I'm a main character. It is not by choice. The list of weird and unique and sensational is overwhelming and exhausting. I went to meet some new people and I forgot how people look the first time they hear my day-to-day. But today's pain in my ass is not present. It is past but I've been doing this long enough that I see where I'm going and I'm screaming NO! GOD! PLEASE NO! like Michael Scott.
I did 23andMe before I conceived a child because I wanted to check me and my wife for any DNA hints. It was a good idea. We both carry markers for increased IQs if breastfed, for instance, so the formula debate was a non starter.
And that's how these stories start. Something totally logical but not common because I see the world just 15 degrees off normal which starts me down all these paths.
My DNA is super cool and I start checking out my ancestry. My largest concentration is not on Cuba as I thought, but some islands off NW Africa with a few port cities around Africa, Spain, and New Foundland. At this point, I try to leave it alone. I don't want an adventure. Ten years go by, my son is 10, he's making his own life, and doesn't need me as much. I return to the DNA mystery.
I have a huge DNA spike on something called the Savage Islands. Never heard of it and I'm a geography buff. There's like no information. The only book on it is a self-published book but it's been verified by others and it's the main source of information for the Wikipedia page. And I'm just... No. Please no. It was only used for pirates and it is now a heavily guarded wildlife sanctuary that Spain and Portugal fight over depsite not one penny of profit in any but there have been several unsuccessful expeditions to find the buried treasure that is confirmed by primary sources. No. No.
I put the book away and swear it off.
My dad is wasting away and he separated from us so I looked up where my grandparents' graves are to let them know they should contact me and I look at their names for the first time in decades and I realize my grandmother's first name is not Cuban. And their last name isn't even Spanish. I get curious about their names so I do a little research because I can't hear a plot train until it is an inch from my face apparently.
My grandfather had a Spanish last name as his middle name. I remember that having two last names is a thing in Latin. Eventually I find out that he made his last name his middle when he defected to America in 1969 at the height of the Cold War (he was Fidel Castro's cardiologist so the US swiped him, his wife, and their son). Like I said, it's just main character stuff all the way down. He took his wife's last name as his last name when he came to America.
So he had a Cuban name and she didn't. So I go looking for her history. Now when I knew her she had severe dementia, white hair, age spots, light papery skin, and spoke zero English. And it was an accepted fact that she was Cuban.
She was born in Galway, Ireland. Her family is 100% Irish going back as far as recorded history. Weird.
She was born in 1914. Know what was happening to babies in Ireland in 1914? They were being sold. So that's how she got to Cuba. My grandfather was a wealthy socialite. So his or another family bought her probably. My grandfather married a white woman and took her white name before defecting to America with money and social status.
So set that aside because that's what we call a subplot.
So my DNA is on a pirate island without explanation. I start looking up pirates. I'm looking for other explanations. I'm telling people my ancestors were sailors at this point because it's so fucking goofy to be a descendant of pirate-pirates but it gets so much worse.
Using the DNA in parts of the world and the time since I last had a native of that place in my DNA I'm able to construct a timeline of my different ancestors. My relatives get on 23 and me and I'm able to account for the non-pirates from their DNA.
The pirates are definitely ancestors of my father, himself a career criminal. (And that is a story that would go on forever but if you hated the Satanic Panic in the 80s you can blame him)
Now I've got Irish DNA and I've got an Irish grandma so I'm just chugging along with genealogy and it suddenly dawns on me that my Irish DNA is from my mother's mother only. My grandma is not my grandma. My dad's mom wasn't his mom and I don't think he knew. And my mom would tell me my dad was so spoiled because he had a 24/7 nanny that treated him like a son. And I want to stop. I don't need more backstory. But I have everything laid out in front of me and I'm able to figure out some of the ships my pirate ancestors were on.
And I feel I have to say pirate ancestors because my last native Inuit DNA was all alone in New Foundland with nothing around it at all. My only DNA on the Western hemisphere is recent Cubans and one Inuit born around 1710 in New Foundland. I was really excited that maybe I was related to an explorer but the years don't match perfectly. You know what does match perfectly? A pirate taking over that town 1720-1721. The only ship was the Fortune. The only captain was Bartholomew Roberts.
As in Black Bart. As in the Dread Pirate Roberts.
You know where he went after there? To fucking Cape Verde which confirms with DNA. Then to Madagascar and Mozambique which... confirms with DNA.
So I have a list of pirates that worked with Roberts and I see the plot forming. I see the damned adventure coming at me but it's too late. I will absolutely persue this one day. Not today or tomorrow but someday.
Because the pirates my ancestor worked with are the same pirates who died with unfound buried treasure and my DNA is on a very weird island that the ancient Greeks believed were home of Gorgons and that Portugal and Spain are super possessive of despite no income from it and it is patrolled by armed guards 24/7 and that island was only used for burying treasure.
