Worm anon again, going to give my two cents on why I think SSOL and (early) Worm are really similar but take it with a grain of salt because I'm still about a third into Worm... I think what initially made me draw the connection between Worm and SSOL is a scene in Worm where the main villain team has to crash a gala with a bunch of heroes in attendance. Demoni crashing a gala and immediately talking about Paratech made me think of Worm and how superpowered people in that universe are called Parahumans. But there's also a lot of similarity between how the action is written in SSOL and Worm! For one, Worm deals with a lot of fights with A LOT of people (including one with every single parahuman in the city and a lot from out of town as well). But it's very rarely confusing because the prose is clear and easy to read. This is true in SSOL as well! In the guildhall fight, I could clearly tell what Mae, Luke, Ale, Jere, Bojan and the Civilians were all up to! There was never a sense that anyone was just frozen NPCs if that makes sense. Jere and the POV character of Worm, Taylor, are pretty similar too I think. They're both the slightest bit naive about their respective hero systems at first, both want to do what's right in the end but they still draw lines on what's justifiable for the "greater good" (though for Taylor that line is starting to get more and more blurry). If you are interested in picking up Worm someday I would highly highly encourage it! Even so little into the story, it's been providing pretty interesting insights into the superhero genre! Though I have to warn you, though the author clearly tries to approach sensitive topics with empathy and care, he is a white Canadian man in 2010 and you can sometimes see his biases poking through... Hope you enjoyed my worm-y rant and I hope to God it wasn't too incomprehensible

now im even more tempted to read worm, ngl! always good to gather more inspiration for when @mitochondriencocktail and i pick the au up again. (currently we're working on a oneshot(?) and a chapter of one of our WIPs :3c) we're going at all our stuff slowly, but surely given what's happening in our personal lives 😭 (it's so hard to have the immune system of a victorian child)
