i'm very confused about the animosity toward the term 'martyr' because even though i understand that in english the word doesn't carry the same implications as in arabic (the "witness" part) but i'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the english word either? what are people mad about exactly?

#i think i'm struggling with understanding it because i grew up learning the arabic word first and understanding it as 'victim of hate crime'#and then learning the english word and thinking 'that's just the english translation of the word'#but now discovering that it's not a 1:1 translation and that it's taught as a different meaning in english speaking countries #but still that meaning even if different. there's nothing wrong with it??#doesn't it mean 'someone who died for their beliefs'? what's wrong with that #it's. it's just racism isn't it