So let me tell you what is going to happen because I've been down these railroad tracks before. I'm going to vacation in Cape Verde or the Canary Islands to see where my ancestors lived and because they are popular vacation spots and my family loves to travel internationally and we're low on remaining destinations. That is where the normal will stop.
What comes after, I don't know. I can guess. A shady tour guide offering to take me by the islands to see the endangered wildlife, we run around, a literal treasure map, a realistic non-mythical explanation for Gorgons, buried treasure, dodging mercenary guards with no oversight, finding something amazing, but only managing to come back with a pocket's worth.
And a story that no one will believe. This is not what I'm choosing to happen. This is what I am compelled to do and what the unlikeliest of probabilities will conspire to make happen.
I don't even like the movie Goonies.

Book Lovers ~ Pope Heyward
Blurb: You have a crush on Pope and Pope has a crush on you. Your love for books brings you together.
Word Count: 3,376
Warnings: swearing, poorly written towards the end cause I'm bad at ending writings, probably spelling/grammar errors, I think thats it.
I started writing this as a whole bond over books thing and then it kind of got away from that a bit but not really I don't think.
Also, the way i was going back and forth between writing this and something Calum Hood related cause its his birthday and I love him was insane.
~~~~~~
You sat on the beach on a towel, a book in hand as the sounds of screams and waves filled the air.
Not too far away sat Pope, staring at you as JJ, John B and Kie surfed. He watched as you brushed some hair behind your ear before turning the page, completely engrossed by whatever it was you were reading.
"Are you serious?" Pope jumped as his head swiveled to look at the voice that spoke.
Kie stood there, surfboard under her arm with an eyebrow raised, the two other boys behind her.
"What?" Pope shrugged, acting as casual as he could.
"Really? Playing dumb Pope? Thats JJ's job." She answered, setting down her board and sitting next to him.
"I take some offense to that, Kie." JJ told her which only caused the curly-haired girl to roll her eyes.
"Just go talk to her, Pope."
Pope widened his eyes. "Are you crazy, Kie?"
"If talking to someone you like is crazy then have me committed but last time I checked it was normal."
"What would I even talk to her about?"
"Oh, I don't know. She's only reading a book. Gosh if only you read." Kie told him, sarcasm dripping from her voice.
Pope sighed before getting up.
"Go get 'em, tiger." John B grinned as him and JJ took a seat next to Kie, watching as Pope made his way over.
He was about halfway to you before he turned around and walked back, shaking his head. "I can't do it. It's rude to interrupt someone's reading ya know. That and Toppers walking towards her."
JJ scoffed. "Really, man. Toppers got nothing on you. Besides, I'm pretty sure they're just friends."
"Oh quite the opposite, JJ. He's got money and a way nicer boat."
John B shot Pope a look. "How dare you insult the HMS Pogue like that."
"You know what I mean. He can buy her literally anything she asks for."
"Okay. So he's got money and a nice boat. That means he's trying to compensate for something. Any guesses as to what that is?" Kie stared at Pope.
JJ grinned, deciding to answer for his best friend. "His di-"
"Personality, JJ" Kie cut off the blonde. "What he lacks in personality, he makes up for with money. Topper is boring as hell. He doesn't know the meaning of excitement and adventure. You do. I'm sure you have way more in common with her than Topper does."
Pope took one last look at you, book open but ignored as Topper chatted with you. You just smiled and nodded before standing up and gathering your things, waving a small goodbye to Topper as you did.
You glanced over and saw the Pogues watching you so you brought up your hand and sent them a small wave, blushing when Pope smiled and waved back at you.
The next time Pope saw you was at the library. He was getting a couple of books for a paper he had to write and you were there, scanning the shelves, trying to figure out what book you wanted to read next.
Pope had looked over and froze when he saw you just a few feet away from him, fingers ghosting over the spines of books as you read the titles.
You had agreed to ride with Kelce to the library considering he needed a specific book to read and you needed a new book to read. You chewed on your lip, focusing on each one before pulling one out that caught your eye, reading the blurb before ultimately deciding that you didn’t want to read that one now.
Pope took a deep breath before scanning the titles himself, attempting to find one that he had already read that he thought you would enjoy. He finally found one and grabbed it, walking over to you.
"Having troubles?" He asked.
You jumped slightly before looking at him. "Little bit. It's hard to find which one to read next, ya know."
Pope nodded before handing you the book. "You might like this one. I read it and could hardly put it down. It's definitely on my list of books to own."
You took it with a smile. "Thanks."
"It's no biggie." Pope shrugged.
You smiled again before walking backwards towards the checkout counter. "I'll see you around, Pope."
