#[...] i can't stop thinking about this version of cas #i think the common interpretation is that taking on sam's hell memories messed him up #(and initially i think they did) #but everything after he woke up always seemed to me not like something that was happening to cas #but something that he was choosing to do #he's a strategist - he saw that everyone would buy the excuse and he leaned into it #'you're not sorry - you're playing sorry' #he hurt dean so profoundly but he doesn't know how to fix things between them #he doesn't understand yet that he loves dean #he doesn't understand yet that you can be mad at someone and still love them #he doesn't understand yet that there's nothing he can do that will make dean stop loving him #and so he's trying to show him: look! i can be good #i can be harmless #i can stay out of your way #i can stop hurting you #he checks in on dean every now and then: #are you still mad at me now? #how about now? #now? #but of course he's still hurting dean in his absence #his refusal to get involved #his refusal to be his friend in any way that really matters #and there's no magic cure or reset that 'fixes' him #there's just cas making a different choice; there's dean saying 'i'd rather have you - cursed or not' #and then we never see this version of cas again #man they've both loved each other for so long lol it just fucks me up sometimes (via domesticadventures)
