patiently at your floor's elevator for him to finish talking with you.
you wave to them all from your doorway, retreating back inside once the doors of the elevator close, staring at your apartment in awe of how it looked.
kyungmin better come back to help you.
"how was your day today haeminie?" yoonsung asks, reading a comment a viewer left off of the tablet their staff had given him.
"my day was really nice," he says, talking into the camera. "i spent it with my members and other people who are really important to me, and now it's even more memorable since i get to spend it with our fans."
haemin smiles, the other members each replying with a touched sigh. haemin hoped even with his somewhat vague reply, you knew the "other people" was referring to you.
the live wrapped up quickly, the boys all heading back to their dorm, and as haemin lay in bed, he can't help but smile at your messages.
