i tried to keep a counter in my head for longest streak of non bl comics but i kept forgetting about it bc they're just Constant

honestly blasting thru so many of them at once made me feel like. like the guy at the publishing company who has to choose which comic gets picked up out of like 5000 entries like. giving each one a rating based on its first few episodes or whatever when u can feel that so many of these creators put so much into what they're making, when u know that webcomics are so often slow burn in terms of quality bc ur watching the artist find their footing as they go and it's def not fair to judge them before theyve even rly gotten started

there were so many comics where i could Feel that they probably hit their stride later on but i straight up didn't have time to get to that point and it was like Welp Oh Well I Guess *axed*

obviously this is different, like in these kinds of awards they expect ppl to just vote for their faves they already know & love bc who in their right mind is gonna try & read every single one of these before the voting period ends. that would be fucked up and insane

anyway here's what i ended up voting for:

star of 2022: agents and kings (had SUCH a strong 1st chapter... it was between this and paperteeth, which seems absolutely unhinged and delightful)

power within: magical mom (was not expecting this to hook me as hard as it did but it's SO well executed and im a sucker for "takes place years after the actual "story" would've happened" premises; other one i woulda picked is fake out bc got dam what tf is happening there lol)

slice of life: green & gold (this category had THE MOST comics i'd already read and it was suuuuuuuper hard to choose like i was 5 seconds away from slamming "kiss it goodbye" or "spicy mints" but ugh,,,, just from the first chapter i can TELL green & gold is gonna flatten my ass I JUST KNOW IT)

fantasy: strange and wild (UGH another tough category... several comics got me interested like "post harbor" and "the moth prince" and "high school boys trapped in a fantasy world" but like. strange and wild popped the FUCK off i couldn't NOT pick it)

romance: uhhhhhh ah shit i like already forgot, i went back and forth on this one a lot. i think i ended up going with "out of sight, out of body" bc im subscribed to this one and i like it a lot but i also thought abt picking "encore!", "heartstopper" and "the gentle way"... 2 many good

living & learning: tamberlane (GOD this one left a super strong impression im OBSESSED....... also could have gone for "acro heart" or "soul food" which both also seem super interesting)

hidden gems: secretly, still & silently (ANOTHER TOUGH CATEGORY this one had a lot of bangers like "changeup!", "diner for adas", and "gradually" but ugh ss&s has suuuuch a good down to earth vibe and im obsessed w the traditional art style)

drama: novae (BUT IT WAS SO FUCKIN CLOSE WITH BLACK & BLUE....... like oh my god im still losing it. they both have EXCELLENT art (b&b's BACKGROUNDS?????????????) but i went w novae bc i rly like the two leads' chemistry AND im always a sucker for nonverbal characters ;w;) (honorable mention to "lets cast off" bc ive been rly itching to read it & the first chapter did not disappoint)

epic adventure: extinction (I MEAN...... DRAGONS...... FIGHTING.... IT'S SO SICK........ but i also super fucking wanted to pick "astralsounds" bc GOD what an intro. also "clawshot!" good)

comedy: obnoxious hero-kun (i will be honest. this was one of the first categories i went thru and i barely remember this comic but i wrote in my notes "i already know im gonna read this entire thing and all of the author's other works" so i decided to trust myself and go with that. other ones i wanted to pick were "emmy the robot" and "your wings and mine")

chilling stories: 4 panel horror comics (it has a good style and the horror is like. fun. it made me laugh (i wasn't exactly gunning for any of these comics in particular like in the other categories but i do know there are several i'd like to read more of later, like "howling woods", "project loki", and "a life through selfies"))

in conclusion.
