maybe I'm getting my timeline mixed up a little here but I think the reason you can watch voltron now and it not read as 'queer-bait-y' as it did back when it was coming out it, is at least partly because the queer representation in cartoons has gotten so much better since then (not crediting voltron for this btw at all lol) like I remember Voltron ending and getting into she-ra, kipo, the owl house, etc. and they all have great queer rep but we didn't really have that before voltron. we had like maybe steven universe and korrasami and though korrasami is so beautiful and i think really made waves for rep, their main queer moment was just them looking at each other and holding hands but that was enough because it was like all we had!! and so you go into voltron with that kind of scale and see the klance 'bonding moment' where they look at each other and hold hands and it's lit all pink-purple and described in-show as 'cradling' like I don't really blame us for thinking that was something