Pope grinned at the fact that you knew his name. "I hope so, Y/N."
You blushed slightly before turning around, meeting up with Kelce who immediately noticed your reddened cheeks.
"What's going on over here, Y/N/N?" He asked, pointing to his own cheeks.
"Nothing." You mumbled, placing your book and library card on the counter.
Kelce looked around, trying to spot who was making his best friend blush before shrugging.
Later that night, you and Kelce were sitting on his living room floor with Rafe and Topper, a board game set out in front of the boys as you read your book and listened to their conversation.
"Topper, St.Louis is not the capital of Illinois." Rafe said for what felt like the hundredth time.
"What are you talking about? Yes it is!"
Kelce took a deep breath before looking at Topper. "Top, sweetie, if you think St.Louis is the capital of Illinois, then what's the capital of Missouri?"
"Boise?"
You peered over your book with a blank look on your face, Kelce and Rafe having the same look on theirs.
"Come on guys, you know I'm bad at geography." Topper whined.
"I think," Rafe started, looking at Kelce, "We need to bust out that Sequence state capital game from second grade."
"I think I lost a brain cell during this conversation," Kelce rubbed his temples.
"Good thing you're not playing fucking jeopardy or you'd really be screwed, Top." You said.
Topper turned his attention to you. "Not all of us are book smart, Y/L/N." Topper leaned over to look at the page before squinting. "Whatcha reading that's better than playing a game with us, anyway?"
You held up the book enough so they could read the title and Rafe raised an eyebrow. "Where'd ya find that one?"
"Someone recommended it to me." You blushed a little at the interaction with Pope earlier that day.
"Oh ho ho. That is the same blush you had at the library. You like this person." Kelce pointed.
"Shut up, Kelc."
"Wait. She was blushing? Oh snap."
"Spill the name, Y/N."
You rolled your eyes at your friends before replying. "I don't have to tell you three anything."
"Come on. If you're not gonna tell us then how will we tease you?" Rafe whined.
"That's exactly why I'm not gonna tell you. You'll just tease me and then whenever he's around, you'll act all juvenile."
Topper looked at the two boys before turning towards you. "If we promise that we will keep the teasing to a minimum when he's not around and that we act mature about this, will you tell us?"
You bit your lip before hesitantly nodding. Rafe, Topper and Kelce's eyes widened, eager to hear the name about to come out of your mouth.
You sighed, bookmarking your page. "His name is Marcel. He wears glasses and wears a sweater vest. A bit on the awkward side but very sweet."
Kelce and Topper shot each other confused glances, never having heard that name before. Rafe, on the other hand, cocked his head to the side with an unamused look and a 'really'.
"You know this Marcel, Cameron?" Topper asked.
"Yeah. If you watch the Best Song Ever music video, you'll meet him. I do have two sisters, remember." He answered.
You shrugged. "Worth a shot."
"Come on, Y/L/N. Just give us the name."
You held up your hands in surrender. "Okay, okay." Your three friends leaned forward, staying quiet with raised eyebrows. "Pope Heyward."
"Oh my God," Topper breathed.
"Can we not do the usual 'traitor' bullshit please? I feel like my mom is already going to have a fit."
"What makes you think we'd do that?"
You shot each of them a look before standing up. "I gotta get going. You guys have fun and Topper," you looked at the blonde, "learn your damn capitals."
And then you were out the door.
****
Pope walked into The Wreck a few days later and spotted you in the corner, book in hand while you ate your food. Pope was so focused on you that he didn't even notice Kie appear next to him with a water pitcher in her hand.
"You gonna stand there all day or you gonna sit down with her and start up a conversation."
Pope whipped his head to look at his friend before shrugging. "I guess I could but sh-"
"She's reading and its rude to interrupt someone whos reading. I know." Kie rolled her eyes before walking over to your table.
He saw you smile at Kie and greet her before nodding. You looked past Kie and saw Pope. You grinned and waved him over which Pope happily did, taking a seat across from you.
"Want anything Pope?" Kie asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just get me the usual."
Kie smiled before walking away towards the back.
"I finished that book you recommended to me last night and I was speechless. The ending was...wow." You leaned back in your chair, taking a drink of water.
"I know right. That book made me want to read all his other works and they're all just so amazing." Pope grinned.
"His writing is so poetic that I was surprised I wasn't reading an actual poem."
"Exactly. He's such a good writer."
You two talked for hours about different authors and books you guys liked, eventually both of you started writing down names of books and authors for the other to check out.
"How long have they been like that?" John B asked, JJ sitting beside him along with the kook boys who joined them unexpectedly with no hassle whatsoever.
"Lets see. You five have been here for 45 minutes to an hour, Pope showed up a couple of hours before you. So...almost four." Kie smiled before scurrying off to wait on another table.
