also while thinking about Beyond and characterization... I wonder if (based on Beyond)

there is a difference in how McCoy behaves towards Spock in relation to if others (Jim) are around or not

because Beyond spent so much time with Spock and McCoy only, we saw them getting along, we saw Spock opening up to McCoy and sharing personal things with him and being openly emotional with him: "ofc I care, Leonard"; we saw them bicker, but that was nothing serious, and AOS!McCoy just needs to complain aloud

But when Kirk was around, McCoy was more "gotta needle Spock"

and I think the difference in McCoy's attitude would be fun to explore

(but I might also be completely wrong, and it isn't like this at all lol)
