Familial Ties: Nadia Grell, and the Valran Legacy
Tumblr media
After the passing of her father, Nadia’s Padawan training officially began. She had already fought with and alongside Fen, her now-Jedi-Master, and determined their fighting styles already complimented one another’s. Fen agreed. He helped her in smoothing out the rough edges of her fighting style and taught her some more traditional Jedi techniques.
Their bond grew over the span of several years, Fen stepping up to become a parental figure to her. When the war with the Eternal Empire began, Fen broke ties with the Republic and decided to lay low for an unseen amount of time. Nadia, having been granted the title of Jedi Knight just before conflict with Emperor Arcann arose, took toward her own path. She and Fen kept in contact and still met in-person from time to time.

When the Alliance was created to stop Emperor Arcann, Fen was killed by his vengeful brother--one of the leading commanders of the Alliance. Nadia felt the very moment Fen was struck down.
She was devastated. She and Zenith both shared the sentiment. While the two weren’t as close as she was with Fen, she still indirectly viewed him as another parental figure, as Zenith and Fen were romantically involved and inseparable. Zenith wanted immediate revenge. Nadia argued they’d make enemies of the Alliance if they enacted on that urge.
For the remainder of the time in which Valkorion’s children held control of the Eternal Throne, Nadia and Zenith fought the Eternal Empire on their own, independent terms. Though once the Alliance seized control of the Throne, Nadia drifted back into the Republic. Zenith couldn’t bring himself to do the same.
Nadia kept Fen’s lightsaber and his holocron that recorded many of his teachings, along with some personal messages. Vengeance still lurked in her heart and would try to sway her from time to time, but she wasn’t daring enough, nor foolish enough, to try to kill her old master’s brother. She returned to the Jedi Order to try to make peace with her inner turmoil.
Fen had not fully left the world of the living. During a vision, he revealed to Nadia the true intentions of why he was killed. He asked Nadia to not seek revenge on his brother, as the Force determined he still had a significant role to fill.

Several years passed and Nadia remained in the Order. It was through a brief vision that she foresaw an otherwise unexpected guest. That guest who’d interrupted her meditation was a teenage Twi’lek girl wearing dark clothing. Her blue skin, facial features, and the patterns upon her face nearly gave Nadia whiplash; it was as though she was looking at a much younger--and female--version of Fen. The girl introduced herself as A’lea Shan-Valran, daughter of the High Inquisitor--Fen’s brother.
Nadia had no time to recover from the name. A’lea then explained that she’d felt a strange pull to something within her chambers.
Concerned, Nadia tentatively allowed her to find that which she was drawn to. When it was revealed that A’lea was being called by Fen’s old lightsaber, or the crystal that lied inside, specifically, Nadia found herself hit with a sudden flood of emotions. She broke down in front of A’lea, explaining what the late Barsen’thor meant to her and the people of the Republic. Nadia allowed her to take the lightsaber.
The meeting with A’lea resurfaced old feelings of anger toward the girl’s father. Nadia wouldn’t allow herself to speak to the man. So she agreed that she wouldn’t, and would instead grow to become good friends of her honorary cousin A’lea.