"Four what? Hours?" JJ asked.
"Yes, dumbass." Rafe rolled his eyes before turning his attention back to the table where you sat with Pope.
"They both look so happy." Topper commented.
"Because they are. They're in love." Kelce sighed with a dopey smile on his face, resting his head against his hand.
"Aren't they a little young for love?" John B raised an eyebrow.
Kelce shot him a look which caused John B to raise his hand in surrender.
"What do you think they're talking about?"
"They're both nerds. Take a guess."
JJ opened his mouth to object, offended on behalf of his best friend but John B stopped him. "No, no. He has a point."
You glanced at your watch before standing up, saying something to Pope who nodded, handing each other your phones.
JJ smirked. "My boy is getting some." Rafe, Kelce, and Topper all turned to look at JJ, unamused with his words. "Or not."
*****
Pope shook his head. "No way. That is one of the dumbest and most cliche tropes ever."
It was a week later and you and Pope sat at The Wreck again, having a conversation about whatever you recently read and now, apparently, your favorite and least favorite tropes.
"I have to disagree. Enemies to lovers has my heart." You responded, taking a bite out of your burger after you spoke.
"One bed and they have to share reigns supreme." Pope popped a fry into his mouth like that was the end of discussion.
You held up your finger as you finished chewing before swallowing. "You have to have some love for the enemies to lovers trope then because a lot of enemies to lovers involve sharing a bed." You pointed out.
"What about friends to lovers? Hmm? Hmmm? That right there is practically gold and bed sharing comes into play."
You rolled your eyes. "At some point, a friend likes another. I can tell you in confidence that I had a crush on Topper, Kelce, and Rafe at some point in our friendship. It was bound to happen because we hang out so much. Enemies to lovers though? Who willingly hangs out with their enemy? No one."
Pope laughed. "Alright. Sure. Whatever."
"Don't whatever me Pope. I'm right and you know I am." You laughed.
Pope held his hands up in surrender. "Sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Kiara walked over to your table and you smiled. "Lets ask Kie."
"Ask me what?" Her eyes darted between you and Pope.
Pope turned to Kie. "I want you to be honest with me, Kie. Which trope is better? Best friends to lovers or enemies to lovers."
Kie blinked slowly as she spoke. "I was just coming here to ask if you need refills or anything else."
"This is more important. Best friends to lovers or enemies to lovers?"
You both looked at the girl expectedly and she shrugged. "I'm more of a fake dating girl myself so neither."
"Or both." You raised your eyebrows.
"True. Enemies could fake date or friends could. Sounds like a both thing for me."
Kie just turned and walked away, shaking her head with a small smile.
Your phone dinged and you looked down, seeing a text from your mom. "Thats my mother paging me." You sighed as you stood up. "This has been a fun date, Pope."
"Date?"
You felt your face heat up from embarrassment."Oh, was this...not- I shouldn't have assumed. I'm sorry."
"No, it was. I just didn't think you'd think of it as one." Pope quickly said.
You smiled before kissing his cheek. "I'll talk to you later then.'
Pope blushed as he watched you walk away, paying for your half of the meal before exiting the building.
****
It's been a month since you and Pope became official. A lot of your dates were either study dates, beach dates, or dates that consisted of you two eating at The Wreck while discussing anything under the sun.
Pope was kind of scared when you asked him what he wanted to do for a living, considering everyone else thought it was weird but you were supportive.
"That's cool."
Popes eyes widened in shock at your words. "Really? No 'why would you choose a coroner' or 'why the hell would you wanna work with dead bodies'?"
You shrugged as you stole one of the fries from his plate. "I think it's cool. It's a job not many people want but it's an important one."
That was probably when Pope knew that he was in deep with you. The fact that you didn't judge the things he was passionate about and what he wanted to do. That just made him fall for you more and let him know that you were the perfect girl for him.
Now here you were, spending the weekend together in the best way.
You sat in Pope's living room, okay laid in Pope's living room, watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Pope had the house all to himself for the weekend and invited you over for a Harry Potter movie marathon since you two just finished rereading the entire series.
So here you were, curled into your boyfriend's side with his arm draped over your shoulders, holding you closer if that was even possible.
You sighed as Alan Rickman appeared on the screen. "I miss him."
Pope kissed the top of your head as he rubbed your arm. "I know, sweetheart. You say that everytime he pops up on screen."
"I can't help it. He was just such a good soul."
Pope smiled, twirling some of your hair around his finger. He loved listening to you talk about things and people you were passionate about. The smile on your face whenever someone, usually him, brought up one of those topics was worth it and he could listen to your voice for hours on end, which usually happened when a topic of interest was brought up.
"Are you even listening to me?" You'd ask, tapping his wrist.
"Every word."
