so i still need to write up a longer thing on leera's relationship with the underworld / the keeper and their pact, but that kind of magic heavily relies on an assumed balance in the world and the disruption of that can have hellish ramifications. leera is able to exist in the world in a way that completely side-steps death and, in part, time, because this toll is offset by the keeper. after she eventually betrays him, she is forced to take a more mindful role in her existence that other forms of magic have never demanded of her.
she is a powerful wizard in her own right, but this introduces a new sense of instability that she's never had to contend with and it has a significant impact on the way she navigates the world. in later verses, leera is a lot clunkier and moves with more forethought and caution. she is utterly terrified of this new sense of fragility.
because of this, leera is incredibly indignant at the council of the midlands' continued distrust and caution toward her after the seam is sealed. she sees it as a lack of gratitude for the incredibly sacrifice she'd made ( while acknowledging both that she had her own selfish motives for said sacrifice and that it is probably a good idea never to fully trust her ). particularly kahlan and zedd.
