ohOo, explaining lore! My favorite! Thank u! (Context; prev asked / did not know about humans not being native to Tyria)
So base game starts in the year 1325 AE, and I think by now (post-SotO) we're in 1336 AE or something.
The AE stands for "After the Exodus", which is when the Six Human Gods got in a war, Abbadon was imprisoned in the Mists, and the Six (now the Five) retreated into the Mists themselves because obviously their presence was too controversial. Eventually Kormir ascended and joined them, and eventually they all stopped answering prayers altogether. Supposedly they're looking for another world (more peaceful / without dragons / etc) for humans to live on.
Fun fact! This other world would be at least the third that humans have tried to live on. Tyria is the second. Before Tyria, humans (and their gods) lived somewhere else. It's also strongly implied that there are generations of the human deities. I believe Balthazar is said to have had the head of his father. Abbadon was said to be the oldest.
The Six were originally drawn to Tyria by the huge magical power of an artesian well in the heart of Orr (yep, the same place Trahearne used to cleanse Orr of Zhaitan's corruption). They investigated and all seemed to be calm and peaceful, so they brought the first humans to Tyria. It's implied that the original home world of humanity was NOT calm and peaceful, hence their leaving.
So the humans built and flourished on Orr for quite a while, also sending off colonies to Elona, Cantha, and Ascalon. (Elona sent it's own colony to Kryta). Balthazar helped a great deal with conquering Ascalon from the charr, which is why the charr caved and got gods of their own to help them (the Titans). In the middle of all this the gods kept up procreating, I suppose, and Grenth was born of Dwayna and a mortal sculptor (probably the Malchor of Malchor's Leap, he has his own tragic story).
Anyway then the whole shebang with the gift of magic and the revoking of the gift of magic and the war with Abaddon and the Exodus all happened, and then we had the three Guild Wars (which are wars that, uh, we don't have any gameplay for, despite the name lol) and the original game Guild Wars: Prophecies took place right after the conclusion of the Third Guild War, and the Ascalonian humans fled to Kryta and discovered the White Mantle, etc. And then the other GW campaigns and so on, the course of human history, until Guild Wars 2, and yeah.
Maybe the Six will come back now the dragons are gone? Or maybe they'll find a nice peaceful world for humans to inhabit, come and take them all away (maybe ascend a human Commander to godhood to help lead humans in the new world), or maybe the Commander wants to stay, or whatever, and we'll get to see what Tyria looks like without humans!! Maybe Guild Wars 3 (if they ever make it) will have no humans. (And the name of the series will have become even MORE out of date since the entire race that did the Guild Wars is gone lol. Or maybe GW3 would just be set in the new world?? I wouldn't be entirely happy with that tbh but whatever. ALTERNATIVELY, GW3 might be a prequel, set DURING the Guild Wars, so we could finally play them, and since there were three Guild Wars, calling it GW3 would actually make a lot of sense.)
So no the humans are not native to Tyria! They didn't start here and they might not stay. I hope WE stay though.
Since humans aren't native to Tyria... that means norn are the REAL humans who just evolved slightly differently or whatever to be bigger and make more body heat. And THATS WHY THWYRE IDENTICAL.
Humans are the best and most efficient form of sentient life, that's why they're in EVERY universe. Tyria just made them different VERY SLIGHTLY.
And that's why norn are "just big humans" because they ARE! And nobody would have a problem with it if there weren't any actual humans... WHICH THERE AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE!