You'd lean back and cross your arms, a smirk on your face as you raised one of your eyebrows. "Oh really?"
He'd nod before speaking. "You were saying how you think iced coffee is better than regular hot coffee."
You'd make an impressed face. "Are you going to say anything at any point in this conversation."
He'd pretend to think about it before shaking his head. "I'm good."
You'd roll your eyes before purposely bringing up a topic that would cause him to talk some because just like him, you were obsessed with seeing his smile when he was interested in a topic and hearing his voice.
"Pope, did you hear me?"
Pope blinked before shaking his head. "No. Sorry. I was spacing this time."
"I asked if you wanted to make stir fry tonight?" You laughed lightly at the space cadet you called a boyfriend.
Pope smiled and nodded. "Sounds great. I'll ask dad if we can raid the store for whatever we don't have."
You both pulled out your phones, you to get the recipe and Pope to ask his dad if it was okay to take whatever was needed for dinner.
You walked into the kitchen and started pulling out whatever you could find that was needed for the stir fry before writing down on a notepad what was left.
"We got the go ahead." Pope told you and you held up the notepad.
"Then let's go on an adventure."
You two paused the movie and made your way down the street towards Heywards hand in hand.
"Have you ever seen the Percy Jackson movies?" You asked, genuinely curious if Pope had or not. Pope shook his head and you let out a laugh. "Oh boy. We might have to take a break from good ol' HP so you can watch them."
"Why?" Pope swung your arms as looked at you.
"You might find them...interesting. That's all." You shrugged.
"Are they good?"
You smiled up at him as you leaned your head on his arm. "You'll have to see."
Normally, you wouldn't recommend watching the movies to anyone but when it came to Pope, you wanted him to see it. You wanted to see him rant about all the differences and how bad this adaptation was. You wanted to see him get all flustered at the smallest details that the movies got wrong and complain about how this doesn't do the books any justice.
"Are you setting me up?" A small smile sat on Pope's lips.
You placed a hand to your heart. "Ouch Pope. That stings."
He just laughed before kissing your temple as you approached Heywards. Pope unlocked the door and you followed him inside, picking up the rest of your ingredients before walking over to the counter and pulling a 20 out of your pocket, sliding it under one of the boxes for Mr.Heyward to find.
"Really? You know my dad loves you right? Like you don't have to pay him for this stuff. He gave us the okay." Pope said.
You shrugged. "It's fine and it's only right. I mean, I'm taking things from his store. The least I can do is pay him." You turned to the security camera and waved before pointing to the box the cash was under and doing the hand signal for money.
"You do know he cant check the system from his phone right?"
"Yeah but if he plays it back, he'll know and no one else will see the footage." You smiled before turning back to your boyfriend. "Ready?" You asked as you placed your things in a bag.
Pope grabbed your hand and the bag as he nodded. "Lets get cooking."
You laughed as you followed him back outside, waiting for him to lock the door before beginning the short journey back to his, the pair of you thinking about how lucky you were to have someone like the other.
ATZ Reaction: You live in a bad part of town/neighborhood {Hyung Line}
∵ Group || Ateez
∵ Genre || Highschool AU
∵ Warnings || Mentions of drugs, swearing, some are shorter than others , typos
This story is not to be offensive to anyone, I didn't grow up in the best neighborhood myself while living in Chicago, this is strictly a story to show that a person who truly loves you wouldn't care where you came from even if it wasn't the best enviroment, also, never let the enviroment you grew up in mold you into a person unless that's what you personally want ~ WR:Le ♡
Hongjoong:
The Grey sky out side hid any signs of light in it as rain poured down heavily causing small but loud thuds to hit all over his vehicle, sketchy figures would pass by ever now and again while others stood infront of the decaying apartment buildings that he parked across from.
This area wasn't one he had been in often, at all actually. However, he made this trip to come and see you well- give you your geography study book for you upcoming quiz that you needed to study. All be it he'd see you and maybe make a small conversation because if it wasn't clear since Junior year, he liked you, a lot.
He'd seen your information including your number written on the book and gave you a call to which you told him to just drop off to you at the address he was sitting at now, waiting. The delicate knock on his window caught him and he looked to see you in your rain resistance hoodie squinting in the droplets. He quickly grabbed your book from his passenger seat rolling down the window and handing it to you with a gentle smile that spoke of his adoration for you.
"I was beginning to think you'd written the wrong address down." He lightly joked speaking loudly over the rain making you smile "Why, because this isn't the neighborhood you pictured me living in?" Hongjoong's eyes were screaming and you could sew his panicking figure,
"I was joking! I know you aren't some uppity entitled person." His body visibly "Good because I'd never be that way towards anyone." You nodded understanding not noticing the rain quieted down and so did your voices.
