I was also thinking during this whole thing of Robin taking care of usopp he learns how to read poneglyphs. This was not intentional and did not teach him how to read it. After the incident with the buster call, she probably wanted to write down some of the stuff she knows about poneglyphs including the alphabet. So she has it with her all times. Also just in case something does happen to her, the information is still out there to be learned . He taught himself while looking through Robin's journals and kind of watched her while she works.

He thought it was a word game trying to decipher the squiggles on the paper. Well she's working he curiously asks like what's It's an ancient weapon? She's freaking out asking him how much he knows and how he learned how to read it. After giving his explanation she firmly tells him not to tell anyone that he knows how to read poneglyphs not sanji not his dad no one this is a secret between him and Robin.

Robin feels terrified and also guilty knowing that if the world finds out that this little boy knows how to read them, everyone will be after him whether to use him or to kill him. She spent years running she doesn't want that for usopp, if yasopp finds out he'll be pissed and would probably kick her out or turn her into the marines. (He would never do that yasopp is a lot of things but he's not a monster.) also someone finds out that he knows then they'll find her and they'll do a buster call on syrup village and she can't go through that again and she won't let usopp go through that.

So they keep it a secret. When he's older he insists on learning more about it and asks Robin lights so important to keep it a secret. She reveals her past her real name and her history doubling down on why he needs to keep his information limited. He doesn't push her further after.

Years later Luffy gets a hold of them. Water 7 happens. It's very traumatic but you know everyone is okay now. Robin pulls usopp aside and decides to teach him everything she knows about them. Realizing that what happened during water 7 was a close call If everything didn't happen how it did she would have been dead and all that information would be gone. She doesn't want that to happen. Someone has to know about this, someone has to keep this knowledge alive and Usopp is the one to do it. If something happens to her, He has to carry on her legacy. So he gets her inherited will of knowledge and keeping history alive.

This is killing me because she's such an older sister/second mom to Usopp and it's just,,, So sweet,, I love Usopp finding out on his own and Robin protecting him at all costs. Robin telling him all she knows after Water 7? I love them. I can't stop thinking about the fear Usopp might've felt when Robin was taken away from them. The way he shows up as Sogeking and she just knows it's him because he used to do that as a kid too. And,, It's just so sweet, the way they love each other,,
