important feral update (text copied from the server) (its actually good this time so WHEEE)
Greetings Feralians,
The first big news is that this update is rather different from our previous releases.
Ever since we launched Feral into Early Access last year, we’ve heard from thousands of players who answered our call to step up and help us decide how this game should unfold. We’ve heard amazing story ideas and yes, read your fanfic. We’ve seen the ingenious concepts you’ve created for new Creatures and NPCs to join the world. And most of all, we’ve read and pondered and debated your ideas for what players should actually DO in Feral.
As often happens with Early Access games, bug reports were pouring in alongside your ideas. WildWorks is a small company, and finding the right balance between fixing bugs, delivering new features, optimizing for mobile, and responding to player requests is always a challenge. We pushed hard internally to deliver the mobile version of Feral close to the desktop release, and in retrospect perhaps that divided attention prevented us from implementing your suggestions as quickly as we might have otherwise.
That’s why we’ve decided to step back from Feral feature development for a time, and regroup. Our vision for Feral isn’t exclusively ours any more — the player community owns that vision as much as we do, and we need to adjust Feral’s roadmap to match our capabilities with your expectations.
So we’re taking things back to the beginning in Feral. While we slow things down, we’re going to huddle up with you and ask that you keep the ideas, bug reports, and feature requests coming. We need you at the table with us as we plan the way forward for the world of Feral and the community that has come to call it home. It’s important that we get this right.
FAQ:
Does this mean Feral is shutting down?
No. Feral isn’t going anywhere.
The mobile and desktop versions will continue to operate as they have been. There will still be Seasons, but for now the Challenges and rewards will mostly draw from the content released in Seasons 1-6, giving new players a chance to unlock items they may have missed.
So it’s just a repeat of the first six Seasons?
Not exactly. There are some important differences that you'll notice in this update:
-Most of the original Challenges have been redesigned, and there are some new rewards to unlock, including more free Star Fragments.
-Creatures, body mods, and Sanctuaries have all been moved into the newly designed Astral Shop to allow any player to unlock the content they want without having to wait for it to arrive in a Season Pass.
-The price for the Premium Pass is dropping to 500 Star Fragments.
Will you be fixing bugs during this period?
Yes, but slowly, and not everything that gets fixed will be visible to players. There is some behind-the-scenes infrastructure work that needs to be done to support Feral, and those changes may not be obvious to the community.
What does this mean for Animal Jam and other WildWorks games?
For the past two years, a lot of the Animal Jam development team has been pitching in to help accelerate Feral's development. That team has now resumed their full-time focus on Animal Jam, and AJ players can expect to see a LOT of improvements, bug fixes, new features, security upgrades, and new content in the coming months. And when Feral development resumes, it won’t need to borrow resources from other projects: AJHQ will stay 100% focused on AJ.
To sum up, Feral's development will be slowed as we take a step back to reassess the sort of game it needs to be, alongside our players and community. This will take time—and work!—in order to be realized. In the meantime, the world of Feral will continue to function as it always has, and some new content will continue to arrive in shops and within the Season Pass.
-That all said, there's still an update to be had, so here's what we have in store!
Early Access 1 Content Returns: Play through the Season Pass to unlock content from the first Season of Fer.al, plus new rewards including free Star Fragments!
-Decals Are Back: The Decal and Creature Size features are back and functioning for all players, so unleash your creativity!
-Astral Shop Improvements: The Astral Shop has gotten an overhaul that makes it easier to browse through content, like past Creatures, Sanctuaries, and exclusive new items!
-Environment Updates: Sparks now spawn into City Fera on a new landing platform, and you can take a seat or take a selfie on new benches across Feral's cities.
Brand new Clothing, Furniture, and Dyes!
What about an extension of Season Six?
There were some unforeseen technical difficulties which prevented us from extending the season. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. We also wanted to release this new update which contains improvements to the Astral Shop, new clothing, furniture, and dyes, bringing avatar customizations back for all players, and fixing previous issues reported. We also know there were bugs with some of the challenges that prevented you from progressing in the pass, so we're going to grant 500 Star Fragments for those that purchased Season 6 and weren't able to complete it due to bugs. Please DM me your fer.al username and we will credit your account within a week. Thank you for your patience and stay Fer.al! @Fer.al Newsletter