"I'll see you tomorrow in fifth period?" , He smiled at your question "Of course. Let me know if you need a studying partner."
"Will do."
Seonghwa:
Never in a million years did he think you'd be ashamed to be walked somewhere, you enjoyed his company but he'd never asked to walk you home before even though you quickly said no it was easy to change that answer when you seen the hurt and question on his face. So here you were, quietly walking home hand in hand, Seonghwa was walking on sunshine after you'd changed your answer he didn't notice your longing face before you could Cross the street you abruptly halted pulling at his hand causing him to sling backwards,
"This walk is long I don't want you to endure it." You spoke suspiciously but he hadn't caught it "More time with you." He simply replied before attempting to walk again but once again being stopped by you,
"Then you'll have to walk back alone." ,
"I'll call for a ride once I get in front of your house." The pulse in your neck began to jump as he clearly didn't understand why you kept making excuses, you had to flat out tell him now,
"I don't want you to walk me home," you searched his eyes for any sign of anger but they were just boring into your own, "because it's not safe for.. Y'know, you." This made him scoff in a comedic tone,
"You think because you live somewhere that you personally consider to be dangerous that it's personally not safe for me? Y/n I have friends that live in your neighborhood, I have friends everywhere." You were taken aback "You do?"
"You think all my friend live in golden gated communities with foutains in every yard? No. They come from all walk of life, I'm not scared of a neighborhood, I'm scared of you being too ashamed of where you come from to not let me see it because you shouldn't be, ever."
Looking at the sincerity and determination in his eyes with evident sparkles as well you'd lost for sure, "I'm sorry for trying to deny this walk and sort of categorizing you." Seonghwa deeply sighed, "It's alright, you don't ever have to be ashamed of your upbringing, family, anything with me. I like you regardless." That was such a relief to hear.
Yunho:
He simply followed the directions you'd given him to your house, you stayed on the phone with him as he walked just in case he got into any trouble, "I don't need you to babysit me over the phone." He tried to sound convincing, "Yeah you do. I'm not hanging up and you better not either."
You sternly said. Yunho knew all about this sketchy side of town, the high crime rates, drug hideouts or half way houses, police sirens were heard at least 3 times a day but he didn't care he was coming to his love either way no matter the stakes it'd only prove his feelings more with the lengths he was willing to go,
"I can follow directions well." He heard you chuckle "Good now follow my directions and don't hang up this phone." Yunho loved your take charge attitude especially when it was for his good, "You definitely run this relationship, huh?" ,
"Only when you're too tired or unconscious to." He could feel your grinning smile though he couldn't see it , "I promise I'll make it there safely baby I'm almost there, I think," Yunho spoke teasing you knowing you'd start to stress a bit "Yunho do I-" ,
"That was a joke I'm not lost." He could hear you grumble annoyed, "I'm on this street name-" Yunho's sentence was caught off with an oomf you listened closely to hear if he was okay. Yunho stood up dusting himself off after he hit a hard yet soft object, human object.
He was busy searching for his phone to look at the angry trio of men looking his way ready to skin him alive.
"You have no knowledge about watching where the fuck you're going kid or are you just empty headed all together?" A gruff voice spoke startling Yunho, he finally looked up seeing the three males with menace like features, they all looked as if they could break his entire skull with a single punch without much muscle.
"I apologize, really. I'll be out of your way." He tried to smooth over the situation a rough laugh was heard "You'll be out of everyone's way if I get my hands on you." Another man spoke though Yunho's shakey eyes never left the man in front of him he could see the remaining two men swiftly move there hands to their inside jacket pockets, he'd seen movies like this either they'd pull out a deadly weapon or a lollipop.
"Uhm, it'll never happen again sir- sirs." He corrected stumbling over his own words. "If it does nothing will happen to him anyway." An all too familiar voice added, never had Yunho whirled around so quickly "Y/N?!" A Tone of fear, relief, and excitement was heard his his voice,
"You know this clown?" Yunho's eyes were screaming for you both to make a break for it, "Yes Uncle Roy, this is my boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?!"
"Uncle?!"
They both chimed in union but you ignored both grabbing Yunho's hand and pulling him away from your uncle and his goons.
"I don't need protecting," You mocked him "You walked past the block you were supposed to turn on Mr. 'I can follow directions well'" you scolded playfully
"My phone." Was all Yunho could say.
Yeosang:
He loved being on this side of town, the graffiti run down buildings, people on every corner looks ranging from lovely people to those parents would warn to stay away from but Yeosang didn't care.
He was a long way from home but that didn't matter, the pot holes that filled the streets in this part of town the corner stores that lit up almost every street was different from the clean cut grass and untarnished pavements that usually surrounded him, it was all so suffocating and too clean cut for him.
