I just wanna take a second to look at this:
Tumblr media
I don't want to get into a fight with OP and reblog this from there. I know I'm not going to change their mind. Years of internet exchanges has taught me that the hard way.
However, I do want to take this as an opportunity to meta analyze Bobby and why he goes after people the way he does.
Bobby would use people's weaknesses, like being poor, because yes, copaganda based on Sherlock Holmes, but also because he would see their backgrounds as no excuse for the crimes they committed.
Bobby didn't grow up well off. He had a father that was absent and possibly at least emotionally abusive when they had interacted. He witnessed a horrible marriage. His mother was sick. He struggles financially. He has issues with relating people as his authentic self. He doesn't like authority. He had a brother that was a severe addict who of course lied constantly.
None of those things led him to do things that were illegal. No murders, no financial crimes, etc. None of those things lead him to intentionally hurting people in a criminal capacity. So he has no sympathy for those that do.
One of the things I see mentioned is autistics have a strong sense of justice. Maybe for him, especially at that time before the internet existed, and of course way before it exists as it does today, and social media, maybe his sense of justice was all about going after people who chose to be violent criminals.
Literally Declan said Bobby could have gone either way. With his background, Bobby could have become some form of criminal.
Bobby chose to do what was right and stop bad guys instead of turning out like one, and he did that the way he knew he could. By understanding them and using what he understood about them to manipulate these people into fucking up.
That's what interrogators do. I'm not talking about cops necessarily here, there are people literally trained to or develop a talent for interrogation. They do what they can to find things out from people in interrogations. Chase Hughes is one of those guys. He will learn everything he can about the person he goes into interrogate before speaking with them. His skill set he developed for interrogation happened during his time in the military, and if I remember right, several other of the top behavioral analyst in the world had that path as well.
Tl;dr: So, yeah, Bobby uses people's backgrounds to manipulate them into confessing. For the most part, these are bad people. And if they aren't bad people exactly, they sure as hell did something criminal that harmed others. And often their backgrounds are no excuse for the crimes they commit, just like Bobby's bad background would have never been an excuse for anything he could have done to harm others in an illegal capacity. And he knows that. So he sees their backgrounds as fair game to manipulate them to the point of getting confessions. It's what irl interrogators do.
DNI: If you just want to come at this with "ItS jUsT cOpAgAnDa!" This is a meta post.