He wanted to explore every enviroment and have friends in all it may be a strange task but he wasn't one for the normal anyway, the unknown excited him even if it was dangerous.
He walked the side walk with weeds growing out of some of the cracks happily looking at the busy streets and in the store windows in business or out, cracked or squeaky clean. "Yeosang?" A voice carried through the air, "Yeosang over here!" His eyes scanned and scanned until he saw you attempting to Cross the busy street,
you looked to him like a pretty yet unprotected rare artifact that he wanted to keep for himself, Heaven knew he carried this deep care and emotion for you that most would describe as a crush.
He waited til you safely crossed in front of him to speak "Didn't think I'd see you over this way." , "I live over here you however are a long way away from home aren't you?" Yeosang Shrugged "I like the scenery."
You looked past him then back to him "What scenery? There aren't any museums or statues around , this part of town isn't the best." You admitted,
"Which is what makes it great, it's not some land of perfection where you can't breath longer than 7 seconds," you raised your brow at him asking him to explain further making him sigh,
"Okay I know it sounds ungrateful, I truly blessed to have grew up in the enviroment that I did but it's also blocking me from the rest of the world, leaving me unprepared and curious, I have opportunities in my neighborhood but still so many restrictions."
You hummed "And what opportunities do you think you'll have out here?" He thought for a moment "You guys have the best hip hop dance classes here, they only teach contemporary and well, everything but hip hop based anything or remotely related to the genre where I live."
You laughed at his almost tantrum like attitude, "So you're looking for a place to take dance classes at out here?" You asked with him sending a nod in response. "You could help me look for one if you're not busy?" He questioned "I could . I was only going to buy some junk food but that can wait, I know this town front and back, "
You could see the cheerful hope in his eyes that begged you to help him find a dance studio where he could be free so you couldn't deny his request, well, you didn't want to. "let's go find you a dance stuido." You finished seeing Yeosang cheer silently
"I'll buy you food after?" He offered "You definitely got me now." You grinned linking your arm with his as you both began to walk together to find him a nice spot to showcase his love for hip hop and dance while exploring the city and maybe the depths of your friendship as well.
Chapter One
"How was your day at school sweetie?" Inko Midorya asked. She stepped out of the kitchen and walked over to her son. "I'm almost done with dinner."
"That's good, I'm starving. I had to skip lunch to help Uraraka find her necklace." Deku said, his stomach agreeing to the promise of food. Inko sighed and patted his head.
"Your not going to grow any muscle if you keep skipping meals, darling." By the way Deku looked, skipping meals were becoming a habit. His studies and training have kept him from eating. She worried that he'll fatigue and wound up hurt.
"I know mama. I've just been so busy, I don't really have time to eat." Deku walked into the living room and set down on the couch. He was exhausted from school and didn't feel like standing up at the moment.
"Well, how about tonight you eat two portions instead of one? Sound good?" Inko asked, walking over to Izuku and giving a kiss on the head. She headed back to the kitchen after receiving a lazy nod.
Time passed slow, it was practically killing the boy. He didn't want to wait for food but knew his mom couldn't cook any faster. His stomach complained every second, sending pain and growling loud. He swear he heard his mom giggling after a particular loud growl.
"Mom, is the food almost done?" Izuku asked.
"Now, now. Don't be so impatient." She said. "It's got a few more minutes left, see?" She pointed to the clock on the microwave, which gave no indication of how much time was left. Izuku sighed and rolled onto his side. He grabbed the remote, turning the T.V. on, and flipping through random channels. He ended up stopping on a news program, which was reporting a break-in at the number one hero's, Endeavor Todoroki, agency.
Deku paid close attention as they went over potential suspects and showed viewable evidence. Midorya was curious as to who would want to break into the agency. It could have been the league of villains, but he had a feeling they weren't responsible.
"Dinners ready. Come get it while your still alive, you starved boy." Inko joked, setting the table.
Midorya reached for the remote, when he saw a black figure in the corner of the screen. It stood behind the reporter, seemingly staring into the camera. It sent a wave of shivers down the boys spine. He grabbed the remote quickly and paused the program.
"Momma, can you come here for a second?" He asked.
Inko walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder. "What is it. New All Might merch?" She questioned. Deku shook his head and pointes to the paused figure. Ms. Midorya inspected the screen. She wasn't sure what she was looking at, seeing as how Izuku's finger blocked half of the object.
"Someones standing where the crime took place. Mom, we gotta tell someone." He shuffled through his pockets and pulled out his phone.
Since Deku moved his hand, Inko could clearly see the figure. She pulled her sleeve over her hand, using it to wipe the screen.
"What are you doing?" Deku asked, seeing his mom wiping the screen.
"Well, I was making sure it wasn't just a spot on the screen. I don't want to waste someone's time." She replied, putting her sleeve on normally and turning to her son. "Take a picture of it real quick." Deku obliged, pointing his phone to the screen and snapping a picture.
"Why do we need a picture?" Inko grabbed the remote and pushed play. The room filled with loud banging and screaming from the t.v. The two stood in horror as they watched people run away from the exact spot the figure stood, only a few moments ago.
"Oh no. What happened?" Inko said, worried about all the children she could see, and hear, from the screen. "Where are the heros?" She asked, watching as a child was thrown across the street. Inko had to turn her head, the scene hit too close to home.
Midorya pulled his mother into a comforting embrace. "I'm sure they'll be safe. I can see a few not allowed to use their quirks. The heros are taking action." Deku assured, gently rubbing his mother's back. She turned to look back at the screen. It showed the underground hero, Aizawa Shota, holding off the attacks. The villains that were able to leak through Aizawa's defence, were immediately faced with the voice hero, Present Mic.
Inko sighed and turned off the t.v. "We should eat dinner while it's still warm." Her enthusiasm from earlier was gone. Midorya nodded and followed his mom to the dinner table. They ate in silence, not having much to say.
Dinner went by and Inko shoed Midorya off to his room. He was to do his homework and get some rest. Of course, like the respectful child he is, Midorya started his homework as soon as he entered his room. It was simple homework, seeing as class was simply taking notes and answering a few questions.
Deku was half way done with his science work, when he received a message from Todoroki.
Todoroki:
Hey, is it alright if I borrow your notes tomorrow? I dropped water on mine.
Sent at 8:54pm
Midorya:
Sure thing. I'll make a copy so you can keep them.
Todoroki:
Thank you and there's no need to make a copy. I'll do that myself.
Midorya:
How you going to stop me through text?
Todoroki:
Midorya.
Midorya:
Fine. I'll just make an extra copy for myself. See, not for you. It just so happens that the extra copy, for myself, are to be given to you.
Todoroki:
Fine. Since I can't stop you, go ahead and do if you want. Just make sure it doesn't bother your schedule.
Midorya:
Okay. See you tomorrow, Todoroki-Kun.
Todoroki:
Alright. See you tomorrow.
____________________________________________
Midorya turned his phone off and grabbed the notes out of his bag. He set it to the side of his desk, so he would remember to do it later. Getting back to work, Deku's mind filled with many thoughts about scientific knowledge.
A knock on his door disrupted him, as his mom walking into his room. "Hey, sweetie. I wanted to tell you that there were no casualties in the attack. A few were injured but they will survive." Inko said, walking over to him and patting his head. Midorya gave her a relieved smile.
"That's good. I'm glad they're all safe." Deku said, turning back to his work. "I wish I was there to help." A thought crossed his mind but he shook it away, knowing there was nothing he could do. He didn't want to deluded his head with impossible fantasies. Just because he had All Might's quirk, didn't mean he could suddenly preform heroics much larger then the man himself.
"Impossible hope."
He knew it was useless to get there and save everyone, but he used it as inspiration. It sounds odd but Izuku liked to use situations he had no control over, and strive to grow into a hero that could at least save one person. He wanted to save everyone and to achieve his goal, he needed to start by saving one.
"Izuku?" Inko asked, gently shaking his shoulders. "Izuku, sweetie, your zoning out again."
He snapped out of his head and gave her a smile. "I'm sorry. I got distracted with my thoughts." He apologized. Inko stopped shaking him and patted his head. She told him it was okay and warned him about zoning out in difficult situations. She left soon after.
Izuku sighed and looked at the pile of work still on his desk. Giving a quick glance to his All Might themed clock, Izuku began finishing his homework, writing a copy of notes for Todoroki, and rewriting them in a neater style. He didn't want to hand Todoroki notes he couldn't read.
All finished for the night, Deku stood up and stretched. He walked over to his door, heading out into the hallway and looking for his mother. He found her sitting in the living room, folding clothes and watching the news. Izuku smiled and set next to her, grabbing a shirt and helping his mother fold the laundry.
"Izuku, you should be heading to bed soon. It's been a long day." She told him. Deku nodded and held his mother in a hug, laying his head against her. "I'm so lucky to have a child who tolerates hugs." She whispered loud enough for Midorya to hear.
"I know, I'm just so amazing." Deku couldn't help but laugh at his own joke.
"You silly goose." Inko chuckled, pulling out of the hug. "Off you now." she said, ushering Deku back to his room. The boy simply obliged, he didn't need anyone to tell him to sleep, just standing was a workout at this point.
"Night Night, Momma." He called out over his shoulder as he walked away. He could hear Inko's response when he turned into his room. Deku shut the door behind him and immediately flopped down on his bed, already getting lost in dreams.
